Yuuki arrived at the sushi restaurant in a pale blue knee length strapless. She was wearing her black petticoat to cover her bare shoulders. She had agreed to meet Minobe-kun right at the entrance, eager to meet some of his friends.
She felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to find Minobe dressed smartly, smelling of cologne and aftershave.
Her surprised look must have worried Minobe, and he asked cautiously, "shall we sit?"
"erm… I thought we had others joining us?" Yuuki responded, taken aback by how dressed up he was.
"Oh.." he blushed a slight pink. "We were going to meet up with them after.."
"So it's just you and me?"
"Yea.. I wanted to thank you for helping me out."
"Oh, okay then."
They headed towards a table with two chairs near the back of the restaurant.
"So, I ordered us this special drink they have in advance. It's pretty strong though, I hope you can handle it." Minobe winked.
"I think I can handle it. I'm not as light-weight as I look." Yuuki retorted.
They spent the evening chatting about school and the other classmates. Yuuki didn't realize how much she was missing out on, as she was always busy with the Disciplinary Committee and vampires. She had only ever hung out with Zero and Yori, it was a nice change to see other classmates outside of school, to be a kid again.
After Minobe had paid for dinner (he insisted), they walked outside into the brisk evening. Yuuki was pink from the champagne they had, stumbling slightly in her heels.
"Woah there." Minobe steadied her as she leaned towards him.
"You really can't take your alcohol can you..?" He teased.
She punched his arm. "We split a full bottle..and you made me drink most of it. Trying to get me drunk, aren't you." She narrowed her eyes jokingly.
"Well you look so cute when you're drunk." Minobe ran his fingers through her hair.
He brought her towards him quickly and pressed his lips on hers.
Yuuki, reactions dulled from the alcohol, did not realize his advances until she was kissing him. She pushed him away abruptly, covering her lips with her hand in shock.
Minobe's face turned from bliss to apologetic.
"Sorry, I.. I should have been clear."
Yuuki watched him in stunned silence.
"I thought it was obvious.. but I like you Yuuki-chan."
Yuuki shook her head, still unable to speak. They stood in awkward gaze of each other for a moment before Yuuki found the words she needed to say.
"Minobe-kun.. I'm blind when it comes to things like this.. I'm sorry if I led you on, but I don't like you that way. You shouldn't.." Yuuki shook her head again. "You shouldn't have done that…"
Minobe-kun looked down to hide his reaction. He kicked at the gravel on the pavement. "I apologize Yuuki-chan, I just thought you were having a good time with me tonight."
"I was.. I was. But this can't happen. Sorry Minobe." Yuuki turned and ran.
She ran back towards campus in her heels, stumbling as she went.
"Damn it." Yuuki took her shoes off and held them clutched in her hands. She ran barefoot rest of the way, anxious to be behind closed doors.
Tears sprang to her eyes and she touched the lips that had been grazed just recently.
"Fuck, I should've stopped him faster.. damn alcohol." She shook her head at herself.
As she finally reached her new room in the Night Class, she did not take time to look around, even thought it was the first time in her new room. She shut the door and sat down, hugged knees, against it.
Tears kept spilling over the rim of her eyes. "Why am I crying?" She asked herself.
"It was just a kiss. Why am I so upset."
The answer came to her slowly and unleashed another bout of tears.
The only lips she had ever wanted on hers were Kaname's.
