A/N: And in case you're wondering; yes I think that Hitomi is a bitch slut whore that should die in a pit, but I'm only including her in this fanfic for points of suffering.
Now ONWARDS!
Chapter Fifteen- "I'm just the opposite."
Dawn broke through the sky, its pink glow enlightening the city, while streaks of orange were littered throughout the sky.
Five girls stood in the city, over a tall building that blocked the sky's glow like a silhouette.
A green haired girl fell to her knees, wincing over the scratches over her body as the back of her dress spread over the ground. Blood seeped from her wounds.
Homura breathed heavily, clutching her weapon as blood dripped from her leg, the other three around them were exhausted and restless.
Sayaka walked to the grief seeds on the ground and picked them up, before throwing them over to the other girls; she strode over to Hitomi and crouched down.
The sunrise lit up the early morning sky in a glorious radiance as Sayaka touched Hitomi's wounds, they healed in an instant. With a small gasp, the emerald haired girl glanced at the bluenette, who smiled at her.
"I never got to thank you," she whispered, beaming happily. "I'm so glad I'm back now. So thank you, Hitomi."
Tears brimmed Hitomi's eyes before falling down her flushed cheeks. "I…" She stammered. "I just wanted to see you again, Sayaka-san."
"I know, and I'm sorry for being a burden to you."
The emerald haired girl quickly shook her head. "You're not a burden."
Sayaka smiled. "I'm glad we could meet again."
Watching the scene, Kyoko visibly flinched at the bluenette's last sentence, and turned around, quickly changing back to her ordinary clothes in a flash of light. "I don't count that girl in our team," She held onto the word 'team' like it was poison, "she's a rooky and nearly got herself killed."
Sayaka jumped up, facing Kyoko. "She has just as much right to be with us as I do!"
"And what right do you have?" The redhead said darkly. "You're only here because you need the grief seeds, am I right?"
"I want to protect people."
"Cut that crap. You need to learn that selfless wishes always end up backfiring on you."
Sayaka clenched her fists. "What would you know?! Have you ever messed up so badly that other people have had to suffer for it?!"
Kyoko paused, indignant of that remark. "Shut up." She whispered, before leaping into the distance.
Mami changed back just as the redhead, passing the three girls. "I am glad that you have done a good job, Shizuki-san. I approve of your choice of weapons." She smiled at Hitomi. "I hope you fight with us again." And with that, she stepped off the tower.
"Mami-san…" Sayaka trailed off. Something seems to be amiss.
"Miki-san."
The bluenette whirled her head around at Homura, who spoke carefully. "You may not know this, but your previous comment hurt Kyoko greatly, I suggest that you take mind to your words in the future. Her past come as one of her weaknesses."
"I know nothing of her past."
"I cannot count how many times Sakura Kyoko has told you her former troubles, as a way of trying to get you to have a better outlook on her. But, you have forgotten." Homura paused. "I think the fact that you cannot remember anything hurts her the most."
"What?" Sayaka said softly, concerned of the stoic girls last statement.
But the stoic girl turned away. "And you know nothing of this world; you should not speak of it in such a manner."
What manner? The bluenette thought to herself, just as Homura jumped off the tower and into the light of the sunrise, her silhouette quickly disappeared as it was consumed by the bright amber light.
Hitomi stood. "Has Akemi-san always been so cold to other people?"
Sayaka thought for a second, before nodding. "Yeah, I guess. She must be on edge a lot."
"She's got a mysterious aura to her, doesn't she?"
The bluenette muffled an agreement, as her mind wandered back to what Homura had said to her.
' I think the fact that you cannot remember anything hurts her the most.' Frowning, Sayaka kicked a pebble on the ground in frustration. What does she know? Kyoko doesn't care for… Her azure eyes snapped open.
"Sayaka-san?" Hitomi waved her hand over the bluenette's eyes. "What's wrong?"
Snapping back, Sayaka laughed nervously and held a hand over her head. "Sorry, a little dazed there. We should go back home now."
In a flash of green and blue, the two changed back into their school uniform and said their goodbyes.
A pale hand run up the vision of the sun, creating circles in the air, leaving a trail of red and blue hovering in the air, his cloaked arm moved along with his cryptic chanting. Soon enough a magic circle was creating in the air. The man muttered a few words before spreading his arms out. A violet light appeared within the circle that surrounded him. The light flickered between five colours, pink, purple, yellow, blue and red, before landing on a bright gold.
