Aye, so who else was way pumped about TFIOS? I may have cried then I did when I saw Breaking Dawn Part Two. So here is chapter two and review if you don't mind.
Chapter Song: Little Things by Danny Elfman
*Flashback*
'He really did a number on my face this go round.'
I thought as I cleaned the blood of my face. I never really understood how beating a kid was satisfying. If you really want to take your frustrations out on someone just pick on someone your own size.
It's just that simple.
Either my mother never saw it that way or she never cared. Anytime he decided to go in on me she would just watch.
She wouldn't cry.
Or scream.
Or try to stop him.
She would just watch.
But, today was the last day I would take his crap. He has taken my mother, my life and my happiness. I have nothing holding me here anyway.
I was never good enough for either of them. They always claimed I was too dumb to function and quite worthless.
In reality my IQ is higher than both of theirs combined. I could actually make something out of my life if I hadn't of had the small taste of power I just discovered.
Today was the last straw; I finally snapped and reached the point of no return. He cornered me in the kitchen this time; repeatedly kicking me into the island that sat in the middle of the room.
I did one thing I did.
When he let up I took off down the hallway towards the small bathroom that all three of us shared.
"You think you can run away from me boy?" he asked when he finally caught up to me. He grabbed me by my shoulders turning me around and slamming me into the mirror.
"You can't run away from me because I'm in your head! I'm in here!" he said thumping me on the forehead.
My hands grasped around the pair of scissors that I left on the counter after sewing stitches on my leg.
He let out a huge gasp when I jammed the scissors into his cut. My hand became warm with the blood oozing out of the wound.
He looked down where our bodies met before looking back at me. He pulled away from me, trying to escape.
I grabbed him by his greasy hair turning him around punching him square in the face. Repeatedly.
He was lying face up on the hardwood floor when I got off of him. He was covered in blood but he was still breathing slightly.
I looked down at my disheveled appearance. I'm covered in blood- mostly his- and sweat.
I undressed, turned the shower on and stepped under the stream.
I really wish I could regret what I just did but the only thing I can feel is relief.
I walked out of the bathroom stepping over my stepfather's dead body, moving towards my bed room. Getting dressed before packing a bag, I took anything that I could carry in my backpack.
I made my way out of our small two bedroom house and to my next door neighbor's house. I knocked lightly and waited for someone to come to the door.
"Hey Jace, what's up." Isabelle my child hood friend said quietly probably afraid of waking her mother, she looked like she hadn't eaten in a while and there were dark circles under her eyes.
"I've decided to run away from home. There's still room on the band wagon if you guys would like to join." I said half-jokingly. Belle and her brother don't have the greatest home life either. No one on this side of town does.
"Jace I don't have time for your games. Mom will be up any second and she's starting in on Alec as soon as she wakes up. We had a busy morning." She said before lifting her shirt till it was resting just under her bra. Her stomach dusted with black and blue marks, signifying her mother's rage.
"I know I say it a lot but I mean it this time. I'm leaving." I nod in confirmation.
"But what about your mother and step-dad?" she asked. She was beginning to become antsy.
"Do you honestly think mother would notice if I was gone?" I asked leaning one shoulder against the door frame.
"What about your stepfather?" she asked.
"He is no longer a variable in this problem."
She nods slowly before grabbing me by my wrist and pulling me into her house.
We don't speak. I just follow her into the bedroom the she and Alec share.
Alec was asleep, curled into a ball on the far side of his bed. "Alec." She said pushing his shoulder slightly. "Alec!" she cried again, this time Alec let out a short cry flinching unintentionally.
"It's okay, it's just me." She says rubbing his shoulders in a soothing manner. Like a mother should.
"Alec we're getting out of here. I'm going to get you out of here." she nods
She stands to her full length, still looking at Alec.
"Mom will be out until morning. We'll leave at dusk."
*End*
"Can we leave already? What the heck is taking so long anyway?" Isabelle groaned from the living room.
"We would be out of here if it Alec didn't have to polish that fucking picture every five and a half seconds." Magnus responded
"It's not just a picture, it's a portrait! You people have no appreciation for art." Alec said before whipping off the last side of the picture frame.
