Chapter 4 - Bounty Hunting...
Rapunzel and Link run into the Forbidden Forest. They don't look back.
Meanwhile, Zelda and Mulan were frantically searching for Rapunzel at the dormitories and all around Princess Academy. After searching everywhere, they realize that they are on a wild goose hunt. They realize that Rapunzel is no longer on Princess Academy grounds. Similarly, Peter Pan and Flynn Rider are searching for Link at Prince Academy to no avail. Both boys and both girls know that they only have two choices: go outside of the grounds and look for them or tell the adults that they are missing. They all chose the latter.
"Headmistress Queenie! Rapunzel is missing!" Zelda pleads to the Headmistress. Headmistress Queenie does not look pleased. Her expression is a mixture of worry and surprise. She thought that her security was strong enough that no students would be able to leave the premises without her knowing about it. Obviously, crafty Miss Rapunzel had found a loophole in her flawless security system.
"Do not worry your pretty little heads girls. I know just who to send to find her. Miss Rapunzel will be back here in no time"
"That's a relief! Thank you, Headmistress Queenie!" exclaims Mulan before both girls prance out of Headmistress Queenie's office, the skip put back in their step.
As the door swings shut, the phone starts to ring. Headmistress Queenie picks it up and waits for the person on the other side of the line to talk.
"A student is missing from Prince Academy. This can only mean one thing. There is strange magic amidst us, I feel it." says a man on the other line. Headmistress Queenie recognizes the voice as the voice of the Headmaster of Prince Academy, Headmaster Kingley.
"Yes, I sense this strange magic too. There is a student missing from Princess Academy as well. I do not think this is a happy coincidence. I think I know what this strange magic is and we need to eliminate it. We must track down the two students who escaped. They must be in the Forbidden Forest. The forest is dangerous so I will send in two of my most trusted bounty hunters into the forest after them. Their names are Sheik and the Huntsman. The Unwritten is back. We need to destroy it before it throws off the balance of the world."
"Agreed." Headmaster Kingley answers. Headmistress Queenie could imagine him sitting at his desk, silently nodding his head in agreement as she speaks.
"Send the Huntsman to my office at midnight. I will have Sheik waiting and they will go off and find these vigilantes. Tonight." Headmistress Queenie say, smirking.
Link hops from tree top to tree top. He runs faster and faster. His hops begin to get longer and he jumps farther as his speed increases. He feels... so free.
Rapunzel runs after him on the forest floor. She loves the crunching noise that her shoes make when they crunch dry leaves on the ground. The wind whips her hair in all directions. Some of her hair is covering one of her eyes, but she doesn't mind. She just loves the free feeling she has in her heart as she speeds through the forest.
Rosetta struggles to catch up with Link and Rapunzel. Her little wings can't fly for too long before they lose all energy. Before Rosetta falls to the ground, Rapunzel stops and tucks Rosetta into her jean pocket. Rosetta relaxes as Rapunzel keeps running on. After a few more minutes, Link plops down onto the forest floor right behind Rapunzel, scaring the living daylights out of her.
"hahahaha! I got you good! You gotta admit it!" Link says, laughing and rolling on the floor at Rapunzel's look of complete horror.
"Hmph" Rapunzel answers. She picks up a twig and chucks it at Link. Link picks up another twig and throws it as hard as he can at Rapunzel. Soon both of them are chucking all kinds of twigs and pebbles at each other, laughing their heads off.
After they had their fun, the sit down on mossy logs and try to figure out their plan for the night. They want to find a place to crash for the night. They know that the forest is forbidden for a reason and they don't want to be out in the open at nighttime to figure out why that is.
"We can find a big log and sleep inside it!" Link offers his idea. Rapunzel shakes her head in disagreement.
"We would be safer up in the treetops. We should build some kind of tree house in the tree tops so we can be safe from predators that probably come out a night. We don't know what kinds of weird creatures come out at night in this forest! And I don't want to know!" Rapunzel adds.
"Good point, but how can we build a tree house now? We don't have much time until it gets dark... Wait why don't we stay there?" Link says, pointing to a shack that he just noticed was there. He could have sworn that the shack was not there a few moments ago.
Rosetta flitters out of Rapunzel's pocket and giggles.
"You did this, didn't you Rosetta? You sneaky little angel" Link says, grinning in his cute crooked way. He gives Rosetta a little pat on her tiny head. Rosetta giggles even more and plops a tiny kiss onto Link's cheek.
"I think she has a little crush on you, Link" Rapunzel teases.
"What? Are you jealous?" Link grins his crooked and adorable grin again.
"Nooooooooo" Rapunzel answers, running toward the shack. Inside, a fire is crackling in the fire place. There are two mattresses on the ground and a cooking pot to cook food in.
"Nice work, Rosetta!" Rapunzel tells her, giving Rosetta a little high-five with the tip of her finger.
"You couldn't make us some king mattress beds?" Link whispers to himself.
Rosetta hears him and comes over to scold him in her tinkling bell-like voice.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry, Rosetta!" Link smirks, plopping himself down on his sleeping mattress.
Later, Link builds a makeshift bow to shoot arrows that he sharpened with rocks. He learned in his hometown Hyrule how to shoot arrows from an early age. He begins to search for animals to shoot for food.
He spots a duck not too far from the shack in a little clearing with a little lake. He feels bad about shooting it, but he knows that Rapunzel and he have to eat somehow. They didn't bring any food with them. Bad idea.
Link motions for Rapunzel to come see. He wants to teach her how to shoot just in case she has to find food one day for them.
