That night everyone sat around Adam actually happy about hearing the story. Hannah had been getting better with what she had found out every day and actually looked excited about tonight.
"What is with all of you?"
"Dad, I remember what happened after Miranda left. We went to the park and met Mom. Tonight is when we hear it again." Bae said. Adam smiled at Belle. Belle smiled and reached over to ruffle Bae's hair which he groaned about and fixed.
"Alright, let's get to it." Adam said.
Flashback
Adam got up the next morning and went to check on Hannah and Neal. Well, for Neal, all he had to do was look down for he had cuddled into his father's side during the night. Adam slowly and carefully extracted himself from his son's grip and got up. He looked in the bassinet and saw Hannah was wide awake and looking around.
"You like your new home?" He cooed to her. Her eyes shot over to him. "I'm sorry princess. I didn't mean to scare you. This place is a lot quieter than your old home isn't it? Don't worry, once your brother wakes up it won't stay like this." He said with a smile. He gently kissed Hannah's head. "You are so strong baby girl. I knew you could pull through. I love you so much. I don't care what mommy says, I love you enough for both of us." He picked her up and brought her to changing table. As he was changing her, he felt a little body next to his. He looked down and saw that Neal had gotten up and climbed up onto the stool that was in front of the table. "Good morning son."
"Morning Papa. Morning Hannah." He said as he rubbed his little sister's bare leg while Adam dressed her. "Papa, can I hold her today?"
"Of course Neal. There's something I need to talk to you about though after we feed Hannah." Neal nodded and got down. Adam carried Hannah into Neal's room and placed her on the center of the bed so he could help Neal picked out clothes. After helping Neal get dressed, all three went into kitchen. Adam placed Hannah in her bouncer and fixed a bottle. Neal climbed up onto a chair and stood on it to see Hannah. "Neal, I know you want to watch your sister but you can do that while sitting. You'll get hurt if you stand up on the chair."
"Yes Papa." He sat down and looked up at his sister. "Papa, how come Mama tried to take me away?"
"That's what I need to talk to you about." He came over and sat down with the bottle in his hand. "Mama and Papa aren't going to be living in the same house anymore. Mama decided that she doesn't want to be part of this family anymore."
"Why?"
"I don't know son, but Mama wants to take you with her."
"I don't want to go. She's scary when she smells funny and that a lot." Neal said in almost a whiny voice.
"No one is saying you have to go with her. Mama and I are going to go to this place called court and a judge is going to decide where you can live."
"Can I tell the judge I want to live with you?"
"Maybe, I'll have to see but just remember that no matter what happens I will always love you and that won't change."
"Okay, I love you too Papa. Does Mama not love me anymore?"
"I'm sure she does Neal and she's just confused right now." Neal decided to drop the subject by nodding. "There's one more thing I'd like to talk to you about. You remember how your middle name is Baelfire? Well, that's actually supposed to be your first name. I'd like to change your name to Baelfire and call you Bae for short."
"I like that name. Can we go see Granny and Auntie Ruby?"
"I think we can do that. Let's get Hannah's bottle and we can have breakfast there." Bae cheered and got his shoes on, the right feet for once which shocked Adam. Adam got Hannah's carriage ready and put her in her seat. He decided to walk since it was nice out and not too cold yet. They walked to Adam's mother's diner and Bae ran in.
"Granny!" Granny walked around the counter and picked up the three year old. Bae hugged his grandmother. "Granny, I got a new name. Papa use my middle name."
"Papa changed your name?"
"Uh hu." Bae said as he tried to get out of his grandmother's arms and sat on a stool. Granny quickly gave him a to-go cup of hot chocolate even though he was staying to drink it. Adam smiled at his son and placed the carrier on the counter. Granny quickly turned it around to see her granddaughter.
"She's beautiful. Poor little girl."
"She'll be fine Mom. She's pull through this. I promise she's got me and you and Bae and Ruby, everyone is cheering her on to fight."
"I knew Miranda wouldn't care."
"Miranda left last night." Granny's head snapped up. Now I have to fight for my children."
"You'll get them. Miranda is not a fit mother and once they see what happened to Hannah, they'll see just that." Granny assured him. Adam nodded and looked at Bae."
"Bae, how about the park today?"
"Yay! Park, let's go Papa." Bae started to tug Adam's hand as the older man tried to grab his daughter's carrier.
"I guess we're going to the park. I'll see you later Mom." Adam had to stop Bae so he could put the carrier on the carriage. After twenty impatient minutes, they made it to the park. "Stay where I can see you Bae!" Adam called after his son as he took off running. Adam sat down on a bench where he could easily see his son. He peeked in the carrier and saw Hannah looking around. He pulled back the cover so she could see. "There, that better princess?"
"Professor Gold?" He turned around and saw Belle French standing behind him.
"Miss French, always a pleasure." Belle didn't answer, she was looking at Hannah.
"Is this her?" Belle asked. Adam smiled.
"Yes this is my daughter. Hannah Rosalie."
"She's adorable." Belle walked around the bench and looked into the carrier. Hannah looked at her and studied her face. Belle reached a hand gently in and Hannah grabbed her finger. "I'm so glad to see you're okay." Belle said mostly to the baby.
"She's definitely a fighter." Adam said. He looked for his son and stood up. "Bae! Don't throw the sand!" Belle looked up and saw the little boy with a mop of brown hair on his head.
"That's your son? He's so big now. Ashley would show me pictures of him. He's adorable." Belle gushed. "She hates that she can't babysit anymore."
"I hate that she can't babysit anymore as well. Since she doesn't go to school anymore, I could use her as a nanny."
"You need one? I'm certified as a nanny. I could do it for you. I don't have any morning classes so the only problem would be after five."
"I can work with that. If you really mean this Miss French, that would help me immensely."
"Of course. I would love to watch them."
"Well then," he pulled out a scrap of paper that happened to be in the bottom of the carriage and wrote his address on it and handed it to Belle, "come to my house tomorrow and we'll test it out."
"I'll be there early. I promise Professor Gold, you won't regret this." She got up and left the park. Adam sighed feeling as if a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
End flashback
All of the kids were smiling.
"So that's really how you and Mama met?" Lucas asked.
"Yes, that's how we met." Belle said. "There's also a lot more that you guys will hear later on." Belle's mind goes back to when Adam had found out about her involvement in Miranda's plan.
"Good night Mama. Good night Papa." The kids all say as if they planned it and walked up the stairs to their bedrooms.
"Belle? You okay?"
"Huh? Yeah, I'm okay. There's just something I need to tell you. I want to be the one to tell them about my involvement in Miranda's original plan. They need to hear it from me. Not so they can understand but because they will have to hear that part of the story and it's not your story to tell. It's mine and it's me that they should hate because of it not you for telling them."
"Belle, they won't hate you. They'll be confused and probably not understand but they won't hate you."
"You did."
"No I didn't. I was mad of course but I never hated you. I was confused and hurt and mad but I never hated you. I never have and I never will."
"I just don't want my children to hate me but they need to know about that part because in three years when Miranda gets out, you know she'll come here and you know she'll try to turn them all against us. They need to know the truth so there's no surprises then."
"We'll tell them together. You stood by me when Bae and Hannah were getting hurt and I'll stand by you. When we get to that part of the story you can tell them." Belle nodded. "Hey, everything will be okay." He passionately kissed her and led her upstairs to their bedroom to get a good night sleep.
