The T.A.R.D.I.S. flew through the air, and though Rose feared for her life, the man flying the machine seemed calm. "Hold on to something very tightly!"
"Ouch.." Rose muttered as the machine came to a final halt on the ground, the high wail of the T.A.R.D.I.S. stopping abruptly. They had crashed on their side, and the rails near the door were the only things keeping her from falling a good fifty feet.
The man held on to a bar near the console tightly. "You- you stay right there… hold on just a moment." He inched towards the edge of the bar before removing his grip on it completely.
"...Where are you?" Rose called, clutching to the pole, her grip beginning to slip. After a few minutes, she felt a shift in gravity. Her feet touched the ground. The man appeared again from stairs under the console.
"All better." He clapped his hands together. "So Rose-" He stopped abruptly, pausing before speaking again."Rose…"
After pushing herself into an actual standing position, Rose coughed. The previous fire that had erupted around them had all but ceased, leaving smoke clouding the air. "You know my name…" She frowned a little, squinting her eyes to shield them from the smoke.
"Of course I know you! You're Rose Tyler. But you don't know me- not at all." He walked over to her, gazing into her eyes for any hint of recognition. "Nope. Nothing." He took a deep breath as if the lack of oxygen in the air didn't affect him.
Rose took a step back. "I don't... But, who are you?"
"Uhm. Well, that's a funny story-" He paused, his gaze still on hers. She blinked, uncomfortable. "I don't know. I'm not really… not finished yet. But I am The Doctor. And you- I know you. But why. Why do I know Rose Tyler? It's not because you're pretty… maybe clever?" The man now known as The Doctor frowned a little, as if having a conversation with himself, and not with her. His head popped up as he looked at her again. "It'll come to me soon enough." The Doctor smiled.
Rose coughed again, feeling slightly light-headed. Whether it was from the lack of oxygen in her body or the overload of events in the last half-hour, she didn't know.
"Let's not just stand around like logs-" The Doctor's knees suddenly gave out on him, his eyes narrowing in pain.
Rose slowly moved towards him, still feeling unsure. He seemed a little.. odd. That familiar feeling still lingered though. And she knew when their gazes met that they'd seen each other before. It was the only thing keeping her the least bit calm, or at least sane. "Are you all right?"
"Fine." He took another breath before standing up. "Like I said- I'm not finished yet. Still cooking." The Doctor moved past her towards the doors. "What was I saying?" He wondered.
"Something about… logs."
"Ah- no use in standing around like logs, Rose Tyler-" He threw open the doors of the T.A.R.D.I.S, abandoning his previous sentence. The Doctor popped his head outside of the doors. When she glanced out, her eyes widened. The machine was still on it's side, or so it seemed. On the inside though, it seemed as if the gravity had changed completely. If it hadn't, she'd still be hanging on to that pole. Rose's head began to spin, a small headache beginning to form.
"How-"
Before Rose could ask her question, he answered it for her, shrugging. "She has a gravity system. Keeps her own center of gravity despite the conditions and astro-magnitudes of other planets around her. The poles flip, but not open endedly. Simple really." He paused, a goofy grin remaining on his face. "And it's spring! We've landed in spring. April probably."
"It was New Year's Eve…" Rose glanced over at him.
"And now it's spring. Time travel, Rose. It's a wonderful thing, really- well… most of the time."
Suddenly, a face appeared from the shadows. A little girl with red hair held a flashlight and was making her way toward them with a confused expression.
"Oh, hello!" The Doctor called. "Can I have an apple? I really want an apple. Maybe I'm having a craving…" He turned to Rose, who was staring wide-eyed at the girl. "Have you ever had a craving, Rose?"
"Uh, yeah..."
The girl suddenly spoke up. "Why are you all wet?"
The doctor swung his legs over the edge of the door. Rose followed, her center of gravity changing as soon as she exited the inside of the T.A.R.D.I.S. She fell forward, coming to a painful halt on the ground.
"I was in the pool! And then in the library. Took a hell of a long time to climb back up." He rolled up his sleeves.
The young girl walked over to help Rose up, to which she uttered a quick thanks.
Rose glanced up at The Doctor. "Is that why it took you so long?"
Before he could answer, the girl spoke again, her voice slightly accusing. "Are you a police man?"
The Doctor stared at her for a moment. "Did you call a police man?"
"...Did you come about the crack in my wall?" She wondered.
"What crack?" Rose asked, still attempting to comprehend the events of their crashing.
The girl was just about to speak again when The Doctor fell from the edge of the T.A.R.D.I.S., another fit of pain overtaking him.
"Are you alright, mister?" The girl wondered.
"It's fine.. it's okay.. it's all perfectly normal.."
Rose frowned a little as he fell back again in pain. She looked to the girl. "He's been doing that for a while now. He said something about not being finished yet."
"Oh." The girl replied, though she wasn't following at all what was happening.
They both exchanged a look before their eyes turned back to The Doctor, the girl narrowing her eyes as she observed him. His pain had seemed to subside, his eyes wide as a glowing light was emitted from his mouth, looking almost like smoke. His skin still held that same eerie glow that it held when Rose had first followed him. "Who are you?" The girl questioned.
