Emily was leaning on the the balconys fence,enjoying the the light breeze,the wind refreshing her mind and awakening her senses,so after they checked in into this beautiful room with a balcony and a great view of the lake ahead of them,emily was mezmeried by the sight and decided to take a moment to enjoy all of this,when seeing this, paige just took a step back and let emily have her moment, she just stood in the middle of the room watching as the wind caressed emilys face and hair,hypnotized by emilys beauty and not really aware of any other thing around her,God she is beautiful,paige's thought.
''god, it's so beautiful here''emily said as she made her through the glass door seperating the balcony and the room.
''yeah,yeah''paige said with a smile,as she watched emily inspect the room ''you were right''she continues when she sees emilys confused look,''aboutplaying really intense between us''she finished with a laugh.
''oh,right now she's trying to convince that girl that she's happy for you''emily said as she made her way to the king size bed,and she took a deep plung,she rebounded on her back and sat on the bed,then she said''but i guarantee you that—''she didn't have to finish when she spotted a silver plate set on the table full with a strawberies,chocolat cover strawberries,her favorites.''This is my favorite hotel ever''she exclaimed getting up and walking to the table.
Paige watched an excited emily walk to the table,lifting a plate and taking a huge bite of what looked like a fruit,and emiting a moan in pleasure.she is so sexy eating strawberries,just eating,when did eating a fruit became so sexy.that was all what paiges thinking.
''this is my favorite treat ever''emily said joining paige in the couch and setting across from her.
''hmm,chocolate cover strawberries''she observed.
''you should try one,i insist''she said shoving the plate into paiges reach,
''i'm good,i'd much rather see you eat them''she said,and emily hummed in pleasure,''what's this ?''paige inquired when she saw a card attatched to the plate,and read out loud ''to emily,somple pleasures of life,thinking of you, ''.
''what ?!''emily screamed through her full mouth,and snatched the card from paige in disbelief.
''who's Alison ?''paige asked intrigued.
''oh,it's just this girl i'm see-,oh you met her at the bagel shop ?''she answered,while taking the plate and handing the card back to paige, and sitting on the bed,looking through her bag for her little agenda in order to call Ali and thank her for the gift.
''oh yeah,the slick girl,i'm having what she's having''paige said remembering how doey emily looked when she met this alison,feeling a bit frustrated she threw the card on the table and reached for the class of red wine that was setting on the table,and setting on the couch,her back turned back to emily,who was giggling like a school girl going on and on about how wonderful alison is,she can hear emily picking up the phone and talking to the voice mail''Hey alison,it's emily,and as i speak i'm eating the most devine strawberry,that was just so—''she heard emily stopping looking for the right words.
''romantic and toughtful''paige suggested finishing her sentence, and took a sip from her wine.
''romantic and toughtful,okay we are going to play croquet,i'd love to talk to you,so give me a call''emily finished when she saw paige get up and mouth to her ''it's time'',and making a sound like when a ball hit the bat , so she hung up the phone in just let out the biggest sigh,
''ahh,we got to go''paige urged.''i know you're in bless,but it would be lovely if you can get yourself up for us to go''she reached for emilys hands to help her out of the bed.
''oh,let's go kick some butt,paigey''emily said catching up with paige and leaving the room.
The place where the game was hold was a huge field covered by grass,and it was over looking the lake,various tentes were set up to provide drinks and snacks for those not participating in the friendly game.
Paige was with both caleb and noel -the groom-the poor guy was bombarded by all the terrifying jokes and serious talk about how marriage destroys the happiest of relationships,but he didn't pay it any attention,and he knew that it was just his buddies trying to mess around with him,and have a laugh on his expense,but all in good spirits.
So when the guys ware busy choosing their equipments,and arguing about choosing the lucky ball,paige just completly slipped out of the group and put on her sunglasses to shield the sun,but also to gawk at emily without getting caught.
