A/N: Today I realised that this fanfiction had had over 4000 views! *squeals*

On a different note, in case you're wondering why I keep on referring to Homura's features as 'ice' or 'cold' it's because I kind of think of Homura in two ways. Ice and Water. Before she started trying to save Madoka; she was water, wavy and insecure, but the surface is strong. And when her emotions got the better of her and she turned stoic, I take her to be ice. The water part of her has frozen up, it is impenetrable and ice is very cold, hence her personality now. But with ice are glaciers, glaciers are rivers that have been frozen but water still flows inside it.

So basically I take Homura as a glacier.

Does that make sense?

DISCLAIMER: (I think it's the first time I've done this) I don't own Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Its correct owners are Shaft, Gen Orobuchi (the devil) and Akiyuki Shinbo. If I did own PMMM I would make Kyoko and Sayaka marry, Homura and Madoka never having to leave each other, and make Mami never alone again. Also make Kyubey die for life.

Chapter Thirteen – "You are just as senseless."

The room was silent. The very air around the two students was tense.

Homura found herself clutching the sheets. "What… do you mean?"

Hitomi suddenly looked nervous, as if the question sounded impulsive. "Um… I'm sorry. It must have sounded crazy."

The bead of sweat dripping down the dark haired girl's brow vanished. She breathed deeply and her body relaxed, as her composure came back in full swing. "It didn't. I was just a little surprised, that's all."

Hitomi calmed. "I'm glad." She paused. "So can you answer my question Akemi-san?"

Homura remembered. "I have a piece of advice to give you."

The emerald eyed girl's mouth turned into a small 'o' shape in surprise. "What is it?"

Homura crossed her hands over her lap, her emotionless expression staring into Hitomi's. "I would not make a wish. Wishes are burdens. If they are granted, then they eventually backfire on you. The wish you make will not make what you really desire. Your eventual despair will be so great that it will overcome you and you will lose your will to live. Is that clear?"

Hitomi stared at the stoic girl across from her. "But I thought that wishes…. Were great things."

Homura suddenly felt pity. Of course, I can't understand what she feels right now. She feels crushed because she has been cursed with the information that wishes are burdens.

The dark haired girl's eyes clouded over, she sat up from the bed, swaying slightly. Hitomi glanced up at her. "Akemi-san?"

Homura didn't react, her expression was like stone, but Hitomi could only see her back as she strode out the office, leaving Hitomi astonished.

The emerald haired girl's heart dropped like a rock, her hands clenched tight as she felt a part of her wavy hair fall down her shoulder.

"She's wrong." Hitomi muttered to herself. "Akemi-san is incorrect."

"Wishes are wonderful things."

Kyoko's fingers ran over the ring on her finger, and she started to twist it excessively, she also started to fidget with the black ribbon in her hair.

"Sakura-san."

Kyoko inwardly winced at the name. I thought I told her not to call me by my surname anymore… The redhead finally glanced up from her lap; Mami was staring at her with a frown so intense it nearly bet Homura's.

Nearly.

"Mami." Kyoko replied simply.

The blonde sighed. "Okay, do you want me to head straight to the point?"

Kyoko nodded instantly. Wait a sec. She realised. Why am I so nervous all of a sudden? She punched herself inwardly. I'm better than this.

The redhead pulled out her box of pocky and immediately stuffed a piece in her mouth like it was a cigarette. She beared a glistening fang at Mami, who looked like she was scowling.

"Sakura-san, stop that."

"Shut up." Kyoko snapped. "Quit calling me that."

"What?"

"Sakura-san. Didn't I tell you to call me by my first name?"

"That was my choice." She paused. "Now stop acting rebel."

Kyoko scowled. "I'm not acting, this is how I am."

"A dirty homeless person that really has inner emotional turmoil?"

"One: I'm not homeless."

"You will be unless you explain what happened with you and Akemi-san last night."

Kyoko nearly choked on her pocky. Before her face went a deep red. "You make it sound inappropriate."

Mami rolled her eyes. "Don't be so immature." She retorted. "Now what happened?"

