I know it was difficult in the last chapter to really understand what had happened and I do explain it more in this chapter but the image I had in my head was basically that the upper part of the tree with the foliage and smaller branches fell on top of part of a tent where Clarke fell and so what's above them is those branches/foliage and the tent that was crushed beneath the tree. If that makes sense? Anyway, enjoy!
Clarke POV
Bellamy exhaled and his breath fanned across my face, his lips dropping to my cheek, moving against my skin as he whispered, "How scandalous princess."
His laugh whispered across my skin and I laughed with him, keeping my fingers on his cheek and tracing the movement of the lines his smile created. It was such a surreal moment, so contrasting to the Bellamy Blake I had first met, all anger and defensiveness, with the singular aim to protect his sister. This Bellamy was stronger and softer, his edges worn down a little, I was in awe of this Bellamy.
Bellamy POV
I couldn't really make out Clarke's face but if it was anything like my own there was a high chance that there was a stupid smile stretching across it. No one besides Octavia and my mother had ever shown that sort of affection toward me and to hear the words from her mouth made me feel some sort of emotion that I couldn't describe. For a moment I didn't feel like Bellamy Blake delinquent, attempted murderer, one of the hundred, worthless, usable experiment, I felt like a human being and my fingers felt lucky to be tracing the outline of Clarke Griffins lips.
"What are you thinking about?" She whispered, although why we were whispering when it was still thundering around us I didn't know.
"That maybe I shouldn't tell you that while I was moving, my foot slipped into a gap which means we can probably slide backwards out of here."
"What?" She said loudly jerking her head upwards and smacking her forehead into my mouth.
"Ow, dammit princess," I muttered as my tooth sunk into my lip and the coppery taste of blood filled my mouth.
"Oh sorry!" She replied, laughing, her fingers fumbling in the darkness for my lips, "I am forever injuring you, are you okay?"
"Apart from probably having a questionable swollen lip, yes," I laughed, unable to resist pressing my lips gently to hers and feeling her warmth.
There was no space between our bodies from the knees up and I was finding it difficult to concentrate on anything, including the fact that we were stuck under what I thought was the upper branches/leaves of the tree and part of a half-destroyed tent. Her body was warm against mine and the zipper of her jacket was digging into the skin on my stomach under where the bottom of my jacket had ridden up. It wasn't the comfiest position but her scent was soft and floral combined with the rain and earthy smell of the forest and it was intoxicating me. The rain had begun to let up and the smell of fresh earth was left in it's wake.
"Ew, is that your blood?" She pulled away, wrapping her fingers underneath my chin, using one finger to trace my lower lip, trying to locate the source.
I stuck my tongue out and ran it along my lower lip, laughing when I accidentally licked Clarke's finger.
"Stop!" She laughed, blowing in my face, "You're such an animal, maybe you should go and live with the grounders!"
"I don't know princess, I think you could do the grounder thing pretty well, you know braids, painted face, constantly grumpy and homicidal." I responded, struggling to keep my face straight even though she wouldn't know.
She punched me in the shoulder, gasping in mock horror, "You're such an ass! Now get off me and get me out of here, your filthy pig smell is starting to suffocate me!"
"How do you know what a filthy pig smells like huh? Spent a bit of time in a pig pen have you?" I replied, outwardly smiling now.
"Yeah, I'm in a pen with one right now." She said and from her voice I could tell that she had maintained her straight face and was entirely better at this game than me.
"You know what, I can't stand to be in here a second longer with such a cruel individual." I announced, sliding backwards using my feet to feel for a gap.
Before I could move she gripped my shoulder, her fingers digging into my skin and I could feel her mood change and her breathing quicken, "Wait, if you move, it won't fall on me will it?"
Her voice was tentative and almost ashamed and I reached down and hooked my fingers through hers, gripping her hand tightly, "Not if you try and move with me, I'm supporting some of the debris, but I realized there's not a lot of weight on us, it's mainly just smaller branches and the material from the tent so we should be okay."
Clarke POV
Moving was a slow process, it was dark so we couldn't be entirely sure about what was surrounding us but it appeared that the top of the tree where the smaller branches and foliage were had fallen on top of a tent and we'd become stuck under a tangle of the two things. This meant that it wasn't exactly heavy branches but all together it was difficult to move considering how little space we had. Bellamy was sliding backwards and I was tentatively sliding on my back after him. He'd managed to get his feet out easy enough and was now wiggling his legs out, although in his wake the branches he'd been holding up were now moving closer toward me.
