"Mommy, may we please go outside today?" a little boy looked up at his mother and asked.
"You know that the people here don't like us," the mother answered with a kind smile, but there was a scent of regret and sorrow in her voice. "We'll just have to live in the safety of our home for now."
"But I'm hungry, mommy," the little boy whined.
"You know I went to the market last month," the mother said playfully. "I'll check if there is some food left for us to eat today."
"Aww, couldn't we go out and eat? I'm tired of the stale food," the little boy begged his mother.
"We will find a way somehow," the mother replied reassuringly. I you only knew what had happened two years before you were born. The mother thought quietly to herself.
"I love you mommy." The mommy was surprised that the little boy had hugged her.
"I love you too," the mother replied and hugged the boy. "I think it's time for you to know," the mother said slowly to the boy.
"Know what?" the boy's eyes grew wide.
"Two years before you were born," the mother started telling the story, "Your father and I decided to go on a picnic. We went to eat at a park that happens to be close to the void portal. We were walking when your father dared me to go inside the portal and take some pictures."
"Did you take the dare?" the boy asked curiously.
"Well, of course," the mother replied. Never again, she thought to herself. "Anyways, back to the story," the mother continued with the story.
The little boy sat up,"Tell me, tell me," he said enthusiastically.
"While I was taking pictures in the void, I notice a little girl crying, so I went over there to offer some help to her. I was wrong; she was a creature from the void." The mother shivered,"I could still feel her grasp today. I spent too much time in the void; the dark energy from the void started filling my body."
"What happened next?" the boy asked.
"The dark energy from the void changed my whole appearance," The mother replied. "I grew sharp teeth. My skin was terrifying purple. My eyes have developed a bloody red color. Two years later, I had you. I hoped that you wouldn't suffer the same fate, but I was wrong," The mother's eyes were filled with sadness.
"Tell me why the people call me Void Fizz," the little boy said.
"For a day or two, everything was calm, but then the Void launched an attack on the city. Many of the citizens didn't make it," the mother replied with tears in her eyes now. "The people of the city was traumatized by the sudden attack, and they blamed it all on us. They started calling you Void Fizz because you look like someone they know."
"Why do the mean people hate us?" Void Fizz asked.
"They think that we are freaks, and because of that, I was fired from my job. We had to live in poverty, but your father wanted more. This life was not what he wanted, so when he met another girl, he left," the mother was now in tears. All of those memories proved too strong for her.
"Mommy, you still have me," Void Fizz said to his mom. "Even if the whole world abandons you, I will still be here for you." These words made the mother feel a lot better.
She grabbed Void Fizz's hands and looked straight into his eyes,"I want you to enjoy your life. I've lived mine, and I was blessed to have you as my son. Just know that wherever you are I will be there with you in heart." What Void Fizz doesn't know is that his mother was diagnosed with a fatal cancer on the day she went inside the void.
"I'll always love you, no matter what," the mother gave Void Fizz one final smile before giving her life to God.
"M-mother?" Void Fizz shook his mother's lifeless body. "Mommy!"
Void Fizz woke up to find that it was just a dream. He was covered in sweat and breathing heavily. His heart was pounding, and he rubbed his eyes. That was the fourth time he had that dream in a row. He reached over and felt the bag of potions next to him. The contents in it was already cold from the ship air conditioner. Soon, I will have you back, mother.
