The rest of the group fills in around us. Sam and Six hug for a solid minute before Six breaks free and says. "We really need to catch up now."
"Yeah. We do." Nine says in a caustic tone. He stood rigid as he glared at the addition to our group. "What's the Mog doing here."
Malcolm puts his hand on Adam's shoulder as Adam stares back at Nine impassively, a white moth flutters and lands on Adam's other shoulder. "This is Adam, he is the one who risked his life to save Sam and I."
Nine frowns even deeper, but both Six and Marina's eyebrows rise with surprise.
"And?" Nine pushes in a dead tone.
There is about a ten foot distance between Adam and Nine. I take a step so that I am in the middle of them leaving Sarah with Six. "And he is going to be helping us against Setrakus Ra."
Nine tilts his head. "No kidding? You really think this will work?"
He's playing me and I am too naïve to catch it. "Just hear what he's done already, Adam's gonna make everything a hell of a lot easier."
Nine laughs and shakes his head. "Have you gone soft in the head? Where is your f****** common sense? And please tell me, am I just imagining things Johnny or was it not you who fought with us back when we were KILLING them not keeping them as pets?!"
"Alright, alright calm down." I lift up my hands.
"You're seriously telling me to calm down?" Nine sneers incredulously. "I think you need to get your f****** priorities straight dude."
Six takes a step outward. "I think what Nine is trying ever so delicately to say is, what the hell is wrong with you?"
"Let me explain-."
"Explain what?" Nine growls. "There is no damn way it's coming with us. I think you've been staring at your lumen for too f****** long because there is seriously no other explanation for why you are too blind to see all of the red flags here."
Marina waves her hand. "Do you have any idea how ridiculous this sounds?"
I turn and give her a level, but pleading look. "Yes, I do. It sounds like a huge risk, but it isn't. Just listen to his story."
"I don't want to even look at him." Nine glares right at him anyway. "The only time I want see a Mogadorian is when he is a pile of ash, I don't need to hear its voice to know where I can put my foot."
"I don't think you know what you sound like right now?" Six shakes her head. "I know you weren't there, but if you haven't noticed—we can't even trust one of our own numbers John. What makes you think we can trust a Mogadorian?"
Nine laughs incredulously, his huge arms crossed over his puffed out chest. Sam and Malcolm stand on either side of Adam who has both of his hands clenched to his side, he looks incredibly uncomfortable. Six, Marina, and Nine form a dented circle around me. Sarah is several feet to the right of me with her hand clasped over her mouth. The fact that everyone is distressed makes me anxious to get everything back to normal. I can't seem to find a way to make Nine listen to me. Everything is really going downhill faster than I can manage. I need to get them to at least hear me out, or to let Adam tell them for himself. When Marina opens her mouth to say something I switch my sight from Six to her. Not sure what to expect this time.
"Wait." She says flatly. "Let's just…hear what he has to say."
I feel deep gratitude for Marina right now, maybe it's not a change of heart but it's something.
Nine glares and Six closes her eyes and pinches the bridge of her nose. Nine scoffs. "Are you kidd-."
"JUST, let him talk." I don't know what gives Marina an open mind, but I hope it's contagious. Her voice still carries a flat tone. "Go ahead John, tell us what you've got."
Suddenly it's very quiet, but what the area lacks in sound it packs in tension.
"Thank you Marina." I try to stand taller, but in a position that says that I just want peace. "You guys remember what Malcolm told us at dinner about a week ago? He told us about a Mogadorian who helped them both escape being imprisoned, he collapsed a prison and helped Malcolm and Sam get free. He's done so much leading him to be here even practically destroying his entire neighborhood of Mogs and going against his entire life style to help out the Garde. There is so much to him, so much that I am fully convinced that he can really make a difference in this war."
I see that Nine's deep grimace has somewhat softened to a mild scowl. He starts to clap slowly. "Beautiful speech bro, Mog traitor for president. Inspirational, hell I'm so inspired I think I'll just tie my hands and feet and have you float me right up to Setrakus Ra's smelly a** feet. Anyone else?"
I can feel myself quickly losing it. Nine never ceases to amaze me in his levels of D*** Headedness. I take in a deep breath.
"Believe it or not, I understand what I am asking of you, of all of you. I know that we have been fighting them our entire lives, but think about it, Adam was raised by Mogs, he's lived here just as long as they have been here. For the first time we have an advantage."
Slowly, Six shakes her head. "We thought finding Five was an advantage, more numbers, more power and look how that turned out. We took one step forward and three steps back…One step for every Garde that we lost, Five, Eight and Ella. After everything that's happened to us, to use 'advantage' to describe him, that's a very bad thing to do."
I feel my position deteriorating. Six is right in her logic and if you peel back all of the sarcasm, so is Nine. After all the s*** we've been through how can I even hope that they will let accept Adam into our team. In my heart I feel like we can trust Adam, I feel like he is the key we've been missing. Yet, perhaps if I had seen Eight die maybe I would be the same way. Yet, I still can't let them turn away from this.
