Jedediah POV

Chapter 36: The all saying word

I blinked with my eyes a few times and I wasn't sure about what just happened. I remembered Octavius and I were in the van and we crashed against a white mountain of snow. I looked around and noticed there was nothing left of the van and Octavius was nowhere to be found.

"Octavius," I said softly with a shaking voice. I pulled myself out from underneath the wreckage and coughed a few times.

"Octavius," I said a little harder and I looked around me. The only things a saw were the chunk pieces of the van and snow. "Octavius, where are you? Octavius!" I yelled as hard as I could and I hoped to get a respond.

"Jedediah?" I heard Octavius say behind me. I could see some chunk pieces move and I ran towards it.

"Octavius, finally," I said relieved when I saw him, laying in the snow. Maybe I was more relieved than I should've been.

"Jedediah, I'm stuck," Octavius suddenly said and pointed at his left leg, which indeed lay underneath a lot of debris.

"What do you mean, you're stuck?" I said almost annoyed. "Just pull your leg out of it."

"That doesn't work, it's too heavy," Octavius replied. "I can't even move my leg." I saw how Octavius tried to pull is leg from underneath the debris, but it indeed didn't work.

I decided I should help him and I pushed against the wreckage which lay on his leg. But it still didn't moved. I tried it one more time and again without any results. "For crying out loud," I mumbled softly.

"Maybe we should try at the same time," Octavius suggested.

"Alright then, Ockie," I said and I braced myself. "On three I push against the debris and you pull your leg out of it. One... Two... Three!" I pushed and Octavius was also fighting hard and this time the debris moved a little. "Try again," I said encouraging. "One... Two... Thr..."

Suddenly I felt an energy flowing through my entire body and for a moment I forget where I was and what I did. It was like someone used a spell on me and took control over me. A spell which told me I should return to the museum immediately.

"Go," Octavius said suddenly. I remembered again what was going on and where I was. I turned around to look at Octavius again. "I know you got the same feeling as me," Octavius continued. "They call us to go back. Go."

"What about you?" I asked, while I knew the answer already.

"It's almost dawn," Octavius said. "I will not be here for long. Congratulations, you won the war. But please, take good care of my people."

I just stared at him for a few seconds. I could feel a lump in my throat and the tears coming near. I could leave now and I would win the war. But if I did, I would also lose Octavius. I shook my head resolute and pushed with a new form of energy against the debris.

"Jedediah, what are you doing?" Octavius asked beneath me.

"Nobody will believe me when I tell them you surrendered to me," I said angry. "So you're coming with me, so you can tell them yourself."

"Jedie stop," Octavius said, but I didn't want to hear him.

"I won't leave you behind," I yelled back. "I definitely won't leave you here behind." Octavius and I looked at each other and I never saw him so surprised before. But after that he nodded resolute.

"On the count of three then," he said, still a little hesitated it seemed. I nodded and this time we counted together.

"One... Two... Three!" I pushed against the debris with all the strength I had inside. It moved a little bit again.

"One... Two... Three!" We counted together again and this time a part of Octavius's leg came from underneath the debris.

"Come on, Ockie," I yelled again. "Just one last time."

"One... Two... Three!" His leg appeared and only his foot was still underneath the debris. Octavius pulled his foot out and finally he was entirely free. I walked towards him and helped him up.

"Can you walk?" I asked him.

"I'm okay, Jedediah," Octavius said when he stood and saw my worried face. "I mean Jedie. I'm sorry, I will get used to it." "Let's go back," I said and I actually didn't care how Octavius would call me. I started walking and Octavius walked beside me.

"Why did you do that?" Octavius asked after we walked for a while. I only shrugged and kept on walking. "I would've been gone and I would never stay in your way anymore. You would've been redeemed of me."

"I can imagine Romans think that way, but I don't," I said almost angry. "Would you've left me behind then?"

"No, it would be very boring here without you," Octavius said and actually that wasn't a respond I expected. "Even though you get on my nerves very often."

"Alright, I'm really sorry I attacked your city," I said and stopped walking to look at him.

"We're in war," Octavius said who stood beside me. "Attacking each other is a part of war."

"You called my name and I just ignored you."

"You didn't even need to respond. The alliance and the sign should only be used when the giants are nearby and those weren't there."

Suddenly I got the feeling we had this talk before and the amazed look on Octavius showed he probably felt the same way.

"Anyway," Octavius said as we continued walking. "I wouldn't leave you behind either. That's for sure"

"The whole alliance was so wrong," I mumbled looking down. "It didn't force us to work together, it forced us to fight a war."

"And we were both too stubborn and too proud to admit it," Octavius sighed.

"Fighting for something that doesn't exists anymore..."

"Trying to prove something, when you're not even sure what you want to prove..."

"Well Octavius... I trusted you for so many years. And I still trust you."

"And Jedediah... You showed me I wasn't alone and lead me to the right path. And I would still follow you."

We stopped again and looked at each other. I knew we have always been friends for years, but it was still hard to admit it. "

All those years...," I said softly.

"During all those fights..."

"We were actually..."

"We honestly really were..."

"Kinda..."

"Sort of..."

"Friends."

I will always say Octavius was the first one who said that all saying word out loud, while he will state I was a little faster.

"So...," Octavius said smiling.

"Now we're friends," I said and actually it didn't sound that weird.

"It appears so," Octavius replied still smiling. We continued walking till we finally reached the stairs and we could see Gigantor, the Horseman and another little man staying on the highest step. I sighed annoyed and looked sadly above.

"What it is?" Octavius asked me.

"We came so far to see it was all for nothing. How could I ever forget those stupid stairs?" I said desperate and Octavius looked surprised at me. "Last time I tried everything to get up, but it just didn't work. And Gigantor and all the others will never hear us from here. For crying out loud!"

"Yes, but last time you didn't have a friend who is willing to help you by your side," Octavius said and smiled again.

And for the first time I smiled back.
