Author's Notes: So I decided to add a little more to the story because of the positive responses I received and a couple people asking me to please continue, so I am! This chapter is a little more "plot" driven I suppose. Hope you enjoy! ^_^
"Chrom it's time to strike the final blow now!" Frederick cried out as he leapt behind the prince. Their battle with Grima was near over as fatigue and pain was apparent in the doppelganger's expression. Only one more attack should finally end the battle and bring the dragon down. Chrom brought his sword up, tip facing his opponent as he charged forward ready to end the beast and put him into a millennia long slumber. As he rushed forward, a blinding light sped past his left shoulder, the heat from the light caused him to jerk his body to the side and come to a halt. The light pierced Grima, causing him to relinquish a cry in agony. The spell was Thoron, a spell only one person in their company knew- Robin.
Chrom quickly turned around to see his friend standing with his tome in hand, palm outward towards Grima. The plan all along was to allow Chrom the final blow in order to preserve Robin's life. Why did he do this?
"I'm sorry for lying to you Chrom, but this monster has to die." Robin said. Surprisingly, he was smiling as he looked at his friend who held an expression of disbelief. The tactician turned around to find his wife Lissa standing a few yards away. She was never too far from him on the battlefield. His eyes met hers, watching as they welled up with tears. The girl's mouth hung open and her lower lip began to quiver.
"Robin…why…" She choked out, watching as his figure began to slowly fade away in the wind. It appeared as if every molecule was slowly breaking apart and being swept away just as Grima had. Robin's smile remained, a couple tears rolling down his face as he stared intently at Lissa.
"Lissa, I apologize to you too for this. I know I told you we would have a great long life together and I wanted nothing more than that, but I had to end this." He dropped his tome and breathed in heavily, pausing momentarily before speaking again.
"I love you more than words can describe. Good bye, my love" And just like that, those brown eyes of his vanished in the wind. His essence was gone, his entire body as if it never existed in the first place. Lissa's knees buckled as she cried out his name once more and fell to the ground as Stahl dived over her to protect her from the ensuing chaos that followed. The rest seemed like a blur to the girl, but next thing she knew, she awoke to Maribelle standing over her with a healing staff.
"Thank the Gods you're alright darlin'. That could have been a lot worse for all of us." The woman said as she pulled the staff back. Lissa blinked her eyes a couple times, her vision slowly returning in full. What had happened? She was on the ground? Her hands traced the grass. What about Grima? What about….Robin? The girl jolted up from her lying position and looked around in a panic. She saw her comrades gathering themselves and tending to any wounded, but no sign of Robin. Chrom was spotted at the cliff side staring out into the distance. She ran to her brother's side and found the dragon's body had fallen into the ravine, quickly turning into a skeleton before their very eyes.
"Robin…" Chrom silently said. It was beginning to sink in for him. That's right, Robin had sacrificed himself to save humanity. Once it finally clicked, Lissa broke down sobbing. Chrom turned towards her and brought her in for a hug, allowing her what comfort he could give.
"Why did he do this? It wasn't supposed to be this way!" She choked out in between breaths, her voice slightly muffled by Chrom's chest.
"I'm sorry for your loss sister. He was very dear to you and I as well- everyone feels the pain of his sacrifice." Chrom turned his head from the embrace and evaluated the company's behavior. Everyone was silent, not saying a word. Their expressions said all they needed to. Robin, their tactician and friend was gone.
Lissa pulled back from Chrom and wiped her eyes before walking back towards the others. She felt lost. What was she to do? Who was going to comfort her? She had no special bond with the others that she had with Robin. He was her world, her reason. Chrom quickly followed in order to support her as best he could.
"Lissa, we need to get everyone back home and rest up. Then…we can go find Robin." Find him? What does that mean?
"Robin's dead Chrom! He vanished right before my very eyes!" She cried out. Fighting the tears back was a losing battle as they continued to flow. This was a loss she hadn't felt since Emmeryn died. Chrom placed his hands on Lissa's shoulders and stared down at her and smiled.
