This ContestShipping one-shot is based on the manga one-shot "Junai Bride". If you haven't read it, I suggest reading the manga before reading this one. I do my best to combine the Pokemon universe with this, so if something seems off, don't hesitate to review and let me know.
Okay, for those of you who HAVE read the manga itself, May is dropped into an arranged marriage, and she isn't happy about it one bit (for obvious reasons), but the guy she's wed to is actually a benevolent and considerate boy around her age, and he sees her viewpoint, which surprises May. But what happens when she learns something about the groom that she makes her rethink the situation and her feelings?
Within a hotel, there was a Beautifly flying very quickly through the halls. Whenever a member of the staff cut Beautifly off, Beautifly used its Stun Spore to paralyze them, and then fly off in another direction to try and find a path out of the hotel without it being from the front door.
The Beautifly in question was being followed by a girl in a white wedding dress with pink roses as decoration. She was running, focused on leaving the hotel and getting out of her wedding dress. The Beautifly hovered over a "Staff Only" area, and the girl, with brown hair and blue eyes, jumped the barricade, and then said, "Let's get out of here, Beautifly!"
Beautifly then nodded and flew off in another direction, leading her trainer elsewhere.
"Mademoiselle May, please wait!" A women in a work suit of sorts said, as she tried chasing after May, but was blocked by some of the staff.
"That won't happen!" May shouted back, while she and Beautifly then went onto the railing of a balcony next to a spiral staircase. The twosome then managed to get on the ledge from the railing. "Beautifly, use String Shot on my waist and keep me from falling."
Beautifly nodded and then from its long nose, shot some thread and it wrapped around May's waist. May then started slowly moving on the ledge and did her best NOT to fall.
'I'm May Maple, age 16. My whole life, I haven't had a boyfriend, and it was not supposed to change at all…'
May then had a flashback of her father telling her of what was to come.
~Flashback~
'My parents told me that I was going to be wed to cover a large debt that my father's work as a Gym Leader couldn't cover by itself.'
"You'll be married to the President of the Hayden Foundation, Mr. Drew Hayden! The wealth is going to be great!" Norman, her father told her.
"Wealth is not the issue!" May shouted, in protest.
~Flashback End~
'As if I care! Wealth, Hayden, I could care less about that junk! Being married off like this… And not being able to live a love story of my own… Yuck! NEVER! NO WAY!'
However, May ended up slipping, and she fell. Beautifly tugged on the string, but it broke, and May felt like her life was about to end… But she was caught by something… It felt like strong arms.
May then heard a chuckle behind her, and then she turned her head to see a boy around her age with green eyes and green hair. He was hanging onto the ladder that came down from a helicopter, and then he said, "My bride is such a stubborn beauty."
"Oh, what a relief… The young master caught the bride." One of the attendants from inside the hotel said.
'So… THAT'S Drew Hayden? Is this even real?' May thought, but then realized the situation she was in.
"Hey, let me go! I won't go through with this!" May said, as she struggled to get out of Drew's arms.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you; let you go, I mean," Drew said. "Do you really think it's safe to jump? Because I don't want you getting hurt."
May then saw what Drew was talking about, as she looked down and saw how far up they were from the ground. She then clung onto Drew's tux and screamed in fear. Drew took this in stride, and hugged May closer to him, with a smile. Beautifly then came to May's side and fluttered around to calm her down.
After all of the confusion died down, May was taken to Drew's manor. She was in a very luxurious bedroom, and was sitting on the bed, hugging a pillow. She felt really tired out. Beautifly was on her head to comfort her partner.
"This house is just too huge…" May said, as she then flopped on her back, onto the bed. Beautifly then landed on her feet on the bed, as well, and looked over her partner in concern.
"Oh, Beautifly, does it have to be like this?" May said, before slowly sitting up. "Why did my father have to marry me off like that? It's not fair…"
Beautifly then grew sad, as she felt her partner's sadness, too.
"Look, I get that they needed the cash to keep the house and the Gym, but why use me?" May complained.
Beautifly then felt sad for her partner, as she did not like the situation, either.
"I know! I can run away!" May said, standing up. This earned a questioning look from Beautifly. "Don't you see, Beautifly? If we leave here without a trace, we can leave Hoenn itself and go somewhere so far away that they'll never find us… But then they'll probably send the cops after us to find us and then there will be a big fuss…"
Beautifly and May then hung their heads, and May soon sat back on the bed, frustrated.
She then heard the doorknob getting turned, and in came Drew, in his own, more casual clothes. He then told her, "It's time to get some sleep."
