A/N: Oh hey there. I bet you're saying, "it's about time!" Y'all can beat me over the head with a stick for my tardiness. I kind of took a little sabbatical from klaroline for a while there, hence my absence and lack of updates. I do have an idea/remember where i'm going with this fic and hopefully am able to finish this off in 3 months and not take that long to update.
I'm so sorry for the extremely long wait, but i hope this chapter makes up for it. Adult themes ahead. Big thank you to my beta's, Angela and Jay who have been a huge. Anyway, Enjoy!
Chapter Sixteen
"Another date again this week?" Stefan questioned as he entered the master bedroom that belonged to Caroline. She peaked over her shoulder and smiled before turning her attention back to the vanity mirror she was sitting at.
"Hanging out at home and spending time with Nate while watching a movie is not a proper date, Stefan. He's taking me out for a real meal with adult conversation." she replied, eyeing him through the mirror.
Stefan moved across the room and sat down behind her on the large bed. "Can I come?"
Caroline laughed and shook her head, "sorry, it's only a date for two."
"I don't want to spend all night planning the wedding," he groaned, flopping back on the bed and rubbing his hands over his face in exasperation.
"Well it is your big day, you should have some input or else it may just be all white doves and flowers," she smirked while applying blush to her cheeks. "And how is the future Mrs. Stefan Salvatore doing lately?"
"She's going crazy. Turns out the lake house meets up with her standards but she said it needs fixing because it looks 'too rustic' and she's not getting married by a shack."
Caroline rolled her eyes, "the lake house is not a shack. It's the perfect place to get married, especially looking out over the lake with the leaves falling from trees. It'll be perfect, tell her to take a chill pill and calm down."
"I'll try," he grumbled, pushing himself up into a sitting position. "I just need to be married to her already before she goes crazy."
"It'll happen soon," she reassured him. Standing up from the vanity after completing her make-up, Caroline quickly gave Stefan a hug before going into the bathroom to change into her dress for the evening.
As she was finishing up the final touches to her outfit for the night she heard the doorbell ring causing the butterflies to flutter at the bottom of her stomach. Despite spending so much time with him recently the sound of the doorbell always made her a little nervous.
Klaus had kept the details of the date to himself, telling Caroline minimal details about where they were going but she assumed since it was Klaus and it was their first real date as a couple, and knew she couldn't wear something casual like jeans. So she settled for emerald green sundress and white cardigan with her hair in a loose bun.
She could hear Nate opening the door for Klaus. Another voice that was oddly familiar floated up through the house. Curiosity got the better of Caroline and as she applied the finishing touches to her attire, earrings and a silver bracelet, she made her way down the stairs.
To her surprise, it wasn't Kol accompanying Klaus to babysit Nate but rather his youngest brother, Henrik. Caroline gave a questioning look towards Klaus but he was too busy staring her up and down. Caroline cleared her throat, bringing his attention to her eyes rather than her body.
"Caroline, you look…amazing," he finally said, stepping forward to grab her hand and help her down the remaining two stairs. When both feet were firmly planted on solid ground he leaned into her and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you," she blushed. "I thought Kol and Bonnie were babysitting tonight."
"Bonnie got pulled into wedding planning with Rebekah and Katherine at the last minute, some kind of snag in the plans. Kol and Stefan get to spend some time with our eldest brother, painting the nursery for Katherine. Luckily, we got Henrik here who owes me years of babysitting to make up for the years I got stuck looking after him," Klaus explained, waving behind him to the teenage boy who rolled his eyes.
Caroline had met Henrik before but was still wary of leaving Nate alone with him; he was her baby after all. Klaus seemed to notice the apprehension in her eyes and squeezed her hands, "everything will be fine, Henrik has baby sat before and Nate knows him."
Caroline looked up at him and nodded before looking behind him to see Nate already occupying Henrik in the living room, talking animatedly. She walked into the living room, Klaus close behind her. "We're going now, the emergency contacts are on the fridge but if you need anything at all, don't be afraid to call."
Henrik smiled up at her, "okay."
"His bed time is around eight and don't let him bully you into staying up later," she smirked over at the little boy who was blushing from his spot on the couch behind Henrik. "Come give your mama a hug."