Marina is the only one not looking at me, her jaw is set tightly. I can still see her eyes and it looks like she is fighting an inner battle.
"All I am saying." I say finally. "Is that we need to keep an open mind, we can't do this on our own anymore."
"An open mind?" Nine growls. "How the hell is an open mind going to do anything?" In three long strides Nine is less than a foot away, I have to look up at him as he glares down at me. Now I'm worried. I can smell swamp and sweat and it nearly knocks me out. "Let's just let our guard down guys, that'll give us an 'advantage' we'll just let a Mogadorian hang out with us and tell us where to go and trust that he isn't leading us straight to our deaths!"
I feel anger coursing through me like a current. "Hey! I never said we were going to let our guard down. Your twisting my words Nine. I may not have been in Florida with you, but I've still seen enough to know about danger." My voice is louder, but I'm trying hard not to yell. Sometime when I wasn't looking Sam had moved over to where Sarah was standing and put an arm around her shoulder.
"Really, have you Johnny? Because I get the notion you were born yesterday or maybe you are just getting f****** desperate now."
"This isn't an act of being desperate. It's a battle plan."
"It's plain stupid is what it is!"
"I want to win this war as much as you do, Nine. I want us to bring back Lorien, Just like you I want every stupid Mog OFF THIS PLANET ONLY I DON'T CARE HOW THEY GO!"
"THEN WHAT MAKES THIS F***ER ANY F****** DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER F****** SON OF A B**** MOGADORIAN. WHY THE F*** IS HE STILL ALIVE!"
"Hey stop yelling," Six tries to push us off each other and neither of us budge.
"I'M TRYING TO TELL YOU THAT BUT YOU ONLY EVER HEAR WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR!"
"I THINK I HEAR YOU JUST FINE, IT'S YOU WHO CAN'T HEAR HIMSELF!"
"IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM, I'M GOING TO LET HIM TELL US WHAT HE KNOWS IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT THEN YOU CAN GET THE HELL OVER IT!"
Nine pokes me with his index finger. "Then you and your Mog and whoever the hell else wants to play host can find their own way around because there is no way IN HELL THAT IT'S GETTING IN MY VAN!"
Maybe it's the tension, maybe it's Nine' face, maybe it's the fact that Nine's stabbing me with his finger, but I am pushed to the edge of my patience. I've never wanted to punch him in the face more than in this moment alone. My hands warm up and my lumen activates. My adrenaline is running so high that I can't even think anymore. Nine see's my legacy at work and his eyes narrow and he gets ready.
"No, not now!" Six is pissed. "You two need to stop acting like girls."
Nine ignores Six and takes a step closer. "Am I going to have to beat you're a** again John boy?"
"Break it up." Marina hisses and I feel frost creeping up my legs and arms, crystalizing the perspiration.
"Sam." I call. "Get Sarah and move away from here."
Sarah gasps. "John no-."
"Sarah, just go. Take her Sam."
"We're not going anywhere." Sam says stoically. "You two need to snap out of it!"
I look at Nine. "You want to snap out of it Nine?"
"If something is snapping it won't be me."
Nine's eyebrows raise with amusement. I'll make sure to burn them off. Marina can heal him if she chooses to. I'm going all out.
"Sam. Go!"
Sam stays put, but then I hear him mutter to Sarah. Her eyes glisten and her nose is red, but she leaves with Sam.
"Marina!" Six calls across us to Marina. "Help me grab them."
I feel an invisible hand wrap its arms around me I wriggle but can't get free. I see Nine tense up too.
"Let me go Six!" I shout.
Nine laughs and looks at Marina. "Just let us fight sweetheart. It'll be over soon."
"Shut up Nine!" Six hisses.
"Yeah, shut up Nine." I sneer, but it only makes me feel like a baby now. I really do need to shut up.
Nine closes his eyes and exhorts his arms and legs outward. I see Marina struggle to keep her grip. I try to get free too but either I am too weak or Six is too strong. I feel myself being moved backwards.
"Let me go Six!"
"Not until you can grow the hell up, don't let go Marina!"
"I won't!" Marina strains.
"Cut it out!" I hear Sarah call. I hope she is far enough away. As soon as Nine's out he's going to barrel into me and I can only hope Six will be able to keep up the wall or at least drop me and move.
Nine breaks free and as soon as his feet hit the ground he bolts right for me.
"STOP!" One of the girls screeches, but he is about to lunge. I feel Six's grip release and my Lumen is already lighting up the area around us. All of this happens in less than a second, but I was ready for it.
Nine never even touches me, he is knocked back about five feet and slides on the ground while the rest of us are just knocked off our feet. Slow vibrations shake the ground and we all lay there, stunned. Even Nine.
What the hell just happened?
Oh yeah, Adam.
Lemon~Moon
Good morning ya'll! I wrote the chapter this way because I wanted to give Adam an epic introduction, he's one of my favorite characters and I can't wait to see how he is used in this fanfiction and in the actual book. It seems rather exciting to me.
Once again thankyou for the reviews and thank you so much for your support.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday!
