So…i have some news…the next update will be the last one :( but i think i will write another story (let me know what you think in the comments) but enjoy the update! :)
"Get down!" Voight yelled.
Everyone got down on the ground and covered their heads. The firing stopped and Voight was the first to stand.
"Everyone stay down." Voight instructed his team and the other officers on duty.
"Is everyone okay?" He asked as he picked Jace up from the ground and threw him against a cop car.
"Was everything you said bullshit? You just wanted to distract us with some gun shots? I swear to God, Jace, if I find out you had anything to do with those gun shots, I will put you in the hole."
Jace nodded his head, "I didn't."
Voight looked around and saw most of his team standing up, but where was Erin?
"Halstead, where's Erin?"
Jay shook his head, "I don't know…the last time I saw her was when we were walking out of the bar…"
"Where is she now?!" Voight yelled.
"Over here!" Antonio yelled, "She's been hit!"
"Where?" Jay yelled out.
"It looks like it hit her collar bone." Antonio called back.
Jay breathed deeply, that could be a fatal hit. Jay went up to Jace and threw him against the car again, "Who the hell did that?" He was screaming, "Tell me or I swear to God, if she dies, you die too. Who did that?"
"I don't know!" Jace yelled back.
Jay threw him in the back of another cop car and ran to Erin's side. She was unconscious. Clearly she had been down for a while. Jay shook his head; this was his fault. He was her partner and this was the second time that she had gotten hurt in the past few months. He was supposed to be by her side protecting her. He had failed his number one job, to always have her back, always.
"Is she gonna die?" Jay asked bluntly. He saw Antonio putting pressure on wound and Voight calling for an ambulance.
"Not if we can stop her from dying." Antonio said, but he knew what Jay knew. People almost always died from these types of wounds.
"We need to stop her from dying." Jay announced.
"No shit!" Antonio yelled. He was clearly getting frustrated and Jay tapped his shoulder and took his job of applying pressure to the gunshot.
Jay shook his head and learned into Erin, "Please, please fight through this. I know you're strong. I know you can pull through." He whispered.
He shook his head and heard the ambulance pull up while Gabby and Shay got out of the ambulance, "What do we got?"
"Gunshot wound to the collar bone or neck." Antonio told his sister.
Gabby tried to push Jay out of the way but he wouldn't budge, "Jay you have to let us do our job to save her."
Jay nodded his head and moved out of their way.
"It could have nicked her carotid artery, we have to get her to Chicago Med, lets go."
Once Jay heard Gabby said it could have hit her carotid he lost a lot of hope. He started thinking about what he had said to her over the past few weeks. He yelled at her a few times and froze her out. He wished that he had told her that he loved her. Because he did. He had for the longest time.
Voight put his hand on Jay's shoulder, "We have to get them to the station and then we can go see Erin."
Jay nodded his head and got in the car with Voight to drive Jace to the police station.
"I didn't know those shots were coming." Jace was the first to speak.
Voight looked over at Jay and Jay looked back at him, "Shut up." They said in sync.
They were quiet for the rest of the ride to the station, all they could hear were the sirens blaring. They dropped them off and Platt was outside waiting for them.
"The cage?" She asked them.
Voight nodded his head as other officers brought them in.
"What's the cage?" Jace asked.
"You cannot bring us down there." Brett tried to fight.
"I can do whatever the hell I want, don't you know? I'm detective Voight." With that, Voight got back into the car and turned the sirens back on and rushed to Chicago Med.
"I'm sorry, Jay." Voight broke the non-awkward silence.
"What?" Jay was confused.
"I should have let you two do what you wanted. She loves you. So much. I can see it every time she looks at you or any time someone even says your name. She lights up. I can't help but protect her. If she makes it out of this, which I know she will, you two should go for it."
Jay couldn't help but smile, "Has she ever told you how she feels?"
Voight shook her head, "Sadly, no. I had pushed her so hard on the fact I didn't want you two together…I guess she thought that she couldn't tell me how she felt on much anymore…" Voight's thoughts trailed off. Jay guessed he wasn't the only one who had regrets on how they spent their recent time with Erin.
They got to the hospital and went inside to find the rest of their team plus Severide.
Jay went up to him, "Can I ask what you are doing here?"
"Erin is kinda my girlfriend and she was shot."
"What do you mean kinda?" Jay questioned.
"She said she had to take time and figure out her feelings and I want to be here for her when she wakes up."
Jay nodded his head, "Kelly, I respect you, but I love Erin." At this point, everyone was watching the two men interact.
Kelly nodded his head, "I know, but I do too. I guess, Erin has to choose."
Voight stepped in, "I think it would be best if you left, Severide. Erin doesn't need this in her life." He motioned between Jay and Kelly. "Leave before I take you out myself."
Kelly nodded his head, "Fine." He walked away with his head down.
"Treat Erin right." Voight nodded to Jay as the doctor came out with an update on Erin.