Nate jumped up and ran to her, throwing his arms around her as Caroline bent down. "Be good, okay?"
"Yes, Mama," Nate replied, giving her a light kiss on the cheek. He let go, walking behind her to give Klaus a quick hug as well before going to sit back on the couch.
"Ready?" Klaus asked Caroline.
She nodded, grabbing onto his hand as he led them to the front of the house. "Don't stay out too late," Henrik called out, laughing at his own joke.
Klaus rolled his eyes, "I'll have her back before curfew."
Caroline chuckled, "let's go already!"
The two walked out of the door and into the streets. She was excited to see what Klaus had planned for their date. "What do you have planned for tonight?" Caroline asked, her hand intertwining with his as they walked down the city streets.
"How about a home cooked meal at my apartment?"
Caroline looked up at him and smiled, "you've never cooked for me before… I'd love it!"
Henrik looked behind him at the closed door to which his brother and Caroline just exited through and down at the little boy in front of him. Nate was just staring up at him with wide eyes and his mouth hanging open. He was the baby of the family, he wasn't good with children, and he was just doing this for his older brother.
Henrik clapped his hands in front of him, "so, Nate, what do you want to do tonight?"
A slow smile crept onto his face, "I have lots of games we can play. Then maybe after dinner we can build a fort and make sundaes and Percy can watch movies with us! This is going to be awesome!"
Henrik stood there, watching as the kid continued to talk before running away. He moved to follow him past the kitchen and into the playroom. He was only two seconds behind Nate but when he walked into the room, toys were spread everywhere and Nate was kneeling in front of a toy box throwing toys over his shoulder.
He rubbed his hand down the side of his face, knowing he was in for a long night.
Klaus led her through the street, just a few blocks away from her own house and up into his apartment. Caroline remembered the last time she had been in his apartment, they were certainly under different circumstances. She tentatively took a step across the threshold while looking around the dim apartment. Klaus was just behind her, turned the lights on and closed the door behind him.
His apartment was just how she remembered it. It was large, the kitchen on her left with a small counter that divided it from the living room where two couches and a television were positioned and took over a majority of the big room. A hallway ahead of her led to the bedrooms at the back. The walls were painted a soft beige with black furniture.
Klaus stepped around her, taking hold of her hand and leading her into the kitchen. "I was thinking maybe chicken stir-fry for dinner?" Klaus suggested when they entered the kitchen.
It was huge for an apartment, almost the size of her own. He had white cabinets with shiny black appliances. It was a more modern style kitchen, something Caroline approved of.
"Sounds delicious," Caroline said, smiling up at him. She watched as Klaus floated around the kitchen, grabbing ingredients from the fridge.
Caroline took a seat at the island, watching him and loving being on the other side of making dinner for a change. Whenever Klaus came over they made dinner together, but this time was different from the others. For starters there were no five years olds running around; it was in Klaus' apartment and Caroline didn't have to do a majority of the work. It was nice.
Once everything was ready to go, Klaus turned on the stereo system that was located in the kitchen above the fridge. The soft sounds of jazz lowly leaked from the speakers in the top corners of the kitchen. Next, he grabbed two wine glasses and a red bottle of wine and poured them each a glass.
Caroline held her glass up to him in a toast, "to our official first date without any children."
Klaus clinked his glass with hers and took a small sip before leaning down and pressing a small kiss to her lips. He pulled away slightly while Caroline quietly put her wine glass on the counter before reaching her hand up to curl around his neck and bring his lips back down to her. He tasted too good to resist.
The kiss quickly overtook the two, Caroline quietly moaning into his mouth when he slipped his tongue past her lips. His hands, now devoid of wine glass, held onto her hips and roamed up the side of her body. Klaus chuckled, trying to pull back, "if we don't stop now you'll never get your dinner."
"I don't mind," Caroline said, capturing his lips again.
Klaus just gave her a quick peck and pulled away completely. "I owe you a nice dinner, Caroline, don't try to tempt me into anything more."
Caroline stood from her chair, "But what if I want to tempt you with more?"
Klaus looked over his shoulder to see her smirking devilishly at him. "Dinner first."
