Chapter 26
Dragon Singing

Anna's POV. Kili was screaming in pain. Fili and I haven't left his side. I had a cloth over his head trying to whipe the sweat from his brow. Fili was trying to calm him down, but nothing was working.

"Can you not do something?" Fili asked, turning to Bard. Bofur comes over with a bowl of hot water.

"I need herbs, something to bring down his fever." Oin said. I looked at Bard, who was going through a bag.

"I have nightshade, feverfew..." Bard said.

"They're no use to me. Do you haveany Kingsfoil?" Oin asked.

"No. It's a weed. We feed it to the pigs." Bard said.

"Pigs? Weed? Right." Bofur said. He hurried back over to us and points at Kili. "Don't move." Kili just nods and moans in pain. I reached for Fili and touched his face. He looks at me as Bofur leaves the house.

"We'll find a way to save him." I said.

"I hope." Fili said, kissing the palm of my hand. I knew it was going to be a long night.

Mariah's POV. Bilbo disappeared into the Mountain. I sat leaning against the wall, waiting with Stacia curled up beside me wrapped in her blanket with her head on my lap. Thorin stood, pacing the ground. I sighed as I leaned my head back against the wall. I closed my eyes, trying to relax. I must have drifted off to sleep for a while because I woke up to rumbling in the Mountain. Stacia sat up fast.

"What was that?" Stacia asked.

"Was that an earthquake?" Dori asked.

"That, my lad. Was a dragon." Balin said. Thorin looked worried and I stood up and went to him.

"He'll find the stone." I said.

"I hope your right, love." Thorin said, kissing my forehead and held me close. Stacia came over and Thorin picked her up gently and held both of us close.

Anna's POV. The house shook and Fili and I look at each other. It was coming from the Mountain as dust falls from the ceiling.

"Da?" Sigrid said.

"It's coming rom the mountain." Bain said. Fili leaves and heads over to Bard. I quickly follow him.

"You should leave us. Take your children, get out of here." Fili said.

"And go where? There is nowhere to go." Bard said. I grabbed Fili's arm gently and he looks at me.

"We can't leave either. We won't be able to go far with Kili injured." I said. Fili pulled me close to his side and kissed my check. He knew I was right.

"Are we going to die, Da?" Tilda asked.

"No, darling." Bard said.

"The dragon, it's going to kill us." Tilda said. Bard looks at his children and then reaches up and pulls down a black arrow. We look at the arrow in shock.

"Not if I kill it first." Bard said. Fili and I quickly went back to Kili as Oin tries to clean the wound. I helped Oin out as Fili tries to calm him down. I was the only one that saw Bard leave with Bain. I hoped Mariah was alright with the others.

Mariah's POV. We saw a orange glow coming from the mountain.

"What about Bilbo?" Ori asked.

"Give him more time." Thorin said.

"Trying to do what? To be killed?" Balin asked

"You're afraid." Thorin said. I look at Thorin as I stood near the door. Stacia was talking with Bofur, who was keeping her entertained.

"Yes, I'm afraid. I fear for YOU. A sickness lies upon that treasure hoard, a sickness that drove your grandfather mad." Balin said. I felt tears prick my eyes.
I had read the books. I knew Thorin's fate and I feared and knew it was going to happen as soon as Smaug was dead.

"I am not my grandfather." Thorin said.

"You're not yourself. The Thorin I know would not hesitate to go in there..." Balin said.

"I will not risk this quest or the life of one burglar." Thorin said. I knew right then and there he was gone and I slipped into the tunnel without anyone noticing me and ran down the tunnel towards the treasure room. I arrived at the treasure room. It was bigger then what the movie have shown and filled full with all the jewels I could think of.

"Now where are they." I whisper. I jump down into the jewels and gold and hurried as fast as I could, looking for Bilbo.

"Another one that smells like dwarf, but she isn't. Who are you?" Smaug's voice came and I turned to see him behind me and Bilbo right by him. I saw him looking at me and then looking at the Arkenstone that was not far from us. I nodded. Smaug was huge as the book and movie had shown and described. I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or if this was real. I was facing a real dragon.

"I'm...I'm a singer." I said.

"A singer. Then sing for me. Do so." Smaug said.

"Let me think of a song." I said.

"Don't take to long. I don't have time." Smaug said. I thought for a minute and knew a song that Anna had played for me that would suit this situation. I began to sing. I began by humming the first part of the song before I started to sing. (AN: Morded's Lullaby by Heather Dale)

Hush, child
The darkness will rise from the deep
and carry you down into sleep
Child, the darkness will rise from the deep
And carry you down into sleep.

Guileless son,
I'll shape your belief
And you'll always know that your father's a thief
And you won't understand the cause of your grief
But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

I watched as Bilbo inched towards the Stone. Smaug seemed to be enjoying the song as I sang. I smiled slightly in relief.

Loyalty loyalty loyalty loyalty
Loyalty loyalty loyalty only to me

Guiless son
Your spirit will hate her The flower who married my brother the traitor
And you will expose his puppeteer behavior
For you are the proof of how he betrayed her loyalty

Loyalty loyalty loyalty loyalty
Loyalty loyalty loyalty only to me

Hush, child
Darkness will rise from the deep
And carry you down into sleep
Child, the darkness will rise from the deep
And carry down into sleep

Guileless son,
Each day you grow older
Each moment I'm watching my vengeance unfold
For the child of my body, the flesh of my soul
Will die in returing the birthright he stole

Loyalty loyalty loyalty loyalty
Loyalty loyalty loyalty only to me

Hush, child
Darkness will rise from the deep
And carry you down into sleep
Child, the darkness will rise from the deep
And carry down into sleep

Smaug laughed and I backed away.

"You have a beautiful voice, but it won't save you. You will die." Smaug said, coming after me.

"Mariah." Bilbo yelled and he tackled me out of the way. We rolled through the gold and came to a stop. We were on our feet with fire coming at us and we got out of the way.

"You will burn." Smaug yelled as we ran.

"You got it?" I ask.

"I do. Let's get out of here." Bilbo said. We ran for the stairs to get away from the dragon with it right behind us.

AN: Sorry for the long wait. Had a writers block on this and had some story ideas I wanted to do, but the long wait is over. Especially after seeing Battle of the Five Armies. I'll update soon, my friends.
