Here's the next one! The gist of this one is that May is a teen singer and Pokémon Model, or Poké Model, with her own girls' band, consisting of May on vocals, with Misty on drums and Dawn on guitar, and they switch up instruments from time to time depending on the song, and when the need comes, they all sing together. So, when May's tasked with modeling for a commercial with Drew, how will things go? You'll have to find out!
Contains the "H2O: Just Add Water" opening song, called "No Ordinary Girl", and "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel from the recent Disney movie, "Frozen".
This one-shot was inspired and loosely based off the manga "Love Lab", which is a manga of one-shots. This particular chapter in the manga is called "Merry Kiss", which is the second of the one-shots in that particular manga.
"Nice work, May!" A girl with midnight blue hair and eyes said, as she approached a girl with brown hair and blue eyes, named May. "Your latest album is a hit! Your expressions are so intense that it's as if I can read your face and the photos are saying something to me!"
"Thanks, Dawn," May said, as she was preparing the microphones. "But we've got some work of our own to do. Where's Misty?"
"She's tuning up the drums," Dawn said. There was a Piplup by her side. "It was a great idea to have our Pokémon perform on stage with us as well as using their combination moves for special affects to make our shows better."
"Thanks," May said. "But all of the Pokémon get the credit. If not for practicing during our free time, our shows would flop."
"Sorry I'm late!" A girl with red hair in a side ponytail and viridian eyes said, as she came over, with the drums all set up.
"You're right on time, Misty," May said. "We'd better get to rehearsing."
However, May's phone went off, and then she picked up to see it was a text from her manager; she turned to the girls, and said, "Let's make this quick. I have to be at the modeling agency within two hours."
"Then why are we gawking here?" Dawn said. "Let's go!"
"Right!" May and Misty said, as they got to work.
Misty started up the beat on the drums, and then Dawn started to play her guitar to get the music going. May used her hands to keep time by snapping her fingers, and soon, she got the timing just right and started to sing.
"I've got a special power, that I'm not afraid to use. Every waking hour, I discover something new." May sang, starting the music up.
"So come on, this is my adventure. This is my fantasy. It's all about living in the ocean, being wild and free!" The trio sang.
The music was turned up, with Piplup using its Bubblebeam to create a sparkling rain of sorts while May's Wartortle created a little water show behind the girls to emphasis the song being about living in the water.
"Cause I'm no ordinary girl, I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or see, I've got the power if I just believe! Cause I'm no ordinary girl! I'm from the deep blue underworld. Land or sea, the world's my oyster, I'm the pearl! No ordinary girl!" The trio sang, with May's voice in the front, and Dawn and Misty's voices in the background.
May continued to sing, as she continued the song, "We've got to stick together. Cause the best things come in three. I want it to last forever, all the magic and fun at sea!"
"So come on, this is our adventure! There's no telling where we'll go! But all I want is just to live amongst the H2O!" The trio of girls sang together.
"Cause I'm no ordinary girl. I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, I've got the power if I just believe! Cause I'm no ordinary girl! I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, the world's my oyster, I'm the pearl! No ordinary girl!" May sang, with Misty and Dawn in the background.
However, what no one knew was that there was someone off-stage, watching them, but paying special attention to May. The person then left the stage almost silently and then left the trio as if nothing was happening.
"So come along, it just gets better! So much to do and just so little time! Cause it all depends on whether, you want to leave the land above behind!" May sang.
"Cause I'm no ordinary girl. I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, I've go the power if I just believe! Cause I'm no ordinary girl! I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, the world's my oyster, I'm the pearl! No ordinary girl!" May sang, and then the trio started to sing together.
"Cause I'm no ordinary girl. I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, I've go the power if I just believe! Cause I'm no ordinary girl! I'm from the deep blue underworld! Land or sea, the world's my oyster, I'm the pearl! No ordinary girl!" The trio sang together, and then they wrapped up the song by having May snap her fingers, and then the music was cut and the Pokémon stopped with the performance.
