Here's the next one-shot! Here, May and Drew are caught up in something out of the 2011 Touchstone film "Gnomeo And Juliet". What happens is that the Maples (May's family) and the Haydens (Drew's family) are feuding, and then when May goes out to find a rare berry to use in her Pokéblock, she and Drew meet face-to-face and fall in love, but since they're both in disguise (both of them not wanting to be caught by the other's family), neither one of them know that they're in love with the enemy. After that, we'll see how things turn out.
There HAS been a fan-made trailer for this particular movie centering around the ContestShipping pair, so I thought this would be fitting for the one who made it. Dedicated to youtube's megan5980. Contains Elton John's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" and "Hello Hello" from the Gnomeo and Juliet soundtrack.
Gnomeo and Juliet does not belong to me, nor do the songs, which belong to Elton John, and even Pokémon itself doesn't belong to me. If it did, I would have had Pokémon Contests in ALL REGIONS, so Dawn would have the perfect excuse to stay with Ash in Unova and even in Kalos. Don't you think that Pokémon Contests should be in all regions, too? I certainly like them. Heck, if the Pokémon world was real, I would be a Coordinator, myself!
'Two households, both alike in dignity…'
Then, there was a record scratch noise, and then Dawn comes in, shoving the narrator out of the way, while saying, "Yeah, yeah, for all of us who have READ 'Romeo and Juliet', we know how this starts, as well as how it ends! Let's move on…"
Alright, fine… Okay, where are we… Aha! *Clears throat* 'The feuding families, known as the Maples and the Haydens, were fighting for generations, and no one even knows when or how this whole family war got started to begin with. But today, that feud may either become worse or fizzle out, as two ill-fated lovers center around this tale. We begin our story with young Andrew Hayden, more commonly called Drew, the son of the Hayden family. The wheels are turning, and our story begins...'
Drew was sitting on a stone bench in the rose garden at his family's mansion, in the uptown part of the city. He had a thornless, red rose in hand, and he looked quite down. He had his trusted partner, his Roserade, by his side, and she was looking up at him in concern for her trainer.
"Oh, Roserade…" Drew said. "I really am in a rut…"
Drew had been depressed over a broken heart. The girl he was secretly sweet on did not feel the same way about him, and so he just sat there, sulking about it. However, his Roserade knew better; moping about was not going to solve Drew's problem. She knew that the key to fixing a broken heart as a new love, but she decided not to say anything. Then again, it was not like he would be able to understand her anyway.
"Rose…" Roserade said, shaking her head. All of a sudden, Roserade's stomach started growling.
This seemed to pull Drew out of his depression for a second, and then he laughed, saying, "You're hungry, aren't you?"
Roserade merely nodded.
Drew then took out his Pokéblock case, and opened it up, only to find that there was not anything in it.
"Uh-oh… We're all out of Pokéblock." Drew sheepishly said.
Roserade sweat dropped, before angrily shouting, "Roserade roserade roserade!"
"Alright, alright, I get it. I guess I've just been so depressed lately that I forgot to make more. Come on, let's get into the kitchen." Drew said, as he and Roserade went inside.
"…Yeah, looks like there was another scuffle in town between the families again…" One of the family servants said to his friends. "Will this feud ever end?"
'I hope so…' Drew thought.
Drew was soon in the kitchen, where the blenders were, and then he got started on his recipe. However, looking around, he noticed something: they were out of Starf berries.
"Uh-oh… No Starf berries!" Drew said, in a panic.
"Roserade?!" Roserade shouted.
"Crap… Starf berries are vital to my recipe! And all of the workers here at the villa already did their rounds, but none of them had Starf berries! The last thing I want is to inconvenience them, so we'll just have to go get them ourselves." Drew said.
"…The young master will be terribly upset once he hears that the marketplace did not have any Starf berries…" Drew overheard one of the maids saying.
"Well, that explains that…" Drew said. "I'd better tell mom and dad what I'm up to tonight before I go. They always tell me not to go out alone at night; we never know when a Maple might find us."
Roserade merely nodded, but her stomach growled again.
Drew then rubbed his partner's head, and said, "Don't worry, Roserade. I'll make sure you get something to eat."
Drew then took out some specially-made Pokémon food that had the flavors Grass and Poison-type Pokémon loved, and Roserade ate it up like crazy.
What Drew did not know, was that the during the coming night, his hurt heart would be healed.
Meanwhile, at the Maple residence next door, the daughter of Norman Maple, the Maple family head, May, was in her room, brushing her hair, with her partner, a Beautifly, in her bedroom with her.
"Beautifly." Beautifly said, as she was hovering around her partner.
"Don't worry, Beautifly," May said. "We always stay out of trouble where the feud is concerned. But truthfully, it's kind of a useless fight, isn't it? Dad doesn't even know when or how this whole thing started, so can't we just bury the hatchet?"
"Beautifly…" Beautifly said in agreement, as she kept flapping her wings, in minor sadness.
"I know what you mean," May said. "Why don't we do some Contest practice, huh Beautifly?"
"Beautifly, beautifly!" Beautifly said, happily.
However, the happiness was interrupted when Beautifly's stomach started to growl.
