Here comes another one! I know the last one was a bit weird, considering it was Pepe Le Pew, so let's try something that's a little LESS OOC for Drew. Okay, the gist of this one is that May has a secret admirer and she's thrilled. She's desperate to find out who it is, but her enthusiasm isn't exactly being helped by the #1 popular boy at school, Drew, who keeps teasing her about it. However, for some strange reason, he does an about-face when May expresses her hope that her secret admirer is her crush, Brendan Birch. What's Drew's deal?
Pokémon Contest Academy, the top school in the world dedicated to creating a proper learning environment for up-and-coming Pokémon Coordinators. There was a uniform policy that required plaid skirts and blazers for girls, while there were blazers and pants for the boys, all in the school colors. There were no restrictions on makeup, hair, or jewelry; the school is more Pokémon-based, rather than discipline-based, so freedom of expression was very encouraged.
Pokémon Contest Academy also allowed students to bring their Pokémon, but only all six could be allowed out of their balls at once during lunch or break blocks. During class and transition periods, only one Pokémon was allowed of their Poké Balls, which was often their main Pokémon partners.
One particular girl, with brown hair and blue eyes, wearing a red bandana, named May Maple, was one of the top three students at the school. May, in terms of family background, was the most "ironic" of the students. This was because her father is Norman Maple, the Petalburg City Gym Leader. Nobody in her family or the school complained about her choice of Contests over Gyms. May's main Pokémon partner was a female Beautifly that she had raised from a Wurmple that she had caught.
The number one student in school was her best friend, Dawn Berlitz, who was the daughter of Johanna Berlitz, one of the most prestigious alumni in Pokémon Contest Academy's history. Dawn herself had dark blue eyes and dark blue hair, and she was all about fashion and bringing out the best in her Pokémon. Dawn's main Pokémon partner was her very first one: her little Piplup, which she always had out of its Poké Ball, and it was either riding on her head, or on her shoulder.
The number two student was Drew Hayden. This boy had an air of superiority and arrogance around him; he was known for his charm, good looks, and his way with his Pokémon. He had green eyes and emerald green hair. He was also the most popular boy in school, where the girls were concerned. However, for some reasons, although he was so popular, he just could not defeat Dawn. Drew's main Pokémon partner was a Roserade that he had raised from an Egg, and she was always at his side.
May was number three, but she did not mind. She was proud of Dawn for taking the spot of #1 in the school, and was always busting her butt trying to surpass Drew, whom she thought of as her main rival in Pokémon Contests.
May and Dawn were walking to their lockers while talking about their Pokéblock and Poffin recipes that their Pokémon just loved. Piplup was on Dawn's head while Beautifly was on May's shoulder, her wings folded up.
"I can't wait for Appeals class today, May," Dawn said. "I've been doing my homework all the time, and Togekiss and I are going to wow the crowd with our newest appeal!"
"That's for sure, Dawn. I'm pumped for Contest Battle class today," May said. "It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow, but someday, someday, I'm going to defeat Drew!"
"Keep that up and you're sure to win, May!" Dawn said, as the girls soon made it to their lockers together.
"Oh, Drew, your Roserade is just stunning!" "Forget the Roserade; Drew himself is stunning!" "He makes green hair look good!"
Many girls from other classes were surrounding Drew, and May and Dawn looked over to the scene with apathy.
"I'm so used to that particular routine," May said. "Seeing all those crazy fangirls surrounding Drew is starting to get old."
"No kidding," Dawn said. "The girls envy the two of us just because we're on Drew's level."
"It gets annoying, doesn't it?" May said, as she opened her locker.
However, when she looked inside, she reached in, and said, "What's this?"
"What's the matter, May?" Dawn asked.
"Check this out, Dawn," May said, as she pulled out the item that was out of place: a bouquet of red roses that had a card tied to it. "This is completely out of the ordinary."
Drew then noticed the scene across the hall, and then he smiled, thinking, 'Something interesting is happening.'
"Pardon me, ladies." Drew said, as he walked away from the crowd.
"Don't look know, but guess who's coming." Dawn said to May.
"Drew?" May asked, almost stating it, as she was reading the card.
"In the flesh." Drew said, coming up behind the girls.
"I was right," May said. "But… Oh, man, whoever this boy is so poetic!"
"What's going on?" Drew said, looking over May's shoulder.
"If you must know," May said, pouring venom into the sentence. "I opened my locker and I found this bouquet of roses inside. And the card that came with it is so sweet…"
"But you said, 'whoever this boy is'…? It's anonymous?" Dawn said.
"Right," May said, blushing. "It says, "From Your Secret Admirer". Oh, isn't that sweet?!"
"You're getting all sentimental over something like this?" Drew said, taking the card out of May's hand.
