Detective Martin looked at the detectives within the intelligence unit, "What are you guys trying to say?
Voight looked at Lindsay who looked at Jay. Erin spoke for all three of them, "It is possible you have a crooked cop on your hands."
Jack shook his head, "No way. I have known Brett his whole career. He wouldn't do anything like this if he had the choice. He must be doing something like this to save himself. The whole point of being undercover is to get intel, no matter what you have to do. You guys should know that the best." Detective Martin turned to Voight, "You all do it on a daily basis. You go undercover even without clearance. You know better than anyone, Voight, you lie until you get out."
Jay shook his head, "We may do some questionable things in this unit, which is none of your concern, but we come around and we get things done. We check in with our superiors, your man has gone rogue."
Jack refused to believe this, "Just find Brett. I can handle the rest."
Voight nodded his head, "If we find him doing anything illegal, we will arrest him, undercover or not."
Detective Martin stood silent for a minute, "Our two units just had to clash again, huh Voight?"
"I will make sure he is safe, but right now, our investigation trumps yours. I'm sorry."
Detective Martin gave them clearance to run their case without interruption from his team.
Voight set up pictures on thw hite board, "Where do we start?"
"We need Liam's help." Erin pointed out the obvious.
"Alright lets get him up here, but Brett's picture next to Jace's. Those two are connected for sure."
Erin went down to get Liam. He was in pretty bad shape. She felt sorry for him in a way, a way she couldn't explain even if she tried.
"We need your help."
Liam shook his head, "I told you all I know."
Erin unlocked the cage and took the handcuffs off of Liam, "Please just come upstairs and see what we have. You might realize you actually know more than you think."
"I'm a bad guy, Erin. I cant help you."
"I can get Voight to come down here and bring you up. I'm doing it the nice way."
Liam nodded his head and went upstairs with her. He sat in a chair and stared at the white board they had set up with pictures and possible connections.
"He's a huge drug dealer going on mobster. He probably has a lot of ways out. Even if he didn't want to hurt Brett, he is probably out of the country by now."
"What makes you think that?" Jay asked.
"Where would you be if you were a wanted man?"
Jay nodded his head and knew that Liam was probably right.
"Where would he go?" Erin pushed for more answers.
"If he isn't out of the state, look at local strip clubs. He loved it there. He was a regular at "Topless". That's all I can give you."
"Let's go." Voight announced.
The team geared up and got ready to go out and find Jace. They first went to Topless.
"Is there a man named Jace here?"
The bartender nodded his head and pointed to a door. Voight led the charge, "On my count."
"Three…two…one." Voight knocked down the door and found Brett inside, enjoying the show he was getting.
"Stand up!" Voight yelled.
"You don't understand!" Brett tried to counter.
"Brett Warner, you're under arrest for the trafficking and sales of illegal substances within the city of Chicago…" Voight continued to read him his Miranda Rights as he handcuffed him.
Voight leaned closer and whispered, "Jace?"
"Room 3."
Voight nodded his head and turned to Jay, "You take the lead, room three."
Jay nodded and smiled a little bit that Voight would allow him to be in charge of such a large task.
"On my count!" Jay let his team know, "Three…two…one!"
The door crashed down as Jay witnessed Jace snorting a line of cocaine.
"Jace Light, you are under arrest…" Jay continued to read him his Miranda Rights as he handcuffed him.
Jay was walking Jace out of the strip club while Voight was loading Brett into the back of a cop car.
"I knew I couldn't trust you!" Jace yelled out, clearly to Brett.
"I didn't know they would be coming!" Brett yelled back.
"Big, bad Detective Voight. I didn't know you were so well connected, Brett."
"I have met this guy once, I swear, Jace I was with you the whole time!"
"I told you, I could get us both out, give us a fresh start and you threw it back in my face!"
Voight closed the door locking Brett inside. He walked over to Jace, "You want out?"
Jace nodded his head, "I've been trying for years."
Voight nodded his head back, "Why didn't you come to me?"
Jay looked over at Erin, who shook her head, she had no idea what Voight was talking about.
"I wanted to, but I didn't think you could actually help."
Voight shook his head, "I could have. But there is nothing I can do for you now."
"Please, Voight." The desperation in Jace's voice was clear.
"Each choice you make, each moment, creates a ripple in time, and those ripples cause tidal waves. And yours is crashing down around you. There is nothing I can or want to do to help you, Jace."
Jay loaded Jace into another cop car to bring him down to the station.
Erin was going to ask Voight what that was all about when all of the sudden, there were shots firing at them from all different directions.
