Chapter One- "I know that it is not your fault."
The city of Mitakihara was busy and eventful, the stray lights of the buildings shone down on the city. However its captivating first impression of a peaceful city was a lie in itself.
The moon glistened on the townspeople, the falsehood of harmony was capturing its victim's thoughts, and wonders of the city itself were far beyond the concept of 'conflict' and 'struggle'. The sun rose with great suffering, but for now, the sky still remains its midnight black.
The tall radio tower overlooked the courtyard, its massive figure casting its shadow over the empty grounds, three figures stood on the tip of the tower, one after the other, signifying supremacy in this land of grief and hatred.
These three figures were girls. One blonde hair with curly pigtails, she wore a brown hat with a tuft of white hanging off the top, and she wore a gold flower clip with an orange gem attached to it. She wore a dress, the top was long sleeved and white, with a yellow ribbon attaching the front, with a yellow zip coming down, and the middle of the dress was brown and was held tight around her hourglass figure, the bottom of the dress was a yellow skirt with a brown trim. She wore long black socks and black and yellow boots with it; this girl held a musket, her form was signalling leadership and experience.
The other was sitting on the edge, she had long red hair held up in a high ponytail with a black ribbon, this girl had a red dress, but it was a lot longer, it was parted at the front of her hips and flowing at the back, under the dress she wore a pinkish skirt, her dress was sleeveless, and apart from her dress she wore grey sleeves with thick black sleeve cuffs. There was an oval shape around the chest part of her dress, and there was a gold oval frame, and it that frame was a shining red gem inside it. She wore long red boots and was holding a long spear; she had a piece of pocky hanging in the corner of her mouth.
The final girl was standing sturdily at the front of the building, this girl had long and straight black hair that waved around in the breeze, she wore a pink ribbon, this girl had a plain white and long sleeved dress with a purple skirt under it; she had a ribbon at the front and the back of her dress, and had a layer of purple cloth over her chest. Over her legs she had black stockings that had a pattern of purple diamonds at the side, these also doubled as boots. On her hand was a black diamond shaped frame, and in that was a glimmering purple gem, this girl held an ebony bow and arrow.
These girls were magical girls, former humans that lived a life of happiness and tranquillity, before a moment of misery racked their lives, and they made a wish with the help of the Incubator. But once their ultimate despair got a hold of them, they were turned into their own enemies. But now that one girl had changed that, they died and finally found salvation. Or so they thought…
The dark haired girl ran a hand through her hair, spying on the desolate grounds, searching for their newfound enemies, not showing a hint of frustration when she found nothing.
The redhead sighed. "Hey Homura," She nagged. "You said there was something today, you aren't lying, are you?"
The blonde sighed. "I think that Akemi-san is not the type of person to joke about fighting wraiths, it is our duty after all, Sakura-san."
Homura frowned, scanning the space with her dark purple eyes, which widened once she spotted something. It wavered in the shadows as it formed in air, its body arched up and cloaked, its face was pixelated. She narrowed her eyes. "Here they are." She stated.
Mami and Kyoko took a glance over the tower, and immediately readied their weapons. "I guess she was right." The redhead inhaled. "Fine, let's go."
And with that, all three of them stepped off the high tower.
The rushing air dashed past the girls, the blurry scenery caught their eye as the adrenaline ran through their veins, and they hit the ground expectedly, holding onto their weapons tight.
The girls kept their ground as the large cloaked figures made their way towards them, in seconds more appeared, their faces blank and pixelated.
Mami waved a ribbon in front of her, as it formed into a musket; she aimed it and closed her eye. The bullets rung out continuously, as wraiths disappeared before her.
Kyoko willed her spear to break apart, she leapt forward and slashed the wraiths apart, while still keeping her balance, the sharpness of her spear cut through the demons with ease, as she flipped over, forming the spear back to one, and plunged it into the wraith below her.
Homura held her ebony bow up, pulling back the string as a purple light flew from its top. A dazzling arrow formed the dark girl's hand, as she placed it in line with the string, she aimed, and let go of the string, as the lit arrow tore its way through the wraiths.