"Nice work, girls," May said. "And now that that's done, I have to get going to the agency. See you later."
May then put her Wartortle back in its Poké Ball and then left the auditorium while Dawn and Misty cleaned up from rehearsal, and fed their Pokémon.
May made it to the agency, and once she got inside, she saw a boy with green hair and green eyes sitting on the director's chair, having makeup put on and his hair brushed by some of the staff.
"Ah, May, you're early, as usual," Her manager, a woman with pink hair and blue eyes, named Solidad, said, as she approached. "This is Drew Hayden. I'm sure you know who he is, right?"
"Um…" May said, taking a good look at Drew. "Nope. Don't recognize him from anywhere."
Everyone in the room gasped, with the exception of Drew, and then one of the makeup artists said, "You don't know Drew?! He's the #1 teen male model in the world! And you're working with him for your next ad!"
"I am?" May said, with a question mark over her head.
Solidad nodded, and said, "Yes. The ad is to promote the newest line of diamond jewelry from Poké Chic. We'll need Beautifly for this one."
"Okay, then," May said. "Beautifly, on stage!"
May's Beautifly was, for lack of a better word, gorgeous. Beautifly was May's main modeling Pokémon, but depending on the type of job May had to do, she used different Pokémon from her party.
For beautiful and elegant jobs, she used Beautifly. For more natural and vegetation-based shots, she had her Venusaur in the shot. So on, the more action-based shots depicted her with Blaziken, the shots targeted for younger girls that preferred cute things had her use Skitty; food-based ads and albums had her with her Munchlax; water and marine-based jobs had May use Wartortle, and winter-based work had May work alongside her Glaceon.
"So, you're May?" Drew said, once the makeup was done, and he approached.
May nodded. She was not really impressed with his face, but was still blushing otherwise, either from awkwardness for not know who he was, or because it was the first time she had to model with a boy.
Drew was looking up and down May, as if examining her, and then he said, "You're pretty simple-looking for a model."
"Beg your pardon?!" May said, immediately getting angry.
"Hahahaha! I like girls who get riled up easily." Drew said, and then walked into the changing room.
May then got really upset with his comments, and then she said, "Oh, I will NOT let that slide! Solidad, I'm going to give it my all, like always!"
May then ran into the dressing room, angry and motivated to get to work.
Solidad merely sweat dropped at the event, and then told May, "Remember: go for broke, as usual!"
"Right!" May said, from inside the changing room.
May came out of the room, wearing a casual pink jacket and scarf over a red shirt. She wore short, denim jeans with a pink belt and heart-shaped buckle, and her shoes were high-heel, knee-high boots. May's hair was let down and it draped over her shoulders.
She looked over to see Drew in similar-styled clothing, only with long jeans and ankle-high men's boots and a leather jacket, as well as a casual scarf. He had a Butterfree flying around him, and then he said, with a big dose of arrogance, "I would have used Roserade, but I thought since you were using Beautifly, I thought I'd level the playing field by also using a Butterfly Pokémon."
May subtly rolled her eyes at this, and then she said, "If this wasn't a photo shoot, I'd be calling you out on that sort of arrogance."
This caught Drew off-guard; no one had ever spoken to him like that before. He then shook his head and let it go.
The two then got to work, with poses of the two of them as a happy couple, with the boy giving the girl a diamond necklace or pair of earrings. One pose had May being hugged by Drew, and wearing the diamond earrings; Beautifly was wearing a diamond necklace made specifically for Pokémon, while Butterfree cuddled up to Beautifly.
"Okay, now the two of you should get a little more intimate with each other for this next shot." The photographer said.
'What?!' May thought, in a mild panic. Her Beautifly sensed this and got nervous, but then May calmed down, ready to get back to work.
Drew hugged May by the waist, closer to her hip, pulled a little tighter, and May became uncomfortable and embarrassed, but remembered to pose correctly; the color in her cheeks managed to die down and then the two models made a perfect pose with each other.
