Sorry for the crazy late update! I hope everyone had a good New Years Eve etc and I hope that you enjoy this chapter! Also I've uploaded the first quick look at a new fic that I'm writing so if you could give that a look that'd be excellent! Enjoy xx
I woke up on Christmas morning with a freezing cold nose and buried beneath three layers of blankets. I had slept in Bellamy's tent, which had practically become our tent, but he had not, out of respect, slept next to me. I had argued at first but he'd simply said that it wasn't just his tent anymore and that he would rather me have it as he could share with Miller.
It felt strange between us, awkward, neither of us knew where we stood and unclarified questions still remained. Had he liked Raven? What had it meant? Could we be together again?
I groaned, burying my head into the blankets. I had almost made the decision to curl up and go back to sleep when I heard laughter from outside the tent. I crawled out of the tent, pulling myself to my feet and rubbing my eyes groggily. The air outside the tent was even colder than inside, but outside I only had my thin jacket to protect me from the chill. But it was when I actually fully opened my eyes that I realized why there was so much excitement buzzing through the air. The entire campsite was blanketed in glistening white. Snow.
My mouth dropped open in amazement and I suddenly felt very awake. Snow was falling gently to the ground in soft shapes and the ground crunched beneath my shoes. I spotted Bellamy by the gate, reaching down to grab some snow before hurling a misshapen sphere of icy white at Miller who was attempting to hide behind a tent. They both laughed raucously when it made contact with Miller's shoulder and I felt my heart skip at his laughter. It had been a while since I'd seen playful Bellamy and he was sending waves of overwhelming fondness throughout my body. His face was scrunched into a look of total glee as he dodged a snowball and then proceeded to take one straight in the face.
Miller almost choked because he was laughing so hard at Bellamy's shocked expression, "That's what you get for being cocky!" Miller called loudly through gasps of laughter.
"Clarke!" Octavia called excitedly, skidding to a stop beside me, the ends of her hair drenched, and her eyes twinkling.
I grinned widely at her, "I can't believe it's snowing!"
"And on Christmas!" She jiggled excitedly, eyeing Miller and Bellamy with a glimmer in her eye, "Let's go join the snowball fight!"
Before I could reply she had scooped some snow into her hands and was running toward Bellamy, but instead of throwing it she ran up behind him and crushed the snow into his hair.
He yelled loudly, spinning around to face her. Bits of snow were still melting down his face from Miller's snowball and now tiny diamonds of white glistened in his curls, "O!" He cried.
Octavia laughed loudly, smacking him on the arm, "Better watch out big brother!"
Bellamy suddenly smiled slyly, "Come here O." He reached toward her, hooking his arm around her waist and scooping her easily into his arms.
"No!" She screamed, twisting in his arms, laughing and kicking, "Don't you dare Bellamy!"
He just laughed and then dumped her into a pile of soft snow where she proceeded to wail, "IT'S FREEZING!" attempting to sound angry but not being able to keep the wide smile from splitting across her face.
Bellamy laughed elatedly, and his expression knocked the air out of my lungs. This ridiculously gorgeous boy loved me.
He glanced around as if he could feel someone watching him and he spotted me, his grin widening as he looked almost shyly at me. He raised a hand in greeting and another snowball connected with the side of his face.
Octavia and Miller were practically in tears and Bellamy's cheeks were reddening considerably, as he dropped his eyes away from me and narrowed his eyes at the two of them.
"Looks like you need some assistance," I laughed, joy bubbling up my throat, I hadn't felt this carefree in weeks.
He sent me his quirked up smile, his brown eyes warm and I felt his fingers brush against my wrist. It felt strange, as if we were right back at the start, as if we were a couple of shy flirting teenagers, unsure of how to act around each other. But for now it was enough to feel his fingers skim against my skin.
I dropped my eyes from his and turned toward Octavia and Miller, and before anyone could react I reached down and scooped icy snow into my palms and launched it at Octavia. Unfortunately it hadn't exactly been a snow ball but the snow still sprayed across her face, and she yelped.
Bellamy's laugh filled the air and then chaos broke lose.
