Here's my next one-shot. A reader of mine suggested I try using some of the ending of chapter 3 about the "Beauty Princess" movie I mentioned in the end to help the romantic mood. So, why not make that story real and apply it to ContestShipping here? Isn't that just perfect?
The plot of "The Beautifly Princess" is that May, the Beautifly Princess is having problems obtaining food resources for her country and it's at the point where her country could be at war with the neighboring country, the Roserade Kingdom. To cheer her up, her servants throw a masquerade ball for her and the countries. However, the prince of the Roserade kingdom, Drew, sneaks into the party with the motive of winning over the princess and then breaking her heart to the point where her country falls. But will this plan of his work? Who knows!
'Once upon a time, in the land known as the Beautifly Kingdom, the normally-flourishing country was in a state of mild panic. The food resources and agricultural yields were going down, and the ruler, Princess May, was under a lot of stress to find a solution.'
Papers were being crumpled up and thrown left and right and each one tossed away was followed by a groan or shout of frustration.
"Darn it!" A female voice shouted.
The scene changed to a girl with brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a red dress with a pink sash, pink flats, and pink gloves, and she was also wearing a tiara on her head that had a large, red ruby in it. Her hands were on the desk, and her face had the expression of frustration and anger.
"Princess May, your Highness, what's the problem?" A maid, with red hair in a side-ponytail, and viridian eyes asked, as she came in through the door.
"Oh, Misty. The problem is I'm just really frustrated with all of the paperwork and such. It's getting hard to find resources for our agricultural industry. We'll run out of food soon. If something doesn't change then we'll be at war with the Roserade Kingdom out of starvation in a matter of months." May said, as she slammed the papers on the desk and then she turned away, in frustration.
Misty and May were more like sisters than they were mistress and maid. There were other maids, and the one May was closet too, besides Misty, was Dawn, another maid, who was a blue-haired girl with blue eyes. She specialized in putting on shows with her Pokémon to cheer May up whenever she was feeling down.
"Forgive me for my impudence, your Highness, but it seems to me that you're just overworked," Misty said. "Which is why I think it is appropriate that you attend the party tonight."
"Party? What party?" May inquired; she had not heard anything about a party.
"The officials in the palace are worried, so they think a masquerade party will make you feel a little more relaxed. I personally agree with them. It's too much stress by working so much without a break." Misty explained.
"… I guess a break is long overdue. Very well, I'll attend." May said.
"I'm very pleased, your Highness; I think it is in your best interest that you change clothes. It will be too easy for you to stand out in that outfit." Misty said.
May, looking at her dress, said, "Yes, I believe so."
"It's a masquerade, so it's best if you wear a mask; should the princess be discovered, it may be possible that our enemies from the Roserade Kingdom may try to take advantage of you." Misty suggested.
"Yes… You're right, Misty," May said, as she then went to her closet. "I must chose my disguise wisely… What do you recommend?"
"Something that sets you apart from others…" Misty said, as she came into the closet to help May pick out the right outfit.
'Meanwhile, in the neighboring kingdom, the Roserade Kingdom, the prince was reading an invitation to the Beautifly Kingdom ball that had been snagged from a tradesman that was doing business.'
His hair and eyes were emerald green, and he was wearing a white military jacket with silver epaulets and buttons. His pants were black and he was wearing white gloves. He was looking at the invitation he had managed to snag, and he was smirking at the invitation, thinking up a dastardly plan.
'Prince Drew, the prince of the Roserade Kingdom, was known for his charm and good looks, popularity with the girls, and his suave demeanor, but he was also known for his adeptness in government and military decisions and work. Drew was said to be an arrogant prince, willing to go to any length to do what he could for his country.'
"Prince Drew, your majesty, what has you so intrigued with the Beautifly Kingdom's party?" A butler asked him.
"Their ruler is a princess, right?" Drew inquired.
"Yes… But what does that have to do with anything?" The butler said, while putting down some tea for the prince to drink.
"I'm planning on going to the party," Drew said, with an evil smirk. "So, what do you recommend for the proper costume for this party to help me blend in?"
"Why on earth would you go to a party being hosted by our adversary?!" The butler inquired, as he dropped the tray; he scrambled to pick up the pieces.
"To break the princess," Drew said. "It's a masquerade ball. But I don't think it will be hard for me to distinguish the princess from the rest of the girls at the party. If I win her over, she'll lower her guard, and then once I break her heart, she'll be in no condition to govern. That's when we invade and take over."
