A/N- Again I am sorry for the late update but lately I haven't had time to update. I do appreciate everyone who reads these stories. Lately I have gotten negative feedback about Alex and I am sorry that Alex might seem too perfect or whatever but that is how she starts out at this point in the story. Remember, this story is something I do on my free time (or when I'm procrastinating on homework) so please be patient.
Chapter 8
"Lexi?" I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard the Doctor's nickname for me. He slightly nudged me until I got off his lap.
I looked at the t.v. and noticed I had spaced out for quite a while judging by the look the Doctor had as he got up. He was leaving already.
I got up, prepared to follow him but let out a growl as I was pushed back onto the couch.
"No. You are staying here." I didn't even bother to ask him how he knew that I knew that he was leaving. He was getting used to my knowledge quicker than I thought he would.
I open my mouth ready to say something but the look he gave me scared the hell out of me.
No room for an argument then. I let a small pout form as I watched the Doctor walk to the door. Stupid time lords. Idiot. I mumbled a string of a few other choice words under my breath.
Did he not trust me? Well he did have reasons not to. He also hadn't know me for long.
"Alex?" I snapped my head in the direction I heard my name come from.
Crap. That hurt. I let out a wince as I rubbed the back of my neck before my eyes slightly widened. Standing in front of me was Rose with two cups of tea. She gave me a soft smile before sitting down next to me. We remained in awkward silence for a while.
"I didn't like you." Looking at Rose from the corner of my eye, I saw her furrowing her eyebrows.
"Most people don't initially like me."
"No. There is just something about you that rubbed me off in the wrong way." She gave me a look. "That cheery attitude of yours to start with."
"Thanks Rose. Sure know how to make me feel special." I let out a childish pout and gave her a small smile after to show I wasn't mad at her.
She didn't return the smile.
"You looked like you thought you were better than everybody else. That you only cared about yourself. I was so sure that you got everything you ever wanted by just batting your eyelashes and letting out a few giggles."
Wow, I knew she didn't like me but I didn't know that's what she thought. Rose gave me a soft smile before continuing. "As it turns out, I was wrong. I hadn't noticed it before but your eyes, they are filled with pain and regret. They kind of mirror the Doctor's."
They couldn't. He had been through so much. I had only gone through a few difficult moments and none were too bad. Sure, there were some scars still left that time could not heal but they were minor things compared to what the Doctor had gone through.
"You're not truly happy."
I opened my mouth to argue but her look cut me off.
"Don't even bother denying it. You may not think so but there is something in the back of your mind that is bothering you. What is it? Maybe not even you know."
We both stayed quiet as we engaged in a short staring contest until we heard everyone in the room go quiet.
Letting out a sigh I broke eye contact, thinking about what Rose had said. It was true to a certain point, something felt off.
"I was going to come see you."
I looked up at the sound of Rose's voice and noticed Mickey. Mickey in the flesh and blood. Wow, I had always respected back in my universe. How he followed Rose, not giving up the chance to be with her. Now that I think about it, I actually hated Rose back home for leading Mickey on. That was messed up on her part and poor naïve Mickey still thought that if he stuck around, he might have had a chance.
A lady opened her mouth as soon as Rose finished her sentence. "Someone owes Mickey an apology."
"I'm sorry." Rose's face feel slightly.
"Not you."
"Well, it's not my fault. Be fair. What was I supposed to think?" Jackie speaks up from her spot.
I was currently slouching against the wall where the tardis used to be, bored out of my mind. Rose, her mum and Mickey were having a serious conversation in which I had no wish to be part of.
I hummed the Doctor Who theme song as I reached inside my bag for my notebook. I just remembered something that Gwyneth had said. My posture got tense as I remembered her. I couldn't save her.
I went to a new page and wrote 'the red aura' across the top. No more Bad Wolf. I suppose that would be bad, no?
I added a small note under that.
'Find out about Bald Wolf.'
Then there was the moment when I scanned myself after the 'Unquiet Dead' episode. The cluster of red dots that had been around my brain. I had a feeling of what they were but I wasn't too sure. But if I was right, then we might have a huge problem.
I looked up as I noticed Rose, Mickey and Jackie arguing in the distance. Probably about how the Doctor had supposedly ditched Rose.
