Small scars littered the smooth skin of his hands. Something that could give such gentle pleasure, was also used to bring harsh pain. His fingers were long, and tanned to a golden perfection. His middle finger had been broken before, and now was slightly crooked. His nails were cut short, but he never bit them. Chloe could describe every part of his hand. How it can curl into a ball almost as quickly as it can move a strand of her hair behind her ear, how he can flash his claws on one hand if needed or how he's left handed but wrote neater with his right. If Chloe was talented in the art of drawing her muse and her art work would be attempts at recreating his hands.
"Chloe?" Alek whispered, his hand was drawing abstract designs on her arm. They were at the party, on time and dressed to impress. She had met plenty of people, but if someone asked her to point names to faces her mind would fill a blank.
"Chloe?" He whispered louder now, his lips barely grazing her ear making her shiver. Smiling shyly Chloe moved in Alek's embrace to face him.
"You seem distracted," he says slowly. Her cheeks turn a bright pink almost instantly. His hands had been distracting her all night. When they sat down his hands would wander from her hip down to her knee, and the slowly painfully slow he would drag his finger in a barely there touch a long her thigh. His face was always blank as he did this, and after a few minutes of this Chloe would insist they move around and talk to more nameless faces. But then even standing, even in the view of all important Mai's Alek's hands wouldn't stop their wandering and soft caresses.
"I'm not," she whispered back, harshly.
Moving out of his embrace, something she should've done awhile ago, and towards the beverage section. Leaning down she grabbed a small glass filled with what was most likely champagne.
"Are you sure?" Alek's voice asks from behind her. His hard chest is right against her back, his arms made there away around her trapping her in with palms flat against the table. His scent filled her senses, all she smelt was his unique scent, all she felt was his light breath on her neck, and all she heard was his steady heart beat.
"Stop," she hisses, throwing her head back and drinking all the champagne in one gulp. Bad move on her part, as his body moves closer into her as she arched back when emptying the glass.
"What?" He asks with false confusion.
"This," she's replies, roughly grabbing one of the arms entrapping her and moving it away from her so she can slide out.
"Touching you?" He asks slowly, a small grin making it's way onto his plump lips.
"Yeah," she says insecure now. People were chatting around her, some most likely watching her with hungry eyes. Reminder her that she wasn't alone with Alek, and they couldn't scream this problem out. It shocked her straight to her core that one measly brush of Alek's fingertips to her skin could make her completely forget about her surroundings.
She quickly stalks to the ballrooms door, moving past the bleached smiles, and quirked eyebrows.
Once outside the building Chloe slows her pace, the air warm, and the wind nowhere to be seen.
"I don't think you really want me to."
"God, Alek we can't. Don't do this, don't ruin our friendship." Chloe says spinning around. Alek stood there arms loose at his side, his feet spread apart, his height for some reason seemed at the moment more overbearing and she had to tilt her head at him. She pouted her lips at his set jaw, and persistent eyes.
"I'm not."
"It will though. It won't last."
"Why not?" He asks, his lean frame moving closer to her, like a jaguar trapping it's prey.
"Because were playing along into the lie, and yeah sure it feels so real but-"
"But nothing, the feelings, the want is still there."
"Yeah but-"
"No buts just give in," he whispers. Somehow he's closer than before, one more step and he'd be breathing her air, one more step and she doesn't know if she can control herself.
"To what, my animal side? It's the stupid bite mark that's making us like this." She argues halfheartedly.
"Don't tell me now you didn't feel this," he begins but Chloe quickly cuts him off frustrated. Can't he see she's saving them from more heartache.
"Connection? Yes, but that's why we are such good friends."
"You want us to be like before?" He says slowly, inching closer to her.
"Yes, no. I don't but we have to." She says looking into his eyes, begging, pleading for him to let it go.
"Why?" He whispers, his fingers reach out gently tilting her face up by her soft chin.
"Because then no one gets hurt," she says closing her eyes, her mind fighting with her to not let him kiss her, because once he does she won't be able to fight it, not anymore.
"Chloe, you realize before is the same as now." He says quietly, his lips hovering over hers, not touching but she can feel their warmth, almost taste him.
"No it isn't," she says. Eyes still screwed shut.
"It is but now I'm not scared to touch you, because I know you want me the way I want you." His lips still a ghost over hers, his breath is her breath, and her minds is becoming hazy. When he's this close to her she can't remember why she's fighting it, what heartbreak is. Slowly she feels his hold on her face loosen in till he's not caressing her cheeks anymore, but faintly dragging his fingers down the column of her neck and towards the dark mark he placed on her soft warm shoulder. His breath becomes hotter the closer it gets to her skin, and the next thing she knows his lips are on her shoulder, placing small warm and loving kisses onto the mark.
"It doesn't matter, when the bite wears off." She stutters, barely able to keep herself up. He's hardly touching her but every touch, every movement, and ever breath she can feel on her skin.
