CHAPTER 3A

Part 1 of Chapter 3

The Amazon Rain Forest

Ecuador, South America

September 19, 1996

5:54 P.M.

Tommy's feet dropped down the few feet to the ground below. The area was dimly lit but it was a little difficult to see. He gave the rope four tugs to let the guys know that he was alright before detaching himself from the harness. From what he could see by the opening, it wasn't a far drop but it took a while to get down. Falling down fast enough would probably jumble the head a little bit. He turned facing the dim cavern, his hand on his saber sword and in a defense stance.

"Pink? Yellow?" He called out.

"Is that you Tommy?" a voice answered.

"Yeah, it's me." He said.

Two petite figures came towards him and he gave a sigh of relief. Kimberly and Aisha were okay. He hugged the two girls to his chest. "You guys alright?"

Kimberly nodded. "Yeah, we're fine. Just took a little tumble. Nothing serious."

"How'd you find us?" Aisha asked.

"We found the tree and felt the ground wasn't so stable. Adam figured that you guys must have slipped when searching around the opening without knowing what it was."

"Well that's embarrassing." Kimberly muttered. The three teens laughed before she spoke again. "We found strange markings on a wall over here. We don't really know what they are though."

They walked over to the wall. Tommy studied it and then traced a marking with his finger. "I don't know what this is."

"Does it look familiar?" Aisha asked him.

Tommy shrugged. "I mean, a little bit. Kinda looks like stuff I've seen from other planets or whatever.."

"That's what we were thinking." Kimberly agreed.

"Maybe Billy knows. I'll ask him."

Kimberly stopped him. "Don't bother using the radio, it doesn't work down here."

"So what? I gotta yell up the hole now?" Tommy rolled his eyes.

With the Red, Blue, and Black Rangers

The guys were standing around, waiting for something to happen.

"Should we all go down there now that we know he's okay?" Rocky wondered.

Billy shook his head. "Let's stay here. We're going to have to pull them up eventually."

A few minutes passed before the red ranger blew out a noisy breath. "This is taking forever!"

Adam rolled his eyes. "Well no one wants to hear you complain so shut up."

Rocky punched him in the arm. "Perra (little bitch)."

"I never really liked you." Adam scoffed.

"You lie. I'm a joy to be around." Rocky replied.

"Billy doesn't like you either. He told me." Adam smirked.

"Do not include me in your petty fights again." Billy said. "And I have never said that I disliked Rocky."

"Sure, I got you Billy." Adam laughed.

"I don't know why the hell we're friends." Rocky retorted.

Adam laughed again and slapped the red ranger on the back.

"Hey guys!" a voice called from the tree opening.

"Tommy?! That you?!" Rocky yelled in the tree.

"Yeah! Listen, we found some markings down here that we can't figure out and we thought maybe one of you guys would know! Can you find a way to get down here?!"

The three rangers checked their surroundings.

"We could tie the harness to the tree. The rope is long enough right?" Adam suggested.

"Good idea Adam." Billy complimented. "Let's do it."

The three rangers arranged their end of the harness to where it was snugly wrapped around the tree and the latch was locked and put on a branch.

"Alright, let's go down." Rocky said while grabbing the rope.

Down in the Cave

The white ranger was able to see the rest of his team making their way down. "It's a little bit of a drop so be careful guys."

When the guys got settled, Aisha lead the team to the wall with the strange markings. "Here it is." She said. "Maybe you guys will have some luck figuring this out."

Billy tilted his head. "This looks very, very familiar. I do not know where from though."

Tommy turned to the blue ranger. "Have you seen it recently?"

"I think so. Remember when we went on that operation to stop Lady Thorax from enslaving those alien offspring around four months ago?"

The rangers nodded.

"We passed by something briefly before we found the hidden slave auction. It appeared to be some type of outdoor museum. I examined the exhibit for a minute after the mission was complete. I couldn't fully comprehend the writings but it showed diagrams of creatures and then shattered remains of planets. From what I could read, those individuals destroyed their own homes before being killed or killing themselves. For each planet, it would show a brief history of how it came thrive before its destruction. It showed what they ate, how they communicated and more. To me, these markings appear to be from one of the shattered planets."

The rangers were a little stunned.

"So let me get this straight, one person basically went on a mass suicide rampage for some reason?" Aisha asked.

Billy nodded. "Basically."

"Well, why?" Kimberly questioned.

Billy shrugged. "No idea. I wish I was able to read more on it."

Tommy pondered, "So why would a destroyed civilization have their text all the way over here?"

"Maybe it's a secret, haunted burial ground and it's saying 'Do Not Enter. If you do, the dead will come back to life and eat you alive.'" Rocky said.

Aisha slapped the red ranger on the arm. "Rocky, shut up."

"So should we see what this is?" Tommy turned towards Billy.

"I don't see a reason not to, unless Rocky's imaginative story comes true." Billy chuckled.

The teens made their way further in.
