Dream Telepathy
In the pink and gold glow of morning, the early birds were greeting the new day with their cheerful songs, completely oblivious to the impending chaos about to befall the peaceful quiet of the forest.
"It's coming down! You ready, Nanuk?" Shouted a small child from high up in an old sycamore tree. He was laying across a thick branch that a large beehive was hanging from. Right before he cut through the remaining support to the hive, he paused and looked down again, scanning the ground. "Are you hiding, Matho?"
"Yes..!" Came a similar voice from somewhere below. "Be quiet, Aklark, or you might wake them up..!"
"No I won't. It's still really early." Aklark replied argumentatively.
"Just cut it down!" Demanded a large white bear at the base of the tree. He had a massive paw placed on the trunk as he stared hungrily up at the hive.
"Here it comes!" Aklark shouted excitedly as he cut the hive loose without anymore delay. The beehive seemed to explode when it hit the ground into a cloud of winged fury, however the large white bear appeared completely unfazed as he tore into it with obvious experience. A few minutes later, Aklark uncurled from his defensive position up high in the tree and peeked down again. Once he concluded that the bees were mostly gone, he called out to his brother. "It's safe now, Matho!"
Completely trusting the words of his brother, a small child, identical to the first appeared out of seemingly nowhere and walked over to the large white bear. "Come join us, Aklark." Matho called after he had picked up a piece of honeycomb dripping with amber colored sweetness.
"I'm trying..!" Aklark replied from above them. Matho looked up and noticed his brother was having trouble getting down. He couldn't quite reach the lowest limb.
"Nanuk." Matho said as he placed a tiny hand to the bear's large head. He received no reply. Frowning, the young child reached up and tugged at the bear's ear. "Nanuk, help Aklark." Nanuk growled slightly at the interruption of his breakfast. He then turned his head to stare at Matho for a moment, honey dripping from his chin before he redirected his attention to the other cub. He finally huffed, abandoning his meal momentarily to help the hapless child stuck in the tree. Nanuk placed both paws onto the lowest limb and stretched out as far as he could while Aklark reached down. There was still a gap however.
"I'll help." Matho said as he climbed onto Nanuk's back and made his way up towards the bear's large head. Nanuk made a small grumble of discontent when Matho accidentally pulled his ear again then stood up on top of his head. "Here, Aklark. Grab hold of me." Matho instructed as he reached up to his twin with both hands. Aklark smiled and took hold of his brother's hands. However, just as he was about to jump down, there was a loud snap and he was nearly pulled out of the tree by the newly added weight of his twin.
"Don't let go, Aklark!" Matho cried as he tightened his grip on his brother's hands and looked down. The ground seemed so much further away now for some reason.
"I have you." Aklark reassured as he easily pulled his twin up and onto the branch that they were both now stuck on. "What happened?" Aklark asked as he and Matho peered down to investigate. Nanuk was on his back and staring grumpily up at them, a heavy sycamore limb was laid out across his middle. The large bear effortlessly pushed it off then righted himself. After one last huff, he turned his attention away from the two small children stuck in the tree and back to his breakfast.
"Don't eat it all, Nanuk!" Aklark yelled as he leaned over the edge to glower down at the large white bear.
"Careful, Aklark." Matho warned quietly as he pulled his twin back from the precarious position he was in. Aklark sat back on the strong branch and crossed his arms sulkily. Matho gave his twin a humorous look as he recognized the expected reaction. His expression turned sympathetic though, when he heard the hungry growl of his brother's stomach. "Here." He said as he reached into a small pouch at his side. Aklark looked over with interested as he witnessed his brother pull out a sticky honeycomb. "You can have this."
"Really?" Aklark asked as he eyed the honeycomb hungrily. Matho simply nodded. Aklark smiled brightly as he reached over and took the gift then eagerly had a bite. A moment later, he noticed his brother staring at him the way he usually did whenever he really wanted something. Aklark gave him a humored smile before tearing the honeycomb in half. He then handed Matho the larger half and grinned. "Let's share."
Matho smiled back and nodded as he accepted his half of the honeycomb. "Alright." He agreed gratefully.
