Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
Thanks for all the reviews, favorites, and follows! Big thanks to my beta, Modges!
She was jolted awake by someone loudly banging on her bedroom door.
"Hermione! Hermione, let me in! I know you are in there, I saw Potter."
Groaning, she rolled over onto her stomach and covered her head with a fluffy pillow in an attempt to drown out the racket. The last thing she wanted to deal with right now was her irate twin brother. She had known one day she would regret giving him unrestricted access to Grimmauld and it seemed that day had finally come.
"Go away, Draco! I'm sleeping!"
"I swear to Salazar, if you don't take these wards down and let me in, I will come back with Uncle Sev and Father."
With a loud sigh, she sat up and swiftly dismantled her wards before flopping back down and burrowing her head back under the pillow. She was in no mood to deal with Draco's temper tantrum, she just wanted to go back to sleep. Considering that her pillow was promptly ripped off of her head, she didn't see that happening any time soon. Sitting up once more, she gave Draco her best death glare, channeling their Uncle Sev for all she was worth. Apparently it wasn't quite intimidating enough as Draco simply raised his irritatingly perfect eyebrow at her. Sneering at him, she grabbed the pillow back and immediately chucked it at his head.
"What do you want, Draco? It's too early for me to deal with your childish behavior."
"Me? Childish? Oh that's the rich. My twin, who got into a brawl at only the most exclusive restaurant in Britain, is calling me childish."
So that's what this was about. If she hadn't been asleep when he showed up, she probably would have figured that out already. Lack of sleep really affected her reasoning skills.
"You came over here, woke me up out of a dead sleep, to yell at me about that? Really, Draco, I would have thought you would be happy to hear that your sister knocked a Weasley out cold."
"I admit, I did enjoy that part. What I did not enjoy was having Aurors at the Manor this morning, looking for you."
That got her attention. She should have known that Ron would call the Aurors on her. Groaning, she dropped her head into hands. It was way too early for this. She bet that Lucius was furious. If he thought it was bad enough that she was living with Harry, she didn't even want to know what he was going to say about this.
"You saw Harry when you barged into my house earlier?"
"Yeah, he was in the kitchen."
Getting out of bed, she grabbed a short, silk bathrobe to throw over her nightclothes. Motioning for Draco to follow her, she led him to the kitchen where Harry was cooking breakfast. When they entered the kitchen, Harry looked at her and smirked. "You know, Hermione, with your current threesome going on, I really have no idea where you find the time for an orgy."
"What?!"
Harry gave a short nod towards the kitchen table and that morning's copy of the Daily Prophet. Hermione scowled blackly, she really hated that newspaper. Picking it up, she wasn't particularly surprised to find that the incident in question had made the front page. Once again, the article was full of speculation and innuendo but very few actual facts. In fact, the only parts that were at all truthful was the name of the restaurant and that she had punched Ronald Weasley. She chuckled dryly when she read that part that Harry had been referring to. Harry had apparently been involved in a salacious orgy that included herself, Pansy, Blaise and Theo. Looking up at Harry with considerable amusement, she remarked, "You know, that sounds quite interesting. Maybe the five of us should give it a go sometime?"
Unfortunately for Draco, he had just been sipping at his tea as she made her suggestion. As the blond sputtered and choked on the scalding mouthful of hot beverage, she and Harry dissolved into helpless peals of laughter. It really was too easy to wind her brother up. All she had to do was mention anything about herself and Harry indulging in less-than-platonic activities he would utterly lose it.
"You are not funny, Hermione. Can we please talk about this before Father has a coronary?"
"There's nothing to talk about, Malfoy. I took care of it while your lazy sister lounged the day away in bed."
"For Merlin's sake, Harry! It's only nine o'clock! And just what did you do?"
"I Floo called Kings. He'll take care of it. He was, however, admittedly confused as to why I was willing to throw my name around for you. I had to tell him your secret."
Harry looked at her, nervously, as if he was afraid of her reaction.
She just let out a resigned sigh.
"It's fine. I know Kings won't run around the Ministry, shouting it from the top of his lungs. People are going to find out eventually. I won't say that I'm not surprised the secret has held this long, but I'm hopeful it will keep for a bit longer. I think it's helped that I've kept a very low profile since the end of the war."
"Okay, Father will be happy to have the Aurors off our back. I guess you can be useful for something, Potter. What about the articles in the Prophet? Your best bet would be to ignore them. Any denials will just be seen as defensive."