"That's a wrap," The photographer said. "Good work."
May sighed in relief and then said, "That was too close, Beautifly. I almost lost it."
"You're actually pretty good." Drew said, as he walked past.
"Excuse me?!" May said, really angry with Drew.
Drew then was about to walk out the door, when he turned back to May and said, "See you… Babe."
Drew then left the building, and then May, angry, then said, "B-B-BABE?!"
Later, May met up with Dawn and Misty for another rehearsal for their next concert, and she vented to the girls about what happened.
"YOU MODELED WITH DREW HAYDEN?!" Misty and Dawn shouted.
May was gulping down her juice like nuts, since she was so upset about Drew's behavior. Taking a break from drinking to breath, she then said, "I think that was his name…"
"He's famous," Dawn said. "He's got a reputation for being an amazing model, and he often organizes his own ad campaigns. Not only do girls love him, but boys also envy him."
"He's a good model, true, but he's so arrogant, cocky…" May said. "He even said he would use his Butterfree to "level the playing field". We weren't even competing!"
"Drew said something like that?" Misty asked.
May nodded before saying, "Anyway, let's stop talking about Drew and rehearse."
However, she got a text from Solidad, saying that she had to get to the studio early the next day. May said, "Girls, we may have to postpone tomorrow's rehearsal."
"What's the matter? Does Solidad need you early at the studio?" Dawn said.
"Apparently," May said. "And why do I get the sensation that I'm gonna have to work with Drew again?"
"Maybe you're still upset about the job today," Misty said. "Don't dwell on it. What are the chances you'd work with Drew again, anyway?"
"Pretty slim, with the way he commented on my modeling." May said, rolling her eyes, before putting away the phone.
"We have to rehearse again tonight or else we won't do well at the concert tomorrow," Misty said. "Let's give it our all."
The trio then nodded, and got to work.
The next day...
"Are you sure about this, Solidad?" May said, inside the changing room. "This outfit feels strange."
"This is crucial for your work. It's for the new line of clothing and makeup titled "Lumineon Mermaid" from "Marine Beautician", where the specialty and theme is water. You'll need Wartortle for this," Solidad said. "And I'm sure Misty would be going nuts over this, seeing as there's Water Pokémon in the shoots."
"But I have to work with DREW again…" May said, spitting venom in the name.
"Now remember, all of this is work. You told me that like or dislike, we're all on the same team, so there's no point fighting." Solidad said.
"You're right." May said.
Coming out of the dressing room, May was wearing eye makeup in blue hues, minus the lipstick for obvious reasons, and her dress was an aquamarine bikini with a long skirt, and it was covered in blue sequins, which made the dress sparkle; this made May look like a mermaid. May's hair was styled with waterfall curls and it was tied up with a false blue anemone, and May was also barefoot.
"Looking good," Drew said, as he came out of his dressing room. He was wearing neon blue swimming trunks while barefoot, and some of the accessories he was wearing on his body were from the male section of the fashion line. "Albeit, not as good as me."
"Don't give me that arrogance, Drew," May said. "Let's just get this briefing over with."
Sitting next to each other, the producer of the commercial then said, "Okay, so the theme is "Love of the ocean-bound beauty brings together two worlds"."
May was reading over the scripted scene and was okay with the majority of her scenes.
"The overall storyline is that a young boy, played by Drew, has fallen in love with the beautiful mermaid of the ocean, played by May. Every day, the young boy comes to the beach to see the mermaid from a distance, always watching her feed her Wartortle, played by May's Wartortle. One day, he works up the courage to go swimming in the water, where he finally meets the mermaid face-to-face. Then, they kiss, sealing their mutual love for each other, and renders the mermaid human." The producer said.
'K-K-K-KISS?! Oh, snap, I've never done a kiss scene before!' May thought, going red in the face, close to panicking.
