FIVE – SPARKY
"He's so cute!"
"He looks just like his dad."
"How old is he?"
"Did you name him yet?"
"His name is Sparky." Roy smiled proudly. He had spent hours pondering about a perfect name for the newest member of the Mustang family. But judging from all the looks and raised eyebrows he was just receiving, his friends didn't really appreciate his effort.
"Why on earth did you name him Sparky, sir?" Havoc asked dumbfounded, a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
From a corner of his eye, Roy could see his wife smirking. Riza had plain told him his name was stupid.
He shook his head. How could they not see?
"Because he's so sparkly," Roy said matter-of-factly, and raised the pup in front of himself so they could see his point.
The pup had black sparkly eyes and his coat was almost all black except little white spots that looked just like tiny sparks.
So, Sparky. It was a beautiful name for the dog of Flame Alchemist, or so had Roy thought.
They were all sitting on the office floor, admiring the new pup in Mustang family. It was the third one this year. Hayate sure was popular with the neighbor's dog.
"He looks like Felix to me," said Falman, already calculating in his head what name suited the little puppy the best.
"Or Hugo," Havoc joined in just to annoy Roy.
"I think Beast would be more appropriate!" Breda shouted from the top of his desk. He tended to climb on the nearest office furniture as soon as he caught sight of one of the Mustang's dogs entering the office. "Just look at that beastly face!"
Everybody looked at the pup who yawned in return, obviously tired from all the attention he was getting.
After raising his eyebrow at Breda he gently put Sparky in his bed that under his desk. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the fluffy pillow, unaware of the commotion he caused in Roy Mustang's office.
…
As they were both lying in the bed, Roy's arms around her waist and lips gently exploring her neck, Riza kept thinking about the day in the office.
"Roy?" she averted her husband's attention off her neck.
"I've been thinking about all that mess with naming the dog..."
Roy smiled against her shoulder. He had been thinking about that, too but was unsure how he should tell his wife he wanted their family to grow, not because of Hayate's children, but their own.
"So after considering the fact you named our dog Sparky, and the other two Fluffy and Blinker…"
"Those are lovely names" Roy interjected.
"...I've concluded that you should probably stay away when we would name our kids."
Okay, that was not what Roy expected when Riza said she had been thinking. But either way, he couldn't help a smile tugging on his lips.
Because his wife said when not if and kids not kid.
Roy could live with that.
A/N
So you thought I would make Roy name his son Sparky? I'm not that crazy.
Naming the dog is very important! I almost let my dog be named Čajpij. (Čaj – tea, pij – drink)