I rolled my eyes.
Wow, no faith in him then.
"I said so! Mum! Mum, go inside. Mum, don't just stand there, just go inside. Just, Mum, go. Oh, blimey."
I let a smirk appear on my face as I heard the tardis materialize.
"Huh?" Oh poor Mickey.
"How'd you do that, then?" And poor Jackie wasn't that behind either.
The tardis finally finished materializing and Rose raced inside followed by Mickey and Jackie. Jeez, weren't they thoughtful people.
They had raced just past me without giving so much as a glance. Letting out a childish pout, I walked inside the tardis or at least tried to. I was shoved out of the way by Jackie.
"You alright?" I called after her but she just ignored me. Go figure. I once again tried to go inside but life just seemed impossible again as Rose shoved me out of the way too.
"Just ignore me, why don't you." I grumbled under my breath as I finally got inside, heading straight for the console.
I pressed a few buttons on the console and hoped for the best, mostly for it not to blow up.
"That was a real spaceship." I saw Rose walk back into the tardis.
"Yep." The Doctor and I simultaneously said.
He turned his head toward me, finally noticing I was here. I was sure feeling the love today, wasn't I?
"So it's all a pack of lies? What is it, then? Are they invading?" Rose asks.
"Funny way to invade, putting the world on red alert." I let out a smile. Go Mickey!
"Good point! So, what're they up to?"
The Doctor reached for a tool he had dropped but ended up jabbing me with his elbow. I let out a squeal as his elbow connected with my side, earning an amused look form the Doctor and Mickey who was standing close to us.
"So, what're you doing down there?" Mickey questioned.
"Ricky." I sent out a glare as the Doctor messed up Mickey's name.
"Mickey." Mickey and I corrected at the same time.
"Ricky. If I was to tell you what I was doing to the controls of my frankly magnificent time ship, would you even begin to understand?"
Ouch.
"I suppose not."
"Well, shut it, then. Ouch!" The Doctor complained as the palm of my hand made contact with the back of his head. He sent me a glare before returning to his work.
I stifled a laugh and sent a wink to Mickey who was looking happy that I had actually done something.
"Some friend you've got." Mickey tells Rose who had earlier come in.
"He's winding you up. I am sorry." She tells him.
"Okay."
"I am though." She defends. The Doctor and I share a look before we pretend we aren't listening to their conversation.
"Every day, I looked. On every street corner, wherever I went, looking for a blue box for a whole year."
"It's only been a few days for me. Same goes for Alex." I slightly look up at the sound of my name before going back to observing what the Doctor was doing. "I don't know. It's, it's kind of hard to tell inside this thing but I swear it's just been a few days since I left you."
The words slip out of my mouth before I remember that I was not supposed to be listening. "She's not a thing. This is the tardis you are talking about." I cringed as Mickey and ROse simultaneously sent me a glare.
"Ooops." I let out a sheepish grin before turning back to the Doctor.
They just continue talking like I never said anything.
"Not enough time to miss me, then?"
"I did miss you." Rose insists.
"I missed you."
"So, er, in twelve months, have you been seeing anyone else?"
"No."
"Okay."
"Mainly because everyone thinks I murdered you."
"Right." Wow, talk about tense.
"So, now that you've come back, are you going to stay?" Mickey asked sounding really hopeful.
"Got it! Ha, ha!" I gave a sudden jolt as the Doctor scared the crap out of me. I sent him a glare but he just continued, ignoring me. "Patched into the radar , looped it back twelve hours so we can follow the flight of that spaceship. Here we go. Hold on. Come on." He says while studying the monitor connected to the console. What the heck? He just appeared in front of the console.
"That's the spaceship on it's way to Earth." I said, casting a glance at the monitor.
"Problem is, The spaceship did a sling shot round the Earth before it landed."
"What does that mean?" Rose asked the Doctor but not before she sent me a weird look.
"It means it came form Earth in the first place." I answered instead. I just wanted to get to the exciting part already.
"It went up and came back down. Whoever those aliens are, they haven't just arrived, they've been here for a while. The question is, what have they been doing?" The Doctor finishes.
I let out a grin. It was almost time for the running.