The redhead snorted. "What if I don't wanna tell ya?" Suddenly seeing Mami's glaring and narrow eyes made her immediately change her mind. "Okay fine, I picked a fight with her."

"Why?"

"Don't interrupt; I'll explain it from the start."

Mami leaned back on her chair. "Fine."

"Well..." Kyoko started. "I saw Homura in the forest on the outskirts of Mitakihara, and she was muttering something; and her eyes were weird as well. She also held that same ribbon that she wears all the time. And…" She paused. "It looked like she was experiencing a bad memory, she looked like she was about to cry. Then she changed back to normal in an instant, which confused me."

"So you came and picked a fight with her?" Mami accused, nearly completely missing the point of Kyoko's explanation.

"Yes, but it's only because I was angry 'cause she is keeping too many secrets."

"You could have talked to her about it."

"She would have just refused my questions."

"So you decided to try and beat the answers out of her?"

Kyoko nodded. Mami sighed. "Think about it next time before you act, okay?"

The redhead glowered and slammed her fists onto the table of the flat; her crimson eyes held now full on frustration. "That still doesn't explain why the hell you tried to choke me!"

Mami suddenly remembered, after the fight. Her eyes laid over the red marks over Kyoko's neck.

Ma..mi..

Tomoe-san! What are you doing?!

No…

Tomoe-san!

The image of Kyoko's dilated cerise eyes flashed through her mind, her hand clutched her chest, but her expression remained the same.

"Oh. That."

Kyoko's face turned into pure rage. "You can say it so calmly?! You tried to kill me!"

"It's not alright!" Mami yelled, silencing Kyoko. "My emotions came before my mind then okay?!" Her tone softened. "I was full of wrath because of how foolish you had been, and I guess… I wasn't thinking."

The redhead was speechless. Before the look in her eyes relaxed and she clasped her hands together, removing her feet from the table. Then said softly. "I'm sorry, and I forgive you."

Mami looked up, her yellow eyes glistened. "Really?"

"Kyoko nodded."

The blonde smiled warmly. "I forgive you as well. Thanks."

Kyoko immediately blushed in embarrassment. "It's fine." She said sturdily. "I mean," she muttered. "I do think of you as family and all…" The redhead trailed off.

"Pardon?"

Kyoko shook her head. "Nothing, never mind."

Mami beamed. "Well, I'm glad this is all sorted out, Kyoko."

A cloak flapped in the air.

Light steps leapt a figure through buildings; a sound was made every time the figure jumped.

Meanwhile on the ground, a familiar white alien like creature scampered through the alleyways like a rat, dodging the persons' attacks.

The silhouette paused at a radio tower. The cloak lowered to the figure's back. The shining white moon revealed the face of the person. A pale face hidden under a hood, one eye red and one eye blue.

The creature stopped running at the corner, and stared up at the man while waving its tail.

"Reaper, you get absolutely nothing out of chasing me." Kyubey's cheerful voice stated. "So why?"

The Reaper scowled and stepped off the tower. After a few seconds he hit the ground elegantly, his cloak flowing behind him as he walked over to the Incubator. "I was just letting out my anger."

"Because things aren't going your way?"

"No." The Reaper said icily. "You know my plans, so why are you trying to make my situation worse?"

"By trying to make Shizuki Hitomi a Magical Girl?" Kyubey replied, emotionless etched into its tone. Unknowing of that the words it had just said had caused an impact.

Reaper nodded. "It is a bother. I understand why, but to get a single girl to make a wish but then for it to backfire on her is just…"

"Wrong?" The Incubator questioned. "You don't understand, Reaper, what us Incubators are doing is for the good of humanity."

"I understand clearly, did you think that I would come to this planet without knowing everything about Magical Girls and the Incubators?"

"That wasn't what I was getting at. It seems that you, an entity with power to nearly overrule God, who has said to have no emotions, have emotions."

The Reaper's dissimilar coloured eyes widened slightly. "That's not true."