May immediately tensed up at this. She was thinking that Drew was going to try something inappropriate, and then after putting Beautifly back in her Poké Ball, May grabbed the pillow, quickly started for the door, and said, "I-I-I'm going to sleep elsewhere!"
"What?" Drew said, surprised. He then took May by the shoulder, before asking, "What are you talking about?"
May reacted by throwing the pillow in his face, and shouted, "Hands off, you!"
Drew then covered himself with his arm, and kept looking at May in the eye. May, angrily, looked Drew in the eye, her arm still in throwing position, and said, "I'll never be your wife! Fat chance of that happening!"
Drew then reached his hand to May, and then she cowered a bit, ready to be hit… Only, to her surprise, for Drew to put his hand on her head, and then he kindly told her, "I won't touch you at all; no worries."
This surprised May, and then Drew said, "Because… I want your heart."
He then started for the door, and said, "I'll sleep in another room tonight. See you in the morning."
Drew left the room, and May, eyebrow cocked, and touched her head, thinking, 'Okay… 'I want your heart'? What was that?'
"Was he… Serious?" May said aloud. 'Drew Hayden, you're too much of a puzzle for me to figure out!'
Waking up the next day, May went downstairs to see a luxurious breakfast in front of her, consisting of chocolate-chip pancakes, eggs, orange juice, fresh strawberries etc., all made fresh by the house's chefs, and May was really pleased with the food.
"This is delicious!" May said, before shoving a large piece of pancake in her mouth and chewing.
Drew, sitting across from her, watched May eat, contentedly, as if he was happy to see May smiling. May took a look at Drew's facial expression, and saw something in Drew's green eyes that she could not read. She could tell he was in a good mood, but May had the strange sensation that there was something else, but she could not tell what it was.
"What's the matter?" May said, a little nervous.
"Nothing," Drew said. "You just look really happy, and it's nice to see that smile."
May went red in the face, but she continued to eat.
After eating, May went back up to her bedroom. She let Beautifly out of her Poké Ball and then told her partner, "At least my school life won't be any different, minus a few rumors and some drama."
Beautifly nodded, and then landed on May's head.
There was a knock on the door and then in came a maid, who brought in a uniform and said, "Madame, I am here to dress you for school."
"There's no uniform policy at my school." May said, noticing the uniform in the maid's hands.
"Not at the school you're going to. From now on, you'll be at Pokémon Prep." The maid said, holding it up.
"Oh, no, no way! That's NOT going to happen! I don't want to! Do you really expect me to change schools without telling my buddies goodbye?!" May said, upset. Beautifly then flew off of May's head and
"This is the young master's orders." The maid said.
'Drew again, huh?! Just wants to keep me close to show me off, huh?! Not on MY watch!' May thought, angrily.
May immediately got annoyed.
Outside, Drew was about to get into the car to head to school. One of the butlers in the house said, "Have a good day, Master Drew."
Running to the window, May shouted out the window, "Drew Hayden!"
Drew looked up to see May, clearly upset, and then she shouted, "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU, FORCING ME TO SWITCH SCHOOLS! YOU'RE SUCH A TYRANT!"
"Calm down, Madame!" The maid said, trying to placate May.
Drew merely sweat dropped while some of the staff said, "She's energetic this morning, isn't she…"
"She'll be okay…" Drew said, with no change in his facial expression.
May was soon at the school, and then she noticed every girl was in the same fancy dress uniform, as well as many guards around the school's perimeter, as well as the interior and the halls.
May was looking around in the classroom and saw how luxurious the interior design and the food was. She felt really out of her element.
While May looked at her textbook, which, luckily for her, was easy to understand. Another upside to the school was that she was allowed to have her Pokémon out of their Poké Balls, which was a relief for her. She had Beautifly out of its Poké Ball, so that way she would not be in completely unfamiliar territory.
"It's nice to have you with me, Beautifly," May said, a little sadly. "It's too much, what's been going on… Being married to Drew Hayden, then having to switch school… I wish this was just a bad dream."
Three girls then approached May. The one standing in the middle had blue eyes and blue hair, wearing the uniform, and had a Piplup sitting on her head. The girl on the right had dark skin, brown-hazel eyes, really long, purple hair, wearing the uniform, and had an Axew in her hair. Finally, the girl on the left had red hair in a side ponytail, viridian eyes, and while wearing the uniform, had a Togetic in her arms.
"It's nice to meet you," The girl on the left said. "My name is Misty Waterflower. And this is my Togetic."