"Hungry, huh?" May said, smiling. She then took out a canteen that she filled with liquified Pokéblock. She thought that since Beautifly have long, thin noses, they would not be able to consume solid Pokéblock, so she always put it in another blender to render it liquid for her Beautifly to drink.
She opened up the canteen, but then she noticed something: it was empty.
"Oh, no! There's no more of your liquid Pokéblock!" May said, panicking.
Beautifly only had sad eyes, and her stomach growled again.
"Better go to the kitchen and make more for you!" May said, smiling.
Beautifly then started fluttering around in circles, happily.
In the kitchen, May was gathering everything she needed to make her Pokéblock, but then she realized that she, too, was out of Starf berries.
"Disaster! No Starf berries!" May shouted, panicking.
Beautifly started to panic, too, as her stomach was growling, as well.
May then scrambled for her Beautifly Pokémon food, which had the flavors both Bug and Flying Pokémon love, and then she melted it for Beautifly, who drank it up until she was full.
"Looks like I'm gonna have to go find some Starf berries out in the wild," May said. "The marketplace is all out. According to the berry book, they're most likely found at night. Better go tell Mom and Dad."
She then went downstairs to tell her parents of her plans, with her Beautifly in tow.
After Drew informed his parents about his plans that night, he was on the rooftop, looking in his binoculars to find Starf berries. He found one, and it was in an abandoned part of the wealth district, in between the Hayden and Maple residences.
"Perfect!" Drew said. "I'd better get my stealth on tonight!"
Meanwhile, May had Beautifly with her as she also looked for Starf berries, and she soon found the exact same berry Drew had, in the same spot.
"Well, Mom and Dad know what I'm up to, and if I'm going to go out on my own, time for me to get into disguise! Come on, Beautifly!" May said, as she ran downstairs.
What neither Drew, nor May knew, was that when their paths crossed, something new would be born between them.
Later that night, Drew was preparing his clothing for stealth. To hide his naturally-green hair, the trait that set his family apart from others, he wore a black chef's cap, and to hide his face, he was wearing a black mask he found. He also was wearing an entirely black outfit, all the way down to the shoes, and then he smiled, feeling prepared.
"Drew, what are you doing?" Gary, his best friend from across the street asked, as he came into Drew's room.
Gary Oak was Professor Oak's grandson, and he came to Hoenn to work under Professor Birch as a future Pokémon Researcher. He managed to befriend Drew and the Hayden family in the process. Gary was also Drew's main confidant, next to Roserade, and he always relied on Gary for advice regarding the feud and how to stay out of trouble.
"I'm going to go outside to find Starf berries for my Pokéblock. The market was all out, and you're most likely to find Starf berries outside at night," Drew said, as he found a large basket.
"No, I mean what's with the getup?" Gary asked.
"The last thing I need is to get caught and end up in a fight with someone from the Maple family who just might be out there, too." Drew said.
"Your families are still feuding? Isn't it pointless?" Gary inquired.
"Yes, but my parents keep insisting that it's better safe than sorry. The last thing they want is for me to come home empty-handed, and bruised." Drew said, as he prepared some of his Poké Balls.
Drew prepared to leave, when Gary said, "Be careful, and what I'm talking about is be careful you don't disturb any wild Pokémon."
"Thanks, Gary, but I have my own Pokémon with me, just in case." Drew said, as he left out the door.
Meanwhile, May was getting ready for her trip to go get the Starf berry; she had Beautifly in its Ball, just in case.
"Ready to go!" May said.
In her family, the distinctive trait that set them apart was that for some strange reason, they all had brown hair, all in varying shades. To hide this, she was wearing a black bandana with a white Poké Ball design, and his most of her hair, minus a few subtle pieces, just in case someone mistook her for a boy. She was also wearing a black ninja-like dress and boots. Her family told her that if she was going to be going out at night, to blend in to the darkness in case a Hayden came around.
"May, be careful!" Dawn, a girl from next door said.
Dawn, with blue hair and blue eyes, was May's best friend, and also a fellow Coordinator, just like May, from Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh region. However, unlike May, her mother was a Top Coordinator in her day, so Dawn's talent was genetic. Just like Gary was to Drew, Dawn was not only May's best friend, but her greatest confidant, and trusted buddy, whom she can always vent to about the feud.
"Thanks, Dawn," May said. "I'll do my best out there!"
May then left.
Drew was out in the woods in the abandoned area of the wealth district, and he was walking around in the foliage.
Meanwhile, May was running around, atop the hills in the area, and she was shinning in the moonlight.
'Feel like I'm feeling light.'
As she ran by Drew, whom she did not notice in the grass, her shadow caught his attention, and he soon got curious as to what passed him.
'And I'm up to see the sights.'
Drew noticed her out of some of the grass he was hiding in, and then May ran a little more, doing some flips and Drew tried to get a better look at her by getting a bit closer.
After May took off, Drew tried following her, while still in the grass.
'Ain't life a many splendored thing?'
Drew got a better look at May, who took a little break to look around at her surroundings; she was literally standing in front of the moon, and Drew looked on, something in his eyes shinning.
'Ducking up and down. All these crazy sights and sounds bounce around like puppets on a string.'
May then took off, and then Drew also took off, in the grass, in an attempt to follow her.
May soon found the berry tree where the Starf berry was. It was on a small cliff, across a smaller gorge, and then she took a vine, and swung on it to get to the other side of the gorge, and soon found herself very close to the Starf berry.