"It is. You said that you were born not human. I know for a fact that we Incubators are the only creatures without the mental disorder called 'emotion'."

"Gods do not have emotions."

"Apparently, God's love for humans made him create this universe in the first place. This world wouldn't exist without emotion. So therefore, you are just as senseless as the rest of them."

The Reaper was thunderstruck, her expression in a state of disbelief. Before he could retort, he was interrupted.

"See that emotion? Anguish." Kyubey interrupted. "It's crazy, humans possess this emotion once they undercover some sort of truth that hurts them." It paused. "It's irregular for Incubators, but you humans make it seem like its natural."

Shaken by Kyubey's words, The Reaper felt his knees wobble. He pulled in a deep breath and smirked. "I see, so you've uncovered it." He held out a pale hand from his cloak and a glass staff formed in it.

"Now, tell me the plan, with Shizuki Hitomi."

The tinkle of the music box interrupted Hitomi from her daze, her bright green eyes trailed over the full moon in the sky.

Her slightly shaking hands laid over her silk nightgown; she reached for the window, unclipped it and pulled it up. The cold winter air sent chills down her spine.

Hitomi wove the hairbrush through her thin and wavy green hair; she felt it settle on her shoulders, the ballet music box was in time with her brushes. Hitomi glanced at it and blushed, remembering that the gift was from her boyfriend, Kamijou Kyousuke.

"Kamijou-kun…" She whispered, the pinkness in her cheeks fading away as she stared at the moon.

"Sayaka-san..."

Hitomi jumped at the name that had unexpectedly come from her mouth. She found herself cupping her mouth as if she had just sworn. After a few seconds, her surprise lessened and she lowered her head. "Sayaka-san." She repeated.

A moment of silence passed, and her hands scrunched up the hem of her nightgown.

"Shizuki Hitomi."

Hitomi gasped at the cheerful voice that appeared in her mind. She slowly lifted her head to see a white cat-like creature with long ears and an embedded smile staring at her.

"Oh, Kyubey." Hitomi said politely, she gestured it in. Kyubey jumped down from the windowsill and onto the desk. "What brings you here?" She asked.

"I need you to come with me."

"Why?"

"Please, it's important."

Hitomi was reluctant for a few seconds until she gave in. "Alright."

Kyubey lead Hitomi to a dark alleyway, the lights from the streets made the alleyway look haunting and ominous.

The green haired girl shuddered. Why would he want to bring me here?

The sounds of her shoes echoed across the alleyway, creating an effect of someone else walking to them, as many shadows were being cast around the two.

Hitomi held her hands to her chest as Kyubey gestured with a white paw for her to stop walking. "Shizuki Hitomi."

"Y-Yes?" She stammered, wondering why she had been lead out here.

"Have you decided on your wish?"

Hitomi felt a sudden weight collapse into her mind. Yes, the contract, magical girls, the wraiths… With many things on her mind, Hitomi became silent, but Kyubey kept on staring.

Hitomi glanced at him, sudden fear in her bright eyes.

Mami and Kyoko leapt through the city, the felt a threatening aura as Homura flew along beside the two.

Kyoko swatted her hair out of her face, the frills on her red dress billowed out beside her. "Are you sure you felt something Homura?" She asked the stoic girl, who grumbled a 'yes'.

Mami seemed to notice the tension between the two and shrugged. They'll get over it soon.

"They seem to always be in the courtyard." Homura stated once the three got to the radio tower.

"No shit Sherlock." Kyoko muttered under her breath, earning a glare from the dark haired girl.

"How many can you see Akemi-san?" Mami asked.

Homura narrowed her eyes and scanned the courtyard. "I can't see anything so far."

"Then why the hell are we here?!"

"Be quiet." Homura stated bluntly, and so calmly that it put an end to Kyoko's outburst. "I can hear something."

Mami peeked over the tower, and spotted a wraith in a cloak hovering slowly across the grounds.

Instead of her usual outburst at there being only one wraith there, Kyoko peeked over as well.

The three notice that out of nowhere two wraiths materialised at the main wraith's side in an instant.