''i never seen you looking at a girl like this since suzy panacol, in grade six,remember her ?''said caleb as he stood by her left side,noel on the right.
''yes,she was something else''paige said with a laugh,watching emily making a total joke of her self,the girl obviously had no idea how to play croquet,so she was holding the stick and aiming at the ball hokey style,so she ditched the twosome to go help emily,because as hilarious and cute as she looked paige wanted her to have a great time,and experience new things,and apperantly croquet was one of them.
''you start out playing hokey,now you're into golf''said paige as she approached emily,until she stood behind her and said''the game is croquet'',then she put her hands on emilys waist to try walk her through how to play,but to be honest she just wanted to be close to emily''so keep your legs a little bit apart''she instructed while adjusting emilys hold on the stick,briefly their hands touched,''so we'll now try to hit the ball''she whispered in emilys ear.
Emily was very aware of their current position so she looked around trying to spy paiges's ex-fiancé,just to make her feel like crap and take her own revenge,"oh my god where is she"she said after not spotting shana.
Paige let out a small laugh then carried on with holding emilys hand on the stick and regaining her attention back to the game,"so put your hands there"she said putting hers on top of emilys and swining the stick back between their legs,which made emilys butt press into paiges front,to avoid awkwerdness paige pitched in with last instructions''swing and tab''demonstaring by hitting the ball.
"swing and tab"Emily repeated,leaning into paige to show her if she got it right and said"swing back and tab".
After seeing that Emily got the basics of how to play, Paige moved her hands from emilys and put them on her shoulders making space between them and nodding she said ''okay,go''.
''okay,all right''emily said smiling ready to hit the ball, she took a few steps until she got closer to the green colored ball,she lined up the pointed wooden stick,she swined back and hit the ball,making it go through the two small bars and scoring her first goal,Emily was so surprised she made it from her first try she always been a fast learner, that she threw the bat without looking where it landed,and she skipped to paige and gave her a victory hug,which surprised paige but it was welcomed,and hugged her back,she was genuinly happy for Emily,and with Emily and that was something she haven't experienced in a while now-being happy-.
"oww,owww''was all poor noal could say after the hit landed straight to his left foot,and also what made both girls break the hug, finally coming to reality,with paige laughing her ass off,and Emily feeling terrible and apologizing''oh my god, did I hit you?i'm so sorry''all the time paige was having a blast laughing with both caleb and hanna who made their way to the trio.
''walk it off big stud,walk it off'caleb said,with a pat on noels shoulder.''okay,we are not practicing anymore,it's game time,so how about this''he stopped, looking everyone in the eye,setting a challenge for the group ''loser foots the bill for our annuel reunion next year''.
A group of okays and cheers erupted from the group of friends,accepting the challenge,Hanna found this as an opportunity to cut in with "this my only chance for girl talk,I'm gonna still Emily for a private match''she said holding emilys hand and dragging her away from paiges side.
Paige didn't like her idea in the slightest, she knows that hanna didn't mean anything by it,she probably just wanted to get to know Emily and ask her a few questions,but hanna was a very smart observant woman,who might be able to figure out all of her staged romance,plus she feared for Emily because she didn't want her to get all that best friend talk -if you break her heart you're freaking dead meat-so she objected''oh no,no no,come on''.
''what?"hanna said" you get her all the time".
"it's okay"Emily said looking at paiges worried look,telling her she could handle it, she took off with hanna and both girls headed to the other side of the lawn so they could have their private match/talk,Leaving paige with caleb and noel who also were having their own battle on the field.
''so I need details, start from the beginning'' hanna asked as she adjusted her grip on the wooden stick so that she could take her shot, ''like what you did on your first date''.
Emily taken back a little bit by the question, looked over to the other side ,locking eyes with paige,and trying to come up with something that paige would like to do on a first date''a hike''she blurted,she turned back to see a surprised hanna''yeah,we went on a hike''she repeated with confident.