'Ain't ever gonna find anything to change my mind. The famous last lines of a fool.'
Drew noticed her getting at the berry, and then he managed to get closer to the berry as well, while keeping an eye on the girl who seemingly stole his attention. He managed to get hold of the berry at the exact same time May did.
'Just when you think, that your chain is just one link, something comes to tip you off your stool.'
May and Drew then gently picked the berry together; they both noticed each other, and Drew found himself lovestruck with May, just like she did him, but neither knew they were the enemy. May and Drew kept gazing into each other's eyes, and both started sporting small smiles of infatuation. May saw her reflection in Drew's green eyes, while Drew saw his in May's blue eyes.
'Hello hello. Hello hello. Oh, my, my, what have we here? What a surprise, what a surprise. Hello hello.'
The ground underneath May cracked, and she fell, before grabbing hold of the edge of the cliff, while Drew held out his hand, while still holding the berry in the other hand, and allowed her to get up. May took his hand, and he yanked her up, before catching her in his arms as they fell to the ground.
'Hello hello, I'm not alone, it's good to know. Someone's out there to say hello. Hello.'
May then got off of Drew, while still blushing, and then she said, "Um… I'm sorry for coming here uninvited… I… I thought no one lived here."
"Er, I... I don't! Um… This… This isn't my property." Drew said, blushing.
"Oh, that's a relief. I'm only here to get that berry; it's for my Beautifly's Pokéblock." May said, pointing to the Starf berry in Drew's hand.
Drew then noticed the berry in his hand, and said, "This one?"
May nodded, and smiled, holding her hand out, expecting him to give it to her, but Drew smirked a little bit, and thought, 'If I just give it to her, she'll leave. I'll play a little game.'
"I'm going to have to hold on to this," Drew said, looking at the berry. "I'm looking for Starf berries, too, and just like you, for my Pokémon's Pokéblock."
"Pardon? I saw it first, so hand it over!" May said.
"Well, I got a hold of it first. It's ninety percent of the rule," Drew said, tossing the berry around in his hand. "But… Come get it, if you want it."
May then stepped on a root under her foot, which lifted up and smacked Drew's hand, causing him to toss the berry in surprise, and May caught it before telling him, "Thank you."
May then fell, after the ground crumbled again, and then Drew caught the berry, and used his other hand to grab May.
"You okay?" Drew asked.
May nodded as Drew attempted to pull her back up, but he fell, too, and then both he and May hung on to a branch that was only three or four meters above the ground.
"You should see the view." May said, as she caught the berry.
Soon, as they both got onto the ground safely, May and Drew started playing a little bit of a game of tag and catch with each other to get the berry. However, Drew was more interested in keeping May with him for as long as possible.
However, as May and Drew kept taking turns getting and losing the berry to one another, they were laughing and having a great time.
"Who's your honey?" Drew asked, as he got the berry.
"Really?" May asked, giggling.
Soon, the ground underneath Drew broke, and he fell, grabbing branch, and while May caught the berry, she threw him a vine, saying, "Who's your honey now?"
Drew caught the vine, and he started to swing up, and found some more stable ground, and giggled, while looking at May seductively.
May started going a bit of a balancing act on a log, when Drew shouted, "Hey!"
He swung on the same vine, and snatched the berry.
'Hello Hello, Hello Hello. Oh, my, my, what have we here?'
May took out a lasso and lassoed the vine and pulled it back, causing Drew to come back, and then May snatched the berry from his hand. The vine broke, and Drew fell, as did May, but Drew slid on a branch and got back up while May landed on some bushes.
'What a surprise, what a surprise. Hello hello, hello hello, I'm not alone, it's good to know.'
The berry fell onto some bushes in the center, and both May and Drew went to get it, with Drew nabbing it first and then he teased May a little bit, while May took off after him, laughing.
'Someone's out there to say hello. Hello. Hello.'
Soon, they both had a hold of the berry, as well as each other, and they were in a clearing. They were underneath the moonlight, and for some reason, it was in a heart-shape, and both May and Drew were giggling and spinning with each other's arms in place.
'Hello. Hello, Hello, hello. Hello, hello...'
However, neither one of them knew what was about to happen that could ruin everything for them.
They were standing on an unstable bridge above some deep water. All of a sudden, the wind blew very hard, and then May and Drew's hats flew off, and then they fell into the water nearby, which ended the fun by revealing their hair colors May and Drew examined each other, before backing off in fright; they realized that they had fallen in love with the enemy.
May resurfaced, and she started swimming away while saying, "Oh, no, no, no! He's a Hayden! Not a Hayden!"
'No… I won't let her get away!' Drew thought, determined to catch her.
Drew, not caring about May being a Maple, came up out of the water, and then he gave chase, while saying, "Hey, hold up!"
May refused to stop as she was running away to get away from Drew. She did not even care she was soaking wet.
'No! I won't let him catch me!' May thought. 'I don't believe this...'
The berry was sitting on the grass nearby.
After running away for a little while, May soon found and opening, and ran through, and she immediately bumped into one of the family guards.
Drew stopped as he saw this.
"Lady May, your excursion outside was successful?" The guard asked.
May looked behind her subtly while Drew hid, and then May gulped.