"My name is Iris Dragua," Iris said. "And this is my partner, Axew."
"Ew axew!" Axew said, cheerfully. It leaped out of Iris's hair, landed on May's desk, and immediately made friends with Beautifly.
Recognizing the girl in the middle, May said, "Dawn, is that you? I knew you went to a different school, but I never knew it was Pokémon Prep!"
"It sure is me, May," Dawn said. "I recognized you in the crowd immediately, and I decided to introduce you to Iris and Misty."
"I'm not one to say so, but there are a lot of girls here who are jealous about you," Iris said. "Because of your marriage to Drew."
"How do you know about that?" May asked.
"It was in the newspaper," Dawn said, handing May the newspaper. "Now everyone knows who you are."
'This photograph is huge!' May thought. "Um… I'm not particularly happy about this marriage…"
"We know you were dropped into it," Iris said. "Because you vented to Dawn about it over the phone. And before you ask, Dawn already told us."
"Really?" May said.
"Right," Misty said. "So, we get why you aren't very happy about the situation as of now."
"However, Drew is the president of one of the biggest companies in Hoenn," Iris said. "Despite his young age, he's already gotten a lot of enemies due to that. That's why you need to be careful, May."
May then sweat dropped, and then thought, 'Enemies?!'
"Um, yes…" May said.
"But the school is safe," Dawn said. "His bodyguards are always around to keep an eye out for trouble."
May then remembered everything that happened that morning, including her outburst and the fact she was not happy about changing schools.
May then went deep in thought, and then she realized, 'So, he did it for my own safety… Now that I think about it, I was pretty mean...'
"May, what's wrong?" Dawn asked, as she noticed her best friend had gone quiet. She waved her hand in front of May's face, but she got nothing.
"What's wrong with her?" Iris asked.
"Maybe she's rethinking a few things due to this revelation…" Misty suggested.
Later that night at the manor, Drew came back into the doors of the mansion, and he greeted a maid, "I'm home."
"Oh, welcome back, young master." A maid said.
However, some noises came from another part of the house. It sounded like clanging pots and pans, scorching ingredients, etc., and then Drew inquired, "What's the racket over there?"
"Um, well, that's…" The maid then said.
"Madame, that's tapioca starch!" One of the chefs from the kitchen said.
"EH?!" May said, in a panic. For the sake of keeping her safe, May had her Beautifly back in its Poké Ball.
"Now the rice is burning!" Another one of the chefs said, and then another one said, "Water is boiling over here…"
"ACK!" May said, frantic.
"Ehehehe… Madame wanted to cook the meal tonight…" The maid explained, while putting a hand to her forehead.
Drew merely smiled, and then asked, "May I come in?"
"Ah! Drew…" May said, surprised.
At the table, the food was burnt, and in some cases, soggy with some of the dishes. It was not the best thing in the world, but as the saying went, "It's the thought that counts".
"Well, it's nice that you did this, but… I think I'd expect something a little better next time." Drew said.
"Today's an exception," May said. "There won't be a next time."
"Huh? I thought you started to take your role as my wife seriously…" Drew said.
"FAT CHANCE!" May said, in protest.
"Then… Why did you do this?" Drew asked.
"Well… It's an apology," May said. "I called you a tyrant for changing my school, but you did it to protect me."
"You only spoke the truth, so don't be so concerned," Drew said, putting down his silver wear. "You're most likely not comfortable in that position. It's completely my error. So… I'm sorry."
May was pretty surprised, thinking, 'Really?!'
She then said, "Um… It was pretty hard, but I was unaware that my best friend, Dawn Berlitz, goes to that school, so I had the luck of being in the same class as her and a few of her friends."
"That's a relief," Drew said, but then he changed the subject. "Tomorrow is the 100th Anniversary of the company, and there's going to be a party for it. Will you come with me?"
"A party?!" May said, surprised.
"I'll be honest, I don't like that sort of thing," Drew said. "That's why I'd be so much happier if you came with me."
"Beg your pardon?!" May said, surprised.
"Just think about it, okay?" Drew said, as he stood up from the table and left.
May then thought it over, and when a maid came over, she asked, "Excuse me?"
"What is it, Madame?" The maid asked
"What… kind of clothing is party-appropriate?" May asked, gently tugging on the maid's uniform.
The following night, the party was in full swing. It was a formal gala event with everyone in formal clothing and the food was top-notch fancy. Drew was talking with some of the male guests.
"It's Drew Hayden!" One of the women at the party said, as they were talking about Drew from a distance.
"Kyaa! He's so cute and young!" Another woman said.
