Chapter Four

It had been a year that the Sohma's and Tohru returned from Feudal Japan and everything went back to normal. Kyo and Yuki were always fighting. Shigure kept getting beat up by Yuki and Kyo for being perverted. Hatsuharu kept trying to get Yuki's affection. The only thing that was different was that Akito was no longer with them. The Sohma's who didn't go to Feudal Japan were still a bit sick, but it wasn't as bad as before, meaning a new God had been born.

One day, Hatori showed up at Shigure's house unexpectedly while Shigure was working on his latest novel with his editor breathing down his neck. Yuki was the one to open the door, "Oh, Hatori! This is a surprise!" he exclaimed, "Come in! Shigure is just working on his novel, but I'll let him know that you're here."

"Thank you, Yuki. But I cannot stay long. I'll just tell you why I'm here then you can tell the others," said Hatori in his cold voice.

"Oh alright," replied Yuki, feeling a bit confused.

"I want all of you to come to Sohma House tomorrow evening. It's important that you're all there. When everyone is gathered, I will tell everyone what is going on. Bring Tohru as well," said Hatori. At that, he turned on his heel and started walking back towards the car.

Yuki closed the door, feeling even more confused. He wished he could talk to Sango, but that was impossible. He sighed, but then remembered that Lady Kaede had given each of them a shard of a jewel. What had she said about it again? Yuki's eyebrows knitted together as he tried to remember what she had said. Then he finally remembered.

If ye want to see yer lovers here, all ye need to do is think of their face and ye will be brought here again, without having to go through the Bone-Eaters Well.

Yuki took the jewel out of his pocket and closed his eyes. He thought of Sango and her friendly smile. He thought of her long silky black hair blowing in the wind as she rode on the back of Kirara. And finally, he thought of her brown eyes that were always full of love and passion.

He felt himself spinning as if he were going through a portal and after about a minute, he fell backwards on his ass, sitting outside of Kaede's Village. He stood up and rubbed his behind before starting to walk. His feet led him to the hut that Lady Kaede lived in and he stopped outside when he heard voices.

"WILL YOU QUIT FONDLING ME, YOU LECHEROUS MONK?!" yelled Sango's voice. Yuki winced as he heard the sound of a hand on skin and knew that Shigure's boyfriend had just gotten slapped again. He knocked on the wooden door frame.

"Hello? May I come in?" he asked politely. It got silent in the hut and then Yuki heard commotion inside. Sango moved the blanket that was the door and her eyes widened when she saw Yuki.

"Hello, Sango," said Yuki quietly. Tears filled Sango's eyes and she threw her arms around Yuki's neck, turning him into a half demon with rat ears, little claws, black eyes, and a rat's tail. He hugged her back tightly, "I've missed you," he whispered.

"I missed you, too, Yuki," she whispered back.

"Yuki! This is quite the surprise!" exclaimed Miroku, walking out of the house. He had a bright red hand print on his right cheek and Yuki smiled a bit.

"Hello, Miroku. How have you been? How has your life been without your Wind Tunnel?" asked Yuki, smiling at the monk.

"It's…strange to say the least. I'm still getting used to the fact that I no longer have it as a weapon," he replied, frowning.

"Welcome back, Yuki-san," said a voice behind him. He turned around to see Lady Kaede, "I see that ye have figured out how to use the shard of the Shikon Jewel that I gave ye."

"Yes, Lady Kaede," he replied, smiling.

"Why don't ye come inside and I will make us some lunch," said Kaede, walking into the house.

Sango, Miroku, and Yuki followed her inside. Once in the hut, Miroku turned to Yuki, "How are things on your end? Have you told the rest of your family about your God?" he asked.

"No…not yet. And we haven't heard anything about a new God being born yet, but one must have been born because the rest of my family are getting better," he replied quietly.

"I see…well that's good then, right?"

"Yes, I suppose."

"And how is Shigure doing?"

Yuki smiled, "He's doing well. When I left, he was working on his latest novel that was supposed to already be in. When we got back, his editor was outside our door crying and saying she was in hell," he chuckled at the memory.

Miroku looked surprised, "He's a writer?"

"Yes, didn't you know that?"

"No, he never mentioned anything to me about that," said Miroku, frowning again. Yuki was about to reply, but suddenly they heard a commotion outside.

"I don't know why the hell you're so upset! I told you already that it was an accident!" exclaimed a very angry voice.

"An accident? Yeah right! That was totally on purpose!" replied a female voice angrily.

"Why would I do that to you purposely when I already have a…someone that I care for?" demanded the male voice.

