Mirra's p.o.v
It had been a long week at school, and I was sitting outside the school at a little picnic table waiting for Percy to come pick me up. I was excited because Annabeth was coming over for the weekend, and she said she had a surprise for me.
I was sitting quietly drawing. I was trying to draw Percy in his armour. I've seen him wear it a few times but he usually fights without it. So I was trying to search though my memories trying to get the details perfect. The necklace Percy gave me was hanging down on the table, shimmering in the winter Sun. The light reflected off the little green crystal like a mirror, making, what Percy would refer to as, a St. Patrick's day rainbow on the table.
I has humming quietly and shading in his eyes with my green colored pencil (the eyes were always my favourite) when I felt somone sit down next to me. I payed no mind to it, seeing as it was probably Ellie come to annoy me and just continued humming.
"Ugh! Could you be any louder! Shut up."
That cold screeching voice made me perk up. Sitting right by me, was none other than Linda, one (or used to be one, should I say) of Melanies henchmen. She was glaring at me with a snarl on her too perfect features. Big Brown eyes wide, though I could never tell with her, and twinkling with annoyance, pointed out nose scrunched up like folds on her silver sparkled coat.
I balled my fist and scrunched up my nose. "If you don't like it, go away dolly"
A smirk appeared on her perfect pink lips and a cold laugh escaped though her lips, like somone had pulled the string on her back. "Why don't you? I'm not going anywhere."
"Well, neither am I, " I said as I turned back to my drawing.
Behind me, Linda sighed. "Look, maybe I didn't make this clear. Leave. Now."
"No!" I snapped, dropping my pencil on the table with such force, it bounced up and landed on the ground.
"Leave!"
I growled and went to raise my hand to push her off the bench, but then she smirked and grabbed my wrist.
"Eh eh eh." She twitched her head over to the door, where one of the teachers were watching us. "You wouldn't want to get in trouble, would you goody goody?"
I flinched. The teachers were watching, and our school has a strict no violence rule, especially for elementary. I groaned and threw down my hand, causing Linda to laugh.
"Hey, Why do you always wear that ugly necklace?"
"What?"
"That ugly necklace!" She grabbed at the charm on the end of my necklace, then yanked it, forcing me to lunge forward and almost fall off the table.
I grabbed her wrist and twisted if, forcing her whole body to twist to the left. She let go of the charm and it fell back to peaceful dangling around my neck.
"My big brother gave it to me!"
"The weirdo with the creepy eyes?" Linda laughed. "He must hate you then." Her laugh was cold and cruel, reminding me of the way a villain will laugh when they know they're going to be the ones to win. I'm not going to lie when I say I flinched. It scared me, it really did.
"H-he d-doesn't hate me." I stuttered, a mumbled voice barely higher than a whisper. "He said it would protect me."
She laughed, that same evil laugh. Her brown eyes were lit up like Christmas trees with amusement at my expression. But there was something else to. Just a light glimmer, but I saw it. Jealousy. She was jealous that my brother and I got along so well. I've seen the relationship between her and her brother. It made me feel a bit sorry for her.
"That's stupid!" She shouted, causing me to flinch again. I quickly turned away from her to face the table.
"No, it's not" I whispered, more to myself than to her as she continued laughing.
"What's so stupid-"
"-about someone you love"
"Wanting to protect you?"
Linda stopped laughing and I looked up. In front of us were two fifth graders, twins, each with the same neatly trimmed dirty blond, almost brown, hair and intense brown eyes. They looked pretty mad, and were glaring at Linda.
Here's the thing. A second grader can push around a fourth grader, but you do NOT mess with the 5th graders.
One of the twins walked up behind me while the other got in front of my. The one in front of me looked down at my torso where my necklace was resting.
"I think it's really pretty" he said and the one behind me agreed. The only sound I was capable of making at this point was a light squeak that resembled that of a mouse.
They then turned back to Linda. "Apologize. Now."