Caroline scowled at him. "Never thought you'd be the one to want dinner first." Klaus ignored that comment, continuing with his task. Caroline got the hint and stepped forward, "What can I help you with?"
Klaus eyed her warily before turning back to all the vegetables that needed to be cut up. "You mind cutting those?"
"No problem," she smiled, brushing past him and towards the cutting board where she began cutting up peppers.
Klaus placed her wine glass beside her, knowing she could never be far from it while he began preparing the chicken. It was a nice kind of peace that had settled over the kitchen, both working on dinner in a comfortable silence.
Caroline had finished with her task first, the peppers cut up and waiting to be cooked in the pan along with the other ingredients. Klaus had long since put the chicken in the oven to cook and began making the sauce for the stir fry.
He was measuring numerous ingredients, different kinds of spices that Caroline barely recognized, and pouring them into a bowl. She watched him for a moment, he was lightly biting his tongue and brow creased in concentration. Caroline downed her glass of wine, slightly turned on and wanting Klaus, before striding across the kitchen. He didn't even notice her.
She leaned up on the tips of her toes, lightly brushing her lips against the shell of his ear from behind. Her hands settled on his sides, slowly making their way around to the front as she kissed the back of his neck.
Klaus tensed under her, "What are you doing?"
"Nothing," she smirked into her hair before pulling away.
Klaus shot her a confused look before resuming her task. Caroline stepped forward again, her front against his back and began to run her hands across his front, starting at his shoulders and dragging them lazily across his hard body. She leaned up and kissed the back of his neck, working her way forward, leaving a trail of kisses.
He cocks his head to the side, "What do you think you are doing young lady?" He asked playfully.
"Nothing," she repeats, smirking as she captures his lips in a brief kiss over his shoulder. She managed to squeeze herself between him and the counter, pushing the supplies over so she can hop on top.
"Caroline," Klaus warned, pulling apart. "If you keep distracting me, dinner well never get made."
"I know," she smiles up at him. "I don't mind."
Klaus chuckles, "let me finish this and then I'll give my undivided attention to you."
Caroline sulks and jumps off the counter and over to the wine bottle where she greedily pours herself another glass. She sits in the chair at the island where she was seated before, watching as Klaus worked on the sauce, stirring all the ingredients together.
She was thankful for the view, his shirt tight against his back and she was able to see his muscles move through his shirt with every movement he made. Her eyes languidly travelled south, over the slight curve of his ass. Caroline slowly dragged her eyes back up his body and yes, she was definitely thankful for the view.
Klaus looked over his shoulder, "stop ogling me."
Caroline rolled her eyes and took a drink of wine. "I'm not ogling, I'm admiring."
He raised his eyebrows in question as he turned around to face her. "Really?"
"Mhmm," she murmured, standing up and making her way towards him.
"What were you admiring?"
She ran her hands over his chest, feeling the heat beneath her fingers. "Your muscles…" her hands ran over his arms and onto his back, moving south until they were roaming over his ass. "And your very cute butt."
Klaus smirked. "Cute?"
Caroline scrunched her nose, "hot?"
"Much better," he smirked down at her. Klaus gave her a kiss on the nose before turning back around to finish his preparation.
Caroline backed off, watching as he turned on the stove top and began to mix the vegetables in a frying pan. However, before he could drop the cut up peppers into the pan, the power went off, leaving them in darkness.
"What'd you do?" Caroline questioned, her voice a little louder than intended.
Klaus turned around, catching the sight of her through the light that filtered through the windows. A soft orange glow from the setting sun illuminated her skin, making her glow leaving him breathless for a moment.
He quickly cleared his throat, looking back to the oven which wasn't working and back around the apartment. "I didn't do anything."
"The power's out," Caroline stated.
Klaus moved across the room and towards the large window in the living room, he looked down into the streets below them. "The whole block is out."
"So power's going to be out for a while?"
"Possibly," he replied, returning back to the kitchen.
"I guess that means dinner is ruined," Caroline sighed, hopping off the stool and walking over to him.
Klaus sighed, a little disappointed. "Delayed I guess. My stove is electric." He really wanted this first date as a couple and away from family to be a good one. Now he wasn't too confident.
