Episode 122
Casey and Hallie are back together. Gaby is confused about her feelings about their relationship. Mills invites Gaby to move in with him. Boden threatens Severide's position on squad so he doesn't contact Tara anymore. Mills and Dawson go on a date after shift and Mills tells Gaby that he is hurt by her failure to reciprocate the feeling when he told her he loved her. She says she is excited to move in with him. Casey visits Hallie at the clinic where she is working now. A girl comes to the station to tell Boden that she was a baby that was left on the front stairs of the firehouse 12 years ago that he rescued. Gaby confesses to Mills the news about Boden and his mother and he is mad that she didn't tell him earlier. They are called to a fire that is discovered to be at Hallie's clinic. She is trapped in the back and Casey and Severide barely pull her to safety. She dies later in the hospital
Confusion
Gaby drove them to the firehouse and helped Emily unload her things. Because they're across the street and because of the car accident when she was little, Emily instinctually grabs for Gaby's hand. They both face the firehouse and Gaby smiles; Emily's distance and anger had diminished for a fleeting moment and she relished in the feeling. They make it across the street after an opening in the traffic, and someone calls out their names.
It's Matt… and Hallie. He holds his hand up in a wave, that goofy grin plastered across his face. He lets it fall and turns to Hallie, who settles her hands on his hips and leans up to kiss him. It's a deeper kiss than they expected. Gaby deals with her own confusion while Emily's unspoken confusion rattles in her brain.
Her eyes burn with tears. Matt and Hallie turn to wave one more time. Her hands slips from her sister's and she lets out a wounded scoff. She turns violently on her heel and walks away and into the firehouse. Hallie looks to Matt in a sad way and he frowns. They have an inkling of knowledge as to what's going on but can't be sure. She isn't talking to anyone and it looks like it's going to stay that way until something changes.
Mills invited Gaby to move in with him and Emily overhears the conversation. She gets upset when he doesn't talk to her about anything involving Emily. She gets even more upset when Gaby doesn't catch it. Her eyes fill with tears and she desperately tries to hold them in. Her bag slung over her shoulder, she rushes into the bathroom. This is the first time she drags that blade across her wrist and relishes in its feel. She grabs a cot in the bunk room and takes her afternoon nap.
Shay and Alexxis meet
"Thanks for um… coming" Shay says to Alexxis, leading her into her own bunk room.
They pass Emily on Hermann's usual cot on the way. Alexxis stops for a minute and stares at her. Shay notices the tears the form in her eyes. They stand there until Alexxis looks up and gives her a watery smile and Shay continues to lead the way.
The door closes behind Alexxis, "I wanted to talk to you about her" Shay says.
"Yeah…" Lexxi says, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear; she's nervous.
"Her behavior… it's changed a lot" Shay says
"I've noticed. She's a little colder, not as participative. She's been working in the back studio, Abby only uses it when the moms are getting clingy, there's no skybox so they can't see- it's a privacy thing." Alexxis tells her.
"What does she do?"
"She choreographs. She puts on a song and works with it, for an hour or even more sometimes. Then she sits and writes down what she did, and she makes a list of whom on the team or in the studio could do that number. She doesn't always want to be the one to do It." she explains
"And she does that a lot?"
"She's got at least ten numbers written down, likely more… she's sore, and overworked, and getting skinnier and stronger at the same time… it's weird."
"She's crude here, just the other day I told her about my insemination and how my roommate is providing substance for me. She freaked a little, and I told her it would be… and I trailed and she just started yelling 'sex' at me… 'it's sex Shay, sex, you can say it… sex'" Shay told her.
Alexxis started to giggle, and Shay joined in with her. After a minute, Alexxis's laughter turned awkward and she got sad, her eyes filling.
"She sorta talks to me, she tells me a lot of what goes on here. I'm glad she does… she needs an out" Alexxis told her
Shay could feel it, "But…"
"She told me about the sensitivity training and how she went off… it was an accident. She didn't mean it… she was defending" Alexxis told her.
Shay just watched.
"I'm a foster kid, you know that. And those rumors about foster care? A lot of them are true." She began, "I um… I would know. It all depends on who you get placed with. Some homes are good, but it's rare. The government provides checks for the care of the kids, but a lot of parents they keep it for their own greed. And some get greedier."
Shay still didn't say anything, "I was one of the lucky ones I guess. I got to keep mine a lot longer than other kids…" Alexxis told her
"Keep what…?" Shay asked, "The checks?"
"She was defending me…" she revealed, "I got to keep my virginity until I was 13…"
Shay's breath caught, "Are you alright?"
"Mr. Eller is good, they use the checks for me… he hasn't looked at me sideways once. There were only 2 homes where it happened, 3 years apart, less than a year at each house. But the rest of them… I just want to be with the Ellers until I'm old enough."
"It makes sense now… her outburst"
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told her, but I thought… I've never told anyone." Alexxis told her.
Outside, Shay say Emily get up.
"Well, she's up… I hate to stop you here." Shay dug around, "Here's my card, if you need to talk to anyone, you give me a call or a text or an email…" Alexxis smiled and stood to leave.
Alexxis takes Emily to dance, and then Emily stays with Abby that night. So, she doesn't meet the girl with whom Boden has a heartfelt reunion with. And she is unaware of the Hallie situation. When she tells her sister where she's staying, her sister is fine, and Emily doesn't know that it's fine because of Hallie. If she had come home, she would have been made aware of it, and it would have been hard to deal with.