"This is going to be great," Drew said, wrapping his arms around May's shoulder. "Just like I wanted it. The producer got the best model and photographer for this shoot."
"What?" May said, in a panic.
"I noticed you were insanely uncomfortable in our last shoot together," Drew said, with a glare. "When we do this shoot, I don't want you screwing up!"
"I won't disappoint!" May said, standing up.
"Your kiss together is only one scene of many," The producer said. "So I suggest you go on a date together to make things easier."
'Go on a date with this conceited jerk? Well… If I really have to…' May thought, sweat dropping.
"Not today, though," Solidad said, as she looked over May's schedule. "She's got a concert tonight with her band, the PokéGirls."
"Oh, yes, but Drew has nothing else planned, so maybe after the concert?" The producer said.
"DEFINITELY after the concert." May said, as she stood up, and then left the room to go to rehearsal.
"This is the first time May is doing a kiss scene in her work. So, she's probably a little intimidated." Solidad explained.
Drew was looking in the direction May had gone in with intensity.
He secretly took a slip of paper out of his pocket: it was a front-row ticket to the PokéGirls concert.
Back at the stage, May was wearing her stage costume, which consisted of formal clothing, which was a dress, high heel shoes, and only one wrist glove. What no one knew, was that she was wearing her real stage costume underneath. She had her hair up in a bun and May had her Glaceon out of its Poké Ball.
"Ready, May?" Dawn said, wearing her stage costume.
"Yes." May said.
"Remember, our opening song is the most emotional and really lets you cut your emotions loose and lets them go," Dawn said. "I'm sure you can let your frustration against Drew out."
"I plan to," May said. "I just hope he doesn't have the arrogance to come."
"You're still doing the shoot with him, right?" Misty asked.
"Yes, I am," May said. "But that kiss… I'm not too happy about it."
"It's only work, right?" Dawn said.
"It's my first kiss, nonetheless. A kiss is a kiss is a kiss." May said.
"Touche…" Misty and Dawn said.
The curtain soon opened; fans were cheering, and they were all chanting the band name. Misty, May, and Dawn were at their instruments. Rather than drums, this time, Misty was at a piano, while Dawn was on a violin.
May was at the microphone, and she was ready to let her emotions loose. May had Glaceon putting on the snow special effects by using blizzard and letting the snow fall down on the girls; Misty began playing.
May took a deep breath and then started to sing. The song was based upon May's emotions when she first told her parents about her decision to become a model and singer and had Misty and Dawn in on it. That, and she knew she would get the cold shoulder every now and again, but she did not mind.
"The snow glows white on the mountain night. Not a footprint to be seen," May sang, with Dawn on violin and Misty on piano. "A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the queen."
Everyone in the audience went quiet to listen.
What none of the girls knew was that Drew was in the audience, too. In the front row, at that. However, May was too focused on letting her emotions go through her vocals to notice him.
"The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn't keep it in. Heaven knows I've tried…" May sang, cueing Glaceon to use its Blizzard.
"Don't let them in, don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be. Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know…" May sang, remembering when she was always on her best behavior, but then one day she had finally snapped. May then took off her glove and then threw it behind her. "Well, now they know!"
May made motions with her hands while putting her strength into her voice, while letting fake tears shed, on cue, while singing, "Let it go. Let it go. Can't hold it back anymore! Let it go. Let it go. Turn away and slam the door!"
May then looked into the crowd with false anger in her face, while thinking about the time her parents would give her the cold shoulder for very good reasons, but it never bothered her.
Drew was watching, with shock that she had this much passion that she was letting go.
"I don't care what they're going to say!" May sang, while thinking of Drew's insults, which only made her angry. "Let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway."
Misty and Dawn then turned up the tempo just a little bit, and May continued, thinking of when she left the studio earlier that day to come to the concert. She then remembered how much better she felt being away from Drew at the moment. She then felt ready to just be happy and let loose.
"It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all!" May said, remembering how nervous she was about the kiss.