Soon enough, they were all gone, smoke bellowed out of the place where the wraiths had just been extinguished, and the three veteran magical girls stood in the light of the moon.
Homura walked over and picked the grief seeds up, and immediately threw them to Kyoko and Mami from behind, who changed back to their ordinary clothes and cleansed their Soul Gems, as the darkness in them filtered away.
Kyoko tossed the used grief seeds to Homura, who caught and crushed them with her fist, a new skill she had learned over the time the three had been working together.
"I suggest that next time we look for a bigger number, that way we can cleanse our gems faster." The dark haired girl clarified, darting a look at her soul gem.
"You're the one who got us out here in the first place Homura." Kyoko retorted. "You don't have a right to talk."
"I disagree." Mami stated. "I think that if we go to the wraiths faster, more lives will be saved."
"Come on Mami," The redhead started. "You know that demons can't fight back."
"Let's not argue." Homura interrupted. "Now," She turned, "I'll see you two tomorrow, at school." And she leapt off, jumping from the ground and from the building.
The wind raced through the stoic girl's hair, the pink ribbon fluttering along peacefully as she reached her apartment. I can't understand this world, but I'll protect it. She thought, glancing up at the full white moon leading her way.
The morning light shone through the blinds of a specific senior's apartment, on a couch lay a dishevelled Kyoko, her hair messy and spread out all over the couch, dribble fell from her mouth, and she winced when the light hit her in the face.
Mami walked into the kitchen and spotted Kyoko. Sighing, she walked over and shook her. "Sakura-san. Wake up." She whispered. The redhead groaned softly, subconsciously telling Mami to 'go away I'm sleeping'.
The blonde shook Kyoko harder. "Sakura-san, it's time for school." Her voice rose. "Come on, wake up."
Kyoko was unresponsive, so Mami had an idea; she leaned closer and whispered into the redhead's ear. "I've got food."
Immediately, Kyoko jumped up and sped towards the kitchen, leaving Mami on the floor and rubbing her sore and pounding head. "Ok, I shouldn't do that anymore." She laughed to herself, before raising her hand to her mouth.
"Sakura-san! Clothes first!" She heard an annoyed moan from the kitchen and giggled.
Kyoko walked back into the living room, back arched in defeat. "Why does school exist?" She asked tiredly.
"It's called a productive future." Mami replied, fixing up her blonde drills. "Anyway, school starts in thirty minutes so get ready."
The redhead suddenly gasped in shock. "What time is it…? Eight O' Clock?!"
"Yes." The blonde confirmed
"You mean school starts at half past eight?!" Kyoko exclaimed, and Mami blocked her ears from the yelling while nodding.
Calming down, the redhead pulled the school uniform out of the draw and stared at it, before staring at the blonde. "This outfit is…"
"I'll leave." Mami said instantly, walking out of the room as Kyoko gaped before scowling. "Fine, I can't believe that you've made me do this."
Homura walked into the futuristic classroom, scanning around its less than normal setup, she walked over to her desk, which folded out before her.
She set herself down and smoothed her hair, ready again for the clamouring of students surrounding her. And soon enough, they did, asking constant questions.
Soon enough, Homura ignored them and they left, unimpressed with the lack of attention. She spotted somebody sitting on a desk near to her at the corner of her eye. Her green hair that waved over the back of her school uniform, her figure slumped over the desk; her eyes had a distant and faraway look to them.
Homura decided to walk over to her, her long raven hair waving across the air as she moved. Smoothing down her skirt, she sat on the table next to Hitomi, deliberately making a noise that caught the emerald girl's attention, as she glanced up at Homura. "Akemi-san, good morning."
The dark haired girl frowned. "What's wrong Shizuki-san?" The asked, concern hidden in her tone.
Hitomi pulled a confused expression. "Why do you think I'm upset?"
"I can tell." Homura replied, letting a faint smile grace her lips. "Would you mind telling me?" She already knew what was wrong, but she decided to ask anyway, for comforting matters.
"I…" Hitomi trailed off, as tears specked the corners of her emerald green eyes, she lowered her head. "Sayaka-san has died." She spoke bitterly, letting her cheeks pale.