"But… Where's his wife?" The first of the women inquired.
"How could he marry a girl like her? He should have married a company president's daughter." The second of the women said.
"I'll be she isn't coming tonight." The first one said.
"As if she would," The second one said. "She'd ruin the image of the company!"
Little did they know that outside the ballroom door, the maid to May was standing in front of the door, and she told May, "Hurry, master Drew is waiting for you."
"I'm not sure about this…" May said. "I don't feel okay in these clothes…"
"It's okay," The maid said. "Go on in."
The maid then gave May a gentle shove, and then May walked into the room, catching Drew's eye.
May was in a scalloped, red dress with spaghetti straps and a ribbon sash, and wearing matching kitten-heel shoes. Her hair was tied in a bun with a red rose hair clip, and was wearing some nice makeup, with red lipstick. There was a transparent sash that she was wearing by having it wrapped around her arms and trailing behind her. She, for obvious reasons, had Beautifly on her shoulder, with her wings folded up.
Everyone had noticed her, and after quietly approaching Drew, May then shyly said, "Please forgive my tardiness…"
Drew looked away for a second, and then May inquired, "Do I look strange or something?"
"It's the opposite," Drew confessed. "You're so stunning that you caught me off-guard. You look amazing…"
"Oh… Thank you." May said, blushing.
"Good evening," An older company president said, approaching Drew, catching his attention. "I've been looking for you, young President. I don't recognize this marriage one bit!"
"What…?!" May said, but Drew just put his hand in front of May while in front of her.
"Calm down, May," Drew said. "Wait for me over there, okay?"
May merely walked away, while looking back at Drew as he was having the conversation.
Later, on a balcony out at the mansion, May, with Beautifly still on her shoulder vented, and then she said, "What the heck is WITH that guy!"
"He's a rival of ours," Drew explained. "A president of a company about to go under."
"Big deal! He's got no right to say that!" May said. "Ugh, it just makes me so mad!"
"You haven't changed a bit, May," Drew said. "You're still that same little girl."
"Huh? "Still…"? What do you mean?" May asked.
"When we were younger, we came for an inspection…" Drew began.
~Flashback~
A younger Drew and his father were at May's father's Gym. They were inside the main building, and then Drew's father told him, "The company that helps run this Gym will be yours someday, so be careful, Drew."
"Understood." Drew said.
However, one of the workers bumped into Drew, and then he said, "Oh, pardon me!"
Drew merely turned his head away, nonchalantly, and then, out of nowhere...
"HEY!" A younger May shouted, with a Wurmple on her head.
The shout was directly at Drew, and this was something that caught him by surprise.
"When you bump into someone, you should apologize!" May berated Drew. "Why aren't you apologizing? Too much of a coward, or can't you do it?!"
"Hey, May, how can you talk like that to Drew?" Norman, May's father said, trying to placate May.
"Oh, so because your father's rich and influential, you think you're a hot-shot?" May said, crossing her arms.
This hit Drew like a ton of bricks right on top of the head; a dagger to the chest. Drew sweat dropped and blue lines were going down his face.
~End of Flashback~
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! I was just a little girl at the time!" May said, panicking.
"Even so, you were right, May," Drew said. "Assuming that everything was already mine was pretty arrogant of me. Since then, I worked off my butt to deserve the right to own my father's company. Yes…"
"Then… My desire to see you again became real." Drew said, giving May a warm, romantic smile.
"Huh?" May said. Beautifly flew off of her shoulder, sensing the moment was about to get intense, so she decided to back off to allow them some more space.
"Even though the company that helped sponsor your father's Gym went bankrupt," Drew said. "You're still the strong girl you were back then."
May went red in the face as her eyes widened at this.
"Truth be told," Drew said, as he gently put a hand on May's face. "No matter what, I still wanted you to be mine. I've loved you since that day, May…"
May blushed deeper and Drew was about to kiss her when a maid with two beverage glasses interrupted and said, "Want a drink?"
"Oh, yes, please!" May said, as she took the slightly bluer one, which, unknown to the maid, had been laced with Sleep Powder.
"May, no, that's got…" Drew tried to say, but May already drank it. "Sleep Powder…"
May soon collapsed, and then her mind was racing with thoughts, remembering everything Drew had said.
'He's… Always loved me?' May thought.
However, all of a sudden, she woke up, and sat up straight, as she looked around and saw that she was in her bedroom once again.
"Was it just a dream…?" May said aloud. She then looked to her right and saw Drew in the bed with her.
"Oh, good morning May." Drew said.