"Um… Yes, it was! But you're out in the alley; can I ask you why you're here?" May lied.
"We heard that a member of the Hayden family was lurking about. His name is Drew," The guard said. "Are you okay? Did you see him?"
Drew was listening in while thinking, 'PLEASE don't rattata me out!'
"No, I haven't." May lied once more, covering for Drew.
Drew silently sighed in relief.
"That's a relief. Shall we head inside?" The guard asked.
May nodded, while she went inside the gate, and then she looked back at Drew, with no one noticing, as he watched her leave his sight.
"May…" Drew said, dreamily, as he finally could put a name to the face he had fallen in love with. 'So, THAT'S her name…'
He soon walked out into the alley, and saw that the two fences, juxtapose to one another, were in their family's signature colors, and then he sighed sadly, as he said, "A Maple… Why, of all things, did she have to be a Maple?"
Meanwhile, May came back inside her bedroom while Beautifly munched on more of her Pokémon food, with Dawn feeding her.
"Hey, Dawn, hey Beautifly…" May said, absentmindedly.
May then sat on the bed, absent-mindedly, while she looked up to the ceiling.
Beautifly, curious, landed on May's head while saying, "Beau?"
"What's the matter, May? No luck with the berries?" Dawn asked.
"Um… What berries?" May asked.
Dawn and Beautifly looked at each other in concern, and then Dawn pried, "Did something happen?"
May nodded, and then she said, "Dawn, have you ever… Um… Fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have?"
Dawn then clued in, and said, "You've met and fallen in love with a Hayden, haven't you?!"
May nodded, and then Dawn thought about it for a few minutes; after dwelling on it, Dawn said, "May, this is great!"
"Huh?! How?!" May asked.
"Think about it! If you and… Um…" Dawn said, not knowing who May was talking about.
"Drew." May said.
"Drew… If you and Drew start going out, and then break it to your parents, it could end the feud once and for all!" Dawn said.
May knew what Dawn was saying, and said, "You're probably right, but… A Maple and a Hayden… It just… Isn't possible, is it?"
"If you make it possible, it can be!" Dawn said.
"Beautifly!" Beautifly said, as she nodded.
"Thanks…" May said, smiling a little bit.
Looking at the time, Dawn said, "I gotta go… See you tomorrow?"
May nodded, and then she said, "Keep my secret?"
Dawn nodded, and then she left the room.
Drew, meanwhile, found his way into May's garden. He was sneaking around, when he heard a few guards coming, and then he ducked into the bushes.
"I've never seen Master Norman so upset about having a Hayden nearby. Drew must be found!" One of the two guards said, as they kept looking.
As soon as the coast was clear, Drew soon started moving around to find his beloved May, when he saw her shadow in some security lights that passed over her.
Drew then pushed a few bush branches away, and saw May on her balcony, with her Beautifly on her head.
Drew smiled with love in his eyes, as he was so happy to see May, even from a distance.
'There she is…' Drew thought, a romantic smile on his lips and dreamy eyes.
"Oh, Beautifly… Why the heck did fate have to make me fall in love with the enemy? Why must Drew have green hair? But… What's in a guy? Because he's a Hayden… Oh, what the heck am I saying? That shouldn't be the thing to keep me and Drew from loving each other, right?" May said to her Beautifly, who started fluttering around her head.
Beautifly did not know how to respond; she had never really fallen in love before, so she would not know.
'Now!' Drew thought, as he decided this was the perfect time to court May.
"You're right! It shouldn't!" Drew said, as he came out from hiding. "I totally agree, May! You took the words right out of my mouth!"
"Oh, my giddy Bug-types, did you hear all of that?! What are you doing?!" May said.
"I came… To… Oh, I don't know; I just wanted to see you again!" Drew said, as he held up a red rose and threw it to May, who caught it. "Love at first sight."
May blushed, and said, "Oh, Drew…"
May shook her head, and then she said, "You've got to be nuts! If my father finds you here, you're dead Poké meat!"
"Good thing I'm good with stealth, then," Drew said, as he ran over to May's balcony. "I'm coming for you, May!"
May blushed; she felt as if it was the famous balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet, albeit she knew the conclusion of that story was anything but happy.
Drew climbed the wall's vines, and Beautifly used her String Shot to help him get up.
Drew then held May's hand, and said, "I love you…"
He took out the Starf berry, and then gave it to May, before telling her, "I… Hope Beautifly likes the berry."
May smiled, before saying, "Thank you!"
They were about to kiss, but Drew lost his footing, and then he missed May's lips while he was about to fall; Drew had to grab the ledge to steady himself, before pulling himself back up.
"Are you okay?" May asked.
"Yes. Um… Can I see you again?" Drew asked, blushing.
"Yes, but… It can't be here." May said, looking sad.
"That's no joke. Back at the old forest, then?" Drew said.
"Eleven-thirty?" May asked.
"That's not soon enough." Drew said, as he held May's hand once more.
"I can do eleven o'clock." May said.
"Deal," Drew said, as he gave May a kiss on the cheek. "Until tomorrow, mon amore. Parting is such sweet sorrow."
Drew then got down, and then he left the garden while blowing May a kiss. She grabbed it, and then held it to her chest while thinking, 'Oh, Drew…'
Beautifly started fluttering around in circles, happy for her trainer.
