A/N I was struggling between killing Marcus or letting him live. So I wrote two epilogues and I'll let you decide which one's better. Enjoy!
Third Person Point Of View:
A loud beep is heard through the room, causing doctors and nurses to run in, trying to save the boy that's heart just stopped.
"What's happening?" A man walks in demanding.
One of the nurses runs up to him and begins to calm him down. "Mr. Davenport, we need you to leave the room."
Mr. Davenport begins to put up a fight but the nurse escorts him out of the room.
Line Break
A doctor walks out of the ICU, towards a large group of people eagerly awaiting news. "Mr. Davenport we have some news."
Mr. Davenport stands up, and the rest of the group stands also.
"Just Mr. Davenport." The doctor says.
The rest sit down impatiently.
Mr. Davenport and the doctor walk until they are relatively alone.
"Marcus is alive." The doctor says.
Mr. Davenport lets out a relieved sigh. "How come I sense a but?" He asks.
Now the doctor sighs, "If he awakes he may have brain damage, he has a concussion and was without oxygen for nine minutes."
Mr. Davenport was stunned for a minute but the composes himself. "I'm not quite sure I understand."
The doctor gives him a sympathetic look before saying, "Its hard to say till he awakes."
"But he will wake up eventually, right?" Mr. Davenport pleads with the doctor.
"I'm not sure. As his legal guardian now you will have some decisions to make, like-" But the doctor is cut off when a nurse approaches him.
The nurse says, "Sir, Marcus Davenport is awake."
The doctor nods his head and says, "Mr. Davenport you may come with us, but you are not allowed to talk to him yet."
Mr. Davenport nods his head and follows him.
Donald watches through the window as the doctor talks to Marcus. After ten minutes the doctor walks out and approaches him.
"It is good that he's awake, but he has amnesia." The doctor warns.
"How long will it last?" Mr. Davenport asks.
"I don't know, it can last anywhere from a few seconds to the rest of his life, but based on recent events I would say later rather then sooner." The doctor pauses for a moment with a glance at Marcus.
The doctor looks back at Mr. Davenport and asks, "Do you want my personal opinion? Off the record of course."
Donald just nods.
"I've read the kids history, he was orphaned, adopted, abused, and kidnapped. He hasn't had the best life, but this might be a chance at a new life. He wouldn't remember all the horrible events of his life, and he could get a do-over. So this might not be a bad thing, it could be a blessing." The doctor says.
"But shouldn't I tell him about his past?" Donald inquires.
"You should, but when he's ready so he doesn't let it define his future. Now why don't you go see him and don't overwhelm him." The doctor warns before leaving to see another patient.
Donald takes a deep breath and then enters the room, not knowing what to expect.
When he enters he sees Marcus hooked up to a bunch of machines, and looking much younger and weaker then he was. No longer was he the fierce lonely warrior, instead he was a scared child lost in the world.
"Hey Marcus." Donald almost whispers.
Marcus looks at the intruder and tries to figure out who it is, but the memory evades him. "I'm sorry, but who are you?" He asks.
Donald smiles and says, "A new start."
The End
A/N I chose to have him lose his memory because I feel like he deserved a do-over. He won't have bionics, but he'll have a chance to start over without all the baggage from Douglas. Please review and let me know what you think!
I don't know anything about brain injuries so I made everything up. I also don't think doctors' give their personal opinion.
Line Break Alternate Ending
A/N now here's my original plan for an epilogue, told in first person point of view. I thought of this as I wrote the prologue.
I watch as eight people gather around a casket lowering a body in the ground. Not just any body though, its mine.
I know it's weird to attend my own funeral, but I needed closure.
Once the dirt covers my casket completely Bree falls to the ground pulling Caitlin with her and their silent tears turn into sobs. Tasha watches them for a minute but then pulls them up and wraps her arms around them as she leads them away.
Adam is also crying and begging to dig me back up, Leo looks between him and Donald staring off into space before grabbing Adams arm and following Tasha.
Chase, Donald, and Maya watch as the hole fills with dirt. Only when it's full does Donald snap out of his trance and look at the two teens with him.
Donald pats Chase on the back and then heads toward the others waiting inside the car.
Mayas eyes are watery but she doesn't cry. And Chase has tears streaming down his face, but he doesn't seem to notice. They grab each other's hands, and then Chase speaks.
"Thank you."
They walk off toward the car, still grasping the others hand as if it was a lifeline.
I stay back and watch the car disappear before walking over to my grave. I read the headstone:
Marcus Donald Davenport
A brother, a friend, a protector
~An angel in everyway except body~
The last line broke my dead heart. I know Chase and Maya wrote that, they were the closest to me, in many ways they saved me too. Showing me life and true friendship. They were my saviors.
A/N I don't know weather to be sad or happy that it's over. I wanted to thank all of my reviewers, all of my fallows, and all of my favorites! You guys are the best!
Please review and let me know which one you prefer and what you thought of the story!