On the other side paige was having a very similar conversation with the guys,so she made up a story,and kept it simple and short ''I rented a vintage Cadi and we drove around all night''.
Caleb looked at her with suspicion and he was not really buying her answer one bit,''you spent how much on a car, only to drive her around?''.
Emily continued''it was a beautiful day, the sky was blue,the air was crisp,and paige packed a picnic bag,they were bagles of course''she said with a small laugh,I'm so good at his just keep going ''she made a chicken pot pie''okay not that far.
''paige made a chicken pot pie?''hanna asked, feeling like this date was just too good to be true,plus paige couldn't cook to save her life,but maybe she liked Emily enough to try,she reasoned in her head.
Hearing hanna's surprised voice and I don't believe you looks she recovered with a ''well it was over cooked''she joked,trying to lighten up the mood,
Before answering noel came back with a question of his own''so did you nail her in the back of the car?'',paige stopped walking and rolled her eyes,that was typical noel move,so she stared hard at him,and looked in emily's direction ''does she look like the type of girl that would do that on the first date'' paige answered, she knew the guys were fishing for a steamy story to fill up their egos and fantasies, but she wouldn't give them that even if it is really happened.
''on the picnic table?''hanna repeated for the third time, she was really overwhelmed about what Emily was telling her, apparently there is no need to be worried about Paige, she was clearly over what happened a year ago,''I didn't know people still had sex on first dates anymore?''
''well I couldn't controle myself''emily said, looking again in Paiges direction which she found her self do so often,she knew she took it a little bit far,but when hanna kept asking for more details about their fake first date,Emily couldn't help but to push it and say that they had sex, she hoped by say it Hanna would lay off the questions and Paige wouldn't have to deal with her friends watchful eyes all week end.
''there is just something about her ,she has this charm that just sneaks up on you, you know, then you're hooked''emily finished looking to paige who at that moment looked up her way, their eyes locking and shot her a smile,she looks so dreamy.
Hanna being really moved about what Emily just said about her friend,she cleary could see that Emily loves paige,and hoped her friend wouldn't do something stupid to screw things up,because clearly they had this connection together.
''it was a really tough year for her Emily,she was so depressed,caleb and I were really worried,which was driving her mad, because we kept calling''she stopped and looked at Emily with so much sincerity in her voice and said''you are the best thing that could've happened''.
Emily smiled,a bit sad about how much pain paige went through,and only imagining how hard dealing with it all by yourself,with no one to turn to.''shana really crushed her,huh?''she asked.
'ugh,what a gold digger''hanna said obvious distaste in her tone,they moved so she could take her next shot ''I bet if she didn't quit her job,they'd be married by now''she continued with click to the ball.
''which job?''emily asked,as this was the first time she's hearing about this brand new information.
''Bear-Stearns,she thought she scored on the up and coming wonder girl, and she freaked out when she quit''hanna finished looking up to see a surprised Emily with her mouth slightly open,and clearly trying to process this information,that when she realized that paige hadn't told Emily about her pre-philadilphia life.
''but she is so modest,she probably never told you how well she was doing''she added.
''yeah,she didn't''emily was having a small revelation,she started to know more about paige,in fact she now knows about paige more than she does about Alison who she has been seeing for over three weeks,of course she knows a lot about Alison but it's all trivia,and not like the intimate stuff or life altering events like she just did with paige in this afternoon, and if she could admit it the more she learns about paige the more she likes her,but Emily wouldn't admit that to anyone.
At that exact moment Paige came running from the other side ,only to stop in front of Hanna and Emily and said''can I have my girlfriend now''she looked like a kid who has his favorite toy taken away from him, and Emily found it adorable and endearing and found herself smiling like a dork.
''we are going kayaking''paige announced like if it's Christmas.
''what,kayaking?!''emily said her smile disappearing,and dreading what next adventure is to come.
so end of chapter 9,we got to know a bit about paige's past,i also liked noel and mona together.