"I'll still want you, I have wanted you," he says backing up now. Her body sways a bit, before she catches her self and clears her mind of unwanted thoughts, "are you saying-"
"Nothing, but this bite effects us more than we-" she begins.
"No it just helped you come clean with what you want and feel. Sure everything's more intense but it wouldn't be like that if the feelings weren't there before." He tells her, taking another step back. He's clearing the clouds surrounding her mind.
"When'd you become an expert huh? You obviously didn't know anything when you bit me." Her tone comes out harsher then she attended but the fact of the matter is that she's right. He's using his touch knowing how hard it's is for her, trying to get her to surrender.
"I know, I know I'm sorry."
"I know you are, but now I have to get back to the party."
"Son"
"Yes father?"
"I overheard something very interesting."
"Something to do about our uniter?"
"Most definitely."
"Are you going to share?"
"If my plans don't go as foreseen. But for now go introduce yourself to the Uniter, and her lapdog."
Nothing had changed once they'd entered the ballroom again. They had played the loving couple, just mated, and a few months married. The touches were all for show now, nothing behind them spurred the blank mind, and clouded eyes this time around. Many Mai's approached them asking about their life, and how enjoyable it was. They talked and talked, convincing the people that they where most definitely in love. Announcements and cheers were made through out the night. There was talk about many people, the younger ones, leaving their pride to come join the small numbers of the West Virginia pride. Surprisingly enough Chloe actually enjoyed the party, she enjoyed the guest and laughing at the outrageous things they told her. Although the circumstances in which she had to attend the party were not ones she quite enjoyed she still found that she liked being in the same vicinity of a lot of Mai's. She felt normal, sometimes she even felt more human something that she wanted and tried to feel for so long.
Almost an hour left of the party, and Chloe could feel a horrible headache coming on. Alek had left to talk to some of the males that were outside smoking. She had warned him not to come back smelling like smoke, he had laughed, kissed her cheek and went on his way. It had only been five minutes and she was already missing him terribly.
Walking away from the ongoing party, she found her way towards a darken hallway. Her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting before stalking down the hall and towards what look like a broom closet. Groaning in pain her head began pounding.
Jiggling the door knob, an attempt to get away from the loud noise, she found it was locked. Before she could turn around she saw the shadow of a tall man behind her.
"I'm not in the mood Alek, I'm tired."
"Then should I get him and tell him to take the lovely lady home." A clearly American sounding male said. Spinning around almost instantly she assessed the Mai. He was tall, not as fall as Alek, but tall enough that tilting her head upwards was a necessity. His hair was a dark brown, his eyelashes thick and long framing grey cloudy eyes.
"Oh sorry, I didn't know-" she began, stuttering miserably before he cut her off.
"That's fine," he nodded politely. "You seem stressed."
"I am, kinda, I guess, it's just so loud in there." She told him, motioning down the hallway and back to the party. Slowly she makes her way down the hallway and back to the room full of loud chattering people.
"Your pride hasn't taught you how to shut it off?" He asks still following her the beverage table.
"They have but it's-" grabbing a water bottle, unscrewing it and taking a good gulp of it, she continues," still loud."
"Do you want help?" He asks causally. Placing the water bottle on the table, she motions for him to continue.
"Close your eyes," slowly she does. She feels awkward, but wants desperately for the headache to leave, and the noise to lower to an almost mute sound. "Zone in on one thing. Anything."
Suddenly she opens her eyes. She had zoned into something, something that gets jealous easily, and likes fighting. Cringing at how the situation would look from his eyes, she takes a step back.
"Wow it worked, thank you!" She says too cheery. The boy steps closer towards her, his eyebrow raised, the side of his lip quirked in amusement.
"Chloe?" Alek says from behind her. A small smile gracing his lips. She knows he noticed the brown haired boy and his advances into her privacy bubble.
"Alek," she says sweetly before kissing his cheek. He smiles warmly down at her, his hair is all ruffled and adorable and all Chloe wants to do now is run her hands through it and watch him close his eyes in pleasure, and make his cat like purring noises. He moves beside Chloe, causing the boy to take a step back, and wraps his arm around her waist.
She watches Alek arch his eyebrow at the boy questioning who he is.
"Mike," the boy offers sticking his hand out to shake it. Alek does, and she watches as he roughly shakes Mike's hand. Chloe elbows him, causing him to drop Mike's now white hand abruptly.
Standing their awkwardly as Mike stares at Chloe, and Alek glares down at Mike, she decides to end this silence and say "Well Mike it was nice to meet you but me and Alek have to do our goodbye rounds."
"Of course." He says sugary sweet, bending in a bow. "Goodnight princess." He grabs her hand and gently places a kiss on her hand. And them he's gone, walking away into the crowds of people.
Chloe blushes a bright pink. No one has ever called her princess, besides her father and that was at the young age of seven.
Alek notices and mutters "wanker" under his breath, pulling her along to bid their goodbyes.