"Hey, give it back!" May said, snatching the card back. "This guy has good taste, unlike a certain someone."
"Hey, who says I don't have good taste?!" Drew said, knowing May was talking about him.
"I do," May said. "You're a typical playboy, having all those girls swarm around you like Combee to honey."
"Come on, May, read it!" Dawn said. "I want to hear it!"
"Okay, okay," May said. "It says 'Eyes of sapphires, chocolate-like hair, compared to Snow White, you are the most fair. As your Beautifly's wings shine in the light, so does your smile, so gloriously bright. You don't notice, so I'll tell you straight: it was love at first sight, since the first day at the school's gate. - Your Secret Admirer'. Oh, Dawn, isn't that the cutest?!"
"And those red roses seem to be at their peak," Dawn said. "You must be charmed."
"I am!" May said, blushing.
"Getting all emotional over something like this is so typical…" Drew said, as he then left the girls alone.
After turning he corner, he then leaned on the wall, and smiled, shyly, with a red tint on his cheeks. However, he then remembered, 'You're a typical playboy, having all those girls swarm around you like Combee to honey.'
Drew then scowled, and said, "If only she knew…"
May and Dawn were then on the bench at the school, and then May said, "Oh, I really wish I could find out who this boy really is!"
"Why?" Dawn said.
"Well, obviously, he's the shy type; if he's going to be anonymous, he has to be. That just makes me want to find out even more!" May said.
"Anything else?" Dawn said.
"Well… Maybe this is just my anger talking, but I also want to show Drew that I can get a boyfriend!" May said, her aura flaring.
"Now, this is probably just a crazy suggestion on my end, but what do you think the chances are of it being from you-know-who?" Dawn said.
"Oh, I really don't know… But I really wish it was him!" May said, her eyes dreamy.
Drew was watching from up in a nearby tree, and then sighed, before saying, "Why is she getting all worked up about this?"
"Yo, Drew!" A voice shouted from below, and Drew lost his balance for a second before grabbing onto the trunk again. He looked down and saw a boy with chestnut hair and black eyes, wearing the school uniform.
"Sorry, buddy," The boy said. "I didn't mean to scare you like that."
"Oh, Kenny; no worries about that," Drew said, as he climbed down the tree. "What's the matter?"
Kenny was Dawn's childhood friend; he was also a student at the academy, and was also known for not being altogether that good with Doubles Contests, that is, Contests in which two Pokémon were required, which did not end well for him. Despite having only a few things in common with Drew, mainly a main rival being a girl, Drew and Kenny were the best of friends.
The main thing they had in common was that they had a big secret: they had crushes on their rivals; Drew had one on May, while Kenny fancied Dawn.
"What's the matter?" Kenny said. "You not being over there with May and Dawn, teasing May, that's what's the matter."
"Not like she pays me much attention anyway, unless we're competing. She's going gaga over the secret admirer letter she got this morning." Drew said, sadly.
"Why are you so upset about it?" Kenny said.
"When she learns the truth, I'm afraid it could hurt," Drew said. "After all, it's not like she has a crush on me, of all people, anyway…"
"Hurt you or hurt her?" Kenny asked.
"… Hurt me." Drew said.
"I can see where you'd be worried," Kenny said. "After all, with the way you tease her, it'd be unexpected for her to have feelings for you; not that it's not possible."
"That's exactly what I'm worried about…" Drew said. "It could end badly for me either way…"
"I suggest to keep trying to tell May how you feel, so she forgets about this secret admirer thing and then if she finds out the truth, it won't matter so much." Kenny suggested.
"You're a real pal," Drew said. "Oh, speaking of which, any progress with Dawn?"
Kenny blushed and then said, "No! No! Not yet!"
Drew laughed as Kenny was flustered.
The next day, things seemed to be normal, but soon, May was once again at her locker. She felt like things were about as normal as they could get, but Drew was at his locker, keeping a close eye on May.
Opening her locker, May squealed with delight when she pulled out a stuffed Torchic; once again, there was a card.
"Oh, this Torchic is so cute!" May said, as she gave it a big squeeze, and then kissed its beak.
Drew went red in the face, while sweat dropping.
"Hey, May," Dawn said. "Where'd you get the Torchic?"
"It was in my locker," May said, with a smile. "This guy really knows me!"
"I can see why he'd get you a Torchic; it was your starter Pokémon, wasn't it?" Dawn said.
"Yes, it was!" May said, before looking at the card.
"Aw! This little poem he wrote is cute, too!" Dawn said.
"This time it says, 'This cute little bird was your very first Pokémon choice; it's just as adorable as the sound of your voice. Each day passes by when see you again and again; I desperately want to tell you "ja'taime'. Oh, this guy has such class!" May said, hearts in her eyes.