May sighed romantically, and said, "Oh, Beautifly… I really hope tomorrow goes well."
The next day, Drew was in his room, looking at himself in the mirror, as if examining himself. He was pacing back and forth, nervous, and his Roserade was looking at her trainer in questioning.
"Oh, Roserade… This is big! My heart has finally been healed, but… If anyone finds out… Other than Gary, I'm so dead!" Drew said.
"Roserade…" Roserade said, shaking her head.
Gary then came in, and said, "Drew, what's the matter? You've never been one to look at yourself in the mirror. Got a date or something?"
"Actually, yes," Drew said, as he pulled Gary in, and shut the door. "Gary, you gotta help me get ready! There's no way I can show up looking like this!"
"Um… You're certainly not trying to let anyone in on this," Gary said. "Any particular reason?"
Drew soundproofed the room, locked the door, and then after looking around a little bit, Drew said, "Can you keep a secret?"
Gary nodded; he knew that if Drew asked him that, then it meant that something big was on his mind.
"Good," Drew said. "You're the only one I can trust with this. Last night, while looking for the berry, I met this beautiful girl… She and I both needed the berry, but… We were both in disguise, and when we ended up getting wet, our hats came off, and… Well… It turns out the girl I've fallen in love with… Is… She's… Well, she's..."
"She's a Maple, isn't she?" Gary said, interrupting.
"Right," Drew said. "There's no way anyone, outside of you, can know about this! If anyone in my family finds out..."
"Don't worry, Drew. Secret's safe with me," Gary said. "Now, let's get started. You look all scruffy, and that water must not have been clean; the smell isn't appealing either."
Drew lifted one of his arms, and took a whiff of his underarm; Gary was right.
Gary then shoved Drew into the shower, and then closed the curtain on him, while saying, "No way. You're not showing up on that date smelling like a Stunky."
May, meanwhile, was in her room, looking in her mirror, too, and then Dawn, who had been in there for a little while, was helping her.
"May, that's not gonna cut it with Drew." Dawn said, shaking her head, before dragging May into the shower.
Gary turned on the shower, and then Drew was scrubbing all over like there was no tomorrow. His face, his underarms, etc., and he drenched himself in soap before rinsing off, and flipping his hair, throwing water everywhere, and he stepped out of the shower, with a towel wrapped around his waist. He smiled, and his teeth… were not optimal. So, he ran to the sink and started to brush his teeth like crazy.
'Don't go breaking my heart. I couldn't if I tried.'
May was pushed into the shower, and then Dawn turned on the water, wetting May's hair before scrubbing it down heavily.
'Oh, honey, if I get restless. Baby, you're not that kind.'
Gary then put some face mask on Drew; Drew spat out what got in his mouth, and then Gary put cucumbers on his eyes. Gary then took out an electric face scrubber, and then started rubbing Drew's face rather hard.
'Don't go breaking my heart. You take the weight off of me.'
Meanwhile, Dawn was helping May wax. With each round, May was in more and more pain, but still got all of her unneeded hair off.
'Oh, honey, when you knock on my door. Oh, I gave you my key.'
Drew had some shaving cream on his face, and was gently shaving, while Dawn put some eyeliner on May.
'Whoo-hoo. Nobody knows it.'
Drew was shinning his shoes with the shoe-shinning cloth that he had, and Gary gave him a thumbs up when he saw how sparkling the shoes were.
'When I was down, I was your clown.'
Meanwhile, Dawn was filling May's toenails, who found it ticklish, and she was giggling.
'Right from the start, I gave you my heart.'
Drew was at his vanity, and he took out some deodorant, and put it on his underarms, and he smiled.
'Oh… I gave you my heart.'
May was having Dawn apply her makeup, and then when she looked in the mirror, May hugged her best friend, and she smiled.
'Don't go breaking my heart.'
Drew was spraying rose cologne on him, while May put on some sakura perfume herself, and then the two were brushing their hair, and after a while, they threw the brushes down, and their friends examined them. Dawn smiled and gave May a thumbs up while Gary did the same for Drew.
'I won't go breaking your heart. Don't go breaking my, don't go breaking my, don't go breaking my heart. Don't go breaking my, don't go breaking my, (I won't go breaking you heart) don't go breaking my heart. Don't go breaking my (I won't go breaking your heart), don't go breaking my heart. Don't go breaking my heart.'
Drew left the house, with Gary giving him a thumbs up for good luck, while Dawn did the same for May.
May and Drew then snuck out of their houses, and then they both made their way to where they first met. However, neither one of them knew that a guard from the Hayden family was following Drew, and a guard from the Maple family was about to follow May...
Drew got there first, and decided to practice what he would say to May when they saw each other.
"Hey, May… You're looking beautiful today, as always… SO… I'll bet it hurt when you fell from heaven… Oh, no, that won't work. So…" Drew said, berating himself for using such cheesy lines.
"Drew, are you okay?" May said, sneaking up behind him.
"Ah!" Drew said, surprised. "Oh, I've never been better."
However, he leaned on some rocks, and he ended up causing a mini landslide, which both he and May ran from.
"You okay?" Drew asked.
May nodded, and said, "I'm okay. I just hope no one heard that."
"We're very far off. I highly doubt anyone's going to come to investigate." Drew said.
