Jedediah POV

Chapter 30: The damaged statue

2 years later

I came back to live and immediately I looked at the other side of the world. There was no glass, the gate was open. We don't understand what's going on, but lately the gates are often open. Once or twice in the week there is a new night guard, but none of them succeed in keeping order in the museum. Well, everything is better than Cecil, Reginald and Gus, because they are gone when a new guy is here. And also this night the gate was open, but this time the cowboys were prepared.

"Come on Jedediah, let's go," William said suddenly behind me and he gave me a little push towards the ropes. I nodded one time and decided I shouldn't hesitate now. Lately the cowboys and the Romans were fighting a lot, since the gates are open so often. And this was just a perfect opportunity for us.

"Let's go," I said resolute and all my boys followed me. We all took a rope, which we had fastened to the ceiling weeks ago. With a little spurt and a good swung you landed perfectly in the Roman Empire. William landed besides me, he ran away with a big group behind him, ready to attack the Romans.

The few Roman soldiers who tried to stop us were easy to put down. They just woke up and they never expected such an attack. I just hit another Roman, a woman this time, who just stood in my way. And then I suddenly heard a familiar voice calling my name. I looked at the spot where the voice came from and I looked straight at Octavius.

"Octavius," I said back, even though I knew Octavius would never hear me. We were to far away from each other and the sounds of the battle were too loud.

"Jedediah, please stop!" Octavius shouted to me. I turned my head away from him and continued fighting. "Jedediah!" I heard Octavius shouting one last time. I turned around and saw how Octavius got put down to the ground. Again I turned my back to Octavius and ran towards the Roman temple.

I saw how William and his group destroyed all the statues of the Roman gods. A life-sized statue got pulled down with some ropes and felt on the ground before my feet. And then my eyes fell on the biggest statue which stood in the middle of the temple. It didn't take long before I realised to who the statue was related to.

"William, hold on," I said hesitating.

"No way, this statue is going down too," William said and hit it with a large stick.

"William stop," I said a little bit more confident.

"Help me to destroy this thing," William said to the other boys and hit the statue again. The others boys surrounded the statue and were ready to break it down. One boy even swung a rope around one of the statue's arms. I had to do something.

"STOP IT! NOW!" I yelled through the entire temple and I grabbed William's stick before he could hit it again. "Show a little bit of honour and fight against men instead of statues." William and all the others boys looked surprised at me.

"Jedediah, just get yourself a weapon and help us with this statue," William said, who probably thought I was just joking.

"Get out," I said strict and let go of William's stick.

"But..."

"GET OUT!" I yelled again. First just a few boys put down their weapons, but then others quickly followed and they walked out of the temple. William was the last one who walked out. I was all alone in the temple, but I didn't dare to look up when I let my hand rest on the damaged statue.

"I'm sorry," I said to it. "Please, take good care of your son." I turned around and wanted to walk out, but then I saw Jacob standing at the exit. He said nothing. He just looked at me without any emotions at all, but I knew exactly how he felt. I felt the same way.

"Come on, Jacob," I said to the boy and I laid my hand on his shoulder. For a moment he just looked at me, but then a smile appeared on his face again.

"You still care about the Romans," he said to me. "Everything will be alright one day."

I know I can lie about this, but deep inside I just know I still have a bond with Octavius. Why would I crawl through the secret tunnel to see how they managed it in Rome the same night if I didn't care? Maybe it is just because I'm sentimental. I mean, I never liked battles and fighting. To invade a city and destroy it entirely is definitely not something I would be proud of. I'm not really a fighter. More like a sentimental pioneer, who is forced to take up the weapons sometimes. But maybe it was even harder to fight against the Romans this time.

From a distance I saw how people cared for some injured soldiers and how people tried to construct damaged buildings. Of course, we are miniatures and we can't really die, because we are not even alive. But some of those Romans wouldn't wake up for the rest of the night. And for a second I started to wonder where Octavius would be. I could see Agrippa, but I hadn't seen Octavius yet. But I saw how Octavius got put down during the battle.

"I can't believe you still dare to show your face here."

I was relieved and at the same time shocked to see Octavius here again after those twelve long years.

Chapter 30 is finished.

Damn it, why do they have to fight so much. I mean, come on... =s

And by the way, I was the guest on March 29 who said this is not going to be a slash. I'm really sorry if I disappoint someone right now, but I definitely don't ship Jedie and Ockie, so I will not write about them as a lovey-dovey couple. They are just friends in my opinion, so I only write about them as friends (or enemies), but definitely nothing more. I really hope everybody can still enjoy this story. Thank you for reading this.
