Outlanders Chapter 10: Getting Ready
Xephos's eyes started to twitch again. "You're going to test a man who just spent three years getting tortured?"
Maverick look at the other captain with a smirk, his green eyes shined brightly even though there was a war around them. "If I know you Xephos… This'll be easy for you." With that he led Xephos to another room in the base, it had a dirt floor arena in the center, scattered throughout the room was scraggly looking pole training dummies, made from anything they could scrounge together.
Xephos chuckled a bit. "This is what you're training your men with? It looks like a kid's playground!"
Maverick glared at Xephos. "Well I'm sorry your highness, we don't have the resources to make the greatest training grounds this world has ever seen."
Xephos only cracked a smile. "Sorry friend, if I seem a bit rude, forgive me."
"Oh I'll forgive you, but I'll also give you a beating too. Now get your squirrely ass in there and let's see what you can still do." Maverick said, pushing Xephos into the ring and handing him a pole.
"A pole?" Xephos said looking at the sword length stick.
"Would you rather I beat ya with a sword than? Or how about we skip the close combat and move onto our new guns." Maverick said grinning.
Xephos looked at Maverick and went a bit pale. "... It's never a good sign when you give that look…"
Maverick only chuckled in response, and lunged at Xephos.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~5 hours later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maverick was standing, resting on his pole, looking at Xephos with a grin. Xephos on the other hand was down on his knees panting like he just ran a marathon. "Golly, you in terrible shape than what I expected you to be."
"S-shut up…" Was the only thing Xephos was able to say, still trying to muster some strength to stand up again.
Maverick rolled his eyes and pulled Xephos up to his feet with ease, patted him on the shoulder and walked off. "Here's a hint, your stance was off."
Xephos only looked at his old friend walked off, leaving him in the training ring. "Oh… that could have made the difference," he said out loud to himself. He then turned to the dummies that they have, "Welp… while I'm here, better make the best of it," and started to train on the dummies.
