Chapter 4 of: Broken Hearts and Empty Souls.
"Damon, how did you get there so fast?" Rachel stepped back and glanced swiftly at the stool Damon once occupied.
"Look Rachel, I don't know what I'm doing right now. I'm confused..."
"What are you Damon? No human is that quick..." Rachel continued to take a few steps back as fear washed over her. What was Damon Salvatore, she was yet to find out that mystery.
"I'm not going to hurt you Rachel, please just let me explain." Damon indicated for Rachel to take a seat before he pulled out his phone to text Stefan and Elena.
Damon: Stefan come to the Lima Bar ASAP and bring Elena. Rachel knows that we aren't human.
Stefan: I'm on my way should be there any moment.
Damon sighed as he slid his phone back into his pocket as he poured himself another glass of bourbon. At this rate, things weren't looking his way.
"We're here Damon." Stefan said as he knowingly glanced at Damon. He remembered the exact same feeling he experienced when he had to tell Elena he was a vampire.
Elena walked straight past Damon and wrapped an arm around Rachel. This was the last thing the poor girl needed, Elena thought with a deep sigh.
"Rachel I don't know how to tell you this but..."
"We're vampires Rachel. Damon and I are vampires."
"What kind of sick joke is this Damon? Is this some sort of silly prank that the jocks set you up to?" Rachel shrugged Elena's arm off her as she stood up in her place.
"I know this may sound crazy and I know you may hate me right now but please her us out." Damon pleaded as he grabbed Rachel's arm.
"You have a few minutes to convince me you three aren't all completely mad." Rachel took a seat on a stool and glanced nervously at Damon and Stefan. She was either trapped with two vampires or two insane people. She had already begun listing off the closest mental institutions for the second option.
"Rachel, Damon and I were turned in 1864 by Katherine Pierce. I know you probably think we're crazy but incredibly fast speed is just one of the abilities we have." Stefan didn't want to confuse the girl even more with the doppelganger drama, so he left it for another time.
"Think about Rachel, have you ever heard of, let alone seen a human as fast as us?"
"Don't vampires drink human blood?" Rachel asked as she fidgeted anxiously in her seat.
"Some feed off animal blood and some drink human blood. "
"Shouldn't you like sparkle in the sun like Edward Cullen?" Stefan glanced at Damon now as the two struggled to hold in their laughter.
"We live in the real world where vampires burn in the sun."
"Wait, how do you walk around in broad daylight then?" Rachel had calmed down now, however she remembered to stay cautious around the two.
"We have rings, which protect us from the sun." Damon stated as he and Stefan motioned to their rings.
"Anymore questions?"
"I'm right for now..." Rachel awkwardly stood from her seat and glanced at three around her.
"You don't need to be afraid of us Rachel, we won't hurt you" Damon said softly.
"I know... Just give me time Damon."
"Well that went fantastically." Damon muttered under his breath, sarcastically.
"Oh please Damon, what do you expect her to do? Come running into your arms so the two of you can runaway at sunset? I mean, when Stefan first told me I felt like running for my life. It's not every day that you run into a vampire." Elena stated as the three of them left the Bar and Grill.
"Elena does have a point Damon; give her some time to wrap her head around some things." Stefan let out a deep sigh as he and Elena both gave Damon sometime to cool down.
Rachel felt like screaming... Damon and Stefan were vampires? She wasn't particularly screaming in fear, more just the added stress to her life. Her parents had once again left another message on the answering machine. Times like this make her regret her existence on this planet. Wow the first time she is interested in a boy besides Finn, the boy turns out to be a vampire. If that's not lucky, she doesn't know what is.
She sighed now as she walked back to the school. The last thing she needs is the school contacting her dads and then having to listen to a 2 hour rant consisting of them acting like they actually care about her. She remembers her dads always saying this to her whilst growing up, "You are a Berry Rachel, we expect you act like one". Thinking about that almost makes her rolls her eyes. She'd lost count of how many times they bring that up in every argument or conversation. Technically she wasn't a Berry anyway. There was still one unknown part of her that she had been aching to find out about. She checked her phone now for the time, she wondered how many classes she'd missed and how many teachers would notice her absence. She'd slowly gotten used to the idea of people hating her, she doesn't blame them... Her own parents neglect her, her mother never wanted anything to do with her as far as she's concerned. It reminds Rachel of the time in school one time, where they had to list all the things they loved and didn't so much love about them.
(Flashback)
"Alright Ladies, in this heart on one side I'd like for you to list the things you like about yourself. Then, on the other side I'd like for you to list the things you don't like so much."
Rachel slowly picked up her pen and watched as the other girls easily listed the things they liked about themselves with maybe a few insecurities. She seemed to be the exact opposite; she jumped straight to the negative side of things and easily listed her insecurities. She thought long and hard and couldn't come up with anything.
"Would anyone like to share what they like about them self? How about you Rachel, don't be afraid. We're all here to support each other." The lady gave Rachel a nod.
"Uh- I haven't got anything on that side." Rachel awkwardly looked up at her teacher whilst the students around her rolled their eyes. They assumed she was just trying to steal the spotlight
(End of Flashback)
She was pulled back to reality when she was shoved harder than she'd ever been shoved before, to the ground. The whole school watched on as shock, it was Lunch time now... Perfect timing she thought grimly. The impact of the fall was making her entire body ache, it didn't stop there though. The attack was far from being over.
"You thought we'd stop, didn't you Berry." The Jocks and Cheerleaders had now made a circle around her and for once, Rachel had no idea what to do.
"She hasn't got her only friends here, to protect her. How much do you pay them to be your friends Manhands?" Quinn Fabray, the head cheerleader asked with a sneer.
During the attack, she had completely zoned out, she had been kicked, punched, slapped and pushed repeatedly against the lockers and the ground. Teachers had stepped out of the classrooms and then returned back to their classrooms to pretend that nothing was going on. It wasn't until Mr Schuester had seen the fight that it had finally stopped. Rachel was covered completely in blood yet she felt no pain. She was drifting in and out of consciousness by the time Elena and the Salvatore brothers had come. The last voice she had heard was Elena's before she drifted cold.
"It's going to get harder before it gets easier but it will get better, you have to make it through the hard stuff first".
