No excuses... But I'm back on the Spidey train and ready to get this party started! Enjoy!
Chapter 6
I pace for what seems like hours. Running a shaky hand through my hair while glancing back down at the paper in my hands. Peter's gaze follows my every step from his seat on the bench a couple of feet away from me.
"This can't be right... It just doesn't make sense!" I exclaim for the hundredth time and Peter pushes himself up from the bench, grabbing me by the shoulders to stop my pacing.
"Calm down. We'll figure this out... we always do" He lifts one hand from my shoulders, using it to push a strand of hair from my face before cupping my cheek.
I lean into his hand, exhaling deeply to relieve the anxiety attack pushing its way to the surface of my body. Leaning forward, Peter presses his forehead against mine before brushing our noses together.
I can't help but break out a smile at his actions. "Did you just Eskimo kiss me?"
"Maybe" He responds, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth as a blush makes its way to his face.
"You're blushing" I point out and he shakes his head in denial.
"No..."
"Yes you are!" I push on his chest playfully and he catches my wrist with his free hand before leaning forward and pressing his lips against mine.
A feeling of warmth spreads through my body as he pulls me closer, pressing my body into his and I tangle my hands into his hair, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss.
"Amanda I- oh... Oh god" Alex's voice cuts into my head and reality crashes back in, causing me to quickly pull away from Peter. "I didn't mean to-" Alex starts but I cut her off, spinning to face her.
"No it's fine... we were just saying goodbye" I respond, turning to lock eyes with Peter who drapes his arm over my shoulder, pulling me into his side.
"Actually, she was just about to go to dinner with me... is it okay if she takes a reincheck on your little girls day?"
"We were?" I raise an eyebrow at Peter who nods his head quickly.
"Sure, I'll be at your apartment... I'd recommend stopping at the grocery store on your way home" Alex smirks at me.
"But my mom just went shopping"
"Awesome! I'm starving" She gives her stomach a rub before spinning around and heading in the direction of my apartment.
When she's out of sight, I lift my gaze to Peter who watches the situation in amusement before locking eyes with me.
"What?"
"I don't remember these plans" I sigh and Peter smiles.
"That's because I just made them"
"What happened to the 'we need to stay away from each other for a little while' thing" I deepen my voice at the mocking part and Peter raises an eyebrow in amusement.
"I do not sound like that"
"Yes you do" I argue and he shakes his head.
"Just shut up and let me take you to dinner" He sighs before linking our hands and tugging me towards wherever he planned to take me.
I stare at Peter over the menu placed in front of me as he furrows his brows in concentration, contemplating what he wanted to eat.
The piece of paper in my pocket is doing every but burning a hole through my jeans and I visibly wince at the thought of somebody that threatening being inside my apartment. I wouldn't be able to sleep contentedly at night at the thought of someone knowing exactly where I slept.
"Peter... what are we going to do" I mutter when I find my voice.
He doesn't bother glancing up from the menu. "Can we discuss this after dinner?" He sighs, folding the menu and placing it flat on the table in front of him.
I open my mouth to argue the topic's importance but I'm cut off by the waitress placing two ice water on the table in front of Peter and I.
"Hi, I'm Chelsea and I'll be your waitress for tonight. Can I start you off with some drinks?" She asks, glancing at me first.
I order a coke and Peter orders a sprite before 'Chelsea' disappears to get our drinks.
"Peter-" I begin.
"Stop, Amanda. We will talk about this after dinner" He lowers his voice, his tone showing no hint of amusement.
"Are you okay?" I question, glancing around the restaurant, suspicious of Peter's sudden change in behavior.
"I feel like something bad is about to happen" Peter glances at the window from the across the room.
Peter had purposely requested for us to be placed at a booth furthest from the window due to the last meal we had together.
"Your spider senses are tingling" I joke but Peter doesn't laugh. "Nothings going to happen" I try but Peter doesn't tear his gaze from the window.