The Reaper finally lifted his head, as his eyes glowed as his cloak lifted up.
"Potentia ad futura, ad manus, et sapientia coram Deo me robora. Praetereundum non dignum, sed ipse qui admirantur mundi mutavit. Da virtutis futura!"*
The space surrounding him suddenly lit up, blinding The Reaper temporarily, when the light faded in front of the sorcerer was a sheet, resembling water. He spread his hand across it, and ripples spread across it, and a vision formed before him.
His eyes widening at the image before him, her almost stared in disbelief, before lowering his head as his hood once again passed over his eyes and she sheet before him, as well as the magic circle vanished.
"He…" The Reaper chuckled, as the scene replayed in his mind. "Young Goddess, it looks like you'll have protectors soon…"
'It's just…. I….'
A sword fell onto the ground with a loud clank.
A redhead stood before it, clenching her teeth in rage. "Cut the shit." She muttered.
She stepped toward the bluenette slumped against the wall, her eyes were blank and her white cape draped across her back, Kyoko's eyes were full of rage. "There's no point in defeating familiars! Just go after the witches dammit!"
Kyoko eyed Sayaka, as her azure eyes were clouded over. "You're working alone aren't you? Then do whatever the hell you want! You're going to end up unable to fight!"
Sayaka glanced up, looking at the redhead before her with a doubtful look. "What's it to you?" She asked, but before Kyoko could answer, she continued. "You hate losing Grief Seeds to other people, right? Just beat all the witches yourself. That way, I can focus on the familiars. We'd both be happy, and the town would be safe. It works out. In short, we defeat all the witches and familiars. Isn't that…."
Anger boiled from inside Kyoko as she cut the bluenette off. "…Oh, for…!" Calming down, she closed her eyes in a frustrated way. "Anyway…" Her tone soothed, to something more civil.
"What you're doing now isn't good. I've made the same mistakes, just listen to what your Senpai has to say."
Sayaka was silent. "…What's 'the same'?" Her eyes were shadowed over with grief as she leaned forward in the sitting position. "Don't lump me in with people like you… people who justify sacrificing people for their own needs." She paused. "Or what? Do you mean to say that you've lost people important due to your own foolishness?"
Kyoko glared. "Exactly."
Sayaka's eyes widened at the answer, before she calmed again. "That's right. Did you hate yourself? Did you ever think that you'd be better off dead?"
"I didn't."
"Yeah, that's just how you are."
Pulling her knees to her chest, she muttered. "I'm just the opposite."
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Kyoko sat next to Sayaka, pulling a box of pocky out and opening the lid. She stuffed a piece of it in her mouth and said coldly; "You want to give people a miracle, and then give them your own life? That's a fucking stupid way to live."
"…I guess so. I know that it's stupid."
Kyoko turned to head to face the bluenette, as her face perked up slightly. Sayaka continued; "The one person I wanted to hide it from found out, that I'm a magical girl. That's why I ran away, I was scared of people learning about my mistakes.
"I don't know what I'd do if people found out my worst aspects. I thought it'd be better to… hide everything and just disappear, consumed by a witch. That way, nobody would hate me, and everybody would mourn for me in the end." Her soft and grief filled voice echoed across the space
"…you just… thought of me as a coward, didn't you?"
Unresponsive, Kyoko fiddled with the tip of her pocky piece, a sigh capturing her throat.
Sayaka's azure eyes filled with tears, as she hugged her legs and rested her head on her knees. "That's fine. I guess… I think so, too."
The redhead offered pocky to the depressed bluenette, who turned her head to look. Kyoko smiled slightly. "Who cares what anyone else thinks? It's your life, do whatever you want to do. That's the right way to live.
"As for Mami… she likes the way she lives. She lives so she can fight for justice. That's why she can go to the lengths she does. We're not like that."
Kyoko spun the piece of pocky in her fingers. "Basically, she's special. There's no reason for us to get depressed just because we can't be story book heroes like that."
Sayaka narrowed her eyes at that comment. "Did you leave Mami-san because you couldn't be like her?"
"Yeah. You ought to…"
"Sorry." Sayaka interrupted, standing up, "Maybe that's good enough for you, but that won't satisfy me." She walked in front of the redhead, white cape flowing behind her. "I know I can't become a true defender of justice like Mami-san, but I don't want to become a selfish magical girl who lets familiars run free for her own benefit."