For probably the first time since he bought the damned thing, I actually looked at the portrait. Sitting in to grand chairs is what I'm assuming are the parents, at their feet was they're children. The daughter was sitting with one knee pulled up to her chest and the other leg stretched out in front of her, in her hand was silver pistol. Surrounding them was several other people, all gathered around the chairs with the same expressions on their faces.
Indifference
"Who are they anyway?" I asked. He's had that pic-portrait for months and I never thought to ask.
"The Morgenstern's. Come on guys don't tell me you know nothing about them. They were the biggest organized crime family at the time."
"Well what happened to them?" I really only wanted to know about the red-head in the corner, but I didn't want to sound like a creeper.
"The kids went under protective services after their parents were killed. Nobody knows anything about anybody else from the family, they just sorta disappeared. But by now the boy is over twenty-one so he can't be protected anymore. If I know anything, I know he's going to be looking for his sister, but who knows where she could be."
It's unnerving that someone who looks as innocent as her is from a notorious crime family. She looked like the kind of girl you treat right, like take to the park or some soft stuff like that.
"She was batshit crazy though. She had really bad temper issue just like almost everyone else in that family. Anyway I'm all done so let's get going."
We're heading out to celebrate tonight we just had another successful robbery and our move to the Big Apple
"I don't fully understand why she had to come." Isabelle whisper to me referring to the blonde that latched herself on to me after out second job, she's completely convinced that we're going to have some Bonnie and Clyde relationship.
"I can't get her off my back, okay?" I mumbled through the side of my mouth. I've tried to let her go before but she threatened to go to the cops so I'm stuck.
Magnus had some sort of connection so we just walked past the line and through the front door. We picked a table as equally close to the back door as it is the bar, you never really know when things could go really bad, really fast.
The air in the room shifted when she walked through the door. If it weren't for her body I would have mistaken her for a child. She had a brief interaction with the owner if the bar before coming towards my table.
I couldn't help but stare. Black locks framed her face which made the bright green color of her eyes stand out. Her mouth was small and plump and her voice sounded like wind chimes in March (A/N: known as the windy month apparently.)
I sound like a female.
I tuned in just as she snapped at Kaelie.
"Well I would rather sound like a stripper than look like one." the girl said with a bored expression on her face.
There was something so familiar about her.
Maybe she just has one of those faces.
After taking our orders and returning with the drink the team could finally get to work.
"Okay guys let's get started." I instructed. Alec was the first to start.
"New York is home to some of the biggest banks in America including; JP Morgan Chase and Co., Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., the Morgan Stanley, American International Group Inc. and the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation. All of them have pretty good security, but it's nothing that I can't work with. I suggest we start at the bottom and work our way to that top. We should only do six, so a job every to months will get us through the year."
I nodded my head in agreement.
"The security is a joke. They don't even show up to work half the time so this will be too easy." Iz said looking at Magnus.
"Well since we already have our living arrangements together I think we could start in about a month. That should give Simon more than enough time to get settled in, Isabelle I assume you're going to relay all the information to him since he decided not to show up." Magnus said.
"Even though no one has seen our faces he still doesn't want to run any risk of being seen with us. I'm meeting him later tonight so I will be sure to give him the message at some point of the night." She said smiling fondly.
"Eww Isabelle could you not say things like that in front of me. It's really not appreciated." Alec said with a scowl on his face.
"I didn't even go into detail this time. Count your blessings brother." She said laughing slightly.
"Well since business is done I guess we're dismissed. Just be sure to let someone know if you're not planning on returning for a week. We don't need another Canada issue." Jace said while staring at Alec and Magnus.
"We were on our honeymoon." Mag muttered under his breath before sliding from the booth. "We'll be back when were back, a friend of mine is having a party uptown." Magnus sashayed off with Alec in tow, they're the embodiment of opposites attracting.
"I'm going to meet with Simon. Don't expect me to be back tonight." Isabelle said.
I turned to Kaelie and smiled "Don't you have family or friends that you miss?" I asked stroking her long blonde hair.
"Nobody that I can't live without, all I need is you."
"You realize that we are never going to work out. I don't know any other way to put it."
"Jace you're looking for your Queen. Why don't you let me be that? I still don't understand why I am the Pawn." She said, deflecting the real matter at hand. Me kicking her ass to the curb.