A few minutes went by in silence as they enjoyed their meager breakfast. The last remnants of the earlier pink and gold hue were receding to a cheerful blue sky overhead as the twilight chorus was replaced by the daytime melody of the forest.
"How do we get down now?" Matho asked as he stared down at where the lowest limb used to be. The only way down now, was a long drop straight to the forest floor and they were far too high to jump.
"Maybe we should try flying." Aklark suggested half seriously as he chewed on the sweet waxy substance that used to resemble a honeycomb.
Matho's stomach squirmed slightly at that thought. He then, without much thought, reached out and subtly took hold of a leather flap on his brother's pants. "You can't fly, Aklark…" He reminded quietly.
"How do you know?" Aklark retorted with a pout. He then shakily attempted to stand up on the branch they were currently on. "Sure, I landed in a holly bush that one time, so maybe I just need practice."
Matho felt his stomach drop as he watched his twin stand up on the branch like a fool and spread his arms as if he hadn't learned his lesson the last time. "No, Aklark..!" Matho cried as he leaned over and wrapped his arms securely around one of his twin's legs. "Maybe you should try practicing when we're closer to the ground." He suggested quickly.
To his brother's relief, Aklark relented with a small sigh and sat back down. "You're probably right… Besides, it's not so bad up here anymore, anyway."
"It's not?" Matho asked as he leaned back against the trunk of the tree while still keeping a watchful eye on his impulsive brother.
Aklark shook his head and grinned. "Because you're here now." He explained. "Matho's my favorite, after all."
Matho looked away with a soft smile. "Aklark is my favorite as well.." He replied shyly.
Aklark's eyebrows rose slightly in surprise. "Even more than Nanuk?"
Matho looked back to his twin with a small frown. "Nanuk is very dear to both of us. But you are special to me here." He explained as he put a hand to his bare chest, over his heart.
Aklark's azure eyes traveled down to the faded blue handprint just beneath his twin's hand. He had actually placed that on him a few days ago when they had visited the last village. Aklark subconsciously lifted his hand and touched his own chest where he knew Matho had left a handprint as well. They had been doing this for so long, it almost felt as if it were a part of them, like some kind of strange birthmark. It was something special between just the two of them that neither completely understood. Aklark stared for a moment longer before turning his gaze toward the clear blue sky as he thought about how to respond. Matho was really special to him too but Aklark always found it difficult to express his feelings verbally, unlike his brother, who seemed perfectly skilled at it.
Matho felt a pout coming on as he stared at his twin, who's attention appeared to had wandered off into space instead of acknowledging his words; it wouldn't be the first time either. Before Matho's mood could sour any further however, his brother finally decided to reply.
"You're the stars to my sky, Matho." Aklark proclaimed as he continued to stare skyward.
Matho tilted his head in confusion before he too looked up to the seemingly endless expanse of blue. There weren't any stars out, it was daytime. He sat and quietly pondered his twin's words for a moment. Aklark loved stars, they were one of his most favorite things. A small smile formed on Matho's lips. Perhaps his brother was saying that he preferred him to the stars. As if he were somehow more precious to him than the stars were. It was a rather odd way of saying it but Matho felt like he understood his twin's words.
"Well, you're the aurora to my sky, Aklark." Matho finally replied as he turned back to his brother. He did love the aurora after all, but he knew he loved his twin more.
"Really?" Aklark asked as he turned his gaze back to Matho with a happy expression. "Well, you're the moon to my night."
Matho smiled back as he returned his brother's statement with the obvious response. "And you're the sun to my day."
"You're the sand to my desert." Aklark continued almost instantly. This was becoming fun for some reason.
"Well, you're the snow to my tundra." Matho replied happily.
Aklark gave a slight frown. "But, Matho, snow's so cold.." He protested.
Matho gave his twin a humored look. "Yeh, but it's pretty."
A smile spread across Aklark's face as he understood. "Well then, you're the flowers to my prairies."
Matho gave a small blush at that. Flowers were beautiful after all. "You're the trees to my forests."
