Adam sighed heavily as he sat down in the physical therapy room. His instructor came by. She was nice woman who had helped him the first time and wanted nothing more than to help him again.
"So, how's that baby girl of yours?" She asked sitting down handing him a bottle of water.
"Great. She's twelve years old and growing like a weed. Despite how she was born, she's beautiful."
"I bet. So I heard you got married and had two more kids. Eleven years ago," she playfully smacked his arm, "I thought you were going to keep in touch."
"With everything that happened with Miranda it slipped my mind. I apologize."
"Can see these two kids that you kept from me and this girl who thinks she's good enough for you?" Adam laughed and grabbed his wallet. He took out three pictures.
"This is my son Lucas and my daughter Bria. They're nine years old and twins. This beautiful woman is my wife, Belle."
"She's stunning. Wow, she different from Miranda?"
"Oh yeah. Polar opposite. I really love her and she loves me. She tells me every day."
"You're a lucky man. Okay, breaks over let's get back to work. You're almost done with tonight." Adam nodded and stood up. "You know, there's new operation that's just experimental but it could help you. Maybe get you a metal knee cap and you can walk again without the cane."
"How much would that cost?"
"I can't give you the exact figure but the doctor can. He'll be here tomorrow. I'll set up a meeting for you with him before we start."
"What do I tell Belle?"
"You don't need to. Not until you know for sure anyway. If you want to tell her something, try the truth." Adam nodded as they ended and drove home.
"Papa, I was wondering when you would get home." Lucas said. Adam smiled and hugged his son to his side. "Mama said she's telling part of the story tonight."
"She is. She wanted to tell a certain part of the story. Why don't you go wait with your sisters and brother and your mother and I will be right there. Do you know where your mother is?"
"Upstairs." Adam went up the stairs and into his room he shared with Belle. He found her sitting on the bed looking at something.
"Belle?" She looked up. "What are you looking at?"
"I found this. It's a picture of Miranda and I when we were younger. She's probably six in this picture and I'm three. Back when she loved me and wasn't crazy."
"You told them you would tell your side tonight?"
"I don't know if I can. There was a time that I loved my sister and a time when she loved me. When Dad started drinking is when she changed. He used her to con men out of their money. He used her as a prostitute. She had no problem doing it either. I don't know if can enclose my part is her scheme. I can't have my children hating me."
"They won't hate you."
"Really? I helped their crazy aunt try to destroy their father."
"Against your will. She basically threatened your life. I saw what Gaston did to you, any more time and he probably would have killed you."
"That was my own fault. I left the back door open."
"We've been over this! It wasn't your fault. It's been twelve years, Belle. Let this go." Adam all but pleaded. Belle looked back at the picture and put it back in the box.
"I can't do it. None of them know about my relation to Miranda. They'll think I'm just like her."
"No they won't. They'll still love you. The twins will still love you because they never knew Miranda and Bae and Hannah won't care. To them you're their mother. Knowing Bae he'll think it's cool that you're his aunt and his mother." Belle cracked a smile.
"Okay, but not tonight. We need to keep the story on track." Adam nodded and cupped her face and kissed her sweetly. There were a few times where he really kissed her and not just to turn her on. She savored these kisses because that was when she really knew he really loved her. She never doubted his love for her but the couple times he kissed her like he was at this moment it rang through crystal clear. He pulled away and smiled at her. He took her hand and pulled her up off the bed. They walked down the stairs together.
"We were worried you guy decided not to come down and just decided to hit the sheets." Bae said smugly. Hannah slapped him upside the head.
"Idiot." She muttered. Bae smiled and leaned over to kiss her cheek. "Ew!" She swiped at her cheek as if it could wipe off his kiss altogether. Adam laughed as he sat down in his chair.
"So they're been a slight change of plans kids. Your mom won't be telling the story tonight but she will tomorrow."
"Why?" Bria asked.
"Well, there's a certain part of the story that she wants to tell but we aren't at the part yet but tonight will fill in the gap and tomorrow she'll tell her part." Adam explained. "Okay, so on with the story."
Flashback
Adam sat in his office wondering what was going on with his children. After getting off the phone with his sister, he couldn't get his children off of his mind. His knew he had to leave early. Right after lunch, he was leaving. He started to e-mail his students when his door burst open. He looked up and his breath was caught in his throat. Miranda stood in the doorway.
"What the hell do you want?"
"My son. I want my son. If you give him to me every weekend and one day during the week, I won't bring you to trial. If you don't then I'll drag our little boy through it. Is that really what you want?"
"What I really want is what's best for Bae."
"You changed his name? He's my son you can't do that."