Caroline smiled, throwing her arms around his neck and causing him to look down at her. "Until the power comes back…, I can think of a few things to pass the time until it comes back on."
Klaus raised an eyebrow at her, finally catching on. "Oh really?"
"Mhmm," she hummed, leaning forward and capturing his lips.
His hands moved to settle on her hips, tightening his grip as he began to maneuver them towards the bedroom. Caroline squeaked when she felt herself bump into the wall. Klaus pulled away slightly, giving her an apologetic smile, which she couldn't see in the dark. She just grabbed his neck and pulled him down to her, settling against the wall.
Klaus grinned into the kiss, his hands roaming down her hips and onto her bare legs, scraping his nails against her silky skin as he dragged the material upwards. Caroline moaned, her hips jerking forward. Klaus pinned her against the wall with his body, his hands holding onto her hips under her dress and his thumbs playing with the line of her panties.
While still pining her with his body, he moved his head back slightly, nibbling at her bottom lip. Caroline threaded her fingers through his hair, pulling his face back to her so she can capture his lips in a kiss. He felt a surge of desire that made him push against her until their cores were rubbing against each other.
Klaus composed himself. He needed to go slow tonight. He gripped her hips as he began to move his tongue against hers with careful, slow caresses. One of his hands ran down her legs, hooking under the knee and bringing it around his hip. Caroline bucked her hips against his, relishing in the gentle friction that was there.
When her lungs began to burn, Caroline pulled away, her head resting against the wall. "Bedroom?"
Slow be damned, Klaus thought. His other hand moved behind her other knee and brought her leg around his hips. Caroline squeeze her legs, holding on tight as Klaus moved her away from the wall. His hands settled on her ass, thumbs moving in small circles. Caroline looked down at him, she could barely see as the shadows were settling over the apartment, but his lustful eyes were clear for her to see. Also, his eyes were so soft and sincere that she felt herself melt against him.
When they reached the end of the hallway, Klaus opened his bedroom door with a free hand and walked them inside. He gently placed her down on her feet, hands holding onto her hips to steady her as she came back to earth.
Caroline gave him an appreciative smile as she leaned forward and gave him a chaste kiss. Her hands settled on the hem of his dress shirt. She began undoing the buttons, moving upwards until she reached the last one and slowly pushed the shirt off his shoulders. Before it even reached the floor, Caroline had closed the distance and was leaving kisses across his shoulder and collarbone.
Klaus hummed in appreciation, his hands moving to her back to hold her close while undoing the zipper of her dress. She stepped back, her dress falling onto the floor in a heap. He then ran his fingers through her hair, gently undoing the loose bun it was in and letting it fall around her shoulders. Caroline met Klaus' intense stare, his blue eyes shining with the light from the sun that was slowly setting.
She met him halfway, their lips meeting in an intense kiss. Caroline turned them, her hands on his chest and pushing him gently towards the bed. When the back of his knees met the bed, Caroline forced him to lay down on the bed. She climbed on top of him, straddling his hips.
Klaus looked up at her, seeing her blonde hair now cascading around her face. He reached up, pushing her hair around her ear and captured her lips in another kiss. His hands slipped into her hair, pulling her down to him.
Caroline moaned, her tongue moving against his. Her hips began moving on their own, feeling the hardness beneath her as she began rocking her hips.
Klaus was running his hands all over her, wherever he could touch; over her arms, down her back and onto her hips. Caroline moved closer, her lips moving to his neck, nipping his skin and soothing it with her tongue. Her hands settled on his stomach, gently dragging her nails down his hard muscles.
He groaned loudly at the contact, loving when she began to suck on his pulse point. As her mouth moved down to his collarbone, dragging across to gently nip on his other one, her hands moved to his belt buckle and undoing it. Suddenly her lips were off him and she was back up at eye level with him, her lips hovering over his...
Her hips stopped their movement and her hand slipped inside his pants. Klaus groaned, hips jerking into her careful touch as she began to move her hand up and down his length.
Before she could get very far, Klaus was gripping her wrist and stopping her movements. "Caroline," he warned her.
Caroline looked innocently down at him, "what?"