With trembling limbs and widened eyed, she backed away till she fell off the bench. Looking down, she mumbled a quick apology and ran off.
The two twins looked at each other and nodded, then turned around so that I could face both of them.
"Allow us to introduce ourselves." Said the one standing on the right. "I'm Bobby-"
"-and I'm Matthew" finished the one on the left.
"Mirra. Nice to meet you, and thank you for helping me."
"No problem Mirra!" Said Bobby.
"Yeah!" Matthew continued. "And besides, in a way, she was kinda insulting us!"
"Hmm?" I hummed, tilting my head slightly. "What do you mean?"
Simultaneously, they reached under there shirts and pulled out two necklaces, both of the same. It was an owl, feathers if red, orange, brown and grey, with its wings spread out and its beak pointed up. Above it was an orb similar to mine, only it was grey.
"Our sister, Annabeth gave these to us." They said in union.
"Wow, there beautiful...wait, did you say Annabeth?"
"Yep!"
"Annabeth Chase?"
"Yeah, do you know her? Bobby asked.
I nodded enthusiastically, a huge grin making it way on my face. "Yeah! She's my brothers girlfriend!"
They looked at each other. "Huh? But Annie-nee is dating Percy, right?" Said more to each other than to me.
"Percy is my brother. Step-brother, but I don't like adding the 'step' part because I like to think of us as real siblings"
They nodded in understanding, smiling and then laughing, utterly confusing me. But then they extended there hands towards me with big lopsided grins.
"Nice to meet you, Mirra!"
I smiled, and took theirs hands, expecting to shake them, but instead they pulled me up off the bench and started dragging me off to the playground.
"Huh, wha-were are we going?"
Bobby chuckled. "To the play of course!"
"You second graders have your games, " Matthew "but we're going to show you how we fifth graders do things!"
"Huh! B-but wait! My sketchbook!"
OoOoOoOo
Matthew, Bobby and I were laying on the grass with our arms spread out wide, panting heavily playing an elementary version of hockey without ice. It sounds for complicated than it sounds, but still a really fun game that the fifth graders invented.
"You seriously kill it it that last round, Mirra!" Bobby exclaimed, sitting up and extending his hand to help me.
"Yeah, we didn't know a second grader could kick that hard!" Matthew said.
I smirked. "Its all in the converse!" I shook my platter paint converse. Bobby and Matthew laughed.
"Well, looks like you three have met."
We turned our heads to the source of the voice, seeing Annabeth standing there, a playful grin on her face and a hand on her hip. Her blond hair was pulled up in a low ponytail by a green bandana (I noticed it was the same color as Percy's eyes. I'll have to ask her about that later). She was wearing a white t-shirt with a design on the front, I think it was from death note, and red jeans. Her bags was slung over her shoulders carelessly, open slightly that I could see the 'Peeps' book peaking out.
"Annie-nee!" The twins shouted in unison, jumping up and tackling Annabeth in a hug.
Percy walked up from behind her with an amused expression. "Annie-nee?"
"Its a nickname, seaweed brain" She smirked at the last part.
"Fair enough," he turned to me. "Now, don't I get a hug?"
I grinned and ran up to hug him, which he then picked me up and put me on his shoulders.
"So, Percy, why don't you tell Mirra the exciting news." Annabeth said.
"Right. Not only is Annabeth staying the weekend, but so is her brothers"
"Really!" Bobby, Matthew and I choruses. Without waiting for an answer, I jumped down and tackled them into a hug, already shouting ideas of things we could do, and them nodding and making suggestions of their own.
I get the feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I'm horrible! Not updating in a month! I'm so sorry! I had been busy with school and studying for the math bee (3rd place out of the whole Ozark county!) and all the snows knocked out the power quiet a few times. I know, you all probably hate me now. I'm sorry. I hope to make it up to you next chapter. (Spoiler alert: she meets Artemis).