"Since when can Wraiths form other wraiths from them?" Mami said suspiciously.

Then five more wraiths formed.

Then another ten.

Then fifty.

Homura frowned.

Then a hundred.

Then a thousand.

Kyoko gaped. "You've gotta be kidding! 1000 wraiths?!"

Homura found herself smirking at the redhead. "I thought that you would be excited for this type of competition, Kyoko."

The redhead immediately shut her mouth. "It's just… surprising. That's all."

Mami narrowed her eyes as another few hundred of wraiths formed. She stood up, took the ribbon of her shirt and in an instant a musket had been formed. "It looks like we're going to be tired tomorrow."

Homura nodded and formed a bow. "I think so as well."

Kyoko spun her spear, before grinning at her enemies. "This is my lucky day!"

And with that, the three jumped off the tower.

Homura hit the ground immediately, her wings disappeared. Her ebony bow was caught with a dazzling violet light as she formed an arrow and pulled back the string. When firing, the flaming arrow went through a whole line of wraiths at once.

Mami swung her yellow ribbons at the wraiths, guns formed on impact and smoke bellowed everywhere. She curtsied as muskets fell from her skirt, and then she flung her brown hat up and caught the guns that formed out of them.

The sound of bullets rung through the air as golden flickers of light danced through the sky, Mami spun her muskets, shooting at the wraiths.

Kyoko spun her spear, slashing a number of wraiths in half. She leapt up and flipped over the wraiths. But while in mid-air, she noticed thick blades forming from the wraith's arms. Kyoko's red eyed widened. "Shit!"

Homura and Mami noticed this as well.

"Where did they get them?!" Homura yelled above the sound of bullets, as she formed a gun and starting firing at the wraiths.

Mami flung and ribbon around a number of wraiths, and like a lasso, pulled them together. However one wraith cut the yellow ribbon. And the wraiths leapt as Mami, who yelped.

"Mami!" Kyoko broke her spear into multiple parts and swung it at the demons; she leapt into the air and put her spear back together. When she hit the ground, she immediately raced towards Mami.

Suddenly pain resonated in Kyoko's head and she cried, dropping her spear and falling to her knees.

"Kyoko?!" Homura exclaimed in distress as she watched her companion fall to the ground, clutching her head. "What's wrong?!" And then she realised.

During the fight I shot Kyoko through the skull. Homura scowled. How the hell has that not healed yet?

Suddenly she heard the scream of Mami, whose was lying on the ground, defenceless and weak, wraiths were constantly slashing at her with their blades, blood was splattered all across her body and her clothes were ripped.

"Tomoe-san!"

Suddenly her vision switched back to Kyoko, who was struggling to stand up, did not notice the tens of wraiths.

"KYO-!"

The redhead's pained scream interrupted her, a blade had gone straight through her shoulder, and one through the middle of her head, crimson liquid dripped down her face. Until the screams died down and Homura knew that she was unconscious.

Homura then realised that her two comrades were lying in pools of their own blood.

She leapt up into the air, firing an arrow up into the sky, in a few seconds arrows were raining down, billowing onto the waiting demons, whose distorted screams could be heard from miles away.

When silence finally came and everything was gone, Homura sighed in relief.

SLASH!

Immense pain shot up Homura's whole body, her frame became rigid and she couldn't move. Blood dripped from her mouth and onto the pavement below her.

Homura moved her view, and her eyes widened when she saw the tip of a blade struck through her chest.

The pain came back instantly, so much throbbing pain, her head pounded, and she found herself screaming in agony when the blade was pulled out of her chest, her numb body hit the ground limply.

Through her blotted vision, Homura could see an army of newly formed Wraiths coming towards her and her companions.

Tomoe-san…

Kyoko…

Struggling, Homura lifted herself up on one elbow, ignoring the scorching pain nestled in her chest; she crawled over to her two unconscious companions, and dragged them away from the wraiths.

Once Homura had pulled them further away, she couldn't take it anymore and collapsed, torment seizing her body, she glanced at Mami and Kyoko and sighed in relief when she realised that their eyes were starting to open.