"Oh, I know how to shoot! Zelda taught me a little! Remember she is from Hyrule too so she learned from an early age too! She's an expert and I doubt you are as skilled as her" Rapunzel says, doubting Link.
"Can she do this?" Link asks, as he cockily shoots an arrow at the heart of a duck. The arrow misses by just an inch.
"No, only you can do that Link! Fail!" Rapunzel laughs.
"Hmph" Link answers, smirking.
"Okay, let us see YOU shoot a duck"
"Okay, watch me" Rapunzel answers.
She steadies herself before letting go of an arrow. The arrow lands in the heart of a duck. The other ducks fly away.
"You scared them away! Amateur" Link says, sauntering over to the duck. "Good shot though!"
"Whatever" Rapunzel answers, rushing over to the shack to start the fire that will cook the duck for their dinner.
Rapunzel stops in her tracks. There is movement inside the shack and the last time she checked there was no one in there.
Rapunzel creeps up to the shack really slowly. She peeks in and sees two shadow like figures inside. One figure is a tall person in a full body suit. There is a scarf covering most of the person't face, only the eyes are visible. The figure has a bow in its hand and a bag of arrows slung over its back.
The second figure is even taller than the other figure. This person is clad from head to toe in tough material clothing. The figure is holding a crossbow in its hand.
Nothing good could come from this.
Rapunzel whips around and runs as fast as she can toward Link. Rosetta hangs on for her life inside of Rapunzel's pocket. Rapunzel can hear the two people running after her, their footsteps heavy and frightening.
Link stands still in shock. Rapunzel pulls his arm as she passes by him and he starts to sprint after her.
"Where do we go? They are going to catch up!" Link calls out to Rapunzel as they run.
Rapunzel doesn't answer for a while. She is thinking. She thinks the best in silence and she thinks even quicker in near-death experiences like the one she is in right now.
"Head toward the little lake near the shack!" Rapunzel yells to Link, making a beeline toward the lake.
"Right behind you!" Link yells back.
Rapunzel picks up her speed as she hears the footsteps of their followers growing louder and closer. She sees an arrow hit a tree trunk just inches away from her leg.
Link and Rapunzel dodge the arrows as best as they can as they race toward the lake.
When they reach the lake, Rapunzel stops to think about what to do next.
The followers stop in their tracks and put up their weapons, threatening Link and Rapunzel.
"Come with us peacefully and no one has to get hurt" The taller figure says in a deep manly voice. He grimaces at Link and Rapunzel. He has a mask over his face so there is no way to tell who is behind the mask. The other figure loads an arrow into the bow.
"We really don't want to hurt you. We just want to take you back to the academies in one piece so we can collect our reward. C'mon, help a person out. It's hard finding cash these days" the figure says in a womanly voice. The girl is suited up in a full body suit an eye design in the middle of the chest. She looks pretty awesome with her scarf covering most of her face and only her piercing eyes visible. Her eyes bore into the souls of Link and Rapunzel.
Rapunzel closes her eyes tight and thinks of what to do next. She doesn't trust these bounty hunters and she does NOT want to go back to Princess Academy before she knows for sure what her Unwritten power can do...
Link looks at Rapunzel like she is crazy, but he doesn't make any sudden movements. He stays in one place and stares back at the bounty hunters, trying his best to look menacing.
Unwritten allows you to make your own story...
Rapunzel remembers that the white goddess told her this when she told her about her powers. Then, Rapunzel realizes that her powers could possibly get them out of this situation.
Worth a shot. What do I have to lose? Rapunzel thinks to herself as she imagines the lake behind her as a doorway to a safe meadow that seems to be made out of clouds. She opens her eyes keeping the image alive in her head. Then, she grabs Link's hand and pulls him into the lake after her. They dive into the water and swim down toward the blinding light that is glowing in the depths of the sapphire-blue lake.
Suddenly, Link and Rapunzel are standing on a cloud, still holding hands. The white glowing goddess stands before them.
"Good job, Rapunzel! You have just used your powers for the first time!" The goddess exclaims.
"That was amazing!" Link exclaims, giving Rapunzel a big hug, laughing.
Rapunzel gives him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you for believing in me even when I seemed like I was acting crazy!" Rapunzel tells Link. Link tries to hide his blushing cheeks. Rosetta flies in circles in the air, dancing with joy. She gives a little high-five to Rapunzel, giggling.
Rapunzel turns to the goddess. "What happened to the bounty hunters? Where are we? And what is your name? I forgot to ask you" Rapunzel asks the goddess.
"So many questions from such a little lady! The bounty hunters couldn't find you in the lake so they went back to Prince Academy and Princess Academy to report back to everyone. They think you are dead which is a good thing and a bad thing. Now they won't be looking for you, but now you can't go back because then you would be in very, VERY big trouble. This is good because now you will have more time to train your powers. Another bad thing is that the academies know that the Unwritten powers are back. That is a very, very BAD thing. They want to get rid of it like they did before. We are at my cloud castle. You can stay here as long as necessary. I sent you into the forest in order to test your powers and you are ready to train these powers! You can call me Cloud" The goddess explains.
"This is a lot to take in!" Rapunzel answers. "Why would they want to get rid of my powers and how did they get rid of it before? How did the powers of Unwritten come back? There are so many questions that I want answered..." Rapunzel says, the gears in her head churning.
"They will all be answered in due time, little lady. Now come with me into the castle. We have a lot of training to do!" Cloud answers, leading Link, Rapunzel, and Rosetta into the castle on the clouds.