Aklark grinned. He loved trees, ..except maybe for the one they were currently stuck in. Trees were strong and impressive. "You're the sap in my trees." He laughed.
"The sap?" Matho frowned. "But sap's so bitter…"
"Not all sap." Aklark argued. "Some sap is really sweet, remember?"
"Are you saying I taste sweet then?" Matho asked skeptically.
"Do you?"
"I don't think so…" Matho replied. He then lifted his hand and licked the back of it curiously. Aklark leaned closer to his twin to see his reaction. "I don't taste sweet, Aklark." Matho informed with slight disappointment.
"You just didn't lick the right place." Aklark stated. He then took his brother's face in his hands and leaned forward. Matho blushed as he felt his twin slide his warm tongue over his mouth and across his right cheek. Aklark then pulled away with a smile. "Matho is sweet." He stated a-matter-of-factly. A moment later he felt his own cheeks heat up as his twin leaned forward and returned the gesture.
"Aklark is sweeter." Matho smiled.
"You're what makes me sweet." Aklark replied as he mimicked his brother's expression.
"Or, it could just be the honey." Matho smirked before licking one of his fingers.
"But Matho, you are my honey." Aklark retorted with an identical smirk. Matho huffed softly as he rolled his violet eyes at his twin's last comment. Somehow Aklark had managed to make this into a competition and now he was winning too…
"Aklark." Matho said quietly, gaining his twin's attention. Aklark, who had been licking the sticky sweetness off his fingers as well, looked over to his brother curiously.
"You see all this?" Matho asked as he gestured to the entire view from where they sat. "You're all of this to me." He declared with subtle triumph. Aklark frowned slightly as he gazed out at the lush scenery, trying to think of a better comeback to top his twin's. An entire minute went by as Matho sat quietly beside him, a smug expression on his face.
"Well.." Aklark started slowly as he turned back to look at his twin. "You're my everything, Matho."
Matho's cheeks heated up after hearing that. Despite the fact that his brother had actually come up with something better, he couldn't help but feel extremely happy with the response he had been given. Not to mention, Aklark had said it in the most honest way. Matho smiled warmly as he took his twin's hand in his then laced their fingers together. "You're my everything as well, Aklark."

Matthew smiled softly as he unconsciously nuzzled his cheek into the fabric of his brother's nightshirt. Hearing his twin's steady heartbeat and feeling the rise and fall with each breath he took was enough to lull Matthew back to sleep. He wanted to continue the dream he was having. 'Why was I dreaming of our native days..?' He wondered groggily. 'That was so long ago…'
'Your everything, eh?' Matthew mused remembering the childish conversation from his dream. A moment later however, the events of the night before started reassembling inside his mind. "..You were my everything, Alfie. You still are my everything.." He heard his own words replay back to him in his head. Matthew's eyes snapped open as an involuntary blush broke out over his face. 'Maple! That's why I was having that dream..!'
Despite how comfortable he was, Matthew begrudgingly lifted himself from the warmth of his brother and looked around. They were both sprawled out near the center of the bed for some reason and had obviously slept on top of the covers last night. The Canadian tilted his head slightly as he tried to piece together why this was. A frown slowly formed on his face. The last thing he remembered was Alfred gently rubbing his back as he tried to console him. Matthew's blush deepened. 'I can't believe I cried.' He whimpered pathetically inside his head as he stared down at his sleeping twin.
The American's head was turned to the side, his wheat blonde hair had fallen over his eyes as he slept. Matthew subconsciously chewed on his lower lip as he observed the slumbering teen. Alfred had tried so hard to comfort him last night and it reminded him of just how sweet and caring his brother could be when he wasn't trying to hide it from everyone. That just made Matthew feel even worse as he thought back to what had happened the night before. He remembered how he had ranted at Alfred, how he had unloaded all of his stress and frustrations onto him. But mostly, he remembered his awkward choice of words that had slipped out accidentally. It had been unbearably embarrassing at the time, however he was so glad he had said it, because now he finally knew how Alfred really felt.