"Ugh! Just shut up and SIT!" There was a crash and everything was silent.

Yuki recognized the voices of Kagome and Inuyasha. When they fought, they were almost as bad as himself and Kyo.

"They're at it again," Sango sighed.

"Yes, I wonder what Inuyasha did this time," replied Miroku.

Kagome came storming inside the hut, her face red with anger. She had the little fox demon, Shippo, on her shoulder. When Shippo saw Yuki, a big smile came across his face.

"YUKI!" exclaimed Shippo, jumping onto Yuki's shoulder instead. Kagome looked shocked to see Yuki there, all of her anger seemingly draining away. Inuyasha came in and pushed past Kagome, muttering to himself angrily. Yuki only caught the word "Over-reacting".

"What did you do this time, Inuyasha?" asked Miroku.

"I didn't do anything! She's over-reacting as usual!" said Inuyasha angrily.

"Nothing, huh? So you call tackling me and then touching my chest nothing?" said Kagome coldly, getting over her initial shock.

"I told you it was an accident!" he yelled.

"I can't get over the fact that you and Kyo have the exact same personality," said Yuki, shaking his head.

Inuyasha suddenly realized that someone else was there and he looked at Yuki, "Yuki? What are you doing here? Did Kyo come with you?" he asked sounding hopeful.

Yuki shook his head, "No…he was helping out at his master's dojo and Miss Honda went with him. I was finished my homework and didn't have anything else to do, so I figured I'd come visit for a while," he explained.

"How long are you here for?" asked Sango.

"I can't stay long. Hatori told us to go to the main house tomorrow evening for some reason. He said it was important that all the Sohma's and Miss Honda were there," he replied.

"All the Sohma's including Kyo? I thought he wasn't allowed to enter your main house," sneered Inuyasha.

Yuki shrugged, "Hatori didn't say anything about Kyo not being able to be there," he said quietly.

Sango touched Yuki's arm, "How are things going with you and Kyo since you guys went back to your world?" she asked.

Yuki looked down at Sango and smiled, "We still fight every day. Although, it's been a lot better since we met you lot. I do want to try to be his friend, rather than enemies, now that Akito is gone…but I don't think he'd want to do that. We've been 'enemies' our whole lives," he said quietly, doing air quotations when he says enemies.

"Well, if you want to be his friend, why don't you just ask him?" asked Kagome indignantly. "It was Akito who was making you two enemies right? Since he's gone now, you two could start over. Maybe Kyo wants to be your friend as well, but you'll never know if you don't ask him."

Yuki sighed. He knew that Kagome was right. The only reason why Kyo kept challenging him was because Akito told him that if Kyo could beat Yuki before their high school graduation, he would allow Kyo to become a true member of the family. With Akito gone, they really had no reason to fight. But still…he wasn't sure if Kyo would want to be his friend.

Lady Kaede handed him a bowl of stew and Yuki took it gratefully, thanking her. He began eating, savoring every bite. Lady Kaede was just as good a cook as Tohru and he enjoyed eating her meals. After a few bites, Yuki looked around at everyone.

"So how has it been here? What are you guys doing now that Naraku is gone?"

"Well, Miroku and Inuyasha go around from town to town exorcising demons for the people. Kagome has been training with Kikyo on how to use her bow better. Shippo comes and goes from the village to take tests and become a full-fledged fox demon. And as for me, I stay here and help Lady Kaede watch Rin and do chores," explained Sango.

"Rin? I thought Rin was traveling with your brother, Inuyasha?" asked Yuki, his eyebrows creasing with confusion.

"She was, but he decided that she should live with humans for a while so that she can choose what she likes more," said Kagome

Yuki nodded in understanding and continued talking with his friends. At around nightfall, he said goodbye to them and kissed Sango before taking out the jewel shard and thinking of his home. He felt the familiar spinning sensation and when he opened his eyes, he was back in the living room in his house.

"Oh, Yuki! There you are! Where did you go?" asked a sweet voice behind him. He turned around to see Tohru standing there.

"Hello, Miss Honda. Sorry, I went to visit Sango and I stayed later than I meant to. Where's Kyo? I need to talk to him."

"Oh, he's sitting on the roof. He got angry because Shigure was teasing him about Inuyasha."

Yuki thanked Tohru and went outside to climb to the roof. Sure enough, Kyo was lying there on the roof, looking up at the starry sky with a faraway look in his eyes. "Kyo? Can I come up?" asked Yuki.

Kyo's crimson eyes glanced at Yuki before moving them to face the sky again, "I guess so," he said reluctantly.