"I agree with ignoring them, as long as Pansy and Harry agree."
"That's fine with me. I'm sure Pansy thinks the whole thing is hilarious."
At the second mention of Pansy, Hermione shot Harry a look that clearly said they still had things to talk about. Draco decided to take his leave and go inform Lucius that everything was fine, for now anyway. Giving his sister a hug and a brief kiss on the cheek, he stopped in front of Harry. Sticking his hand out, he said, "Thanks for the help with the Aurors, Potter."
Harry hesitated briefly before taking Draco's hand in his and shaking.
"You're welcome, Malfoy. Anything for Hermione."
With a nod to them both, he made his way out of the kitchen. As he passed through the door, he looked back at Hermione and said, "By the way, Mother is talking about hosting another party. I told her you would be delighted to attend."
With that said, he turned around and headed quickly for the Floo before his sister could hex him.
Harry and Hermione could hear his laughter as he shouted out 'Malfoy Manor'.
Harry looked thoughtfully at where Draco had been standing only minutes before.
"I never thought I would see the day where Malfoy would thank me for anything."
"Yeah, well, I never thought I'd see the day when Harry Potter dated Pansy Parkinson. How long have you been seeing her, Harry?"
Harry averted his eyes and mumbled something unintelligible under his breath.
"What was that, Harry? You'll have to speak up."
"Since the party Narcissa threw for you at Malfoy Manor."
Hearing Harry confirm her suspicion that his date with Pansy the night before hadn't been their first rather hurt a bit. She knew she shouldn't feel that way as he was a grown man and able to do whatever he wished, but still… they were best friends! Why did he evidently feel like he couldn't trust her with this? Needing an answer, she decided to ask him just that. At her question, Harry's eyes flew to hers in clear surprise.
"What?! Of course I trust you! It's not that at all, it's just with everything going on with you, all the changes, I didn't want to add something else to the big pile. Besides, I will admit I was nervous about how you would take it."
"Oh, Harry. You could date a Hippogriff for all I care, as long as you are happy."
Pulling Hermione into his arms, he murmured against her head, "You have no idea how much that means to me, Hermione. You really are like the sister I never had. Love you."
"I love you too. I must if I'm going to consent to hanging around Parkinson."
Harry gave her a playful shove as they both starting laughing. She really meant what she had told Harry. As long as he was happy, she didn't care who he dated. He, more than almost anyone, deserved some happiness in his life. And if that happiness came in the form of one Pansy Parkinson, well then she was going to welcome her with open arms. She was sure it would also make her brother happy as Pansy was still a good friend of his. Deciding to invite the witch over for tea, she made to leave the kitchen. She was stopped by Harry's voice calling to her. She turned around with a questioning look on her face.
"Even though Kingsley promised not to divulge your secret, you need to realize that it's going to get out eventually. You know how things are at the Ministry." "I know. Thanks, Harry."
She decided to head to the library to send her letters. She sent one to Pansy and another to her mother, inviting both of them for tea the next day. She received responses back rather quickly, both in the positive. Of course, her mother's reply implied that Lucius wanted to speak with her about the events last night. Not in the mood to get into an argument with Lucius, she decided to ignore that for the time being. Instead, she picked up a book, plopped herself down into her favorite chair, and began reading.
Hermione looked around curiously. She noted she was back in the gardens at Malfoy Manor. That was odd, wasn't she just in her library reading a book? There was something off here. It almost felt like she was walking through a thin covering of fog. Things weren't exactly clear. Deciding to head into the Manor in search of a Floo, Hermione rounded a corner only to find Lucius speaking with someone. Someone that looked a whole lot like Antonin Dolohov. Before she could say anything, the scene got even blurrier. She heard shouts and the garden was lit with flashes of light. She thought she heard Lucius shouting her name. She suddenly felt herself falling and as she looked up, she could have sworn she saw Sirius Black smiling down at her.
Hermione bolted straight up, her heart pounding, her book crashing to the floor. What, in Merlin's name, just happened? She had never had a dream like that before. Struggling to shake the odd feeling that the dream left her with, she dropped her head into her hands and took a deep breath. Sitting up, slightly calmer, she decided that talking to Lucius might be a good idea. Godric knows he's probably been wearing a hole in his carpet wanting to talk to her all day. She made her way to the Floo, stuck her head in, and called out, "Lucius Malfoy's study!"
"Hermione?"
"Lucius, would you mind stepping through?"