"I can feel it. It's like his spirit is in the very air we breathe. I know he is alive, somewhere out there." Almost like magic, those words lifted her spirit. Was holding onto such a dull hope really worth it?
"It's like Naga said, if his bond with us is strong enough, he may just survive. I think if anything…his bond with you will keep him alive. Tomorrow, we will go find him once more." Lissa's tears stopped and the frown that had plastered itself on her beautiful face was beginning to go away. Were his words true? Naga did say their bonds could save him and if that's the case Lissa had to find him for herself and feel his embrace once again. The princess broke from Chrom's hold and ran towards Frederick's horse while he tended to Sully. Before the knight even realized it, she had hopped on and was riding off into the distance.
"Lissa!" Frederick cried out. His words were dust in the wind to her at this point, her mission was more important. Chrom appeared next to Frederick on a horse of his own.
"Tend to the wounded and set up camp west of here before sunset. Lissa and I will return….with Robin." With that, the prince sped off before Frederick could get a word in edge wise. Did he say with Robin?
Tunnel vision set in as the princess rode faster than she could ever remember riding before. Her only focus was seeing for herself if Naga's words were true. If not, damn her and her false hope. Something in the girl's heart told her to ride faster and faster so she tried as best she could. Hours had passed as the sun began to set on the horizon. The sight of a small town filled Lissa's vision as she came to the top of a hill on the outskirts. This was the general location where they had first found her love. She jumped off the horse's back and frantically scanned the field from atop the hill. Every which direction she could but it was getting harder to see with the light dwindling away. That was when she caught a glimpse of a black figure in the distance lying down.
Her body froze in shock. Could it be? Her eyes were fixated as she slowly took a couple steps down the hill into the field and before she knew it, she was in a full sprint. Just as the sun had made its way beyond the horizon and the night sky filled with brilliant stars and a beautiful full moon, she had reached the figure.
"R-Robin…" she gasped. Before her very eyes lay the man with whom she thought was gone forever. The man who had taken her heart and nearly crushed it with his self- sacrifice. The princess knelt down beside him and cupped his cheek in her hand. The gentle touch caused his eyes to quiver and slowly open.
The princess smiled as big as she could as the warmth of tears filled her eyes once again. He was alive and well! The tactician smiled back at her as he brought his hand up to her face, stroking her cheek upwards and gently pulling some of her hair behind her ear.
"I missed you…" His voice was like a gift from God. Lissa couldn't contain her excitement anymore and quickly brought her face down towards his, catching him in a kiss as tears streamed down her face. Robin held the back of her head and deepened the kiss which earned him the sound of a soft moan coming from his wife. They broke apart momentarily only to stay glued to each other's eyes.
"You're alive," the princess cried out as she choked up. "I can't believe you're alive. I thought fate had taken you away from me." She turned her head into his palm as he caressed her face.
"I couldn't leave you behind. You were the last thing I could see before my vision went black, but suddenly you came back to me. All I could see was every single memory I had of us." The tactician smiled widely.
"The next thing I knew, I woke up to you sitting right over me. It was as if I had awoken from a dream." This caused Lissa to blush and let out a slight giggle. It was just like the first time they had met. Robin sat up and was met with her arms wrapping around his neck to which he responded by hugging her waist. He nuzzled and kissed her neck which earned him another gentle moan. The woman responded by lightly pulling the back of his hair and whispering into his ear, 'I love you.'
Chrom watched from a top the hill as the two lovers embraced. The prince grinned in disbelief. 'Thank God I was right about this.' He jumped off his horse and meandered his way towards the two, glad to see his friend and sister happy again.
This was just a quick follow up I thought I would make because I do love writing Robin x Lissa fanfiction! As far as I can tell this story is concluded but I may write another tale set at a different time. Only time will tell! Thanks for reading
