Author's note: No prompt fills this chapter. I just wanted to get something out to you all and get myself back into writing mode. Also note I'm not a doctor nor do I know how this all works. So at the end if that's not how it works, just pretend that it is. Or hit me up with the knowledge. I look forward to your reviews and I'm sorry its been so long.
"I quit."
She leaned back in her chair, hands folded in her lap. Alice stood in front of her desk with arms folded across her chest. Her stance screamed opposition but she was not in the mood for it. "I'm sorry to hear that Alice but may I ask why?"
By no means did she want Alice to stay. Alice was a horrible bar manager and it would do her good to go ahead and get her replaced. She needed the time to train someone new who could handle the position. She was soon going to be out of work for awhile once Brittany gave birth. She wanted to know that the bar would be in good hands.
"It's awkward to be here," Alice shrugged.
"Awkward?" She asked. It wasn't a mystery to figure out. Alice had walked in on her and Brittany having a rather passionate bout of sex on this very desk.
"I like you. As more than my boss but you're married so its' awkward," Alice spoke down to her shoes, to embarrassed to look at her.
"It is. I love my wife very much. If you feel you can no longer work here than I rep sect that decision. I'll start looking for your replacement."
"I can work a two week notice but that Friday will be my last night," Alice dropped a piece of paper on her desk. Looking at the upside down letters she was able to read that it was an official write up of her resignation. At least Alice was being professional about leaving. She never knew what to expect when someone was going to quit. Sometimes it was yelling and cussing and other times they just never showed up again.
"I appreciate the time to find another manager. If that's all, then I will see you tonight," She reached for the paper Alice dropped on her desk so she could file it. Alice was quit as she left her office. She let out a deep breath and twisted her head to the side till it popped. She tried to think if she had anyone that she could hire to be her manager. She thought briefly of Rory, her newest bartender, but he was too new for her to trust to run the bar. She still needed another bartender too. She pulled out her cell and speed dialed Kurt.
"What do I owe the pleasure?" Kurt answered. He voice was muffled by what sounded like wind.
"I'm not calling at a bad time am I?" She trapped the phone between her ear and shoulder as she needed both hands to pull out the proper file to store Alice's resignation.
"Nope, just driving with the window down," He voice became clearer as the wind sound disappeared.
"Alice quit. I was wondering if you had anymore referrals up your designer sleeve?" She shoved the drawer closed and clicked her phone to speaker as she turned to her laptop.
"I might. Blaine and I made this friend a few months ago. She's a entertainment manager for a bar in the town over. We met up with her the other night and she was telling us that they've been harassing her because of who she is."
"What kind of harassment?" She asked pulling up the websites Kurt had sent her last night. If Kurt was already driving then he should be here soon to pick her up. They were surprising Brittany today with a list of houses to look at. She'd already cleared it with Mr. Pierce but Britt didn't know what they were going to do today once they picked her up.
"Unique was Wade," Kurt answered. "I'm here."
"Ok," She hung up the phone and clicked on a few of the houses they were looking at today. She had her eye on a two story cottage looking house but it was in a subdivision. All the houses near the woods were much larger than she thought they would need. Did they really need five bedrooms? She would be happy with a two bedroom house. Not that they couldn't afford the larger houses, between the two of them they made enough money to live comfortably in some of the larger houses.
Her office door swung open and Kurt waltzed in, "Anyway, as I was saying; Wade became Unique and the employee's at her bar found out and have been making it a living hell for her. Her boss won't let her fire any of them either. I was going to suggest her for the open bartender position."
"Alice turned in her notice today. I need a manager," She leaned back and they just smiled at each other. They had been waiting for the day Alice would no longer be around. She had been causing all sorts of problems, though they did die down after her and Britt were walked in on.
"Sounds to me like I should make a phone call," Kurt pulled out his phone. He paced her office as she continued to look through the websites. It frustrated her to not be able to hear the full conversation. Not that she was an eavesdropper but the fact that she couldn't do it anymore. Part of her felt very vulnerable not having her wolf with her, but the other part was grateful that it was keeping her mate safe. Being human showed her that she was always meant to be a wolf. She had a strong need to protect her own and even though she was weaker, slower, and tired, she was still protecting her pact. Perhaps that driving need was what made her alpha. Alpha or not, by that need to protect, she knew she would be a good parent. To her, taking care of her mate, pups, and pack was all that mattered.
"Unique will be by tomorrow to see you. She sounds excited about the opportunity to interview for the position," Kurt bounced a bit while tucking his phone into his jacket.
"Sounds great. If you didn't already have such a good job I'd offer you one," She shrugged.
"Look at us, being all adult like," Kurt chuckled. She shook her head and closed her laptop. "Ready to house hunt?"
"We are really doing this?" Her amazement was evident in her voice. She was getting married, buying a house, having a kid. This was all really happening.
"Not if we don't get a move on. We'll be late picking Britt up if we linger here any longer," Kurt pulled his phone back out and quickly tapped at the screen. She made it half away across the room before remembering her jacket. It was starting to get cold outside, something she'd never been bothered about before she lost her wolf.
She pulled her jacket on, soothed by the smell of worn leather. Perhaps she would continue to wear one even after she had her wolf heat back. She waved bye to Alice and nodded to Jake come over.
"What's up boss?" Jake asked after jogging over.
"Keep an eye on the place tonight. Rory is working the bar tonight and Alice is around, should be slow since its Monday but don't hesitate to call me," She instructed.
