Authors Note: I am so very sorry to the followers of this story for how long it took me to actually get back to it. Geez, that took forever. But I finally found some time to actually look over it again. I had done so a few times but I hadn't known what I wanted to do with it until now. But finally I've come back around to it. I can make no promises as to when the next chapter will be out but I can say that I have Remembered and will continue with the story. *Enjoy Chapter Ten-finally! :)
P.S. This story may become a little bit more on the dark side.
Folded atop the small bedside table in Irey's adopted room in the watchtower sat the image that had traveled with her. It unbent precariously, unfolding and laying flat on the table with the fold still clearly centered in the middle of it. A third figure began to appear next to the two girls within the photo; a figure even further in the background appearing as well, just a silhouette really but there was color to it, distinctly yellow. Soon Wally was pictured along with Artemis and Irey, smiling just as happily as the other two.
Wally began to slowly change in appearance, the red flash costume-taking place of his 'civilian' attire. He noticed this and glanced down at himself as the change moved from his feet, going over his thighs, hips, waist, chest… And when he looked back up at Bart he wore the signature flash cowl, seeing red at the edges of his vision that he'd only see when he wore the cowl. Wally grumbled something, looking down at his clothes again. "Maybe I finally made the right choice…"
Bart stared at him, his mouth agape slightly as the speedster just stared, highly caught off guard by the past minute to be able to form any amount of coherent thought or words. When Wally made a disgruntled noise he blinked and shut his mouth having not even realized that he'd been staring at him. "Well um… that happened." And then he was easily swept into his ability to ramble on, getting over his surprise quickly. "What do you remember about life here and now? What's it like? You haven't appeared in my memories yet. You should've the moment you came back…" He shook his head slowly, rubbing his forehead in his hand as he did. "It doesn't matter at the moment."
"No," Wally agreed. "It doesn't. Now we worry about Irey and trying to get her back. She doesn't belong in the past and she knows it as well as everyone else." He quickly stepped once and suddenly he reappeared on the other side of the machine, looking in at the guts of it. He put his hand on the side of it, felling that it was still fairly warm yet. But the power adapter was scrap now, they would need to get another one of those, most likely have to make it themselves.
"Even for one of us, it'd take at least a week to make another one as the parts are hard to come by and the liquids need to set together in and not added until completion," Bart explains with a heavy sigh. "Some we had to make ourselves."
Wally looked stressed and on the verge to snap. "We don't have a week, Bart," he said calmly, his voice even despite how he looked. "Where is Barry? We're going to need his help in this."
His outfit began to change yet again. This time it changed to a pair of worn blue jeans and a thick sweater. Wally looked haggard and older than he probably should. Grabbing at his head, he groaned in pain, his memories altering to catch up with what had happened. "Oh God…" He whispered in a groan. "I keep changing because Irey is in the past and she isn't alone."
Bart was at his side the moment he looked in pain and rested a hand on his shoulder. "Your memories, they're changing?" Wally nodded slowly in reply. "Each time your out fit changes?" –"More or less."- "What'd you mean by she's not alone? And why do I not know what is going on?" He growled in annoyance. The fact he didn't know what was going on, that his memories also weren't altering to match Wally's was greatly aggravating to the speedster.
Wally breathed out and looked up at Flash. "Because you are set on a direct path here. Whereas both mine and Irey's are changing due to her being stuck in the past and my inability to be nobler than I have been acting." He paused for a moment. "The future is always changing and until we can get her back here and continue her on her path, I will continue to change like this. She came back for me so I'm directly affected by it. I was meant to stay in the speed force and so was she… So the force is no doubt having an effect on this." He dropped his hand, his face slightly pale and clammy in appearance from his sudden bout of mental pain.
Bart dropped his hand, shaking his head as he sucked in a deep breath. "I don't like the sound of that. But that aside, what do you mean she's not alone?" He asked. He put his hands on his hips, a slight slouch to his shoulders.
"You remember the family picture Irey always carries around in her suit?" He asked him simply.
He nodded quickly. "Yes. And?"
"In the background of it, the silhouette of a person. That yellow blur," he explained with some difficulty of putting it into words. "That was Eobard Thawne."
Bart's face fell. "Why?"
He jumps around Bart's question, not wanting to say. "He knew exactly what was going to happen and he went back and is thus far succeeding in his plans." Wally closes his eyes for a moment, his jaw clenching as he worked to control his inner demons. Before he says anything more telling to Bart and possibly jinxing himself and that path becoming true, he says, "We need to get Barry and go back through the force."
"Through-"
Bart was suddenly cut off as Wally nodded, "Through. We need to grab Irey and take her back with us. It is the only way to fix the time stream and make everything as she had first planned for. Or else I'm afraid things will change and not for the better."