May then kissed the card, causing Drew to get upset for unknown reasons. He then decided to intervene.
"Got another one of those cheesy notes and presents, huh?" Drew said, coming over, and taking away the letter.
"Hey, give that back!" May demanded, reaching for the letter, but Drew teased her by pulling it out of her reach, then back in.
May managed to get a hold of it once more, and then she said, "Once I find out who this boy is, I'm going to make sure you rue the day that you started teasing me about this!"
"Come on, May, let's go," Dawn said, as she and May then started to leave. "We don't need Drew's arrogance."
Drew then sighed sadly before putting his hand in his hair in frustration while saying, "Idiot… Why can't you look at me rather than those notes…?"
"Because you're teasing isn't helping," Kenny said, coming up to Drew. "And if May finds out the truth, you should respect her choice."
Drew nodded, and said, "Even thought it could hurt my feelings…"
Kenny said, "That's right."
May was grooming her Pokémon outside in the courtyard, and was still reading the card, with a blush in her cheeks.
"May, you've been staring at those cards all day during grooming," Dawn said, as she was bathing her Piplup. "Aren't you getting a little overly-curious about this?"
"How can I not?" May said. "Whoever this boy is, OH, he has to be such a sweetie! I can't wait to meet him face-to-face!"
"And what would happen if you're disappointed with him?" Dawn asked.
"… Well, I haven't thought about that, yet," May said. "But I might just turn him down gently. But if he's a total cutie and as chivalrous as his notes in gifts, he's a keeper!"
"Now, this is going to be stupid of me to ask, but… Are you expecting a certain someone to be your secret admirer?" Dawn asked.
Unknown to both girls, Drew was listening to their conversation and hoping to hear his name come from May's mouth.
"Well… Yes, there is!" May said, blushing, while she was grooming Blaziken's feathers.
"I think I know who it is." Dawn said, with a smile.
"Yes… Yes, you do!" May said, while blushing harder.
Drew was not sure whether or not to be sad and angry or happy and hopeful; on the one hand, it could be she had a crush on someone else, but at the same time, he hoped it was him.
He listened closely to what the girls were saying inwardly, 'Please let it be me! Please say my name!'
"I… Really hope…" May said.
Drew leaned closer and tried to hear May.
"I… Hope that it's Brendan Birch!" May said, as hearts exploded.
Hearing this, Drew's face and body literally turned white and then he literally fractured in places and fell apart in a pile of stone.
Drew then staggered a bit as he then backed up, and then thought, 'Brendan?! She wants her secret admirer to be BRENDAN?!'
Tears fell from Drew's eyes and then feeling the pain of a broken heart, he ran off, feeling his heart was ripped out of his chest.
Later, Kenny then found Drew, and then he said, "Drew! What's going on?"
"May wants her secret admirer to be Brendan Birch!" Drew said, as he then banged his head on a tree.
"Whoa, Drew, calm down!" Kenny said, trying to console his friend. "She doesn't know that it's not Brendan! Heck, I don't think he even feels that way about her."
"You don't understand," Drew said. "That bastard has been May's childhood friend for years, just like you and Dawn. She says that he goes to Pokémon Professor Prep, but they exchange letters all the time. I'm sure she's mentioned her Pokémon in the past, so no doubt it wouldn't be unreasonable for her to think that he's the one sending those letters."
"So, stop beating around the bush then," Kenny said. "If this is going to eat at you all day, then tell May how you feel so she won't think much of the letters and presents."
"She's going to be devastated when she learns Brendan's not the one sending the letters and gifts…" Drew said.
"Better you tell her the truth than let the lie break her heart." Kenny said.
"Good point…" Drew said, determined.
The next day, May and Dawn were walking to their lockers that morning; May was eager to see what her secret admirer had left for her that morning.
Drew was around the corner, out of May and Dawn's sight, near their locker, and was waiting to see what was in May's locker that time around.
"So, May, this is just out of curiosity," Dawn said. "But what do you think the chances are of your secret admirer being Drew?"
Hearing this, Drew was curious; he thought that maybe it was possible that May considered him as a candidate as the anonymous suitor.
"Drew? Are you kidding me?" May said, cocking an eyebrow.
"No, I'm serious," Dawn said. "Would you suspect Drew?"
"Drew? NO WAY!" May said, smiling and chuckling a bit.
This devastated Drew, but at the same time, it also made him quite angry.
He was determined to make her fall in love with him… Even if it meant shattering her dreams.
Opening her locker, May then noticed yet another bouquet of flowers, this time, accompanied by a plush Beautifly, and yet again, another card.
"Oh, Dawn, looks like my Romeo has let me more!" May said, as she took the gifts out.
