Author's Note: Hey everyone, I apologize for the slow updating but as you know, I recently just went back to school and have been pounded with homework. To add onto that, I've been having some drama with my friends at the moment and my mind has been anywhere but writing. With saying that, I've done a lot of reading in my spare time and I have been thinking about writing a Fallen story. Whether I do a Fallen story all depends on how much time I have on my hands and if I get really good and original ideas. Anyways, after I published Chapter 4, I decided I would get stuck into the next chapter. Thanks for all your support and reviews and favourites/follows. They all make my day and make me smile like a fool.

Chapter 5 of: Broken Hearts and Empty Souls.

"She hasn't got her only friends here, to protect her. How much do you pay them to be your friends Manhands?" Quinn Fabray, the head cheerleader asked with a sneer.

During the attack, she had completely zoned out, she had been kicked, punched, slapped and pushed repeatedly against the lockers and the ground. Teachers had stepped out of the classrooms and then returned back to their classrooms to pretend that nothing was going on. It wasn't until Mr Schuester had seen the fight that it had finally stopped. Rachel was covered completely in blood yet she felt no pain. She was drifting in and out of consciousness by the time Elena and the Salvatore brothers had come. The last voice she had heard was Elena's before she drifted cold.

By the time The Salvatore brothers and Elena had made their way back to the school, the hall remained silent with students standing in a circle. "What's going on?" Elena asked confusedly as she pushed her way through to see what was happening.

"Oh my- Stefan, Damon you need to see this." Elena gasped at the fragile girl lying on the ground in a pool of blood surrounding her. She crouched down onto the ground as she tried to choke back her tears. "Please be alright Rachel. Please." She whispered as she brushed hair out of Rachel's now pale face.

"She needs help and she needs it now." Stefan said as he joined Elena on the ground.

"Why can't you just give her your blood?" Elena whispered, so that only the vampires would be able to hear her.

"I don't want to ruin her life Elena. It's too dangerous. She deserves a normal life, the last thing we want to do is drag her into our mess." Damon replied as he painfully glanced at Rachel's tiny frame on the cold, hallway flooring.

"She needs immediate medical attention before it's too late." Stefan added.

Damon crouched down now and gently picked up Rachel's almost lifeless body. Rachel was the first girl that Damon had ever felt something for, besides Katherine. He glanced angrily at the students surrounding them; no one had said a thing. The Jocks and Cheerleaders, of course, were nowhere to be seen. "Calm down Damon, we can seek revenge once Rachel is well." Elena said as she walked towards the front doors. With the scenes unfolding inside, the ambulance had just pulled in.

"Who will be riding with Miss Berry?" The female paramedic asked kindly as she gently moved Rachel inside the Ambulance.

"I will!" Both Damon and Elena answered in a flash. They glared at each other as a wave of realization struck them.

"Only one person is able to ride with Miss Berry."

"Elena, let Damon ride with her. You and I can drive together and meet at the hospital." Stefan took Elena's hand gently and gave a knowingly look to Damon.

Damon let out a sigh of relief as he climbed into the back of the Ambulance. He glanced back at Stefan and nodded to him before the doors shut. He would never understand why someone as innocent as Rachel would deserve this? Sure, he knew that High School was cruel, but this was taking it past the line. Next time he won't let anyone leave a mark on Rachel, let alone touch her.

"Your girlfriend is very lucky, you know." The paramedic who he had later learnt the name of, stated quietly.

"She's not my girlfriend... Just a friend." Damon simply replied.

"Well in that case, your friend is very luck." Sally grinned at him quickly, before patting his back and returning to check on Rachel's condition.

-2 Hours Later-

"Any word on Rachel?" Elena asked impatiently, she had been walking up and down the halls for the past 2 hours. She was almost positive that the Nurses were close to locking her up in a room of her own.

"No, Elena. Nothing that I know of has changed in the past 2 minutes. Gosh Stefan, can't you restrain her or something? I swear if she walks down that hall one more time..."

"Don't get your panties in a twist Damon." Elena replied before finally giving in and taking a seat on a hard hospital chair next to Stefan.

"I assume you're here for Miss Berry?" A doctor stepped out of a room, clipboard held in a tight grip.

"Yes we are." Elena said.

"Do you know the whereabouts of Miss Berry's parents or relatives?"

"They are away on business trip... We are the only people Rachel has here." Elena continued as they awaited the Doctor's verdict. She had dropped by Rachel's house to pick up some supplies and had heard the voice mail on the answering machine.

The doctor let out a deep sigh as he looked at the pleading faces surrounding him. "Rachel has a broken arm, fractured leg and broken ribs. She was incredibly lucky to only receive those as her worst injuries. She is covered in bruises and received a blow to the head which luckily, left no damage. She will need 2 weeks of rest before returning to school." The doctor finished before walking away, leaving Damon Salvatore who looked as if he was about to burst.

"Don't start Elena, those fools deserve what's coming." Damon dismissed Elena's glances and looked to Stefan for support. "Yes Damon, they ought to be taught a lesson. Just give it a few days, I'm pretty sure the last thing Rachel needs to hear about is you beating up the entire Football team and tearing into the cheerleaders." Stefan replied.

The group approached the Nurse's station with ease. It was either they find out the easy way or they find out by compelling the Nurse into telling them where Rachel's room was. They all had their personal preference.

"When can we see Rachel Berry?" Elena asked the Nurse politely, as she rested her arms carelessly, on the wooden desk.

"Only family members are allowed access to Miss Berry's room. Come back in a couple days. Next please."

"Where is Rachel Berry's room?" Damon stepped forward this time, his eyes locking with the Trainee Nurse's.

"In room 305."

"That will be all for now." Damon tore his eyes away from the Nurse and immediately began his search to find Rachel's room.

"Wow Damon, for someone who is trying to not attract attention, you seem to be doing the complete opposite." Elena mumbled as she almost ran to keep up with Stefan and Damon.

By the time the three were outside Rachel's hospital room, they stopped, they weren't sure what to expect. Elena inched forward first, placing her hand on the knob and twisting she gently opened the door. The all stopped dead in their tracks, there in front of them was an almost lifeless Rachel Berry.

She looked so much smaller under all the wires and I.V.s. Getting closer to Rachel, Elena let out a sob as she saw Rachel's once delicate face now covered with bumps and bruises and her eye swollen shut. She rushed to Rachel's side immediately grabbing her hand. Stefan moved to stand by her. No one dared speak a word or take their eyes off of Rachel in fear of losing her. In doing so Elena and Stefan failed to notice that Damon had yet to leave from by the door and the tears streaming down his face.