"Drew… I have a confession to make." May said.
"I do, too…" Drew said.
"I told someone about us!" They both said, simultaneously.
"Oh… Um, I just told Gary Oak, my best friend." Drew said, rubbing the back of his head.
"I told Dawn Berlitz, who's my best friend." May said.
"So, no one in our families knows about us… That's relieving." Drew said, sitting on the grass.
May sat down, too.
"I just hope no one from our families finds out," May said. "Or who knows how it will end? This is just Romeo and Juliet in the real world."
"Certainly no happy ending in that story," Drew said. "But this is our story. We won't let that happen."
May nodded, and said, "I just never imagined I could fall in love with a Hayden."
"And me fall in love with a Maple." Drew said, with a light chuckle.
"If only there was a way for us to stay together without… Anyone knowing." May said, sighing.
Dawn, and Gary both followed their friends, just to make sure no one figured them out, and then they were rustling in the bushes.
May and Drew then held on to each other when they heard this, and then Drew said, "Don't worry, May! Whoever it is, I'll teach them not to mess with our love!"
However, the ones who came out of the bushes, were Dawn on one side, and Gary on the other side.
"Dawn?" May asked.
"Gary?" Drew inquired.
"Oh, phew…" May said. "I thought you were someone from one of our families looking for us."
"I just got concerned," Dawn said. "But who's this?"
"My name is Gary Oak," Gary said. "I came here to check on Drew."
"Nice to know we have some allies." Drew said.
"We heard the whole thing," Dawn said. "I wish there was a way for you two to stay together in secret."
"I concur," Gary said. "There's no point with this feud anymore."
Soon, there was a flock of Butterfree up in the sky overhead. Each one had a partner with them, and they were flying off to who-knows-where, and then Drew had an idea.
"You know how when Butterfree mate and then migrate, there's no telling where they go?" Drew inquired.
May nodded.
"What if you and I left, and… And never went back?" Drew inquired.
"Don't go back? But what about our families?" May asked.
"Truth be told, we're adversaries over on each other's properties, but elsewhere… Anywhere else, we're a perfect match," Drew said, as he took May's hands. He then got on one knee. "May, will you leave town with me?"
"Yes…" May said, smiling happily.
"Go for it!" Dawn said, cheering.
"I'm all for it! We'll figure out what to do about your parents… Once they find out you're gone, I'm just nervous the feud will get worse. They're each going to think the other family did something to the two of you." Gary said.
May and Drew, deciding on leaving, then held each other's hands, and then Drew pulled May into a hug.
Neither of them knew that the guard from the Hayden family had just found them, and saw what was going on.
May and Drew, looking at each other with love in their eyes, and as they were about to kiss, the guard interrupted, shouting, "MASTER ANDREW!"
Everyone then looked in the guard's direction, and said, "What are you doing?!"
May swallowed a lump in her throat, and Drew hugged May tighter, and gave the guard an angry look, while saying, "I offer no excuses! But I will say this much; I'm in love with May Maple! That's why I'll challenge any protests!"
May gasped when she heard this, and then May said, "Drew…"
"Get them!" The guard shouted, as he and a few others chased after them.
"Herdier, let's go!" The guards shouted, sending out their Loyal Dog Pokémon.
"May, Drew, hurry and go! Dawn and I will handle this!" Gary said, taking out a Poké Ball, as did Dawn.
"May, let's go!" Drew shouted.
May nodded, and hand-in-hand, May and Drew ran off.
"Umbreon, let's go!" Gary shouted, sending out Umbreon.
"Togekiss, Spotlight!" Dawn said, sending out Togekiss.
May and Drew kept running, and they were still holding hands.
"May, do you have your Pokémon?" Drew asked.
"All of them. You?" May inquired.
"Yes, I have them, too!" Drew said.
"What's going on here?!" A voice boomed.
Out came Petalburg Gym Leader, Norman Maple… May's father.
"D-D-D-D-D-D-D-Dad?!" May shouted, very upset.
"Sir, your daughter has been seduced by this wicked Hayden!" The head guard from the Maple residence said.
"Beg your pardon?! What do you mean 'seduced'?!" Drew shouted, upset.
"Wicked?! You have GOT to be kidding!" May shouted.
"I won't allow anyone to take advantage of my daughter, you horrid Hayden!" Norman shouted, as he took out his Poké Ball. "Slaking, let's go!"
"Slaking!" Slaking shouted, as it emerged from its Poké Ball.
"C-C-C-Crud!" May shouted, hiding behind Drew.
"What's the matter, May?" Drew inquired.
"Dad only uses Slaking either in a very tough Gym Battle, or… If he's SERIOUSLY ticked!" May stuttered.
"Then I'll fight back! Flygon, go!" Drew shouted.
Drew sent out his Flygon, who roared.
May was freaking out on the inside. She secretly hoped Drew would win, but the last thing she wanted was her father to ground her permanently.
"Alright, Slaking, let's show this Hayden not to mess with the Maple family's daughter!" Norman shouted. "Focus Punch!"
"Flygon, dodge it!" Drew shouted.
As Slaking's fist started to glow white, and started to punch at Drew, Flygon flew above, and did some spins, before Drew shouted, "Dragonbreath!"