He nodded his consent and within seconds was standing in front of her. As he opened his mouth to begin talking, she held up a hand to stop him.
"I know you want to talk about last night, but I need to ask you a question first. Are you in any type of contact with Antonin Dolohov?"
To say Lucius was surprised by her question would be an understatement. She could clearly see the shock in his face.
"What? Of course not. I haven't seen or heard anything from him since Voldemort was defeated. As far as I know, he's in deep hiding. Why? Has something happened? Did he contact you?"
Before answering, Hermione took a good look at his face. There was no faking the surprise and shock he had shown when she first asked the question. He seemed sincere in his answer and she believed him.
"No, he hasn't contacted me. It's nothing, really. Forget I asked."
Lucius looked like he was going to push the issue, but ultimately decided against it.
"Fine. Let's discuss your behavior last night instead. I don't think I need to tell you that your behavior was unacceptable. Your mother was quite upset when the Aurors arrived looking for you."
Well, crap. She was just getting ready to tell Lucius that she was an adult and he could sod off, but he just had to make her feel bad by bringing up Narcissa.
"Harry took care of it. They won't be bothering you again. And I'll be seeing Mother tomorrow."
"I know you think because you are over age that you can do what you like, but your behavior reflects on all of us. You should think about that the next time you feel an urge to strike someone in the face."
"Are you serious? I don't suppose you were thinking about that in the Department of Mysteries or when you stood by Voldemort as he ordered Cedric killed? The fact that you can stand here and lecture me about my behavior is laughable. Get out."
"Wait! I'm sorry. That was uncalled for and you are completely right. I am probably the last person who should be lecturing anyone about what constitutes good behavior."
"Probably?" she said with a smirk.
"Fine. I am the last person that should be lecturing you. Happy?"
"Very. It's all taken care of anyway, so let's drop it and move on."
"Very well. Tell me, how are things proceeding with those two boys. Will we be planning a wedding in eight months?"
"You know about our time line?"
"Of course I do. They were required to inform me as your father."
"Ah, right. I should have realized that. I think it's really too soon to tell. We are taking it slow."
"Good. Just don't let them pressure you into doing anything you don't want to do or don't feel ready for. Just make sure you allow your mother sufficient time to plan the wedding. She's already very excited about it."
She groaned at Lucius's statement. She knew it to be true as Narcissa brought it up at every available moment. She was pretty sure the entire Wizarding world was going to be invited. The mere thought of that made her want to run and hide. She had thought briefly of trying to convince Theo and Blaise to elope, but she was positive that Narcissa would find her and kill her. She heard Lucius chuckling at her clear dislike about the wedding. She shot him a glare, which just made him chuckle harder. He took her hand in his and gave it a slight squeeze. After telling her that he had a meeting to attend, he took his leave. After he was gone, she stood staring at the Floo for a while after. As the exchange clearly suggested, things between her and Lucius were still strained. However, their relationship did seem to be heading in the right direction, even if he had a tendency to stray out of line. She wondered briefly if that is where Draco got it from. Shaking herself from her thoughts, she turned on her heel and left the room.
The next morning found Hermione bolting up out of bed. She had meant to get up early enough some special treats for her afternoon tea and now she wasn't sure if she would have the time. Rushing through her morning shower, she threw on one of Harry's old Quidditch jerseys. She would take the time to fully dress later. She practically ran down the stairs to the kitchen, completely missing the fact that Harry was already seated at the table with a rather odd look on his face. She moved quickly around the kitchen, gathering up the necessary ingredients. She placed them on the counter and as she went for the eggs, she finally took notice of Harry.
"Harry, what's wrong?"
Harry just sat there, looking at her with that odd, twisted look on his face. Finally stirring, he slowly slid the morning edition of the Prophet over to her. Finally, he whispered, "I'm so sorry, Hermione."
The sound of eggs hitting the floor was the only sound in the kitchen as Hermione stared at the Prophet's newest headline:
SECRET IDENTITY REVEALED! DRACO MALFOY'S LONG-LOST TWIN SISTER IS NONE OTHER THAN HERMIONE GRANGER!
A/N: Finally getting back on track for weekly-ish updates. I hope I'm not losing people since the last chapter got the least amount of reviews of them all. If there's something you want to see, let me know! Thanks for reading and please review. :) Oh and just a note, I am not turning Hermione into a Seer or anything like that. The scene in the library will be explained in a future chapter.