"Aw, how cute! Let's see what the card says!" Dawn said.
"This time it says, 'I can't bear to be anonymous for much more yet, so I think that we must meet; it's a safe bet. You may be upset to find out who I am, but for that, you, I don't blame. Once you see me face-to-face, you'll no doubt know my name. Today, we must meet, the roof at noon. Our time together must be sweet, this rendezvous. Seeing who I really am may break your heart, but I can't bear to keep you in the dark. - Your Secret Admirer'. That's strange; he sounds like he's afraid of how I'll react." May said.
"For all you know, it could be Drew," Dawn said. "Your secret admirer, could, in fact, be Drew, but how will you react if it is?"
"I don't know, Dawn… I don't know." May said, looking downcast.
Ironically, Drew was nowhere to be found at this time; he was usually there when May was at her locker. May assumed he was probably training with Roserade.
"Speaking of whom, where is he?" Dawn said.
"Probably training with Roserade…" May said. She then looked at the card once more, with a blush on her face, and she thought, 'What if it IS Drew…?'
Unknown to either girl, Drew was actually in another corridor with Kenny.
"Are you sure about this, Drew? You could end up blowing the whole thing." Kenny asked.
"Maybe so, but I don't care! Unless she knows the truth, I'll never be able to let it go." Drew said, clenching his fists.
"Then you'd better act fast." Kenny said.
Drew nodded in agreement.
May, during lunch block, went up to the rooftop of the school to meet up with her secret admirer. She asked Dawn to stay behind so as to not ruin the moment, and Dawn complied; she was always the type girl who could read the atmosphere and not ruin it.
As soon as May walked out the door, and was on the roof, she looked around, but no one was there. She then got nervous. She was afraid that her secret admirer would not show up, or worse, the whole thing was a plot to get to her for some other reason, albeit she was not sure which.
Soon, red and pink rose petals were floating in a breeze in front of her face; they were just like the roses from the locker the first time she got the gifts.
"'Like blossoming flowers on a spring day. The season matches your name, which is, fittingly, May. You're the picture of beauty and innocence, the epitome of a true girl. Your eyes, hair, and voice, lights up my world.'" A voice said.
Recognizing that the voice was coming from behind another wall, where the door was, May then turned to it, and then she said, "Um… Is that you? My secret admirer?"
"As of now, the admirer's identity is no secret," The voice said, as its owner came out from hiding. Sure enough, it was the last person May expected it to be: Drew. "But I highly doubt you'll think of me in the same way now."
May was completely surprised that her secret admirer was Drew, the most popular boy in school. May's eyes were wide with shock, but then she calmed down, saying, "So… This whole time, it was you?"
Drew nodded, as he came a little closer; he took a rose out from behind him, and it was single, and thornless, which literally meant "Love at first sight". He tossed it at May, who caught it, and then Drew told her, "I know you're disappointed that it's me and not Brendan."
"How did you…?" May said, about to ask.
"I heard you," Drew said. "I sort of knew that I would end up with a broken heart in the end."
"Don't assume such things!" May said. "I've always thought you were the arrogant type, but I've seen your sweet sides, too."
"You have?" Drew asked, cocking an eyebrow.
"Are the notes and gifts any clue?" May asked, smiling.
"Touche…" Drew said, sweat dropping.
"I… Still never thought that you'd like me of all people. I thought someone like Dawn would be your type of girl." May said.
Drew just fell over in shock, and then he stood up, and said, "Give me a break! Between you and me, Kenny has the hots for Dawn, not me."
"Oh-kay, so I won't say anything about that to Dawn…" May said, sweat dropping.
"May… I love you." Drew said, as he then came over to May, and hugged her.
May then relaxed and she hugged Drew back, her eyes teary and her face red.
Drew then made May face him, and then he said, "Will you go out with me?"
May nodded, and then the both of them kissed each other, while Drew was slightly a little more forceful than May was. Drew then put his hand in May's hair and his other arm around her waist, while May put her hands on his chest, while propping a leg up.
The next day, everyone in the school, minus Kenny, was shocked to see Drew and May holding hands with each other, now a couple, and they were walking in the hallway together, ready for their next classes...
However, before they went to class, they shared a kiss in front of the students, causing the girls to cry tears of sadness, get cheers and whistles from the boys, and applause from almost everyone else.
How did that go? I guess it was a little hard for me to handle this time around, but I don't know what you guys think. I'm also a little unsure about what to do for the next idea, though… Maybe another Pepe Le Pew episode twist (I'm a bit on a kick with him), but then I just heard the song "Let Me Be Your Wings"… Maybe I could try something with that? And I know I've done it already, but I can always try another "I Won't Say (I'm In Love)" number… Just let me know what you think.