"I don't know… just The Doctor right now." He paused. "Does it scare you?"
"No… it just looks a bit weird…"
"No, no. The crack in your wall. Does it scare you?"
"Yes.."
He suddenly hopped up from the ground, smiling broadly. "Well, then. No time to lose. I'm The Doctor. Do everything I tell you, don't ask stupid questions, and don't wander off." He quickly averted his gaze from hers and looked to Rose. "That goes for you too."
Neither Rose or the girl responded to him. The Doctor turned on his heels and began walking towards the house, assuming to two of them would follow. He looked up at the sky with a surprised expression after having run into a tree. Both of them stared down at him.
"You okay?" Rose asked.
"Steering's just a bit off…" He pushed himself from the ground and continued towards the house.

Rose stood in the doorway of the girls small kitchen, listening as the other two spoke to one another.
"If you're not a police man.. why does your box say "police box" on it?"
Instead of responding, The Doctor took a bit of the apple in his hand. He chewed it for a few moments before spitting it out onto the ground near Rose's foot. She cringed slightly. "That's disgusting. What is it?"
"An apple…" The girl responded hesitantly.
"Apples are rubbish. I hate apples."
"But you just said that you loved them." The girl frowned.
"No. No, yogurt's my favorite. That's what I want."
The girl sighed, but turned and moved to her refrigerator and grabbed out a small tin of strawberry yogurt.
He quickly opened the lid and shook some into his mouth, not bothering to ask for a spoon. Within seconds, he spit it out, splattering yogurt bits over the floor, managing to hit Rose this time with the food. She wiped it from her arm with the back of her hand.
"I hate yogurt. There are bits in it."
"You said you loved it…"
"New mouth, new rules." The Doctor wiped his face with his hand, catching Rose's slightly agitated expression. "Sorry." He then looked back to the girl. "Everything just tastes wro-" He shook violently as pain moved through his body.
"What's wrong with you?" The girl asked.
"It's not my fault." He shrugged. "Why can't you give me any decent food?"
Rose pulled up a chair at the kitchen table before crossing her arms. "Why don't you try bacon, everyone likes bacon…"
As the girl turned on the stove and began to fry some bacon, The Doctor grabbed a dishtowel from near the kitchen sink. He began to shake his hair into it, though most of the water evaded the towel and hit Rose and the girl instead.
"I think I'll like bacon!" The Doctor pulled out a chair at the table.
The three of them sat around the table, Rose and The Doctor on one side, with the girl on the other.
"Go on. Eat it." Rose told him as he held a forkful of bacon in front of him.
His expression began to grow pleased as he at the bacon, but before he swallowed, he spit it out onto his plate. "No. No bacon." He met the girl's eyes. "Are you trying to poison me?"
"Of course not." The girl rolled her eyes. "Now what."
"Beans."
Only a few minutes later, a mouthful of baked beans sat in the sink and a piece of buttered bread sat in the backyard where The Doctor had thrown it.
Rose remained in her spot at the kitchen table while The Doctor and girl looked through the fridge for food.
"Beans are evil, Rose." The Doctor muttered. "Evil, evil beans."
"I have carrots…" The girl suggested.
"No, that's not what I need.." He answered, gazing into the fridge. "I know what I need… What I need is.. is fish fingers and custard."
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"You're funny." The girl told The Doctor as the two of them took seats at the table next to Rose.
"That's good." The Doctor responded, his mouth full of fish fingers that were dipped in vanilla custard. "Funny's good, right?"
Rose nodded. "Funny's good, yeah." She couldn't keep herself from grinning slightly.
The Doctor looked to the girl. "What's your name?"
"Amelia Pond." She said, smiling a little.
"That's a brilliant name. Amelia Pond..."
Rose nodded. "Like from a fairy tale or something."
"And who are you?" She looked to Rose.
"My name's Rose. Rose Tyler."
"I like that. It's pretty."
Rose smiled at the girl. "Thanks."
The Doctor interjected the two girl's conversation. "Are we in Scotland, Amelia?"
"No. We're in England. It's rubbish.."
He continued eating his fish fingers. "What about your mum and dad, then? Shouldn't they be awake by now?"
"I don't have a mum and dad." She shrugged. "Just an aunt."
The Doctor nodded. "I don't even have an aunt."
"You're lucky."
He grinned. "Yeah. She does, though. A mum. Jackie."
Rose's eyes widened slightly. "You know my mum..."
"'Course I do." He shrugged, glancing back at Amelia. "Where's your aunt?"
"She's out."
"And she left you all alone?" Rose asked, her voice hesitant.
"I'm not scared…" Amelia told them matter of factly, crossing her arms.
"Of course you're not!" The Doctor responded. "Box falls out of the sky, man falls out of the box with woman. Man eats fish fingers and custard. And look at you."
Rose tilted her head a little. "You didn't even blink."
Amelia only shrugged.
The three of them sat in silence for a few moments before The Doctor spoke up. "So do you know what I think?"
"What?" Amelia asked, frowning slightly.
"That must be one scary crack in your wall."