Flygon released a bright blue beam of air at Slaking, landing a hit, but this only angered Norman, and he shouted, "I won't let this happen! Slaking, Hyper Beam!"
"Flamethrower!" Drew shouted.
An orange ball appeared in Slaking's mouth and then it fired an orange beam of energy at Flygon, who fired an orange beam of fire at the Hyper Beam, countering it, and causing the dust to explode.
"Alright, now while Slaking's resting, use Sandstorm!" Drew shouted.
Using its wings, Flygon whipped up a tornado of sand at Slaking.
"Since Slaking's not a Ground, Rock, or Steel Pokémon, it will take damage gradually," Drew said. "Now, Steel Wing!"
"Slaking, get out of there!" Norman commanded.
Unfortunately, it was in vain; Slaking was still resting from the Hyper Beam.
Flygon rammed Slaking with wings that were glowing white.
Slaking was soon prepared for another move, and Norman commanded, "Focus Punch!"
Slaking lunged at Flygon with a glowing white fist, and then while Flygon flew up to dodge it, the Focus Punch was heading straight for May.
"MAY!" Drew shouted, as he shoved May out of the way, and then was hit by the Focus Punch right in the stomach himself.
"Drew, no!" May shouted, as tears were in her eyes. Drew tumbled to the ground, clutching his stomach, in pain.
"Slaking, that's enough!" Norman said.
May ran over to Drew, and got down on her knees, worried about Drew.
"Drew! Are you okay?! Drew!" May said, as she shook Drew by the shoulders, and Drew was still groaning and grimacing in pain.
"Well, that Focus Punch was completely uncalled for, but still, it showed Drew not to mess with your feelings," Norman said, approaching May, before taking her arm. "Let's go home."
May yanked her arm out of Norman's hand, before turning to him, tears in her arms, and shouted, "NO! I'll never… EVER… Leave Drew's side!"
"But May… He's a Hayden!" Norman said.
"I couldn't care less about that!" May said, as tears fell from her face onto Drew's cheeks.
Pulling Drew up to face him, May said, "Drew, please! Speak to me!"
"May… I'm glad… You're safe…" Drew said, opening his eyes.
"Drew!" May said, tears in her eyes, but still relieved.
She kissed Drew on the lips, and Drew returned it, while tears were in their eyes, mostly May's, and then Drew fell unconscious again.
"No… NO! Drew… Stay with me! Please!" May said, as she shook Drew, trying to get him to wake up.
Just then, Dawn and Gary ran on the scene, with Umbreon and Togekiss still with them.
"Dawn! Gary!" May said, concerned.
"We managed to drive the guards off!" Dawn said.
"I have to say, your Togekiss' Aura Sphere was amazing, Dawn. So was her Dazzling Gleam." Gary said.
"Thanks, Gary. Umbreon's Shadow Ball was also stunning." Dawn said, smiling.
However, they managed to snap out of it long enough to see Drew in May's arms, injured.
"What happened out here?" Dawn asked worried.
"Ask my father." May said, pouring venom into the sentence.
Dawn and Gary then looked at Norman in heated expectance. He recalled Slaking to its Poké Ball, and then said, "I… Uh… It was an accident, I swear!"
"Drew took the bullet of that Focus Punch for me… Even though that Focus Punch was meant for Flygon… Drew!" May said, crying.
Drew coughed a little, but he was fine, just out of breath and the wind was knocked out of him.
"I was afraid this would happen…" Gary said. "Drew's always been the kind of guy who takes the brunt of things meant for the people he cares about. And this is the perfect example. If not for this moronic and useless feud, you and Drew would be living happily ever after, May! This isn't fair!"
Norman was shocked to hear more about Drew's character.
May decided to do something about the situation; she turned to her father, and said, "Dad, how could you?! I know it was an accident, but you have Drew all wrong!"
May was still crying, when some more of the Hayden family guards, as well as Drew's father, came on the scene, and saw what was happening.
"Maple, what did you do to my Andrew?!" Drew's father, Arvin, shouted.
"Hey, this was a complete accident! Moreover, what's the big idea, sending your son to play around with my daughter's heart like that?!" Norman shot back.
"I did no such thing! If anything, I'll bet you had your daughter come and seduce Drew!" Arvin said.
May was still crying, and then she took out a Poké Ball, before saying, "Venusaur!"
She sent out her Venusaur, and then she told it, "Use Toxic… On ME."
Venusaur was shocked to hear this, but May said, "You heard me! Toxic!"
Venusaur shook her head.
"Fine… Return." May said, putting Venusaur back in its Ball.
"What were you thinking, May?!" Dawn said.
"Since father hurt the one I love… I was going to hurt him even worse!" May said, tearing up.
"But you can't do that! One accidental Focus Punch to the stomach and deliberately poisoning yourself via your Pokémon doesn't even it out! It outweighs what this feud has caused!" Gary protested.
May, with tears staining her cheeks, took out another Poké Ball, and said, "Skitty, Heal Bell!"
Skitty came out of her ball, and then she waved her tail, that was sparkling with a baby blue light, and then the light was transferred to Drew, who started glowing, and then he opened his eyes.
"Drew! You're okay!" May said, as she hugged Drew, while putting Skitty back in its Poké Ball.
"I'm just glad you're all right." Drew said, as he hugged back.