"It's time to see what I can do; to test the limits and break through! No right, no wrong, no rules for me! I'm free!" May sang, with a smile, remembering her first modeling job and how proud her parents were of her when she finally broke out of her shell.
"Let it go, let it go! I'm one with the wind and sky! Let it go, let it go! You'll never see me cry!" May sang, a little louder, with pride and joy in her voice.
She then stomped her foot beside her, singing, "Here I stand, and here I'll stay! Let the storm rage on!"
Drew's eyes were sparkling as he listened to May sing.
May then paused a little bit as Misty and Dawn played their instruments, and Drew kept staring at May intensely.
"My power flurries through the air into the ground. My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around! And one thought crystalizes like an icy blast!" May sang, as Glaceon turned up the power on her blizzard, causing the effects to become more realistic.
"I'm never going back! The past is in the past!" May sang, as she threw one of her accessories away. She then brought her hand up to her hair tie.
Taking the ribbon out and letting her hair down, she sang, "Let it go! Let it go! And I'll rise like the break of dawn! Let it go! Let it go!"
May then took off her formal dress to reveal that underneath was a two piece, red dress that let her naval show, with red high heels, net stockings, and then went back to singing, "That perfect girl is gone! Here I stand in the light of day! Let the storm rage on~!"
May then took a breath before singing the last lines, "The cold never bothered me anyway."
May then snapped a finger to cue Glaceon to stop the blizzard, and then everyone was ready to move on to the next number.
They were starting to sing the next song, and May started off with, "I've got a special power, that I'm not afraid to use…"
Drew was looking at May in awe, totally surprised that she had this much passion within her.
After the concert, May changed clothes, and then told Misty and Dawn, "See you girls tomorrow."
May was about to leave when she heard an all-too familiar voice say to her, "Hey."
May turned around to see Drew, and then she said, "You! Why are YOU here?"
"I saw your concert," Drew said. "But I'm really here for the date we have to do before our shoot."
"Do we have to do that now?!" May complained.
"Yes, we do," Drew said, taking May's hand. "Come on."
Drew then brought May to a movie theater, and then he sat May down in a seat next to him. May was trying her best not to snap and literally let her emotions go in front of Drew, especially not in a public place.
"So…" May said, trying to make a conversation.
"Is it really so bad to see me?" Drew said, with another arrogant air.
"It is, at times," May said, a little upset. "But bringing girls to movies… Is that customary on dates for you?"
"I've never had any time to go on dates." Drew said, as he sipped his water.
'I knew it…' May thought. 'It's always work-related with him.'
"Oh, really…" May said.
"What was that?" Drew said.
"Oh, nothing, nothing, nothing at all…" May said, trying to compose herself.
"Is it, really?" Drew said.
May nodded; she said, "I wonder… I'll bet all the parties you have are super-fabulous, aren't they?"
"My family has never had a party for the holidays, or even for the sake of it," Drew said, catching May off-guard. "My parents and I are always so busy with work, we never have time for each other. Not that I like spending time with them."
'Drew…' May thought, feeling bad for him.
Drew then put his face closer to May, and put his hand on her cheek. He was beginning to lean in; May thought, 'No, no, no, not now!'
However, the movie stopped in time; the light came on, and then Drew stopped, seeming to snap out of his daze, before standing up.
Drew then left the room, and then May shouted after him before following him outside.
May then said, "Drew… I feel horrible."
This got Drew's attention.
"You've been alone most of your life… Is that why you've kept yourself busy with work?" May inquired.
Drew then grit his teeth before turning May around, saying, "That's pathetic."
"Excuse me?" May said, cocking an eyebrow.
"Are you just being a liar? Just to make me feel better?" Drew said, and then grabbed May by the wrists.
Before May could answer, Drew pulled her closer, and then said, "Why not kiss me, then? Out of pity."
Drew moved his mouth close, about to kiss, before saying, in song, "The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn't keep it in. Heaven knows I've tried."
