I went a little wild with the school shooting. It and the aftermath comprise like 3 chapters, but something someone said made me look at it and change a lot of it. It's still 3 chapters, but I feel it's important to set the stage for a lot of that story.
So, to my real supporters and everyone who hasn't given up, I thank as many times as I can for sticking with me through this awful transition.
Episode 123
Hermann announces that the grand opening of Molly's will be a memorial for Hallie. Chief Boden announces that arson investigators are still investigating Hallie's death while Casey meets with the intelligence unit- Voight's unit. Casey demands to deal only with Antonio. The initial investigation shows that Hallie was killed before the fire was started. After a call comes through, and suspects are apprehended, it is brought to light that the murderer is in the drug trade. Boden, Casey, and Severide go to the clinic to help investigate the fire and Boden notices that patient files have been rummaged through. Boden and Severide are called to help a woman who is trapped in a sewer drain. Otis brings a Russian cousin to help with the grand opening. Shay and Dawson are called to the scene of a nurse who has been shot and it comes to light that she worked at the clinic. Shay and Severide go to the clinic. Dawson and Mills break up because Mills needs time apart. Casey takes part in a sting to bust the clinic owner and winds up becoming a hostage before Voight saves him. The opening goes smoothly and a mysterious woman tells Voight to continue acting dirty so they can take down some big drug kingpins.
Hallie
"Umm…" her sister started, she looked to her expectantly, "Last night, a fire we responded to… it was at the clinic where Hallie has been working."
Emily's heart froze, "Now…" her sister continued, "I know that you haven't been a big fan of her return, just like you weren't with Clarice's, but she was still important to you and I know you still love your aunt Hallie deep down in your heart somewhere."
Emily was at a loss of things to say, she needed her sister to get to the point, "Hallie didn't make it"
There was a sudden shrill ringing in her ears, the kind you would expect to hear if an explosion went off next to your ear. But there had been no explosion, there had only been four words to shatter her heart and soul into little, unfixable pieces. There was no ignoring the ringing, and no ignoring the pain in her chest that worked its way up her throat and then built behind her eyes with tears just dying to be released now.
She stood, didn't say anything, let the tears spill, and walked away. Gaby didn't seem to be able to do anything to stop her. She walked catatonically through the firehouse, passing all of the men that were there, and then out the door. Basil whined behind her, not because she was going to attack, but because she was suddenly worried. Emily looked around, eyes trained on the sidewalk, and broke into a run.
Across the street and on the sidewalk, she ran towards home, and all of them were in that direction except the firehouse: The studio was that way, Gaby's house was that way, and Tony's house was that way. She broke pace in two miles, and then kept pace for the next six.
By the time she was home, her legs burned and ached with such a passion, that if she didn't have a mission, a very final destination in her mind, she might collapse on the front steps.
In the bathroom, once she made it through the front door and stumbled through the house, she slammed the door and sank to the ground. Basil, worn out, went right for her water bowl and drank nearly all of it. She decided to give Emily some space, she was okay for now, and passed out on the couch.
Emily, in the bathroom down the hall, pulled her razor from its hiding place and stared at it for a moment, twisting it over in her fingers and watching as the light caught and glinted off the thin silver strip of the blade. She pressed it against the top of her thigh, which she now had exposed, and pulled it across. The initial sting surprised her, but it eventually felt good. There was no addiction to cutting. There was nothing she liked about it. It didn't actually
She didn't eat dinner that night. Emily seemed oddly devastated to everyone about Hallie's death considering she avoided the woman as though she was the plague for the entirety of the time she was back. But nonetheless, anyone's death, no matter who it is, brings back memories she'd rather not relive. She is away from the firehouse a lot recently because of this situation and is only given more and more opportunities to throw herself into work and overdo it.
She is able to see more of Antonio because of the investigation, but it saddens her that she is seeing him because of the investigation and not just because he is her brother. Emily is not looking forward to the opening of Molly's, she hasn't been the biggest supporter of it the whole time and now, with the opening and memorial growing closer, her scars ache a little deeper.
Gaby is sad for a few days because Peter broke up with her, but it seems to pass quickly and only a few people know that it's because she likely wasn't all the way committed to him in the first place. She is, however, angry at Mills for hurting her sister at all, and avoids him too. The beginning of him was so easy for her, he was brotherly and playful, but he's grown more grave and serious and his ambitions leave people in the dust.