"You… You idiot! You're didn't understand a word-!"
"Like you suggested I'm going to go search for a witch." The bluenette cut in, changing back into her school uniform in blue light. "You're happy with that, I take it. My apologies with bothering you with my complaints."
Kyoko slowly lowered her raised hand as she watched Sayaka leave. She stood, with her dull eyes as she noticed a blonde girl behind her. "It's too late, stupid."
Mami stood, as Kyoko spoke her blonde drills drifted in the breeze. "You haven't been keeping an eye on her. Looks like your precious junior's gone her own way."
A spear formed in Kyoko's hand, pointed in the direction Sayaka headed. "She's searching for a witch. You should go after her." She sneered at Mami. "She's even weaker than I was back then. A witch might make a snack out of her, see? What you going to do?"
Mami passed Kyoko, sprinting while her feet made clanking sounds against the metallic ground. Kyoko turned her head to follow her, a sympathetic gaze filled her face.
"Obviously. You don't want this to…. Happen again either." A memory of her former Senpai searching through the snow for her filled her mind. "I'm sure you've got your own thoughts about this, Mami. She'll be fine."
Changing back into her green hoodie, she muttered to herself. "My bad for getting in your way, Senpai. You'll still make it in time. You don't want Sayaka… to turn out like me do you?"
Gasping, azure eyes flew open, sleeping on her side, she caught the bed sheets and her hand brushed her soul gem ring, causing a shiver down her spine. "What was that?"
Sayaka sat up, touching her forehead softly. "Was that… a memory?"
Still shaken, she slowly stood up and walked over to the door, she held onto the doorknob to stop herself from falling. Her head spun while her vision blurred. She clutches her head before her eyes clear up and she becomes stable again.
"Geez, what's with this?" Sayaka sighed, as she walked into the kitchen.
"Don't you find this strange?" Homura asked Mami and Kyoko, who sat opposite from her in her living room.
"Find what strange?" Kyoko asked, biting into the bright red apple in her hand.
"That Miki Sayaka has come back to life."
"Oh. That."
"I agree." Mami added, hand rising to her chin in thought. "I thought that Kyubey…"
"The Incu- I mean, Kyubey." Homura corrected herself. "Kyubey does not have to power to bring people back to life."
"We know that." Kyoko stated, "But why though?"
"When a person dies, their soul disappears, you cannot bring a soul back from the dead and therefore can't bring someone back to life."
The redhead growled. "Smartass."
"Didn't The Reaper say that he was the son of the Grim Reaper?"
"Yes." Homura's expression filled with thought as she narrowed her purple eyes. "I have learnt that the Grim Reaper is Death, the concept of it I assume. He is perhaps the most recognized entity of all time, neither ghost nor god; the Grim Reaper is a psychopomp whose job is to conduct the souls of the recently dead into the afterlife. He is depicted wielding a scythe which he uses to harvest souls with, although some accounts say he just touches the person to pop their soul so they don't feel pain when they die."
"So if The Grim Reaper is Death…." Kyoko started, trailing off quickly. "… Then is the Reaper life? It makes sense since when I 'died' my subconscious was sent to my soul, so would he have this thing to prevent people from dying?"
"I doubt it." Mami disagreed. "I agree with him being able to prevent death. But he seemed to suspicious to be the opposite to The Grim Reaper. That girl he was talking about in the legend, he said that they were enemies, so doesn't that make him…."
"The Reaper has a hatred for humans." Homura concluded, and the blonde and the redhead stared at her.
"It's simple, the Law of Cycles represents magical girls when they are sent off to heaven, or something similar. And The Reaper represents almost something like the opposite, he corrupts the way they die, so their body disappears but their mind ends up in their corrupted soul gem."
"Homura," Kyoko started, and the stoic girl turned to her. "Why must you be such a smartass?" Homura hid a smile.
"I just know these things."
"But what if you're wrong?" Mami asked, her stare becoming harsh and stern.
"I know, because he was lying."
Homura's words hung in the tense air, as Kyoko finally spat out. "W-what?"
"I believe that in our conversation with the Reaper, in some parts, he was lying."
"In which parts?"
"He said he wanted to erase despair and grief from this world, that's a lie."
Kyoko scoffed. "I knew that was a lie instantly, after he just tested my power by putting me in a gem, I knew that wasn't what he had planned."
