Warp me to reality
Chapter 1 – It's my job
Early morning. The typical Saturday hustle and bustle had already taken over the streets of Brooklyn. Amongst the morning rush hour traffic, a small run down mini van manoeuvred its way through the many cars on their way to their various destinations.
You don't need to drive that van to tell it's old. Any nearby pedestrian could hear the clanking of the rusty chassis as it travelled down the roads. As it stumbled over speed bumps, various items clashed about inside the metal interior. The windows were tinted with dead bugs and grime, but it didn't stop this pair from doing their job.
Finally, the old van gently parked in front of a row of terraced houses. The front doors opened simultaneously and a man stepped out from each side. The first was a fairly chubby and short man with short light brown hair, and the second was a taller, thinner person with black hair. The pair went around the back of the van and got out a couple of tool boxes.
"First job of the day little brother," the shorter guy said, "Let's make it a good one!"
They were greeted at the door of one of the houses. A woman led the two men into her home.
"Thank you for coming out to see me at such short notice," she told the men, leading them into her kitchen, "I hope I didn't trouble you in any way..."
"It's no problem at all," The shorter guy said, placing his toolbox on the floor, "So what seems to be the problem ma'am?"
The woman went over to the kitchen sink and turned the top handle. No water came out, but a low rumbling could be heard coming from the drains. The shorter plumber let out a low groan whilst scratching his bristly moustache.
"We'll do our best to fix it for you." The taller plumber said to the woman, giving her a smile.
The woman returned his grin. "Thank you, you guys are real life savers! Listen, I'm sorry but I had made plans to go out today," she said, grabbing some keys from a nearby counter. She took a pad and pen out of a kitchen draw and scribbled something down, "Here's my number. If you're done before I return just give me a ring about payment." She headed for the door, "If you don't mind leftovers, there's some pasta in the fridge. Heat it in the microwave if you get hungry! Bye!"
The plumber heard the front door close. The shorter of the two grabbed a few tools from his box and stuffed them into the pocket of his blue dungarees.
"Lets get down to business!"
In no time at all, the pair got to work adjusting pipes to try to find out the problem. They soon found the cause of the broken taps.
"There's something blocked in here..."
They removed part of the pipe. They could clearly see something brown and fuzzy lodged in the piping.
"Uh oh," the shorter guy moaned, "Please tell me that's not..!"
Suddenly, the blockage began to twitch. It twisted in the pipe, reacting to the fresh air getting to it. It popped out of the pipe.
"I was right! Goomba!"
The taller guy grabbed a cardboard box from the corner of the kitchen and trapped the Goomba.
"How did it get here? He asked, to no one in particular. He inspected the pipes and gasped. "A warp pipe's been opened up here!"
He looked at his younger brother. They knew what needed to be done. The shorter plumber removed the top layer of his toolbox and took out a red cap with a red 'M' embroided on the front.
Mario placed the cap on his head. "Let's roll, Luigi!"