"Very underhanded, but it's also very clever, your highness." The butler said.
"I've always been good at charming people, so why not use that to my advantage in this situation? It will be the perfect plan." Drew said.
"But your highness, doesn't it bother you that you will be taking advantage of a lady's feelings? Your father would not be happy with that, even if he were still alive." The butler inquired.
"Don't question my motives! I know what I'm doing! And don't drag my father into this!" Drew shouted.
"Oh… My apologies, my liege," The butler said. "My recommendation for a costume is something that makes you blend in with the crowd."
"Good idea," Drew said. "If I stand out too much, people will get suspicious; I commend you, my butler. You may go now."
"I understand, my liege." The butler said, before leaving the room.
"Now, for my costume for this party." Drew said, as he went to his closet.
'Drew was ready to put his plan into motion. But what he was unaware of was that the target of his plan was unknowingly going to be the Aipom wrench in his scheme.'
Back with May, she was on the balcony, thinking about the party. She had her costume all set, and the sun was also setting for the night. She felt really relaxed at this point, and she was just ready for the timing to get her costume on.
"Your guests are beginning to arrive, your highness; I advise you change clothes now." Misty said, from outside the door.
"I understand, Misty." May said, as she went to the closet and changed clothes.
Meanwhile, in the ballroom, everyone who was attending was wearing costumes of several different Pokémon, from Kanto to Kalos and every region in between. None of them were dressed as a Beautifly, for obvious reasons.
However, the mold was to be broken and soon, May came out, escorted by Misty, dressed as a Lumineon, and Dawn, dressed as a Togekiss.
May's outfit was a black dress, that was longer in the back, but was up to above her knees in the front, and she was wearing silver knee-high net stockings, with a silver sash, silver high-heel shoes, and silver elbow-length gloves. Her hair was worn as usual, and her tiara was still on. She was also wearing black butterfly wings on her back, with blue, red, and yellow markings, which made her look like a Beautifly. The only difference was that her mask was a simple black one with eyes holes that were big enough for May's eyes to see through.
'May was all ready for the party, but she was nervous, as she was unsure of who or what to expect at the ball. She did not want to give herself away, should any enemies come by.'
"Are you sure this is the right costume? I'm going to stand out too much." May asked.
"I'm sure no one will recognize you," Misty replied. "So long as you don't state your name. That's just proper etiquette here at this kind of party."
May sat on the throne, looking at the scene, and sighed, feeling a little better about the situation.
However, no one noticed that Prince Drew was within the crowd. He was not dressed as a Pokémon at all; then again, not everyone at the party was dressed as a Pokémon. His outfit consisted of his military jacket and was wearing a green mask, white gloves, and everything. He looked around and noticed Princess May on her throne.
'Bingo!' He thought, smirking, as he looked at May. However, once he got a better look, Drew's face turned pink for a second, and his heart beat accelerated for a little bit.
Drew shook it off briefly before saying, "No! Drew, you have a goal!"
'Drew was determined to break the princess's heart, by any means necessary. However, what he was not expecting to happen next was the fatal flaw he overlooked in his plan.'
"Please enjoy this party to the fullest, Your Highness," Misty said. "And please, forget about the potential war with the Roserade Kingdom, just for tonight."
"I appreciate this," May said. "But I'm worried someone will recognize me."
"Everyone here is in costume," Dawn said. "It shouldn't be a problem."
"Thank you." May said, as she stood up and started to walk towards the dance floor. She looked around, and saw everyone had a dance partner. 'I should have said that I may need dancing help. And why the heck am I dressed as a Beautifly? It's going to give me away!'
May then just walked through the crowd, feeling like no one would dance with her; as a princess, it would not exactly be a good idea for her to dance with someone of lower rank; at least, that was what the rest of the staff in the castle said.
May sighed as she made a beeline for the food bar; Drew then followed May, as he made his intention to woo her and then dump her. Not exactly befitting of a prince, but in order to help his country, he was willing to use any means.
May then saw the balcony, and rather than getting something to eat, she decided to step out and get some air instead; Drew, seeing this, followed her, and then May then stood on the balcony, releasing a sigh.