Yuki climbed onto the roof and made sure he kept his balance before sitting down. Once he sat down, he looked up at the stars. It was quiet between the two of them for a few minutes until Kyo finally broke the silence.

"What do you want, Yuki? You never sit up here with me," asked Kyo, his voice full of curiosity and suspicion.

Yuki sighed, "Well…I wanted to talk to you about something."

"And what's that?"

Yuki hesitated, not knowing how to tell his lifelong enemy that he wanted to be friends. He decided to begin with Kyo's bet with Akito. "Remember that bet you made with Akito last year? The one where Akito said if you could beat me then he'll let you be in the family?" asked Yuki softly.

Kyo stiffened at those words, his crimson eyes hardening, "Yeah…what about it?" he growled.

Yuki looked down nervously, "Well…with Akito gone, there's really no point in us fighting anymore. I know we're the Cat and the Rat, but we're still human beings…" he says quietly.

Kyo didn't speak for a few minutes, "So what? Are you saying you want to call a truce?" he finally asked his cousin.

"Well…kind of." He sighed before continuing. "I was actually hoping that we could try to be friends." He squeezed his eyes shut waiting for Kyo's outburst. What he said, though, wasn't what he was expecting.

"Friends…heh…you'd think that would be impossible for us. We've been enemies our whole life," he said quietly.

"I know…but don't you think it's something we could try and do?"

Kyo hesitated, "Well…I suppose we could, but don't think I'll stop challenging you just because we're friends! I will beat you one day!" he said finally, but Yuki could hear a joking tone in his voice.

He smiled, "You can keep trying to beat me, but you know it won't happen. Stupid cat," he said in a teasing voice.

"Don't call me stupid, ya damn rat!" he exclaimed. He grabbed Yuki and put him in a head lock and started giving him a noogie with his other head.

Yuki started laughing, "Ow! Kyo you're hurting me!" he exclaimed, trying to pull away from the headlock.

Kyo chuckled, "Do you give in, Yuki?" he asked, smirking.

"Yes! Yes, I give in! Just please let me go!" he exclaimed.

Kyo let go of Yuki, still chuckling. Yuki threw a light punch to Kyo's shoulder and Kyo did the same to Yuki. They sat together for a bit watching the stars. Suddenly they heard Tohru's voice calling for them, "Yuki-kun! Kyo-kun! Dinner is ready!" she said.

Yuki climbed down the ladder first and Kyo followed after him. They walked into the kitchen to see Shigure and Tohru already eating. They sat down at the only two spots left at the table which were side by side. Shigure looked at them in shock when they didn't complain about having to sit beside each other.

"Are you guys feeling sick? This is the first time you two didn't complain about having to sit beside each other," said Shigure looking from Kyo to Yuki and back again.

Kyo and Yuki exchanged glances, "Well…we've decided to declare a truce and try to be friends," Yuki explained.

Tohru's eyes widened, "Really?! That's wonderful!" she squealed.

They began eating when Yuki suddenly remembered Hatori's news, "Oh yeah! Hatori came by today and wanted me to tell you guys that he wants all of us to go to the Main House tomorrow evening because he has something important to tell us," he says.

Shigure looked surprised, "When did Hatori come by?"

"Earlier when Kyo and Tohru were at Shisshou's dojo and while you were working on your novel," Yuki explains.

"All of us? Tohru and I included?" Kyo asked, his eyes wide with surprise.

"Yes. You and Tohru as well," said Yuki with a smile on his face. Kyo smiled back and they continued eating. After dinner, Yuki helped Tohru with the dishes then went upstairs to his room. He ran into Kyo who was just getting out of the shower.

They smiled at each other and Yuki walked into his room to get his pajama's on. After getting his pajama's on, he goes to the bathroom to brush his teeth then turned out his light and went to bed. He stayed up for a little bit in his bed, his arms behind his head staring up at the ceiling as he wondered what Hatori could possibly want to tell them. With that thought in his mind, he fell asleep.

Hey guys! I am really sorry for the long update! I've been having a bit of writers block for this story. I'm trying to come up with a conflict, but I'm coming up blank. One of my friends suggested that I do something along the lines of the Sohma's missing their lovers in Feudal Japan and feeling left out as all of their classmates fall in love and start dating. I thought that was a good idea, but I want my readers' opinions as well. What do you guys think I should do for the conflict? Let me know in a review! And again, I'm really sorry for taking so long to update. I hope you enjoy this chapter and I'll try not to take so long on the next chapter! See ya! Please R & R!
