~Uryū P.O.V.~
Kisuke had just put the phone down when we arrived at his shop. He seemed a little happier this evening after talking to whoever it was. I've noticed that whenever the phone rang, he would leave the room to answer a specific number. One that he said if it rang and he wasn't there, absolutely do not answer it. I'm not sure why, I mean, it could be anyone, but the number appears every couple days or two weeks. "So, Kisuke, have you found any way to open a senkaimon to find Chris yet?" Ichigo asked. Every time we ask he always says the same thing: "Sorry, I haven't. She's the only one who knows how to open that type of door. Please, be patient."
Something must be funny because we heard Jinta laughing his ass off in other room while Ururu and Tesai reminded him to be quiet. "Is he okay?" Ruckia sounded slightly suspicious, and I don't blame her, Kisuke's been acting strange whenever he answers the phone. "Oh, I'm sure it's nothing. Jinta must have found something hilarious." He answered and waved his fan in front of his face again. After a minute the phone rang. Kisuke looked at the number and answered it curiously, probably wondering what the caller wanted, but just said a simple hello. It must be that number if he's being so familiar.
Though now I'm even more curious-he only gets that number once every few days, and to see him answering it slightly confused must mean he wasn't expecting it. After whoever it was explained their reason for calling, a shocked and worried expression appeared on his face. Kisuke stood, phone in hand, and turned to us. "Sorry but this is very important. I'll be right back." Then he turned and quickly left the room. Silence reigned for a few minutes as we all pondered what could have happened. "Maybe it's one of his customers?" Ichigo stated slowly and crossed his arms, his usual scowl appearing on his face.
"I don't think so. Kisuke looked more concerned, perhaps a friend of his in trouble?" Orihime said quietly as she fiddled with a ribbon in her hand. "Is there something going on in the Soul Society, Rukia?" I asked quietly. Rukia seemed to contemplate my question before shaking her head. "No, not that I know of. Although, the Head Captain is ignoring the incident with Chris, and the new Central Forty-Six is all but relieved." She spat the word relieved like it was poison in her mouth. I know for a fact that Kyoraku and Ukitake are helping us secretly, along with Hitsugaya, and the lieutenants. Being told to consider Chris dead was a stab at all of us.
Dark refused to attend a captains' meeting and drowned himself in his work with his father, who was more cold and closed off after being told to create a death certificate as well. They always left when a Soul Reaper approached them, immediately leaving to investigate murder cases left and right. As far as they were concerned, Chris was missing, and has been for the past two months. "Uryū, can you please come over? I have something I need you to do." Kisuke called cheerfully as he waved me over, fan in hand.
Curious, I stood and followed Kisuke into a room full of medical supplies and watched him start filling a a fairly large briefcase with the supplies. I noticed a few medicine bottles and picked one up-shock overcoming me. "Christine Summers... Doctor Ryūken Ishida... Doctor Kisuke Urahara... Hollowfication..." Were the words I caught as I read the bottle. Kisuke sighed as he saw me reading it and quietly explained as he handed me a list of the medication, affects, and side affects of their contents.
"That time you went to save Rukia from her execution, Chris used her bankai more times than she was supposed to in one day. As a result, when all of you returned and were told that Eevee had been sent to the hospital... Uryū, please understand, that night Chris disappeared... She was losing control of her inner hollow in her anger, and it's taking its toll on her. The bracelet you see her wearing is to help control the hollow and prevent it from taking over in situations like that one. Has been for the past eleven years." I handed the medicine bottle back as he sighed and watched him place it in with a few more bottles.
If Chris was suffering because of her own powers, then why didn't she tell us? I wanted to ask but didn't, seeing as the others were also waiting for an explanation. "I lied. About the senkaimon." Kisuke stated as he handed me a messenger bag after placing the briefcase inside. Shocked, I looked inside, to find that the messenger bag was actually very spacious.
"Your only able to enter one way. Once you go through you won't be able to step over anymore. Chris has been trying to find a way back, for her and her friend, Edward Elric. He is from a world where alchemy reigns supreme and their technology is beyond ours. I need you to make sure she doesn't do this again. They a school wide spar in which they were forced to demonstrate their abilities in order to silence their government. Resurrección seems to be having the same affect now." Hearing that I knew it was starting to get bad. I can't believe we didn't notice!
As I was busy berating myself, Kisuke handed me a small remote that would open a senkaimon resembling the one Chris always opened and sent me home to pack. Seeing me with a bag and on my way out was obviously not what Ichigo and the others were expecting, and they immediately jumped up to question me. "Where are you going?" Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, and Rukia asked loudly as Yoruichi appeared in cat form and jumped onto Ichigo's head.
"Kisuke needs him to investigate undercover at a boarding school. It's called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He needs to see if their spells can be used by us for defense, since that's what they are. He will also be a teacher and force them to exercise." She stated matter of factly as Kisuke practically pushed me out the door. "Indeed he is. Now, you must be off if you're to arrive on time. Bye Uryū!" He called cheerfully and sent Yoruichi with me. Dazed, I make my way home with Yoruichi explaining more about what Chris was doing.