Drew stopped for a second, and looked at May from behind. May then said, "It's no use… How am I capable of dancing with a complete stranger? And as for food resources for the Beautifly Kingdom, they're almost nowhere to be found…"
Drew listened to May intently, and then May said, "And on top of all that, we're close to going to war with the Roserade Kingdom… If only war wasn't real… And food… It might be better off in infinite sources that we can easily find than anything else."
'Now's my time.' Drew thought, as he approached.
Hearing footsteps, May then turned around and looked at Drew, before saying, afraid, "Who are you?! What do you want?"
"Please forgive me, m'lady," Drew said, giving May a polite bow. "I could not help noticing your distress."
"Oh, sorry," May said, with a curtsy. "I was afraid for a moment. I've been so caught up in personal affairs that I haven't been myself."
Drew was starring at May when he got a closer look; her blue eyes were stunning and she was overall, beautiful. Drew went red in the face, and was speechless, with his mouth slightly agape from her beauty.
'Love at first sight is unpredictable and strange, yet it is also the most blind and unreasonable form of love the heart can experience. This young prince has suffered the symptoms of such, as the Beautifly of the Ball captured his heart through her most beautiful blue eyes.'
"Is there something wrong?" May asked.
"Oh, no, nothing. I just really… Think you're beautiful." Drew said. 'Now will she buy it?'
"Thank you," May said, as she turned away. "But I'm just afraid; I'm afraid that the Beautifly Kingdom will go to war with the Roserade Kingdom very soon. I don't want that."
"I agree," Drew said, as he came up beside May. "The Beautifly Kingdom is struggling where food is concerned, isn't it?"
"Yes, it is," May said. "I wonder where other food resources are…"
"Who knows," Drew said. Soon, he heard music inside the ballroom, and it was indicating a slow dance. "Shall we dance?"
"Oh, please, no," May said, as she waved her hand in a dismissive manner. "I'm horrible at dancing."
"So am I," Drew said, lying again. "I'll help you."
May then took Drew's hand and then they went into the ballroom to dance with each other.
The lights then dimmed down while they also shined on May and Drew. They were dancing together, doing really well, and May started blushing. May and Drew were dancing very elegantly and they were the belle and beau of the ball right at the moment. Drew found his heart pounding against his chest, as May's eyes were captivating him.
"I really appreciate this," May said, blushing. "I really am happy that someone is willing to dance with me."
"Really?" Drew said, as he blushed, knowing his plan was working; what he did not know was that the blush was not from that at all.
"Yes… Being the pr- Being in a situation where food begins to go scarce is frustrating." May said, catching her slip-up.
"I'm sure it is." Drew replied. 'And I'm going to be making it worse.'
May smiled at him, but put a sultry look on with her eyes, and Drew blushed harder as he saw this. Drew could not help the fact that he had fallen in love, but he was in denial of the situation.
"You know, I would like to know who you are under that mask." May said, with a hint of flirtatiousness in her voice.
"Same to you," Drew said, trying to keep his cool. "But I'm sure we'll figure it out soon enough."
Once Drew made an underarm turn with May, they went back to dancing, and then he thought, 'Why do I feel this way? I want to get closer to her to ensure the prosperity of the Roserade Kingdom, not become her husband!'
The music soon stopped, and then Drew inquired, "How about a walk around the courtyard?"
"Yes, please," May said. "I need to get out of this stuffy room."
Drew then linked arms with May, and then he led May outside the palace and into the gardens.
"Thank you for this," May said, as she sat on the fountain. "I've never had so much fun."
The dim moonlight made May sparkle, and Drew was breath taken at her beauty. Drew shook it off, and then sat down on the fountain with May, and then he lied, "I've had a good time, myself."
'Damn it! I why am I feeling so weak in the knees?!' Drew thought, as he felt his knees knock and his palms sweat.
May then scooted closer, as she soon said, "I'm happy that you're here; no one has ever spoken to me until you came along tonight."
"Is that so?" Drew said, as he and May leaned in to one another. They felt compelled to each other, like two magnets about to stick to one another. The both of them puckered up and were about to kiss, but...
The wind blew hard all of a sudden and then Drew ducked a bit before the mask on his face flew off. He looked up, and saw the shocked look on May's face. Drew felt his face, and realized that the mask had come off.
Seeing who he really was, May scowled, and bitterly said, "Prince Drew of the Roserade Kingdom?!"
Drew lowered his head before sadly saying, "That's right, Princess May."
May's eyes widened and then she said, "How did you know it was me under the mask?!"
