Jay felt so stupid. Always. Yeah right. He should have known that Erin wouldn't have his back. She was going to get him killed. If it wasn't for Ruzek, he would probably be dead. Jay reached the ambulance and saw Mills standing there.
"Hey, Mills."
"Jay. How are you feeling?"
The first word that came to Jay's mind was 'betrayed' ; "Tired."
"You're lucky. If it was anyone else, you would probably be in a body bag."
Jay shot him a look as if to say 'shut up' but what he really said was, "Yeah guess I'm something else."
Voight came up to Jay, "It wasn't Erin's fault."
Jay shook his head, "What are you talking about?"
"I told her what to say. It was my idea to test Liam's patience like that."
Jay nodded his head, "So, I'm basically expendable to you? You're just proving my point from earlier. If I'm so easy to get rid of, why don't you transfer me to another unit?"
Voight shook his head and Antonio could see Voight getting pretty mad from a mile away. He ran as quickly as he could to the two other men, "Jay. Are you alright, man?"
Jay nodded his head, "Yeah, just peachy."
Voight walked away with a sigh and his head heavy.
"Why you gotta piss Voight off like that, man?"
"Did Erin or Voight call the shot to test Liam like that?" Jay asked calmly.
"Erin's. Voight thought it was risky. He talked to me before we headed out. He didn't want Erin to come because he thought she wasn't thinking right. If she had consulted Voight before then you wouldn't have been put in that situation. We would have never risked your life."
"But Erin was willing to risk my life…" Jay shook his head.
"It wasn't like that, and you know it." Antonio spoke softly. "She loves you, Jay. No one thinks clearly when they're in love-"
"That isn't an excuse, Antonio. I get that she knows how Liam thinks and everything but Liam wasn't really the one calling the shots."
"Then who was?"
"Jace, from higher up."
"I thought we had Jace."
Jay shook his head, "We have no one. And you almost lost me."
Antonio shook his head, "We would have gone to the ends of the Earth to get you back."
"Then why didn't you? Ruzek was the one here, waiting. Erin literally threw me out to the dogs."
Antonio was getting really mad, "She freaking LOVES YOU! Get it through your head Jay. She would have done anything for you. You're alive. Be thankful for that."
Jay nodded his head as he watched Antonio walk away and Erin coming towards him.
"Erin, I already told you-"
"No. I listened to you when you wanted to talk and now you're going to listen to me."
Jay nodded his head, a he wasn't going to lie to himself, he was more than happy that Erin wanted to talk. He wanted to hear what she had to say.
"I did bet your life. I won't lie about that. I didn't know if I was going to win, but I did. I won you back. You are not expendable, and I wouldn't want you anywhere else but here. I like you a lot Jay, and those feelings might be romantic or it might just be fleeting because of what has happened the past few days, but I feel something. And I'm afraid of that. I don't get attached because people have a way of walking away from something when it gets serious, and right now, I am that person. If I lost you, I don't know what I would have done." Erin felt tears coming to her eyes, she tried her best to push them back but they weren't forgiving. She couldn't help herself from crying, it was just how she felt right in this moment.
Jay pulled her into a hug, "I know, Erin. I know."
Erin nodded her head while her head rested against Jay's chest. She didn't know what he was agreeing to, but it didn't matter to her at this point. After what seemed like forever Jay let go of Erin.
"I have to go back to the hospital to get rechecked out…"
Erin nodded her head, "I'll let you go."
Jay started to get in the ambulance, "Erin, will you come?"
Erin hopped next to Jay, "How did this even happen?"
Jay smiled, "I was an idiot. I made one poor decision and it got all of into trouble."
"If one of us goes down, we all go down."
"But really how did this happen? How did I get taken a second time?"
Erin shrugged, "What do you remember?"
Jay paused, "I woke up once we got here. I don't remember anything from the time I left your room to the time I called you."
Erin nodded, "Did Liam say anything?"
"He was on the phone a lot. Basically asking what he should do. He didn't want to kill me, he was more worried about getting Alice back. Something isn't adding up. And what about the undercover that is basically Jace's right hand man. He must have something by now that would put Jace away for life. Something just isn't adding up here."
Erin nodded her head and began to think, what if it wasn't a real undercover agent? Not meaning that he wasn't really an agent, but what if he was a crooked cop? What would happen then? Every cop was a little biased in certain situations; like when Erin helped Nadia. She could have locked her up for multiple charges, but instead she helped her start a new life. Hell, Erin could be in jail right now if it wasn't for Voight.
Erin nodded her head, "Do you really want to know what I'm thinking?"
Jay nodded his head back at her, "Always."
"That undercover isn't just a cop; he must have some relation to Jace. Like I had a connection to Liam. There is something more there."
Jay paused, "The real question is, where are the undercover and Jace now?"