Drew and May then stood up, and then Arvin said, "Good show, boy! Seducing the Maple's daughter was just what we needed to get the upper hand in this feud!"
"Oh, you want something like that? Well, I have something to say to you father," Drew said, as he let go of May, and looked at his father. "I'm in love with May Maple!"
"Same goes for me," May said. "I love Drew Hayden! I don't care what you have to say about it!"
"And I'm backing May up all the way!" Dawn said.
"Same here!" Gary said.
Drew then hugged May, and gave her a kiss on her lips, which May melted in to, and then they were truly bound together. Drew held May by the shoulders, and May hugged Drew by the neck, and then they kept themselves in that position.
"See? Look what your feud has caused! Drew was heavily wounded, May nearly resorted to near-suicide, and now they're so in love with each other that they were willing to run away and never go back!" Gary said.
"What…?" Norman said.
"That's right, Mr. Maple! I can't believe that you hurt May's one chance at love!" Dawn shouted back.
"The both of them have every right to leave! Don't bother even trying to convince them otherwise! You wretches!" Gary said. "Arcanine!"
Gary then sent out his Arcanine, and then both he and Dawn gathered around May and Drew while saying, "Arcanine, use Teleport, and get us out of here."
"Hold on! I won't allow this romance to happen!" Arvin said.
"For once, we agree on something!" Norman said.
"Too late," May said. "You lost your right to say anything when you hurt Drew!"
Arcanine then roared, and then everyone vanished into thin air.
"May!" "Drew!" Norman and Arvin said.
Arcanine then brought everyone to a forested area very far away from Petalburg City.
"This should be remote enough for you two to stay together without interference." Gary said.
"I just hope our families stop feuding… Then maybe we can go back someday." May said, as she and Drew were holding hands.
"Personally, I hope they never stop…" Drew said.
"What?" May asked.
"It just gives us more reason to stay here… And stay together." Drew said, before kissing May's cheek.
"Thanks…" Dawn said. "Gary and I will head back to Petalburg and try to stop that feud. The two of you can decide what to do next."
"Thanks, Dawn… Gary…" May said, as she and Drew kissed once more.
Back with Norman, he was sitting in the house, depressed; he had lost his daughter, and her younger brother, Max, was almost crying when he heard what had happened.
"I don't believe this…" Norman said. Ironically, Arvin was in the house, too. They both decided to sit down and discuss what to do.
They knew they had to reconcile to bring the kids back, but other than that, it was going to be impossible to find them.
Dawn and Gary then came back into the house via Arcanine's Teleport.
"You! Where have you taken May?" Norman demanded of Gary.
"And where's Drew?!" Arvin asked.
"We're not telling you! This feud has gone on for so long that you don't even know how it started anymore! So… Until you end it, May and Drew are staying where they are!" Gary said.
"They're right…" Arvin said. "This feud has to end."
"Right," Norman said. "I understand."
"Good. Now that that's settled, we'll bring you to May and Drew," Gary said. "Arcanine, you know what to do!"
Arcanine roared to the air, and then in a flash of light, they were teleported to May and Drew's location.
May and Drew were in each other's arms, hugging, with Drew's hand on May's head, and May's head on his chest.
"Oh, May… Finally, we can be together with no one bothering us." Drew said.
"I don't mind Dawn and Gary paying us visits, but you're right…" May said.
"See how happy they are?" Gary said. "If not for this feud, things would have gone a lot smoother."
Norman sadly nodded, and then he and Arvin approached.
Hearing them coming, Drew held May protectively, and then he told Norman, "What do you want?"
"Forgiveness," Norman said. "We nearly lost our only kids because of this feud… And we've finally decided to end it. We'll break it to the family once the two of you come home."
May and Drew relaxed a little bit, and then Drew hugged May tighter as he said, "May, I love you!"
"I don't want to be separated from you!" May said, about to cry.
"May…" Drew said.
"Drew…" May told her.
They then kissed once more, and then soon, Arcanine used Teleport again. The group then ended up in front of both families, kissing still, and then everyone started cheering, and whistling in joy of the occasion.
"The feud is OVER! We are now united! May Maple, and Drew Hayden! They've fallen in love, and they have become the reason this feud has ended!" Norman said, as he gestured over to May and Drew.
"I don't know… I prefer this conclusion over the real Romeo and Juliet ending." Drew said.
May nodded, and then they both started to kiss once more. Roserade and Beautifly came out of their Poké Balls on their own, and smiled, happy for their trainers.
That's that for this one-shot! This is the longest one I've done for this story… Sheesh… For those of you who have seen "Gnomeo And Juliet", you all know what REALLY happens. And no, I don't mean an unhappy ending. Like I said, you probably know it. For those who haven't seen it, I suggest watching it. It's my real-world BFFA's (Best Friend Forever After) favorite movie! And I see why. It's just so romantic… Albeit the feud a little more comical.
Now, as I'm sure you've noticed, a lot of these one shots I'm writing tend to portray Gary Oak as Drew's best friend. Reason? Well, they both have their cocky and arrogant sides, they tend to be teasing towards their rivals, and they're both being quite popular with the girls (Though consistent watchers of this show have noticed that Gary has lost his fan club's presence in his appearances). I thought they'd be good pals, with that much in common. Do you see what I mean?