The look in her eyes made Drew's heart skip a beat. Drew hesitated to say anything, as his entire plan had fallen apart because he had unwittingly fallen in love with Princess May. Drew's eyes had the look of shame and horror; this went over May's head without a doubt.
"You came here to deliberately break my heart to ensure my country's collapse, didn't you?!" May accused, standing up.
"…" Drew hesitated to say anything, but then said, "Yes, but…"
"I knew it! Such an underhanded tactic is so like you, Prince Drew!" May said, as she fell into tears.
'Just when Prince Drew was about to carry out the last phase of his plan, it fell apart by the one flaw he overlooked: he had fallen in love with her, over the course of the night.'
Drew suddenly felt like his heart was shattered to pieces.
May turned around and then she said, "Well, if that was your plan, it worked! The heartbreak part, that is!"
May was about to run off when Drew, feeling angry with himself, grabbed May's wrist and then caused her to stop; he said, "Please, don't cry, Princess. Tears don't look good on your face."
May stopped, and her rage began to subside. She could not explain it, but she could sense his sincerity.
"Please… Forgive me," Drew said, tears about to form in his eyes. "I initially had that intent in mind… But I soon felt conflicted about it. Before I knew it…"
Drew stopped for a minute, and May then turned around to him, tears spilling from her eyes.
Drew knelt down and blushed, as he said, "I can't stop these growing feelings."
"What feelings?" May asked, almost accusingly.
"I…" Drew said, hesitating, and then he took a deep breath. "I'm… In love with you."
"How can you say that?" May said, angrily.
"Feelings and plans can change, can't they?" Drew said.
May then relaxed; Drew was right.
"But that doesn't justify deliberately breaking a girls' heart!" May said, as she started to cry.
Drew, trying to make May feel better, then stood up, and then he said, "I know… but I can hope that you'll forgive me. Because… I… I love you!"
"But… How can I trust you after you tried to deceive me to ruin my country?!" May said, but she was interrupted when Drew finally worked up his courage and then he kissed her on the lips.
Out of nowhere, magic sparkles spiraled around Drew and May. May's "wings" grew larger all of a sudden and became real, her dress became more sparkly and her body lifted in the air a little bit, her new wings flapping. This caused Drew to break the kiss, out of surprise. Drew's outfit changed to a green military jacket with yellow epaulets and he sprouted red and blue fingerless gloves and then a green cape draped down his back, while his pants turned green, and his shoes turned yellow.
'It is said that "the magic of love crossing two warring countries will soon break the conflict and unite the two". A legend in itself was about to become real.'
"The legend is true… Then you really do love me?" May said, as she came back down onto the ground.
"I do." Drew said, as he then got May into a waltzing position.
May's wings were sparkling in the moonlight as she and Drew were dancing and having such a good time.
"You're truly the Beautifly of the Ball tonight, Princess." Drew said, as he and May waltz the night away in the courtyard.
"My prince…" May said, blushing. She then started to flap her wings and she lifted into the air a little bit.
May and Drew then kissed once more before Drew saw the time. He immediately gave May a sad look on his face; he then said, "May, I'm sorry, but I have to go back to the Roserade Kingdom…"
"Will I see you again?" May said, sadly.
"I promise." Drew said, as he and May hugged and rocked each other gently.
"I hate this!" May said, as she started to cry. "I don't want you to leave!"
"I promise to come and visit. And I'll promise to find you a solution to your food problem." Drew said.
"Oh, Drew…" May said, as she shed tears sadly.
Drew reached into his pocket and pulled out an emerald ring, and he put it on May's hand, saying, "This is to symbolize our relationship. No, not engagement, but lovers, nonetheless."
Drew soon let go of May's hands and then he left the courtyard. He felt heartbroken at leaving his princess, but May and Drew knew they would meet again; no doubt.
Drew came back to his castle in the Roserade Kingdom, and he was red in the face, and his butler asked, "How did it go?"
"I'm… In love with the princess. And the feeling's mutual. I'm planning on helping her with the crisis." Drew said, as he slumped into his chair and sighed dreamily.
"I guess that means that you weren't successful?" The butler asked.
"I failed in my plan, but I still found something better: love." Drew said, as he walked to the balcony, only to see May, flying on her new wings, in the sky...
That certainly ended well; nice twist with May growing Beautifly wings, huh? I hope you liked it!