Klaus reached up to cup her face and kissed her hard. He pulled back, hands gripping her wrist and flipping them around. She was looking up at him with wide eyes, surprised at finding herself in a new position.
He lowered himself, giving her lips a brief kiss before returning the same treatment she gave him. His lips attaching to her neck and moving onto her shoulder. Caroline wiggled beneath him while he held her down. The teasing strokes of his tongue against her skin sent heat rushing through her body and settling in the pit of her stomach.
Klaus reached around her back, undoing her bra and sliding the straps off her shoulder before throwing it off to the side. He pulled away, his eyes languidly dragging down her torso. "You're gorgeous, Caroline."
She blushed and Klaus kissed her nose. His lips made a path of open mouthed kisses from her neck to the valley of her breasts and then to one breast as he took a nipple in his mouth. His other hand cupped her other breast, rolling her nipple between his thumb and forefinger.
Her back arched up off the bed and into his hand and mouth. Caroline wrapped propped one leg on the bed while the other wrapped around his legs, her foot moving up and down on his calf.
Klaus began rocking against her core and her senses went into overdrive. She moaned loudly. He pulled away from her breasts smirking. Caroline rolled her eyes, laughing slightly as she gripped the back of his head and brought his lips back to hers. Klaus held himself above her with one arm while his other moved down her body, his hand slipping between them and into her panties.
His hips pulled away from hers, giving his hand some room. Caroline was impatient and disliked the lack of contact and began rolling her hips against his hand. Klaus caught up, his fingers playing with her slick folds and thumb pressing lightly on her clit.
Caroline gasped when he slipped a finger into her and began moving. Klaus tore his mouth away from her, leaving kisses on the top of her shoulder, allowing them both to breathe. He slipped in a secondary finger, his palm now adding pressure and rocking against her clit. His fingers curled inside her and Caroline's hips jerked upwards at the unexpected pressure within her calling out.
Caroline didn't have time to think, he was quickly building her high and sending her flying towards the edge. She was soon thrown over the edge of that metaphorical cliff and groaning in pleasure as she reached that desired high.
When she came back down, Klaus was leaving butterfly kisses across her jaw and onto her lips. She reached up, cupping his face and holding onto him as she deepened the kiss.
Her hands moved down to the waist band of his pants, tugging at them. Klaus pulled away confused. "Take them off," she said breathlessly.
Klaus chuckled and she noticed there was a small twinkle in his eye as he nodded, pulling back and standing up to remove his pants. She sat up, watching his every move and the way his muscles flexed as he removed his pants and then his boxers. He settled himself back on top of her, giving her a short, sweet kiss. His hands were now playing with the waistband of her panties. "I think these need to go too."
Caroline nodded eagerly, lifting her hips off the bed to allow him to slide the offending material off her legs. His hands roamed across her body, never settling in one place for too long. Caroline was a writhing mess underneath him, his name falling off her tongue effortlessly.
"Klaus," she moaned, back arching off the bed and into his palms that were cupping and massaging her breasts.
"Yes, Caroline?" He purred, her name rolling off his tongue.
"I need you," she whispered.
"I'm all yours, love."
Caroline took that as a sign and took control, pushing him by the shoulders and rolling him over. She now straddled his waist and leaned over and reached into the bedside table. He raised an eyebrow at her in question and she showed him the foil packet. She gave him a quick kiss before tearing into the package and rolling the condom onto his cock.
She pumped it a few times before rising up and positioning his cock at her entrance. She lowered herself slowly onto him.
"God, Caroline," he hissed grabbing onto her hips.
She began to move her hips, slowly at first. Adjusting to his size and reacquainting herself with how he felt inside her. It had been so long since they were together, she had wondered if she really remembered how he felt, but now it was all coming back to her.
Klaus sat up, wrapping his arms around her body to hold her close. It was more intimate as she gazed at him through the darkness and still found the familiar warmth of his eyes.. She moved slowly, his hips greeting her with each thrust. Her lips crashed down onto his, igniting the fire that was already growing in her belly.