Noticing her sadness, Homura placed a hand on her shoulder. "I understand, it must have been a hard loss."
Surprised, the green haired girl glanced up again. "Did you see her die?" She questioned.
Homura knew that she couldn't say 'yes, hundreds of time', so instead she said; "No, but I'm sure that-."
"It's my fault." Homura was cut off by Hitomi, who spoke tearfully. "It's my fault she died." Her shoulders shook as sobs racked her figure.
"What makes you think it's your fault?" The dark haired girl asked, worry etched into her tone.
"I'm g-going out with K-Kamijou-kun." She stammered, hands trembling against her knees. "I'm sure that she committed suicide because of me." Tears fell down her cheeks quickly as she wept.
Homura looked worried, and ran her hand down her back, in a form of comforting. "It's not your fault."
Hitomi looked up at her, fresh tear tracks down her flushed face. "How do you know, Akemi-san?"
"I just know…. That it's not your fault."
Emerald green eyes widened and the tears disappeared. She sniffed before smiling. "Thank you."
The courtyard of the school was bright in the middle of the day. The bright green trees cast shadows against the students sitting on benches. The school was busy, filled with students getting their lunches and sitting down, with either their lovers or as a group of friends.
Mami and Kyoko however, sat on the roof, the white fence cast around the area surrounded it, looking like a jail that someone could escape from.
The redhead stared at her packed lunch in disbelief.
Mami glanced at her. "Are you going to eat that Sakura-san, I'd hate for it to get cold."
"You… you got me Taiyaki.." Kyoko stammered, gazing at the food, sparkles in her eyes. "Why?"
The blonde smiled brightly. "I felt like being nice today." The redhead responded to that statement by beaming. "Thanks Mami!" And she stuffed into it.
She's the same age as me, Mami thought, But she's still such a child.
In the corner of her eye she spotted a dark haired girl walking towards them, and turned her head. "Akemi-san! Sit down."
Homura smiled faintly, "Tomoe-san, I didn't know that you and Kyoko ate lunch out here."
"Do you?" Mami asked and the dark haired girl shook her head. "I just wanted to come out here for today."
The blonde grinned. "What have you been doing in class today?"
"I have had a conversation with Shizuki Hitomi."
"That's nice, what about?"
"She seemed upset over the recent death of Miki Sayaka-."
Kyoko visibly flinched, before lowering her head and holding her cutlery tight. Her face was cast over by the shadow of the light shining.
Mami frowned at Homura. We weren't supposed to mention that in front of her Akemi-san. She said telepathically to Homura, who shrugged. She's strong enough to have gotten over it by now. She replied.
"Hey, Homura." Kyoko alerted, immediately changing her behaviour. "Do you have something in your pockets?"
Homura remembered, and her hands felt inside her pockets, before pulling out around ten grief seeds. "There."
Mami narrowed her eyes. "Why did you keep these?"
"I kept them for use in the future. I have my own grief seeds, so you should have your own. I can't have you dying on me."
Kyoko snorted. "You know very well that I have a stack of grief seeds from-." Chills were sent down her spine when she earned a glare from Mami. "Never mind."
Homura split the grief seeds in half, and gave them to her comrades. "Here, they're yours."
"What if you need them?" Mami asked.
"Were you listening to what I just said? I have enough of my own."
Hesitantly, the two took them. "You know," Kyoko started. "If I actually take these, then I'll lose my pride as a magical girl."
"Then you've already lost your pride." Homura said coldly, before smiling slightly.
She didn't know when she'd smile for real, for real happiness.
It'd have to be a good reason, to get her to smile truthfully again.
AUTHORS NOTE:
Okay, so there's the first chapter, I can't really say anything since I made this up on the spot. And if you're thinking that fight scene was bad, just think that FIGHT SCENES ARE HARD TO WRITE. I'm pretty sure I'll work on it.
And if anyone wants to know who my favourite character is in PMMM, it would have to be Kyoko, because I fell for her soft side. I'm planning to put some KyoSaya and HomuMado in in the future.
See you in the next chapter!