May then noticed she was in a nightgown, and then realizing the possible scenario...
"GAAAAAHHH!" May screamed. She then retreated to the other side and said, "You… You…!"
"Chill out, May," Drew said. "All I did was have the maids change you into some night clothing so the dress wouldn't bother you."
"Oh, really?" May said, skeptical.
"I won't touch a defenseless girl who was drugged with Sleep Powder, sheesh. Must have been one of the guests with a grudge against me who did that as a way to try and get to me..." Drew said.
"But you still had those dirty thoughts, didn't you?" May accused.
"No…" Drew said, as he blushed and then turned his head away slightly.
'He's gone as red as a Ledyba… What's with him?' May thought, but then she laughed before saying, "You're totally infatuated with me, aren't you?"
Drew's eyes widened a bit, and then his face tinted red once more. He then turned away and covered his face.
May noticed, and said, "What's wrong? Are you mad?"
"No, not even close," Drew said. "You're just the cutest… I can't hold back anymore."
Drew shuffled his position and then inquired, "May I… kiss you?"
He took May by the shoulders, and then May got defensive and said, "Wait! Hold it! You said you wouldn't do anything!"
"Only if you hate it." Drew said.
'Wait! NO! Don't do it!' May thought, in a panic… Only for Drew to kiss May on the cheek.
May opened her eyes as feeling this, and Drew gave her a warm smile.
'A kiss on the cheek?!' May thought, surprised.
"Time to leave, sir." A staff member said from outside the bedroom.
"It's this late already?" Drew said, as he got up and left the room. "Don't worry, May, just get dressed, okay?"
"On it…" May said.
After May changed into her uniform, she went out to the window, and had her hand on her cheek in surprise, as the sensation of the kiss lingered there.
She watched Drew leave in his car and then she thought, 'Why didn't I say that I didn't like it?'
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the guest from the party that got her upset the night before. He was standing beside a pillar, with a Toxicroak beside him.
'Wasn't he from the party last night?' May thought. She then noticed that Toxicroak was inflating its poison sac. She knew that a Toxicroak can up the potency of their poison by croaking, and that was what this particular Toxicroak was doing.
"Oh, no!" My said, as she then dashed downstairs.
'Drew has quite a few enemies…' The words that Dawn and her friends told her replayed in her mind.
"Because of you, I lost my company!" The main shouted. "Toxicroak, use Poison Jab!"
Toxicroak's claw then glowed purple and it was about to jab Drew, but May jumped in the way and got hit herself.
Everyone gasped in horror as they saw May cover Drew.
May landed on Drew, kicking him over, and then the side that had been jabbed was showing, as the poison seeped through her clothes.
"Madame!" Everyone shouted.
The guards arrested the man with the Toxicroak and the doctor was called.
Later, May woke up in the bed again, all treated.
"May!" Drew said.
"Drew…?" May said.
"What a relief," Drew said. "The poison was very potent stuff. That Toxicroak had to have been churning it for a while for it to become that strong. Thankfully, the doctors fed you Pecha berries and Casteliacones, too."
'Oh, I remember, now. I covered Drew…' May thought.
Drew took her hand and then said, "I'm so sorry that you had to take the bullet!"
May turned over, and then Drew said, "May, are you hurt?"
"No… But don't look at me…" May said. 'What was I thinking?'
"It's so annoying…" May said. "Since when did I fall in love with you, Drew?"
Hearing those words, Drew turned May over, and gently took her by the wrists.
"No…" May said.
"Don't hide it," Drew said. "Let me see your face."
May then looked up and saw that she was just as red in the face as Drew.
"I know I'm probably beating a dead Ponyta with this, but… Do you… want to really be my wife, now?" Drew asked.
"Yes…" May said, and then she and Drew finally shared a romantic kiss with each other. 'Now we're really a married couple...'
The sun shined into the room as the two were finally mutually in love, and they held their kiss for a long time...
That's the end of this one. Okay, I know the post-drink, falling asleep scene was there, but that was part of the storyline of the manga, so I kinda had no choice. I decided to change it up a little to tone it down so that way people wouldn't get the wrong idea.
So, maybe another Pokemon Fairy Tale? Just review some suggestions for me for a Pokemon Disney Princess story? Minus Brave indefinitely. I HATE Brave, and Merida, too. She doesn't fit the mold of "Disney Princess" to me. Don't judge me…
Also, for those of you who have NOT read that manga, marriage at 16 in Japan, even nowadays, is NOT unheard of, and arranged marriages are still common over there… As far as I can tell. So, don't be surprised.