Her hands held onto his shoulders, nails digging into his skin. Klaus groaned when she rolled her hips. He pulled away from her lips and his hands, which were still on her hips, tightened and he used his strength to flip them over. Caroline frowned at the loss of contact but her heart leaped at seeing Klaus hovering over her. He gave her an open-mouthed kiss before diving into her again.
A loud moan slipped through her teeth and her body arched off the bed. He pulled almost all the way out before he thrust back into her, slightly harder this time. He repeated the action several times, keeping the same rhythm.
Caroline raked her nails down his back, her heels digging into his thighs. He was nestled into the crook of her neck, breathing hard against her shoulder as he quickened his movements. He was surrounded by her smell, a toxic mix of perfume and her body that drove him insane. He basked in it.
He was torn from his delicious thoughts by Caroline screaming his name, her walls clenching around him as she rode out her orgasm. Klaus followed closely behind with his own release and groaning her name.
He collapsed on top of her, his arms resting on either side of her head. She smiled in the dark, forehead lined with a sheen of sweat, her body relaxed in utter post-orgasm bliss.
He kissed her. It was soft and gentle, their lips barely touching as he pecked her lips.
After a while, Klaus rolled off her and pulled Caroline into his side. She gave his shoulder a kiss before resting her head on his chest. He rubbed her back and held her to him. They just laid there, neither talking but relishing in the warmth of one another.
Bonnie wasn't sure what she had gotten herself into. Rebekah claimed her as one of her bridesmaids, along with Katherine and Caroline, and now she was regretting allowing Rebekah rope her into such a duty. She was supposed to be babysitting Nate but Rebekah said she needed her to help with some wedding plans since it wasless than a month away.
So that's how Bonnie found herself at Rebekah's apartment, sitting at her kitchen table with Esther, Katherine and Rebekah and thousands of papers and magazines littering the table top. Rebekah had wanted soft purples and pinks for her wedding, but that was back when it was supposed to be at the end of summer. Her wedding was now going to be in the fall, surely those colours wouldn't work. Now they were on the hunt for perfect fall colours.
Bonnie was absentmindedly flipping through a wedding magazine, wishing Caroline was there to share the torture and listening to Esther and Rebekah fight. Bonnie rolled her eyes and muttered under her breathe to Katherine, "I swear if she doesn't choose a colour soon, I'm going to kill her."
Katherine chuckled, "I don't see why she doesn't just go with the pink and purple."
Rebekah perks up at the comment, turning her attention to the two who were talking behind her back. "I will not have pink and purple in my fall wedding! Fall colours are reds and oranges, not pink and certainly not purple!"
Esther placed a hand on Rebekah's forearm, calming her down. "How about gold?"
Katherine bolted upwards, reaching across the table for a magazine. She flipped it open to the desired page, knowing exactly where to go, and shoved it in front of Rebekah. "Or an off-white/peach and plum for your colours?"
Rebekah looked down to the open page, seeing a table arrangement with an assortment of flowers ranging in colour from plum to peach and gold accents.
Bonnie leaned forward, admiring the picture Rebekah was staring at. "That looks really amazing."
Rebekah smiles slowly, liking the possibilities of the colours presented to her. "I think I like plum and a pale peach. What do you think?" She questioned, turning towards her mother who sat beside her.
"Sounds perfect. Now what kind of flowers?"
The four talked into the night, about colour schemes for flowers and what type of flowers Rebekah wanted. When Bonnie and Katherine left Rebekah's house, heading back towards Katherine's apartment where the boys were, Rebekah had chosen the centerpieces and flower arrangements.
Bonnie hadn't ever really talked to Katherine, but she always seemed like a nice person, Caroline loved her. She looked over at the brunette, walking in her black heels, flawlessly. "When are you due?" Bonnie questioned, noticing the rise of her baby bump through her black maternity dress.
Katherine placed a slender hand on her bump, smiling over at Bonnie. "December 24th."
"A Christmas baby!" She exclaimed happily.
"Yeah," she agreed. "We're excited."
"Do you know the gender?"
Katherine shook her head, "we want it to be a surprise."
Bonnie nodded, "what do you want it to be?"
"Healthy," the brunette replied with a small smile.
"I think Kol was aiming for a nephew."
