Felicity and Preston stood on the roof of the Jackson Hotel waiting for Adam Ryde. Felicity couldn't contain her nerves and would have felt like throwing up if the rest of Team Arrow weren't stationed in hiding all around the building with Oliver being the closest behind a wall. If anything went wrong, Felicity knew that Oliver wouldn't hesitate to protect her and even kill for her if need be.
They had only been waiting 20 mins when the door to the stairway opened and Adam stepped out into the light, smiling at his assistant and his beloved daughter "Glad to see you're on time, the plane leaves soon" he turned to leave for the stairs again when Preston's voice rang out

"Hold on!" Felicity jumped when Preston yelled out "the plane is leaving but we are not" he placed a friendly and protective hand on her waist "we're not leaving"

"Oh?" Adam faced them again and looked questioningly at Preston and then said to his daughter "that isn't what you told me, Felicity? You said you would go with me and here you are, you have come this far, why not take it all the way?"

"Because I'm not sick, Father!" Felicity said desperately "look at me!"

"My cure has worked!" Adam beamed triumphantly "a few more tests just to be sure and then–"

"No, you freak!" Preston roared "here is what's going to happen: you give me the cure that I worked so hard to create so that I could actually help people, you're going to leave Felicity and her mother alone and then I'll put you away in a psychiatric ward where you belong!"

Adam chuckled like he was listening to an amusing joke "You do seem to have all of this sorted out, don't you Preston?" he reached inside his jacket slowly and stepped forward "and my daughter just willingly follows you?" he glanced at Felicity

Felicity could only nod as she instinctively took a step back with Preston standing firm in front of her "She knows I'm not like you" he glared

"Yes, that is true. Preston, you were never like me at all. When we first started working together, I saw myself in you: young, full of life and always seeking answers to how and why things happened" Adam pulled out a small bag made of velvet material and pulled out a vial of The Cure "but then I also noticed something else in you as time went on: you had a weakness. You wouldn't carry on if it meant hurting people or killing someone. That is where you and I are different!" Felicity backed further away and Preston was tempted to follow suit, Adam had a dangerous look in his eyes "the animal testing wasn't enough, I knew I needed to test it on people and you fought me every step of the way! Well no more! You'll no longer get in my way or produce what I have sacrificed so much for! My life's work! NO MORE!"

Felicity went to lightly grab Preston and gently pull him back with her when she saw Adam Ryde reach for a gun inside the bag. She screamed as Preston pushed her away and angrily leapt at Adam, grabbing his arm that held the gun and pushing it out of harm's way, Oliver sprang out of his hiding spot and aimed an arrow at the struggling pair waiting for a clear shot that wouldn't harm Preston.

Felicity begged Adam to stop and to just do what Preston wanted, that it was better for everyone "You're not taking my work or my daughter!" was the last thing she heard before that loud bang of the gun followed by the twang of Oliver firing his arrow.
Adam dropped to the ground, the vile of Cure went flying out of his hand, Preston saw it and grabbed at it before falling to the ground himself and holding his side as a white hot pain clawed at him. Felicity ran to Preston and got on her knees beside him "Preston!" she cried as she saw him holding his side as his wound dripped blood "it's going to be Okay, we'll get you to a hospital!"

"Take…this" Preston pushed the vile into Felicity's hands as his eyes started to betray him and things started to blur "I was only doing my job…of looking after you" his voice gave out, along with his vision and finally his breathing. Felicity began to sob as Oliver, Sara and John came forward, Sara and John inspected both bodies as Oliver gently took hold of Felicity and brought her to her feet, Felicity didn't think twice about burrowing her face into his shoulder, her arms draping around his shoulders as what had happened was finally sinking in. Preston died protecting her and his work.

Oliver took the vile from Felicity and pocketed it while ordering Sara and Diggle to take Felicity back to the lair "What about you?" Felicity asked weakly

"I'll call Lance and let him know what's been going on and give him the vile" Oliver gave Felicity a reassuring shoulder squeeze as she was led away by Diggle and Sara, taking out his voice and turning on his voice modulator, he spoke into the phone "Lance. I have someone and something you need to see" he gave him the address for the hotel and waited, he tried not to think of Felicity all choked up in the car.

Lance showed up twenty mins later and immediately asked who the two dead men were "you off them?" he asked crudely

"One is Adam Ryde, a rouge doctor who used inhuman ways of finding a cure to a particular disease close to someone I care about" The Arrow threw the vile to Lance who caught it neatly "this is that cure. As far as I know it works. The other man is his assistant, he died trying to protect his bosses latest test subject" Lance couldn't help but notice the hint of rage in his voice

"Who was his subject? Are they alright now?"

"I'll look after them, what I want you to do is take that cure to the hospital, they can mass produce it and start helping people" The Arrow turned and walked away, loosening an arrow from his quiver and letting it fly, then swung over the edge of the hotel and safely to the shadowed ground. Oliver grabbed his bike and raced back to the lair. He had to see if Felicity was alright.

THREE MONTHS LATER

Felicity sat in the Arrow Cave and smiled at the computer screen showing a video of a reporter talking about the newest development in medical history, she praised a new cure for her mother's disease and was happy that it was finally available to the public. Oliver didn't say anything but Felicity knew he had set up her mother in the best hospital ward, with the best doctors and was one of the first people ever to get treatment. Felicity felt tears in her eyes when her mother called her to say that for the first time in a long time she was feeling much better, no more hallucinating and her life was getting back on track.

Oliver came down the stairs and greeted her with a smile "it's available to the public now? That's fantastic!"

"My mum just started to receive treatment, she's doing much better" Felicity smiled at Oliver lovingly "thank you Oliver"

"I'm just glad she's Okay"

"My mum has requested that when the treatment is over, she come to Starling and meet that man in my life. Would you be good with that?"

"I would love to meet her, if she is anything like you I'll be sure to love her" Oliver smoothed her hair back behind her ear and placed a loving kiss on her lips. Felicity returned the kiss and nearly started to cry because she was so happy. Her mother was better, Oliver was with her and crime in Starling was down again so they had time together to be themselves.

Everything had fallen into place.

A/N: Well, I think this is the last chapter. Yes I know it didn't end the way I wanted it to but I had to get SOMETHING out for you all because it's been so long since I last updated. I do have some more ideas for Oliver and Felicity (maybe even Roy too?) and I want to get started on them right away!

I'm not sure how long it will take between updates because of my personal problems are not over and are taking up a lot of my time. When you have been with someone for a number of years, the thought that it needs to end and they will no longer be a part of your life anymore really can take its toll on you. I will remain strong though and continue to write for you all though!