"Bellamy?" Octavia's high pitched cry cut through the silence that the rain had left behind.
"O!" Bellamy replied in relief, "Can you help move some of this stuff off us, we're okay, it's just difficult to manoeuvre out."
I couldn't understand how he remain so calm, I would have gladly taken on a fight with the grounders rather than be stuff in such a small space ever again, although there was a part of me that did not wish at all for the memory of being stuck there to be forgotten.
Eventually with some help, Octavia and the other managed to heave and break some of the branches and cut sections of the tent away so that we could climb out of our leafy prison. The sky was a deep blue black lit by glimmering stars and blanketed in purpling clouds. The aftermath was beautiful. There were a few people milling round, having just helped us and others were exiting the drop ship, surveying the post-storm chaos and beauty. I felt slightly off-kilter and I couldn't shake my amazement at the sky above me.
Suddenly a pair of arms were wrapped around me. Male, warm, a familiar scent that brought an onslaught of memories of skin on skin coupled with betrayal. He lips were at my ear, "I thought you were dead." he whispered, his breath making goose bumps trail uncomfortably down my skin.
"Hey, stop suffocating her she just got out of a small space," Raven's voice demanded playfully, but her tone hinted at an entirely different emotion, Finn released me, but his eyes refused to leave mine, they were intense and filled with an emotion that made my stomach jerk.
Warm fingers found the inside of my elbow and the touch reassured and supported me, Bellamy's way of showing both comfort and a warning toward Finn.
"Clarke," Finn started, reaching for me again, "I need to talk to you."
"We have more important things to focus on Spacewalker," Bellamy's voice was cool and low, "We need to check the safety of the camp and the people."
I gently tugged my arm from Bellamy's grasp, as much as I appreciated it, I didn't need him to speak for me, nor defend me, "What is it Finn?" I asked crossing my arms.
It was still difficult to talk to Finn without wanting to slap him across the face. My anger wasn't just fuelled by my own betrayal but by the betrayal of my friend. Raven had suffered more than I had and it frustrated me that he didn't seem to be attempting to make amends with her.
"I…" He started, eyeing Bellamy, Octavia, Raven, Miller and Jasper awkwardly, "Can we talk in private?"
I sighed stepping a few paces away from the others and turned to face him, "What is it Finn, I'm exhausted and I really—"
"I love you." He blurted out, his brown eyes wide and sincere, pleading with me.
Images assailed my vision, memories of his hands on my bare skin, tracing my spine and of his lips trailing along my neck, and suddenly I couldn't breathe.
I yanked away from him and before I could answer a female voice cut through the silence, "Are you serious?" Raven's voice was acid, and as I turned to face the group I realized that they'd heard every word.
Raven's eyes were on fire and Bellamy's matched.
"How can you say that after the things you said to me last night?" She demanded, her arms crossed across her chest, fingernails digging into her palms, teeth clenched together.
Finn, embarrassed about being verbally assaulted, launched into defensive mode, "I said those things before I found out that you screwed Blake!" He snapped, clenching his fists at his sides, sending daggers at the girl he once proclaimed to love.
Blake? It didn't register for a second but when it did I felt as though someone had screamed profanities at me. Bellamy and Raven? When? How? Why?
What did it mean?
I felt sick, like someone had punched me in the stomach and the nausea was beginning to burn at my throat. I felt as though I was being recycled by Raven's lovers. It was something they'd both kept from me, one of my best friends and the man I had just confessed to love. I wanted to scream. All I could see was his hands on her back and his lips on hers. But it wasn't that, that was really cutting at me, it was that it was already so difficult to establish trust down here and two out of the three people who I had wholeheartedly placed my trust in had kept something this big from me.
I lifted my gaze to meet Bellamy's which was already locked on me, mixed emotions flickered across his expression as he searched desperately to decode my own expression. The silence was deafening. He took a step toward me, and I could feel Finn and Raven's eyes on me as they realized what that declaration would do to me. Raven's guilt was piercing.
"You and Raven?" I asked quietly, biting down hard on my tongue to stop the traitorous tears that were burning my eyes.
"Clarke you—" He moved toward me with his hand outstretched, all callouses and warm smooth skin that I wanted to cling too.
"You know what," I cut him off, glancing around at Raven and Finn, "I don't want to have any part in whatever the hell this is, so I'm out."
I met Bellamy's eyes, fighting against the tears that were building in my throat, "Completely out."
Ps. I'm really hoping to also get up a nice little Christmas chapter at some point! Please let me know what you think xx