"We don't discuss business after business hours Kaelie, you know that. Have a nice night." I said before sliding away.
"What am I supposed to do tonight?" she asked I could hear the pouting in her voice.
Going on a trip and never come back. I said in my head.
"I don't know I'm sure you'll find something to amuse yourself with."
I left before she could think of anything else to say.
That's when I saw dark-haired beauty working the bar.
Everything part of my body told me not to do it.
"Hey." I obviously didn't listen.
"Hello, did you need something?" she asked while wiping down the bar.
"Yes actually. I'll take three shots of Jack, a plate of cheese fries and you in my bed tonight." I said with as straight as a face as I could, it felt so ridiculous coming out of my mouth but it was worth it to see her lip twitch up slightly.
After she's done preparing my order I slid my card across the counter to her in exchange for my order.
"I am not on the menu this evening. But here are your shots and your food order." She said.
"Damn, but what am I going to eat if you're not on the menu?" I said leaning against the counter closer to her. She smelled like sugar with a touch of spice.
"I'm sure you'll think of something." She said, her eyes slowly trailed down my face, which gave me time to do the same to her.
Her eyes looked like a field of grass on a warm spring day.
"It's been a pleasure serving you Mr. Wayland. This one's on the house." She said in a breathy voice while sliding the card back to me.
I gave her a small smile before returning to my table.
I couldn't help but watch her. I also couldn't help but get irritated when the owner began talking to her again. I've never been a fan of jealousy. It's one of those useless human emotions like fear, regret and love.
Once she walked out the club I made my move. When I got outside she was, leaned against the wall smoking a cigarette.
"You know smoking is bad for your health. It can eventually kill you." I said.
"Well, so can drinking, but I haven't stopped doing that either." She said before turning to look at me.
"Poppy, right?" I asked already knowing the answer
"That's what the name tag says genius." She says before without making eye contact
"I'm Jace Wayland." I said holding my hand out to her. She looked at my hand before looking back at me then staring back into space.
"So you just gonna shoot me down? Are all you New Yorker's so rude, I realize this isn't the friendliest city but the least you could do is shake my hand."
"I'm not from New York and I don't like to touch." She said exhaling the smoke slowly.
"So, if you're not from New York where are you from?" I could tell she was easily getting tired of all the questions.
"Didn't you take Sex Ed in school? I think you know the answer to that question." She was facing me know, even in her shoes she still barely came to my shoulder. Now that I'm getting a better look her hair color didn't seem natural or whatever woman use to describe this crap. Grabbing on of her locks and wrapping it around my finger I asked,
"Is this your natural color?"
She pulled the piece from my fingers and wrapped it around her own,
"I went to a dark phase and decided to dye my hair black. I've been told that it brings out my eyes or something."
"Well it's definitely not a lie." I said taking a step closer, turning on the charm.
She smiled slightly before blowing smoke in my face,
"Does this little routine work on all the women?" she asked dropping the butt on the ground, stomping it with the tip of her shoe.
"I do alright."
"JACE.' my skinned crawled when I heard her voice 'what the hell is going on here?" I turned to see Kaelie with her hands on her hips and steam coming out of her ears.
"You seem to do alright." She said before stepping around me and back into the club leaving me to face her by myself.
"What the hell was that Jace?" she asked placing her hands on her hips.
"What was what Kaelie? Don't play the jealous one, it's really not becoming." I sneered before attempting to walk around her. She stepped in front of me.
"I want to know what's going on! You've stared at her all night and I really don't like it. I have every right to be jealous!" she started waving her hands in the air like a mad woman.
"Kaelie I don't know any other way to put it. We. Are. Not. Together. We were never even a thing why can't you get that through your head?"
"What if I was drooling all over some random guy? How would you like that Jace?"
"Just don't bring him back to the house." I said rolling my eyes and pushing past her, walking back to our temporary home.
I have planning to do.
Let's keep something's in mind.
This is a work of fiction. If you know the definition for that then you will know that not everything is going to be realistic.
I've never robbed a bank and if everything in my life goes as planned I never will have to
I've never been in witness protection but I do know the basics. (Something's may happen that would no way happen with real witness protection.)
The Fault in Our Stars completely destroyed me and I would kill (not literally) to see it again.
Please review.
Next chapter will be posted soon!