Katherine rolled her eyes, "of course he was. I think Elijah wants a little girl."
Bonnie hummed in approval, "baby girl Mikaelson would be adorable!"
The two chatted the rest of the way to the apartment about the possibility of having a girl. Katherine stated that she'd want to put her in ballet or dance when she reached the appropriate age, something both her and Elijah agreed on. Bonnie smiled and listened along, getting excited with Katherine at the impending baby's arrival.
When they reached the apartment, they found the guys in the living room all with a beer in their hands. Bonnie and Katherine each greeted the men before wandering to the nursery, expecting to see what the guys had accomplished. Only when they reached the room, it was in the same state they had left it.
Katherine shrieked at the beige walls of the room. They were supposed to be a soft green. She stomped back into the living room, Elijah looked guiltily down at his hands while both Stefan and Kol sprung up off the couch. "I take that as our cue to go," Kol said, grabbing onto Bonnie's hand and dragging her out of the apartment with Stefan hot on her heels.
Katherine placed her hands on her hips, staring down her husband. "What happened to painting the nursery tonight?"
Elijah couldn't meet her eyes, knowing how angry his wife was. "The power went out, we couldn't paint in the dark."
She just raised an eyebrow, "well what about when it came back on? You just decided to watch television instead?"
"Well the game was on and Kol said that you'd be back soon and there was no point in starting."
"So you listened to Kol? Since when do you listen to Kol?" She questioned, her voice raising as her patience thinned.
Elijah shrugged. "It'll get done."
Katherine laughed, "you're damn right it'll get done. But now you'll be working on it all by yourself, no help form your brothers who clearly only distract you from the task at hand."
He nodded solemnly and stood up to walk over to her. Elijah reached out, cupping her face. "I'm sorry, I listened to Kol."
Katherine looked up into his eyes and softened. She could never stay mad at him for long. She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug. "It's alright, I know you'll get it done. These hormones are making me crazy."
Elijah chuckled and kissed the top of her head. "Ready to go to bed?"
Katherine nodded, leading her away to the bedroom.
Caroline sat cross legged on the bed wearing Klaus' shirt and chewing on the crust from a slice of pizza they had ordered earlier. Klaus laid beside her on the bed, his eyes closed.
Something vibrated on the bedside table and Klaus reached over to grab it, realizing it was his phone. He held it out in front of him, sliding the unlock button to check the incoming message. It was a rather late work related message so he closed it and promised himself that he would reply later.
Caroline looked up at the device, reading the time on the phone and shot out of bed. "Is that the time? We have to get back!" She scampered away grabbing at her clothes and throwing them on.
Klaus tried the lamp on his bedside table which still didn't turn on. "The power's still off."
Caroline returned to the bedroom fully dressed and threw his clothes back at him. "And I bet your brother and Nate are going crazy. I can't believe I didn't think of them!"
Klaus rolled off the bed and quickly pulled on his clothes and walked over to Caroline, grabbing her shoulders for her to look at him. "They're fine. It's just a blackout, Henrik will know what to do, he's been through them before."
Caroline nodded but worry was still etched across her face. He leaned forward, capturing her lips in a brief, ensuring kiss. Klaus pulled away, "Its fine."
She took a deep breathe and nodded, "can we go now?"
Klaus chuckled, knowing she was anxious to get home and make sure everything was fine. He followed her out of the apartment and down the streets, struggling to keep up with her.
When they entered the house it looked like a tornado had gone through, the house was a mess. She stepped into the kitchen first, seeing the mess from the front door. When she stepped into the dark room, she found food everywhere. The cupboard doors were open and boxes of food laid open on the counter.
Klaus cursed under his breath. "Caroline-" he began but she threw up her hand to stop him. Giggling was heard throughout the house and the two followed it into the living room.
It was a disaster zone. Toys scattered around the room and a fort set up around the couches. Caroline stepped into the room, careful to avoid any toys that were on the ground and cleared her throat loudly.
Klaus stood silently beside her, not knowing how Caroline was going to react and not wanting to get in the middle of it. His brother was going to get a good talking to on their way home.