"I didn't change it I just call him Bae now. As I was saying what's best for Bae is not to be with you. He's scared of you Miranda. I believe his exact words were, 'Mama's scary when she smells funny.' He was referring to when you drink. No child should be scared of their parent. You want to drag through a trail go right ahead. Just remember that Bae will be there to testify against you as well as Ruby and my mother. You can't win Miranda." Miranda's face turned into a scowl and she left the room, but not before smacking Adam across the face. Adam's mind was made up, he was going home after lunch. He finally finished everything he could for that day and was able to go home. He walked in and always quite. He looked around and found no toys on the floor, no bottles in the sink, no nothing. His house was clean for once. He went upstairs and peeked in his room and found the bassinet gone. He ran to Bae's room and stopped when he saw the sight. Hannah's bassinet was in Bae's room with Hannah sleeping in it. Bae was sleeping in his bed with his teddy bear curled under his arm. Belle was sitting in a chair in the room reading a book. Soft music filled the room from the CD player he never used. Belle looked up feeling that she was being watched. She jumped when she saw Adam and put a hand to her heart.
"You're back."
"Yes, I think it was too early for me to go back to work I missed my children. I do have a question. Where are my children and where is my house?"
"I had a lot of time after they fell asleep so I cleaned up a little bit for you. I think the promise of a surprise made Bae want to sleep. Right after lunch, he ran up the stairs and got into bed. The music helped as well I think."
"I can't believe my son willingly went to bed."
"He was a gem all day." Belle got up, adjusted Bae's blankets, and left leading Adam away from the door. "I don't know what you and Ruby were talking about. He's so sweet."
"You just have magical powers." Belle quietly laughed and Adam decided that was his new favorite sound. He didn't know what made him do this but he reached and pushed a piece of hair behind her ear and kept his hand on her face. She looked at him and swore she stopped breathing. He started to lean in and just as their lips were about to touch, Hannah woke up and started crying. The spell on them was broken and Adam pulled away. Belle watched him go tend to his daughter.
"What the hell is the matter with you Belle? He's your Professor and boss. You seriously tried to kiss him? You need to think straight. You have a job to do." She yelled at herself in her head. Adam came back out with Hannah.
"Since I'm home you can go home if you want." Adam said rubbing Hannah's back hoping to put her back to sleep. Belle nodded still in a daze and went down the stairs. Her entire drive home all she could think about was that almost kiss.
End flashback
"You guys were so gross. Seriously right outside my room you guys almost kissed."
"Hey at least you didn't catch them. They were right outside their bedroom and Dad was trying to suck off Mom's face. Seriously right outside their bedroom."
"What do you mean Papa tried to suck off Mama's face?" Bria asked.
"It just means we were kissing sweetheart." Belle explained.
"Yeah, kissing a lot." Hannah said.
"I'm waiting for the day when Henry kisses you so we can tease you Hannah." Belle said.
"You can wait young lady." Adam said. Hannah smiled. "And it's late so let's get to sleep." The kids bid their parents a good night and walked up the stairs. Adam watched them go and without looking reached up and wiped a tear from Belle's cheek. She loved how he knew her so well that he didn't even have to look at her to know she was nervous or scared or crying. "I hope that tear is one of happiness remember our first almost kiss." He turned to her. She smiled at him and slid into his lap.
"Of course I'm remembering that. I think that was when I had a feeling that I was falling in love with you." He smiled and kissed her. He wrapped his arms around her and continued to kiss her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. He slowly stood up with Belle in his arms. He pulled away and that's when she opened her eyes and noticed she was higher than before. She looked down and saw Adam was holding her- while standing up. "Adam…"
"I can hold you in my arms while standing up." Belle beamed at him and kissed him again. He kissed her back before pulling away and sitting down. "There's something I wanted to talk to you about."
"Is something wrong?"
"No everything's wonderful actually. My instructor told me of a new operation it's experimental still but the doctor told me it's a pretty safe operation and it's too put a metal knee cap into someone who's been crippled. Belle, this could mean a new leaf for this whole family. It's costly but with the money from the estate my father left me it shouldn't be a problem. I wanted to take to you before I scheduled it."
"You've already decided to it?"
"I want this for us Belle. What I just did, how I held you. I could do that more often. I wouldn't need a cane. I could show you how much I love you in bed."
"Adam I don't care about those things. If I did I wouldn't have stayed, I wouldn't have married you, I wouldn't be here right now if I cared about those things."
"I know you don't care about those things. That doesn't mean you don't deserve them. You should be able to feel how much your husband loves you from under him instead of always having to do all the work."
"I feel how much you love me every day when you continue to come home to me, to our family. Adam I know you love me every time you kiss me and hold. If you're worried about the bed part you don't have to worry about that. Every time I look down into your eyes I see nothing but love, no lust, no emptiness, no desire, just plain powerful raw love." Belle said looking into his eyes. "The same love I've seen for eleven, almost twelve, years." Adam ran a hand down her cheek barely touching it.
"I do love you sweetheart. I do love you so much. I want to be the man you fell in love with again."
"You're still that man. You never changed. If you want to do the operation then I'll support you but do it for you." Adam kissed her again and she slid off his lap and handed him his cane. She slowly started up the stairs but turned back looked at him. "Are you coming Professor Gold?" Adam jumped to his feet and hoppled to the stairs where he saw Belle remove her shirt and throw it at him. He smiled and knew he was in for a long night.