"Will do boss. Tell Britt I said hi," Jake nodded.
"I will. Thanks," She nodded herself, feeling better about leaving her bar in Jake's care. He wasn't one of her wolves but he had become close enough to be considered one of her pack. She just didn't have any hold over him and he only had personal loyalty to keep him here. After these years though she'd grown to trust him and he trusted them.
"Where are we going?" Brittany asked while bouncing a little in the front seat. She grinned from the back seat noticing that her fiance couldn't bounce as much now that she was showing. Brittany looked stunning with her pregnant glow and the baby pump she held protectively between her hands.
"Britt, I have to say you already look like you're going to pop. How far along are you?" Kurt asked as his eyes were laser focused on the road.
"We are four months last week," Britt answered while looking back at her and smiling. She reached forward taking Brittany's hand in her own and squeezing it gently. "We go tomorrow to find out if we're having a boy or girl."
"I can't wait. Once we know gender we can determine the decorations you two would want for the babies room," Normally Kurt would have bounced himself about that sentence but he was driving with such focus his words barely came out in any excitement.
"Kurt? You okay?" She leaned over to see more than hear his answer.
"We have a baby on board. I'm not taking any chances," Kurt's eyes were darting to the mirrors every few seconds.
"I appreciate that Kurt," She grinned and pulled Brittany's hand to her lips to kiss it softly.
"So where are we going?" Brittany asked again.
"We're here," Kurt announced pulling them up perfectly to the curb and placing the car in park.
"Um, this is a house. In a subdivision. With a for sale sign," Brittany's brows were furrowed together as if confused but she could see the light of excitement in Brittany's eyes. Her mate knew exactly what they were up to.
"With us starting a family and getting married it just seems like the time to find a house and set our roots. A place we can raise our family and a yard to play in. We're financially stable and we can use more space. It just feels like the right time," She explained.
"You don't have to convince me, San. I feel its time too," Brittany smiled and the light in her mates eyes took her concern and turned it to pure excitement.
"Let's take a look then," Kurt clapped and opened his car door to get out. She slid out of the car quickly to get to Brittany's door and help her mate out of the car. Kurt wasn't kidding. Brittany was really showing now. That had to be a good sign; that the baby was growing strong. But at five months she could see why her mate would and is needing her wolf.
The first house they looked at was the one she had been looking at in her office. It was a two story house with white siding and a one car garage. The neighborhood seemed nice but she didn't think many had any kids. A few yards had been overgrown and one house had six cars alone in the driveway. She was already doubting the neighborhood.
The second house had a better neighborhood and felt more kid friendly but the house was far to small on the inside. It looked to be roomy on the outside but once inside she felt like they were back in their apartment.
The third house was rather big, almost too big, and was all alone. The nearest neighbor was five minute drive away. They didn't even stop for that one. Space would be great but they both wanted their child to have friends to play with.
It wasn't till they visited the fourth house did they find what they were hoping for. The neighborhood was nice and it was early afternoon and kids were playing in their yards. The house was brick, two stories, and a double car garage with a loft above. The back yard was bigger than expected, already fenced and behind that were the woods that led to the forest the pack was already used to running through.
"What do you think?" Kurt asked as they finished the walk through.
She turned to Brittany who just looked at her and smiled, "I think this could be the house. I can see our kids playing in the back yard. When their a teenager, hanging out in the loft above the garage. Thanksgiving with the pack in the living room. I can see all of that."
Brittany walked forward and took her hand, "I see all that too. I really like this house."
"I was hoping you would think so. We can get an inspector in to take a look at the place," Kurt pulled his phone back out and dialed a number. He walked into the next room to talk to whomever, though she suspected it to be Blaine.
"Are we really going to do this?" Brittany asked when they were alone.
"We are. It's time. You and I, were starting a family," She reached out to place her hand over the baby bump and was just in awe of the tiny life growing inside. "Every family should have a home."
"Anywhere with you is home but I can see this house being a part of that," Brittany placed her hand over hers and intertwined their fingers. Brittany's engagement ring caught the light just right and she couldn't fight the peaceful sigh that escaped her.
"Alright ladies. Blaine is getting the inspection set up and should that go well he can draw up the paperwork. With any luck you'll be in your new home before you know it," Kurt announced coming back into the room to catch them in their moment. "I can already see it."
She hated doctors. Vet's she was cool with, but actually people doctors. Nope. She could do without. But Britt couldn't so occasionally she would find herself in a doctors office. This time however was for a good thing. They were going to find out the sex of their baby. Now it was just a matter of waiting for the doctor to join them in the room.
Brittany had already had her blood work done and other tests. Everything was good. They were healthy and happy which meant she was doing her job successfully. The door swung open and she turned in her chair at the sudden arrival of their doctor. She still wasn't used to not being able to hear if someone was approaching and that made her twitchy when someone entered the room they were in.
"Alright ladies. Seems like it's time to find out the sex of your baby. Excited?" Dr. Lawrence asked.
"We are. We can't wait to see them," Brittany took her hand and they smiled at one another.
"Then lets get started," Dr. Lawrence lifted up her shirt and squirted out the cold gel. They smiled at each other, still holding hands until Dr. Lawrence made a noise of surprise.
"What is it?" Her stomach jumped and twisted.
"It seems that your first sonogram was incorrect. The babies heart beats must have been in sync during the time," Dr. Lawrence stated.
"Babies?" Brittany asked.
"Yes. I'm seeing and hearing three distinctive babies. Congratulations. You're having triplets."