Matthew gave a warm smile as he reached out and gently brushed some of the messy strands away from his twin's face. Upon doing so, he was greeted with beautiful azure as Alfred opened his eyes then slid them over to gaze up at him sleepily. A small smile slowly formed on his face as he turned his head towards Matthew. "Good morning, Matho…"
Matthew's clear violet eyes widened a fraction before his expression softened again. 'Just a coincidence.' He reasoned as he quelled his excitement. "Good morning, Aklark." He replied, playing along with his brother's odd greeting. Alfred's eyes seemed to light up in response. Without saying another word, the American smoothly pushed himself into a sitting position then reached out and placed a hand to his brother's cheek with care. Matthew was taken by surprise as Alfred leaned in with confidence and pressed his lips to his in a gentle and loving kiss. The Canadian felt the familiar sensation of butterflies stir up inside of him from the unexpected show of affection. But before Matthew could respond, Alfred ended the kiss and leaned back a bit so he could stare into his twin's mysterious twilight orbs. He then smiled softly. "You really are the stars to my sky, Mattie."
The slight disappointment Matthew had been feeling from the briefness of the kiss was blown away entirely by his brother's words. "Why'd you say that?" Matthew demanded as he tried to quell his growing excitement.
Alfred frowned, slightly taken aback. "Cause you are." He defended.
"No, that's not what I meant." Matthew shook his head. "I mean why did you choose those exact words?"
Alfred tilted his head like a confused puppy for a moment before his smile returned. "It must have been something I heard in that weird dream I was having."
"Was I in it..?" Matthew pressed.
"Of course you were." Alfred replied, amusement evident in his voice.
Matthew rolled his eyes a little at that, although he wouldn't deny it left him feeling happy that Alfred dreamed of him and that he would actually admit to it as well. "What was your dream about..?" He asked curiously, though he tried to keep his hopes guarded for possible disappointment.
"Well, ..it's kind of dumb." Alfred warned as he gave a light chuckle. "I dreamed we were back in our native days and for some reason we were both stuck in this really big tree. Since we couldn't get down we just ended up talking about stuff.. Pretty lame, right?"
Matthew felt his stomach bubble up with elation. They had both had the same dream! It wasn't just a dream either. Matthew knew for a fact that that had really happened. It was a memory! Which meant Alfred had finally remembered something! "What else do you remember..!" Matthew urged, barely able to suppress his excitement.
Alfred stared at his twin for a moment, surprised at his obvious curiosity. He felt warmth fill his chest. He didn't know why his brother was so interested in this but he was happy that Matthew appeared to be happy. A mischievous smirk formed on Alfred's face as he leaned forward again. Matthew was caught off guard as he felt his brother gently push him backwards onto the bed.
"I remember you tasted really sweet." Alfred replied in an almost silky voice as he leaned over his brother.
"A-Al?" Matthew stuttered when he felt a warm tongue slide across his cheek, making his face heat up almost instantly from his twin's bold actions.
"You taste salty this time." Alfred stated with slight disappointment.
"Idiot.." Matthew retorted with a small smirk as he pushed himself up on an elbow. Before Alfred could argue about that, he was pulled into a kiss by his usually shy and reserved twin, not that he would complain of course. Matthew felt Alfred smile into the kiss before he was pushed flat against the bed again.
'We can talk about this later..' Matthew relented as he brushed his fingers into his twin's tousled wheat blonde hair.

and just when it was getting good too! lol
(Matthew tasted salty because he had been crying the night before.) just in case you were wondering.
Sorry, no Italy's in this chapter!

WMD's notes
Matho means Bear in Lakota
and
Aklark means Bear in Inuit.
Yes, they both call eachother Bear. It's a headcannon of mine, since it's very unlikely that they had their English names back then. To me, these names just seemed to click. Plus, it sort of sounds like they named eachother and that's totally freaking adorable! :3
Maybe I should write something about that..
xXx
Sorry the chapters are still coming out a little slow. I'm trying to make them a bit longer to make up for it.
There's going to be a curious case of "Awesomeness" in the next chapter.
Please leave a review, it always means so much to me~