"What else Akemi-san?" Mami asked.
Homura closed her eyes, ready to explain. "Remember when he said that you awakened Tomoe-san?" She gestured at Mami. "He said that all Magical girls were destined to awaken one day. I highly doubt that."
"Why is that?"
"Don't you think it seems highly unlikely? The real mystery to your so called 'awakening' is still unknown, but the Reaper is still keeping some things from us that he will not reveal."
Kyoko leaned closer, putting her arms on her knees. "So why would you think that he won't reveal them?"
"It's simple." Homura stated. "He's got a plan of his own, one day he'll explain it to us, expecting us to fall into despair, but we won't."
"That… makes sense."
Silence rested in the room of Homura's apartment, the pendulum creating ticking noise across the space.
Mami eventually spoke up. "What about Shizuki Hitomi?" All faces turned to her. "What will happen to her?"
"The fate of Shizuki-san is anonymous, anything could happen to her beyond this point."
"Why did she bring Sayaka back in the first place?" Kyoko questioned, something on a personal matter. "Because her memory has been erased, and it seems like nothing is going to come back to her anytime soon."
Homura felt empathy towards the redhead. "Kyoko, I'm sure she'll remember something sometime soon." She has to, she doesn't belong her in the first place, her memories have to start coming back.
Kyoko huffed, her eyes cast over as she gritted her teeth in frustration. "I think we should look for the Reaper."
"Why is that?"
"Isn't it obvious, if I find him, we can bring a stop to his plan or whatever, and…"
Mami raised an eyebrow. "You haven't thought this through, have you?"
Kyoko shook her head, and the blonde sighed.
"I agree with Kyoko." Homura said. "I think we should go and look for him, him and the Incubator are probably forming a plot, so we have to put an end to that before Miki Sayaka and Shizuki Hitomi find out."
"Yep." The redhead jumped off the couch, taking a clear bite of her pocky. "Let's go."
Hitomi held up her whips, before they materialized into cat-o-nine tails, and she slashed them into the wraiths in front of her, as they disappeared. She flipped over, dodging one of their blades, as her dress flew high into the air. She landed on her black boots as she tore through the wraiths.
Panting as she picked up the grief seeds left on the ground, she purified her soul gem and threw away the seeds as they disappeared when Kyubey ate them. Smiling, the white creature jumped onto Hitomi's back as she left, changing back into her school uniform in a flash.
Suddenly she felt a massive pain and she crouched down. "Argh!" The throbbing was violent and continuous, Hitomi put a head in her hand while Kyubey crouched beside her, unsurprised.
Sayaka's regaining her memories, The Incubator thought, swishing its tail in the night air.
The dirt flew into the air as red boots skid across the ground a leapt up into the air, her red dress billowing out behind her, a blonde and a dark haired girl quickly followed in pursuit.
A loud gong sound sounded everywhere around them and the three girls stopped.
"What is-?" Homura was cut off as a wide pain resonated in her head, she stooped to the ground. Clutching her head as she clenched her teeth, she let out a grunt of pain. "S-Shit." She muttered.
"Homura?" Kyoko said, her concern of the girl in pain growing. She turned to see the sky turning a dark pink colour, and the vast space around them twisting. "What is this?!" She exclaimed.
"Akemi-san!" Mami yelled in distress, grabbing the brunette's shoulder only for it to be cast away by a pulse of power emitting from her. "What?" She whispered in shock.
"It's the Reaper!"
Suddenly the ground tore apart, and the sky cracked around them, rippled landscapes were torn by the strong wind blowing around the girls, and black flames crackled around them, sparks lit from the fiery gaze of the world surrounding them.
And as the girls were torn apart by thin parts of glass separating them, Homura was thinking, Is his plan succeeding?
A/N: Ha intense, yeah I know where this is going act confused if you like cause its gonna continue.
Yeah this chapter was mostly talking and some stuff in there that I can't understand myself. Jokes I can understand it.
Oh and I was really lazy writing this chapter, below my standards again... *sigh*
Oh and the translation for the latin: *"The power of the future, and to combat, and give me strength and wisdom in the sight of God. Must not pass worthy of them but man himself who is admired by the world has changed. Grant the future! '" Apparently cause I don't know latin and Google Translate isn't always right.
Someone who knows latin feel free to correct me (google translate) and I will change it.
Reviews are welcome!