"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea... can we just go back to your place and get a quick snack?" He goes to stand up but I reach across the booth, grabbing his arm.
"I thought you were taking me out for dinner" I frown and he shakes my arm off before standing up. He grabs my arm, lightly tugging me up from the booth and towards the door. i go to shake his hand away but his grip is too tight.
He doesn't release me until we are out of the restaurant and onto the sidewalk a couple of yards away from it. I focus my glare on him, crossing my arms across my chest.
"Don't give me that look" Peter sighs, running a hand through his dark hair.
"You said you were taking me out to dinner then you drag me out of the restaurant before we even get our drinks?"
"Amanda, I had a bad feeling" He lets out another sigh and I groan.
"I know you're paranoid and trust me, I'm paranoid too but nothing's going to happen! It's your head telling you something bad is always going to take place but it's not and now you've ruined a perfect dinner because your stupid senses were on overload!" I finish my rant with a huff but Peter continues to pace as if I hadn't said a thing. "Did you not hear a word I just said?"
"Something is going to happen" He stops to face me and I shake my head.
"Well if it isn't Peter Parker" A voice sounds from behind me a Peter locks eyes with someone over my shoulder. "and the all so dazzling Amanda" I spin around at the sound of my name. Harry stands behind us wearing a leather jacket, dark jeans and boots.
"Harry, what are you doing here?" Peter's voice doesn't seem to happy about the presence of his old friend as he steps beside me, wrapping an arm around my waist in a protective gesture.
"Aw c'mon Parker, that's no way to treat an old friend" Harry smirks, taking a step forward.
"What are you doing here?" Peter repeats his question.
"I saw you guys engaging in a heated conversation and decided to break the ice" He smirks, locking eyes with me. "Wouldn't want anything to happen to your relationship" His words send coldness through my veins and I feel as if there's a hidden threat in his words.
"Our relationship is just fine without your input" Peter's grip tightens on me and I feel helpless, caught in the middle of a long fued.
"Obviously not, Amanda looks conflicted" Harry's eyes don't move from mine.
"She's fine"
"Why don't you let her speak for herself, hmm?" Harry tilts his head to the side and I take a step back, giving into the fear. I had never felt so threatened by his presence.
"I-I'm just really tired... can we just go, Peter?" I break eye contact with Harry to look up at Peter who nods his head stiffly.
"Of course... honey" Peter pulls us forward, towards a nearby subway station.
As we pass Harry, he grips my shoulder, stopping me and bring his lips close to my ear. "I warned you" He whispers before Peter tugs me forward and away from Harry.
His words hit me hard and I visibly stumble towards Peter, quickly regaining my composure when I feel Harry's eyes on the back of my head.
I sit next to Peter on the subway bench, crossing my legs and resting my head on his shoulder as he runs his fingers through my hair.
"I'm scared" I whisper and he nods.
"I know... but you know I'll never let anything happen to you if my life depends on it" He responds, kissing my forehead.
"Harry wants us apart. What will he do if we don't separate? Will he hurt you?" my voice shakes at the thought of Peter getting hurt as memories flash into my head of the Whiplash incident.
"Shhh, don't worry about me, I'm going to be fine"
"Promise me that nothing will happen to you... to us" My voice is desperate as I lift my head to lock my eyes with his. He nods his head a couple of times.
"I promise. Nothing is going to happen to me. Nothing is going to happen to you. Nothing is going to happen to us. You have my word" He raises his right hand. "Boy scout's honor"
"You were a boy scout?" I raise an eyebrow and he shakes his head.
"Nope, and I'm pretty sure I did that wrong..."
"then how do i know I can trust you on that promise?"
He leans forward, pressing his lips against mine for a couple of moments before pulling away.
"A kiss... to seal the deal" Are the last words he whispers before the subway lurches to a sudden stop and the lights flicker off one by one, leaving us in darkness.
