It was the day of the last match of the season and James believed that all the training that his team had done would pay off in the match against Hufflepuff. He felt proud at the effort that everyone had put into training, including Sirius. His best friend was focussing on training and the upcoming match since his breakup with Marlene. James knew that Sirius was hurting, he didn't even acknowledge Marlene's existence anymore.
After breakfast that morning, the team made their way down to the changing rooms and James kissed Lily goodbye. Everyone was nervous about how the match would play out due to the fact that Jeremy Thomas was now filling in one of the chaser positions; and everyone knew that Jeremy hated James as much as Snape hated James.
The team changed into their robes and went out onto the pitch, shaking hands with the Hufflepuff captain Harvey Bellamy. The whistle blew and they flew onto the pitch, with Keira catching the quaffle and throwing it to him. James sped up on his broom, swerving around Jeremy as his rival tried to take the quaffle from him. James threw it into one of the goalposts, with Gryffindor cheering excitedly below him. He had just scored the first goal of the match.
"Gryffindor chaser James Potter takes the lead...
The bludgers seemed to be as ferocious as ever, feeling grateful when one of his beaters whacked one away from him as he watched Sirius pass the quaffle to Keira and head down the Hufflepuff end of the pitch. James flew to catch up with them, noticing that Jeremy was on his tail.
"Gryffindor chaser Keira Hunt loses the quaffle to Hufflepuff captain Harvey Bellamy. Passes to Jeremy Thomas. Passes to Nigel Phillips. Phillips to Bellamy and BELLAMY SCORES!"
It was the Hufflepuff's turn to cheer now as the two teams were tieing. Lily looked around at Marlene who seemed to be staring dreamily at Jeremy, that was odd. Why would see be looking at Jeremy like that?
"Marley?"
Her friend turned to face her, the dreamy look now wiped from her face.
"Why are you staring at Jeremy?"
Marlene blinked, "I have no idea what you're talking about." she replied defensively.
Lily frowned, "Marley I know when you're lying, since when do you admire Jeremy after everything he's done to me, James and Georgia?"
"You broke his heart Lily, he did nothing to you!"
Lily scoffed in disbelief, "You and Sirius were mad about each other and then I put your snapping at him down to the argument you had. Now you've got a thing for Jeremy?"
"I've always had a thing for Jeremy, I made him better after you ditched him. As for Georgia, she was just a slut asking for what she's going through."
This shocked her, Marlene had never been like this in all their years of friendship. Something drastic must have happened to Marlene for her to be this way, but she spent nearly everyday with Marlene and her behaviour had only been slightly odd since the day of the argument she had with Sirius. She knew that Marlene had gone back to the dormitory before class and Marlene had said that she had had eaten some chocolate to cheer herself up a bit. As Lily thought on it, she knew that Alice and Mary preferred sweets to chocolate so never bought it from Honeydukes. She had had some as a present from Jeremy for her birthday, had Marlene helped herself to those? If so, did they contain a love potion of some sort? That was the only way to explain Marlene's odd behaviour.
"Gryffindor leads one hundred and ten to eighty-
The crowds were still cheering and James knew that Alice hadn't yet seen the snitch. Jeremy was determined to be as violent as possible when James had hold of the quaffle, for James had guessed that Jeremy wanted to settle the score between them. He ignored Jeremy's attempts at stealing the quaffle so violently, having nearly been knocked off his broom once, as it was a pathetic attempt for revenge.
As Sirius scored the next goal and put Gryffindor up to one hundred and twenty points, James noticed the extremely angry look on Jeremy's face. The boy's anger had to do with more than Gryffindor winning the match now.
"Seeker Alice Prewett has seen the snitch!"
James turned his attention, cheering Alice on as she stretched out her arm. Jeremy sped up towards the Hufflepuff beaters and snatched one of their bats from their grasp. A bludger came speeding towards Jeremy and before James had time to acknowledge what was happening, he was hit in the back of the head with a bludger.
Alice caught the snitch and the crowd screamed in horror as they watched James fall from his broomstick. Twenty feet in the air and falling to his death unconsciously, Dumbledore stood from his seat and cast a cushioning charm so that James wouldn't be more seriously injured than he was now. For now, as devastated and upset as she was, Lily knew that there was nothing that she could do. James would be taken to the hospital wing and then once he was stable, she'd be able to find out how her boyfriend was. She felt angry, for Jeremy had to keep trying to make her life a misery.
A/N: So please don't hate me too much for leaving it there, the next chapter will be done within the next few weeks. I have a lot of friends turning twenty-one at the moment so haven't had much chance to update my stories and there's also the fact I have three birthdays in my little family in the next few weeks, the joys of being a parent and planning a joint birthday party.
I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter and I can assure you that Jeremy will be getting his comeuppance soon. There's still some things that I need to finish with Georgia too.
As always please review :)
