Chapter 3 of: Broken Hearts and Empty Souls.
"Bye then Damon." Rachel let out a laugh as she walked through the doors once again, only to be greeted with the frozen drink she learnt to deal with.
"I warned you jocks and now it's your turn to pay."
Damon launched at the jocks, knocking them to the ground with ease. They were nothing compared to him and it was time for them to pay the price. He can't entirely remember what happened to him at that point, but he felt a bit of satisfaction with every punch.
"Damon stop it! DAMON GET OFF THEM NOW!" Rachel pleaded as she grabbed his arm to stop him.
Her words washed over him and he turned to glance at Rachel with confusion... Why did he suddenly care so much about Rachel Berry? He hadn't felt this way for centuries. A pair of strong arms dragged him down the hall and he immediately recognized the person.
"Stefan." He stated simply as he leaned against a brick wall outside the school.
"Damon, what you did there was uncalled for. What are people going to think? Who is going to believe that one person could take on 6 other jocks?" Stefan let out a deep sigh as he brushed his hand through his hair.
"I get it Stefan, I stuffed up. I can't explain why I did it because you know what, I'm so confused Stefan. There I admitted it, go tell the world."
"Damon, you like Rachel Berry. It scares you to feel that way about someone, especially a human." Stefan glanced around his surroundings as he spotted Elena coming their way in full force.
"Just go home and take some time to think. I'll cover you and it'll give Elena some time to cool down before she blows up on you." Stefan gave Damon a smirk as Elena was now nearing.
"I'd never thought I'd say this to you Stefan, but uhh Thanks... I suppose." Damon walked over to his car and was out of sight before Elena could make a single protest.
"Where did he go Stefan?" Elena asked angrily, with crossed her arms and eyes slowly narrowing with every second passing by.
"He needed time to think Elena, just let him be for now... He is confused Elena, never has he felt this way about a person since..." Stefan felt no need to finish his sentence as he guided Elena back inside the school entrance.
"That doesn't mean I won't get to him later Stefan."
"Elena..." Stefan chuckled as he collected his books for the next class. Some people may wonder why he'd bother going to school. He just wanted to be a normal seventeen years old again, like that would ever happen, he thought sadly.
Stefan gave Elena a quick peck on the lips before he walked over to his next class, "Meet me at my locker when you finish class." Stefan stated, before walking down the crowded halls
Man Hands, RuPaul, Yentl, Freak, Treasure Trail... Rachel sat curled up in a bathroom stall as the names echoed in her head, a constant reminder that she is worthless and hated. She let out a quiet groan at the screeching of the bathroom door opening. When the end stall door closed she decided to make her escape. Just as she reached the door she was stopped by a familiar voice,
"Rachel is that you? Were you crying?" Elena's worried voice made her stop to a halt.
"I'm fine Elena... You don't need to be my personal babysitter." Rachel said, clearly annoyed at being stopped. Elena came closer to her and she immediately turned her head to try and hide her puffy eyes.
"You were crying Rachel, now what happened?"
"Look Elena, nothing happened alright. I was just remembering something from my old school so please just leave it."
"Well it must be something, considering you were crying. You can tell me anything Rachel. I know we just met but I really want to be your friend and help you." Elena reached out to her and wrapped her in an awkward hug. Rachel didn't return the gesture but Elena knew it must have been progress, considering Rachel didn't entirely push her away.
"Come on Rachel, I'll walk with you to class." Elena was already guiding Rachel to her next class before Rachel could stop her.
"Hey Elena." Stefan greeted as he pulled her into a kiss at his locker.
'Hey, Stefan have you seen Rachel anywhere? I found her in the bathroom earlier on crying."
"No I haven't... If you like, I can help you look for her?" Elena gave Stefan a quick peck on the lips before grabbing his hand and walking with him down the hallway, searching for Rachel who was nowhere to be found.
Damon sat on a stool with bourbon in hand... It seemed like the same old routine he'd do whenever his life seemed to take an unexpected turn. Rachel came out of nowhere and had already changed his life. No one had ever meant that much to him in such a small time frame.
"Damon... What are you doing here?" The soft voice echoed throughout the room.
"I could ask you the same question Rachel." Damon replied with a hint of drunkenness evident in his voice and choice of wording.
"Wow Damon, I never pictured you to be the type of person who drank their problems away with alcohol. Clearly I was wrong." Rachel stated before turning to the door and walking out.
"Rachel wait... I didn't mean it." Damon looked around and was greeted with the empty room, the cashier nowhere to be seen. He used his speed to block the doorway.
"Damon, how did you get there so fast?" Rachel stepped back and glanced swiftly at the stool Damon once occupied.
"Look Rachel, I don't know what I'm doing right now. I'm confused..."
"What are you Damon? No human is that quick..." Rachel continued to take a few steps back as fear washed over her. What was Damon Salvatore, she was yet to find out that mystery.