Nate came out of the fort first, crawling through the small opening, with Henrik close behind. Nate stood up outside the fort looking rather guilty. A few candles were lit around the room which allowed her to faintly see the chocolate mess around Nate's mouth.
Henrik stared down at his feet, not meeting either of the adults' eyes. He knew he was in trouble for not controlling the chaos or the five year old. He was a terrible baby sitter, but he just didn't know how to entertain the kid and just went along with whatever he wanted.
"What did you guys manage to get into while we were out?" Caroline questioned, not sounding as angry as she thought she was.
Nate smiled, running into her arms. Caroline caught him and picked him up, "Henrik played lots of games with me, and we even played hide and go seek! Then the power went out and we built a fort and ate ice cream or else it would have all melted!"
"Wow! That sounds like lots of fun," she commented.
Nate turned his attention to Klaus, "did you have fun on your date?"
Klaus smiled, "yes, it was fun even if the power went out."
"Do you want some ice cream? There's lots left!"
Caroline chuckled and shook her head. "No thank you and I think you've had enough tonight. It's past your bed time."
Nate frowned and gave her his best puppy dog eyes. "I don't wanna go to bed."
"Nate," she warned. He dropped his head and nodded, giving in. Caroline put him on the ground, "go say goodnight."
He obliged, giving Henrik a hug first, "thank you for babysitting me, it was fun, you have to do it again." Then he moved to Klaus and gave him a big hug and kissed his cheek. "Night," he whispered.
"Good night, Mate," Klaus said, smiling down at the boy and ruffled his hair.
"I'm just going to say goodbye to Klaus and Henrik and I'll be up in a minute, you go get ready for bed," Caroline ordered.
Nate followed instructions, slowly making his way up the stairs.
Henrik stepped forward from his place by the fort, "Caroline, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for it to get so out of hand but-"
Caroline smiled and held up her hand stopping him. "Its fine, I know my son, he's a terror. One time Kol and him got into a cookie dough fight in Bonnie's apartment."
Henrik laughed, picturing the incident.
"We'll help you clean up," Klaus said, moving to go start and take down the fort.
Caroline grabbed his hand to stop him, "it's fine, I'll get Nate to help clean it up tomorrow."
He nodded and gave in, "Alright."
Caroline turned to Henrik, "thank you for babysitting, Henrik, I really appreciate it."
The teenager smiled, "No problem, it was fun."
Caroline turned into Klaus, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I had fun tonight, thank you."
Klaus smiled, leaning down and capturing her lips. "I still owe you dinner."
She laughed, her eyes sparkled in the candle light. "You do. Another time?"
"Absolutely." He replied, leaning in for another kiss.
Before they could get carried away, Henrik cleared his throat from beside him. Klaus pulled away and looked over at his brother while Caroline blushed.
Klaus kissed her cheek and whispered into her ear, "I'll see you tomorrow, Caroline."
She nodded, not even questioning that she was seeing him again so soon. Caroline walked the two to the door and held it open for them. "Thank you again, Henrik."
The boy nodded, "it was nice seeing you again, Caroline."
She gave him a smile. Klaus gave her one quick kiss on her forehead and followed Henrik out of the house. Caroline smiled as she watched them as they walked down the pathway, already in conversation and laughing. She closed the door and took a look around the messy house, promising herself that she'll tackle the kitchen after Nate is asleep, before making her way up to her son's room.
When she entered the room, he was already in bed and under his covers. "Did you have fun tonight?"
He smiled brightly at her, "yeah! Henrik is almost as fun as Kol."
She smiled down at him, "I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."
"Did you have fun, mommy?"
"I did," Caroline replied honestly, a small smile for Klaus playing on her lips as she thought back to her date.
Nate yawned and gave her a sleepy nod, "good. I like Klaus."
"Me too," she agreed.
Nate's eyes fluttered and he fought to stay awake, his sugar high earlier in the night quickly wearing off. Caroline noticed and pulled the covers up around his chin and tucked him in. "Good night, my boy." She whispered and kissed the top of his head.
"Night," he whispered before his eyes shut and he was asleep.
Caroline sighed, watching him for a second before retreating out of the room and closed the door behind her. She made her way down to the kitchen and couldn't contain her smile as she cleaned up the mess.