Kyoko whimpered from the injury to her head, before she glanced and Mami and Homura. "Mami! Homura!" She raised her voice but soon went into a coughing fit; she clutched her shoulder, which had blood seeping out of it.

Mami had raised herself from the ground and sat next to Homura, ignoring the blood seeping through her clothes. She whimpered.

"We are all seriously injured, we cannot fight tonight."

Kyoko settled herself next to Mami. "I see…" She said somewhat formally, still holding her head.

The three watched in anticipation as the army of Wraiths made their way towards them.

Hitomi glanced up at the midnight blue sky. The moon now had an azure tint to it. A determined expression took over Hitomi's face, she faced Kyubey.

Kyubey smiled as usual. "Now Shizuki Hitomi, what wish do you want granted?"

Hitomi took a deep breath and held her hand over her heart.

"I wish…!"

Suddenly a flash of blue light illuminated the courtyard. Homura gasped and covered her eyes.

"What's happening?!" Kyoko shouted, holding her arm over face as the pulse from the power started to blow them away.

Homura remembered something. When she had seen Mami on the beach, that golden light.

After a few seconds the light faded slightly, and standing in its place in front of the Wraiths was a glowing sapphire coloured girl. All they could see from a distance was a white cape billowing out from the back.

Homura, Mami and Kyoko stared in awe, they didn't even notice that their wounds healed. The girl raised her arms to the sky, and out of nowhere a massive ball of water appeared in her hands, she jumped up and threw the water ball across the sky, the girl then pulled a sword from her cape and threw it at the water.

The water sphere burst on impact, rain fell down like bullets onto the wraiths, their distorted screams echoing.

The girl landed on the ground and immediately pulled out two more swords, blue liquid dripped off them, the girl waved the swords and the water stayed in the air like blades. The girl grabbed them and was now carrying two blades on each hand.

The girl slashed through the wraiths, then jumped over some that tried to take a blow at her, she flipped and landed on one of the Wraith's blades, in which she cut in half. The girl then covered herself with the cape and opened it up again to reveal at least seven more swords. She slammed them into the wraiths beside her.

Smoke billowed out from all directions as the girl flipped into the air and landed on a trail of glowing blue musical notes, these travelled her around the wraiths and up into the sky. In the centre. The glowing figure stretched her arms up to the sky, her white gloved hands started to glow.

Out of nowhere a pillar of liquid appeared from her hands, it disappeared up in the night. The girl elevated herself up, before holding her hands out as waves of water, drowning the wraiths.

Soon enough there was only one left, the main one in the centre. The caped female dropped from the sky and fell above the wraith; she formed a glistening silver sword and in a millisecond plunged the sword into the spirit on impact.

Smoke billowed out and the screams finally disappeared. The girl was standing sturdily in the middle of the courtyard, still glowing with that glorious azure light. Her cape drifted to the side.

The three magical girls on the sidelines stared, speechless.

"That was…. Amazing." Mami breathed.

She's right. Homura thought, narrowing her eyes. Too good for her.

The girl turned towards the three girls.

Kyoko flinched.

The girl strode towards them, her white cape bellowing in the wind. As she walked closer, the glow did not fade. But Kyoko saw that she had a blue fringe covering her cloudy eyes.

The girl finally stood over them, she took glances.

Suddenly the blue glow around the girl left, she swayed on the spot for a moment before her eyes closed and her body went limp, she fell onto Kyoko, who yelped before catching her and settling the girls head on her lap.

"It couldn't be…." Mami stated in disbelief.

The girl wore a blue and white sleeveless t-shirt that had frills and a golden lining. Her blue skirt was diagonal. She wore long white socks and short blue boots. The girl donned dark blue sleeves that were connected to white gloves. The white cape was connected at her neck and went down her shoulders. On her belly was a crescent-shaped blue gem. Her most defining feature at this moment was her shoulder length blue hair with a diagonal fringe.

Kyoko's eyes went dangerously wide.

"Sayaka…"