Everyone was rushing to scrape together snow balls before the others and snow was flying everywhere, it smacked against my jacket, soaking the material and against my neck, sending icy droplets dripping down my shirt.
Somehow, at some point the idea of 'teams' had totally disintegrated and Octavia was throwing snowballs left, right and centre, a lot of them finding their way onto Miller.
Sneakily, taking advantage of the new chaos, I dropped to the ground, shaping a snowball in my palms and launched it at Bellamy's turned back. It smacked into the back of his neck and he twisted around in surprise, yelping as the ice made its way down his back. I laughed loudly, my cheeks aching from the cold and from the overwhelming grin that was stretching my lips.
He stared at me in surprise before a cheeky grin overtook his expression and his cheeks dimpled, "Bad move princess." He started toward me, slowly reaching down to grab a handful of icy snow.
I turned and ran, slipping and sliding along the icy ground. I could hear Bellamy laughing behind me and I couldn't help but laugh as I slipped and slid, my feet burying themselves into the thick layer of snow.
"Don't, no!" I yelled, twisting around as I realized how close he was, "That's unfair!"
He chuckled, his dark eyes mischievous and then a lump of snow hit me in the stomach and since I was already unbalanced from the snow, the impact caused me to tip backward into the snow. Bellamy, who had been right behind me, tried to top but tripped on my legs and fell on top of me, his hands catching himself before his full weight could hit me.
We were both breathing heavily, our misty breath intermingling in the air. His face was so close to mine, diamonds of icy snow scattered throughout his unruly hair, the pattern of his freckles now so familiar to me. His expression was conflicted neither of us seemed able to break eye contact.
"Hi." he whispered, a slow shy smile tugging up the corners of his lips.
"Hi." I replied, unable to resist reaching up to tug a chunk of snow from where it was lodged in one of his curls.
We both watched it melt in my palm and he opened his mouth to say something but was cut off when an armful of snow was dumped over both of our heads.
"Octavia!" Bellamy yelled, lifting himself off me and climbing quickly to his feet, shaking his head as if to clear it.
I blinked quickly, trying to clear my own. My cheeks warming at the thought of his lips so close to mine. Octavia and Miller had already taken off running in the opposite direction, laughing like lunatics.
Bellamy shook his head, grinning as he reached down to offer me a hand up. His palm cool against mine and when I was on my feet I felt his fingers loosen as if to let go of my hand. Instead I wrapped my fingers tighter around his hand, avoiding his surprised eyes on me and instead staring in the direction of Octavia and Miller. Bellamy didn't say anything but I felt his fingers tentatively wrap around mine, his thumb moving gently along the back of my hand.
I sighed, tilting my head up to look at the grey sky, letting soft snow flakes land on my cheeks. Everyone was waking up around us and I could hear screams of delight and exclamations of joy as people discovered the white blanketed world around them. Bellamy's skin was warming against mine and I squeezed his hand tighter, stepping closer so that our shoulders were pressed together.
In that moment it seemed ridiculously trivial to be worrying about the Raven situation, to even worry about something so tiny when there was snow falling from the sky, when we were on Earth, when there was so much still to discover, seemed pathetic. What did it matter? Bellamy loved me, he had made a mistake not telling me, but who was I to hold that kind of thing against him? Wells had made mistakes, the kind that probably resulted in his death but he had been a good person. Murphy had made mistakes, but he had been fighting for his rights. Reynolds, Riley both had ended up dead for their mistakes. But Bellamy was here and his hand was intertwined with mine and he was alive and being alive was something we couldn't take for granted.
I wasn't sure whether I was ready to forgive him for the whole Raven situation but I knew that if there was one thing that Earth had brought to me that I didn't ever want to give up, it was Bellamy Blake.
"Merry Christmas Bellamy," I whispered, not taking my eyes off the sky.
Not releasing my hand, he hooked his arm around my shoulders, tugging me into a half embrace as we surveyed the wonder around us, "Merry Christmas Clarke." He whispered, and I felt the gentle pressure of his lips pressed into my hair.