Drew then stopped, and saw that May was crying, saying, "What's the point in that?! It's meaningless! That would just be the two of us bringing our lips together!"
Drew then yanked his arms away and turned around. May, crying, said, "I don't get you one bit! If you hate me so much, why choose ME to model for this ad campaign in the first place?"
"Because I not only saw your concert, but I also saw your most recent photo album," Drew said, causing May to perk up at the sound of it. "That photo of you on the beach that had you looking into the camera… That one stood out. Your eyes were telling me something… "Please come for me". After seeing that, I was convinced that I would be able to do this campaign well if I had you as a model."
"Is that all?" May asked, crossing her arms.
"Yes," Drew said. "And I hope the two of us can portray love as intense as that in the shoot tomorrow."
Drew then left, and May thought, 'That was the photo that had me portray looking at my one-and-only with my eyes, trying to tell him something…'
The next day, May and Drew were in their costumes, and then the makeup artists were putting on the waterproof makeup that was to be in the actual makeup line.
"Now it's time for the final scene. The kiss." The producer said.
'Here goes nothing.' May thought.
May was "swimming" near the rock, and was feeding some "oceanic" Pokémon Food to her Wartortle, who was in the water beside her, eating.
Drew was on the "beach" that was on the set, and was looking at May, with love in his eyes. May was pretending not to notice him, as was part of the script. Drew then dove into the water on the set, and May, as per the script, shied away by swimming behind the rock, where the photo camera for the next shot was.
Drew then swam over to May, and rose up out of the water, facing her. May looked at Drew with loving, yet fearful eyes, something that was partly acting.
'Hey, Drew…' May thought, as she was looking into Drew's eyes. 'Can you feel it? This passion that's flaming up in my heart?'
Drew put his hand on May's cheek, and then started moving his face closer to hers. May smiled, as she then made ready for the big kiss scene.
'I know it…' May thought, as she and Drew locked lips. On cue, their kiss signaled one of the LED lights from under the water to turn on underneath May, as if faking her transformation from human to mermaid.
Once they broke the kiss, the LED light turned off and then Drew, still holding May's hand, brought May ashore, revealing that she had "become" a human. Her Wartortle then came along and stood beside May.
"That's a wrap!" The photographer said.
May soon locked herself in the dressing room, with Wartortle back in its Poké Ball.
"May, are you okay?" Solidad said, as she came inside. "Drew locked himself in the dressing room, too. What happened?"
"Solidad…" May said, about to cry. She remembered what Drew told her the day before: 'Why not kiss me, then? Out of pity.' ' Are you just lying to me because you feel bad?'
"A future for a one-sided romance… That's just a dream." May thought.
"I get it," Solidad said. "You're in love."
"I don't understand," May said. "We met due to the photo shoot on the beach, but I don't know why I fell in love."
"I couldn't guess, myself," Solidad said. "But Drew was the one who asked to do the diamond jewelry photo shoot with you. After that, he designed this whole campaign himself. Script and all."
"What?" May said. She then grabbed her jacket and ran out the door.
Solidad laughed and then she said, "And they need me to play matchmaker… Hahaha."
"So… "That would just be the two of us bringing our lips together", huh?" Drew said, as he looked over the photos.
May then ran into Drew's dressing room, which was pitch dark; she thought, 'If this whole thing was a front to get close to me, then what was the motive?'
"I was hoping for someone to come into my life," Drew said, as he came out of the shadows. "Someone who could see into my heart. And that was you."
May was blushing, as she slowly approached Drew.
"Since that first photo I saw of you, I felt something in me change," Drew said. "To show how much I care, I designed this whole thing."
May blushed harder, and then she started shedding tears; Drew told May, "I love you."
In the background, the song from the previous night's concert was playing the lines, "Let it go. Let it go. Can't hold it back anymore."
'I love you, Drew!' May thought, as she leaped onto Drew and the two of them kissed in an embrace.
