"Enjolras look!" Jehan shouted as we approached the podium. It was the biggest crowd we've ever had and I was ready. Courfeyrac and I jogged up the stairs to the podium.
"Hello everyone, my colleagues and I are glad you could make it today and show your support. I know you all have families and jobs, and I realize this is valuable time you could be using to feed your families and earn money, so I'll make this short.
"This government, or our lack of one, is keeping all of you oppressed! They are stealing the money for themselves and their fur coats!"
"Yeah!" a man yelled from the crowd.
"Where are our so called leaders?" I felt adrenaline pump through my blood, "They are sitting on their fancy chairs sipping wine while good men and women like yourselves struggle and survive everyday?"
"Are we going to let them crush us until we are not even worth the dust on their shoes?!" Courfeyrac asked rhetorically.
"No!" the crowd replied.
"Grantier!" I called him up, the intoxicated man stumbled up the stairs, "Did you bring it?" I whispered, he nodded.
"I see that some of you are not wearing cockades, anyone who does not have one raise your hand," some of the people raised their hands and some got out their pins and put it on, "In a minute my colleagues will give you you one,"
"How are you gonna help us now," a man declared.
"Well, do you have children monsieur?" I asked singling Grantier to roll two barrels over here.
"Uh, yes I have two girls and a wife," he looked skeptically.
"Would you mind making your way to the podium?" the crowd split and he came up to me.
"Are you a hard working man?" I asked.
"Of course, I'd do anything for my girls," he responded quickly.
"Alright, Grantier," Grantier gave me two loafs of bread and one bottle of wine. I turned to the man.
"These gifts are for your household to know things are changing and the Les Amis will do everything in their power to help you, go home to your family monsieur," he took the wine and bread; he shook my hand and left.
"Alright Les Amis," they all came up and distributed wine and bread to
the whole crowd.
Everyone cleared with many thank you's. "Ready everyone?" I asked anxious to get back to Eponine.
Eponine's POV
I squinted my eyes open to see my surroundings; I was covered in soft red sheets and the lights seemed to be dimmed, I was in Enjolras's room.
"She's awake!" I heard Joly announce. I saw him and Combeferre in the room.
"Eponine do you know where you are?" Combeferre inferred.
"I'm in Enjolras's room, right?" I asked to confirm.
"That's right, do you know what happened?" Joly asked.
"Yes the gang that attacked Enjolras came back for revenge while I was handing out the cockades," I told them the partial truth.
"Boys, we did well today, I believe we will get more followers, you deserve a break for tonight, enjoy," I heard Enjolras's voice downstairs. "Combeferre, how's Eponine?" he boomed while thundering up the stairs.
"Well, if she was feeling bad or sleeping she wouldn't be with all the noise your making," he teasingly scolded him. Enjolras looked over to me and breathed a sigh of relief.
"How are you Eponine?" he asked sitting beside me on the bed.
"I have a huge headache and my sides hurt, but other than that I feel okay," I replied truthfully.
"Eponine has bruised sides and a bump on her head, but no concussion," Joly said giving Enjolras his report.
"Alright, Eponine you should get some rest, and if you two are done," he left his statement hanging and the boys left the room.
"You were attacked by your father, correct?" he rhetorically questioned. "Did you try to return home?"
"No I fell into one of their traps and was caught by my mother and father," I replied quietly.
"At least you were able to come back, and you are safe now," he stood and made his way to the door.
"Enjolras," I called for him; he moved his head to the side to hear me, "thank you for helping me."
"It was no trouble," his low voice responded, "it wasn't as if Marius was going to do anything." he said so low I thought I imagined it. I shook my mentally and lied it on the soft pillow and fell asleep.