"Time passes much faster in that world. When Chris first called she said it had been ten years since disappearing. We were confused, explained that it had only been one month, and she stopped calling for a while. That's why we need to call on our time to remind her we're still here. You would have to call every few days in that world." The time difference is incredibly drastic if years went by for them. I entered my apartment and started to pack as much as I could, along with my Quincy clothes. When I finished, I changed into a white suit and blue tie. "Now I really look like him." I muttered and pulled out the remote and opened the senkaimon.
After I entered I appeared in a room and saw a short blonde who could be around sixteen and a pale girl lying under the bed covers. I immediately walked over and saw that it was Chris, then took out the medicine Kisuke entrusted me with and started checking her vitals. "I take it you're Uryū Ishida? Chris told me a lot about your guys' adventures." The blonde stated as he relaxed from his fighting stance and stood a little closer. "I am. Kisuke explained a bit about what happened. I'd like to get to know you better later, but I was told that you two have a class to teach. I'll help while I can, don't hesitate to ask." I replied calmly and turned to see him look relieved at offer and turned to leave.
"I have to inform the headmaster that Chris won't be in class for awhile. I'll send you two some food. And if someone dressed entirely in pink and looks like a toad tries to get in, the picture of Sirēne Harpy will tell you." He called over his shoulder, then stopped and turned to motion to the laptop on the nightstand. "If you need to check some surveillance or any backgrounds, Chris placed a few mirrors she enchanted in some classrooms, preferably in the defense class, as the students are starting to rebel against their teacher unnoticed." He smiled mischievously as he left and I caught a glimpse of a portrait with Gouteki na Harpy and Chris' inner world.
I saw Amethyst crying on his shoulder and turned back to my "patient" when the door closed. She was beginning to look pale, unhealthily so, and took gasping breaths as she slept. Her skin was practically on fire and her spiritual pressure was fluctuating dangerously. Reading through the instructions on the medicine bottle, I stood and walked over to the bathroom that was left wide open and took a glass from one of the cabinets by the bookshelf.
As I filled the glass with water I noticed something red on the counter. Looking closely I saw it was blood. I cursed and quickly made my way back to Chris and took out two red pills before a voice spoke up. "Hmm? Uryū? What are you doing here?" Chris asked tiredly as sat up, wincing slightly in pain. "Kisuke explained when your friend called a few minutes ago-or, I guess it was longer here. I was about to ask him about you when he sent me here. How do you feel?" I explained and handed her the red pills and water, watching her carefully as she swallowed them slowly.
"Like I'm being burned. Slowly. How are you, Uryū? Damn witch." Chris replied, muttering the last part quietly as she slowed her breathing. "I'm alright. Worried when I was told that you could possibly die." I started scolding her gently about not telling us sooner, to concerned to be angry. "I'm sorry. I didn't want you guys to worry." She answered and looked towards the door, an annoyed look in her eyes. I knew there were people outside and had a feeling it was the staff.
We jumped as a loud crack exploded next to me and watched as Chris, who really should be resting, jumped from her bed and held her hand over the man's eyes and growled at him. "Inemuri!" The man collapsed, asleep, and Chris held a hand over her mouth and clutched her stomach with the other, immediately running to the bathroom and weakly closing the door. The door was still open an or two when I heard Chris start gagging and throwing up.
I looked at the man on the ground and slowly dragged him to the portrait, I sped as I heard Chris whimper in pain and practically threw him out. "Chris is not feeling well, don't bother her and don't come back until you actually see her outside this room." I stated coldly and quickly. A woman who really did resemble a toad and dressed in so much pink even Yachiru would disapprove of with an arrogant air around her walked up to me.
"I demand to see Professor Mousy! She knows the rules of brining men to the school, especially when her arrogance last night put the students in danger!" The toad woman said angrily as a demented glee appeared in her eyes while another professor and a nurse looked over the unconscious man I had dragged out. At first I was confused about what she was talking about, then my mind finally processed her words, and I figured that if Ed arrived and told the headmaster Chris wasn't going to be able to teach for awhile because she was sick, the remaining staff and students demanded questions and answers he couldn't answer properly.
I felt my face heat up as I replied to the witch's accusation. "How dare you! Chris isn't that kind of girl, and neither am I that kind guy! I'm one of her best friends as well as her doctor. I am here because I was told that she had gotten terribly ill, and I highly doubt that even your best healers could help her. As I understand it, you all have classes to teach, do you not? Good day." They looked quite offended when I said they wouldn't be able to help, but I couldn't care less.
I walked back inside and watched the portrait door close, my irritation fading as I went to check on Chris, who had become quiet other then her deep breaths. When I got to the door, I understood just how dangerous the situation had become if Kisuke himself wasn't able to take care of her and not return for more supplies. She was throwing up a lot of blood, and had only managed to rinse it off of her and the floor before closing the toilet lid and leaning on the cold wall. She looked incredibly pale and her eyes were shut tightly. I really hope Ed can convince the school to not visit. Otherwise Chris will be forced to be admitted to a hospital, and I don't know much about this world yet.
